Passion Bakery Cafe is an absolute must if you're on the hunt for fresh malasadas! We came bright and early, and it was 100% worth it. We ordered the Lilikoi, Haupia, and Ube malasadas -- and WOW. All of them were so good, but the ube was our favorite! Soft, fluffy, perfectly sweet, and filled with so much flavor. You can really taste the freshness. The employees were also so sweet and kind, which made the experience even better. It's always nice to feel welcomed, especially early in the morning. Another big plus is the private parking lot with plenty of spaces -- super convenient! There's also lots of outdoor seating in a courtyard surrounded by beautiful plumeria trees (and some friendly chickens walking around), which adds to the whole island charm. Went to Passion Bakery for breakfast to try their "famous malasadas". Got the guava filled malasada and also too their Java Chip Mocha Frappuccino. Unfortunately being from Oahu with having Leonard's Bakery malasadas, these malasadas were rather mid compared to that. The guava filling was the artificially flavored type. But other than that it was a decent/above average sweet treat. The malasadas itself I'd say was 3 stars. However, the star was the Java Chip Mocha Frappuccino. The thing I loved most about it was that the java chips were small enough where it never got stuck in the straw and was evenly consistent with every sip. By far the best java chip mocha frappuccino in my book! I'd come back for this one. It made starbucks seem mid tbh. Service was friendly and efficient. And the ambiance, though quite small it was fresh with the smell of a malasadas bakery :) Plus a few tables and plenty parking outside. Overall I'd give it a 4 stars. A must-stop bakery in Kauai! This was my first time in Kauai, and Passion Bakery was such a great find. I ordered the Kahlúa loco moco and it was absolutely delicious. I ended up ordering a few baked goods as well, and everything was fresh and tasty. Parking can be a bit rough, and they're definitely very busy, but the customer service was excellent, friendly, and efficient. There's outdoor seating available on a first-come, first-served basis not a ton of seats, but enough to enjoy your food if you're lucky. Next time I'm back in Kauai, I can't wait to return. My issue is that why is there a sign on the door saying six people at most in the bakery at one time when I was the only one and was asked to wait outside in the wind and rain. Makes no sense. This place was very good! We came for the malasadas but tried other options they offered as well. Like everyone had mentioned, the malasadas are delicious! Next to the malasadas, I also got the loco moco. Despite it looking like a small plate, it was definitely packed with food! It was very yummy and filling, it was also a bit more on the saucy side. The service was pretty quick and friendly. It is a small locally-operated so the inside of the place only allows 4 people at most inside. The eating area is outside with some seating and umbrellas to cover you from the tropical sun. There's some chickens out looking for food, so just know they'll be around you (as they will be in Hawaii). Read a lot about the Malasadas so had to try them from Passion Bakery. It's a very busy place and due to it being small inside they only allow a few people at a time to order food. They offer breakfast sandwiches and other items. Staff were very helpful and we ordered several of the Malasadas. We ordered the Vanilla Bean, Lilikoi, Mango and Ube. They were warm when we picked them up. They were delicious but have plenty of napkins as they are quite messy. There are several tables outside and most were taken. read more

So I was excited to try this place and finally made it. I was a little disappointed in both the food and prices. We paid over $70 for two breakfast sandwich's, 2 iced coffees, 1 small bite size puff pastry and 2 malasadas. Our breakfast at sandwiches were not great but just okay. The malasadas were good and the puff pastry was good but tiny. Our coffees were cool and the staff was very friendly but for the price we paid I expected for it to be a bit better. There are a lot of places on the island I'd recommend where you get more bang for your buck. The place itself is a small little place but has a good amount of seating outside. Stopped by for a quick breakfast and enjoyed the food! We stopped by Saturday morning around 8:30 am and it wasn't too crowded. There's no indoor seating but there is plenty of outdoor seating around the cafe. They offer a variety of pastries as well as breakfast sandwiches and plates which are available anytime. There are also limited lunch options in the form of sandwiches and plates. I was mainly here for the malasadas. I got 4 of them to try: the original ($2.85) as well as coconut, mango cream, and vanilla bean ($3.50 each). They came out quickly and were still nice and warm. My favorite was the regular and coconut. I was disappointed in the mango as it didn't taste like mango at all. The interesting thing about their cream filled masaladas is that most of the cream is outside the malasada. I'm used to the opposite, where most of the cream is inside, but it's a bit easier to eat this way. My friend also got the Jalapeno Popper breakfast sandwich ($14.99), which he absolutely loved. read more

While visiting Kaua'i for the first time last year, we sought out to try some malasadas. While doing our research, I found Passion Bakery Cafe had excellent reviews. So we took a roadtrip from our rented condo in Poipu to Passion. The location is a little tricky to find, but definitely worth it. We were able to park on the road next to the cafe and found a table outside. We ordered three malasadas, one with chocolate cream inside for me, one with vanilla bean cream inside for my wife, and a sugar coated one to share. The order took a little while, as they made them fresh to order. But we enjoyed the weather and the birds as we waited. The malasadas were so tasty and were worth the wait. Unfortunately, the thought to get photos didn't happened until there was only the sugar coated one left. Our first time trying malasadas and I think we picked a great one! We'd heard the wait for the malasadas could be a little while because they are fresh so we put in a pick up order when we were about 15 min out. It's a small and simple shop with a big display case of available treats. We just got one plain cinnamon sugar one and a POG filled one as well. They were ready, hot and fresh when we arrived and we grabbed a little table outside to enjoy them. The plain one was tender and sweet and the POG filled one was bursting with flavor. It was an exceptionally orange color so be careful of your clothing as the filling likes to squirt out! We got the coffee as well which as others had mentioned was exceptionally hot, so do make sure it give it a few minutes and be careful. A nice patio outfront was there for us to enjoy our treats and listen to the local birds chirp. read more

Was staying accross the street so popped in this cute cafe! They have outdoor seating and it feels very local and cheers-esque where they have some regulars. It's only open til noon FYI. I believe we came here 2 times during our one week stay in Kauai. Honestly wish we'd made it a third because I wanted to try the French toast SO badly but even getting there by 7:35am-ish we still didn't make it on time and it was sold out. Visited last year and had to come back for a second round. Even with the rain outside patio area is covered enough to enjoy meal without getting wet. We were super excited to see that they now make their tasty malasadas everyday. We ordered the paniolo breakfast sandwich with Chipotle mayo on side, an iced latte with oat milk, brewed coffee, Keylime malasada and an Ube malasada. The paniolo breakfast sandwich was delicious. The bread they use is a soft with a hint of sweetness and perfect for the bacon, egg,onion, and cheese inside. My iced latte and brewed coffee were also perfect, and paired so well with our Malasadas. The star of the show was definitely the key lime malasada. In fact, I can only name one other brewery besides this one. The breakfast sandwiches are the main attaction here, in my opinion. Stopped in on our first day of vacation in Lihue. We were staying just a block away from the Bakery. The malasadas were out of this world! I had the coconut filled and my hub had the sugared one. We tried the Matcha Malasada and the ube shortbread and they were both very good. The malasada was warm and fresh. The matcha cream didn't really taste of matcha at all, but it was the right color. It tasted more of cream cheese. While I didn't like this aspect of it, the bake was good so overall, I was still able to enjoy it. The ube shortbread was good too with the right color, but again, can't really taste the ube flavor. I enjoyed the saltiness to this cookie. The malasadas are made fresh to order so they come out so good and warm! You can pick the flavor of cream filling that you'd like. We got 3 malasadas: POG, vanilla bean, and cookies and cream. The Ube Malasada has to be one of the best things I've EVER eaten in my life; no exaggeration. I'm so glad that I took the recommendation of the person behind the counter to try it. My family and friends are sick of hearing me talk about how amazing it was. I genuinely will go back to Kauai from CA one day to have it again. Passion Bakery Cafe was walking distance from where my husband and I were staying during our Kauai holiday vacation, so we ended up going there a few times over the week. There were so many malasada flavours to try so we'd pick a few different ones to share each visit - POG was definitely a favourite! Timing seems key here as there was always a line when we went - sometimes the line was shorter and sometimes longer. That being said, most people seemed to order to-go, so we never had trouble finding a seat after ordering. Despite the busy-ness, the staff were always friendly, relaxed (island vibes?), and happy to offer suggestions if you felt overwhelmed by all the options. They also offer other sweet and savoury items, but we stuck to the malasadas - with zero regrets. Malasadas was crazy good without the filling, but the ube was a compliment while mango and pog was more a contrast .(and I love everything mango). After reading the rave reviews, we just had to stop in to Passion Bakery Café to try the malasadas, which are apparently only available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. It's a small place in an unassuming shopping center with outdoor seating only. You order at the counter, and someone usually brings your order to you outside when it's ready. Don't come here if you are in a hurry. There's usually a line, and it does not usually move quickly. Your order may not come up quickly either, but there's a reason. The quality here is amazing and worth the wait. They serve a lot more than malasadas here, and the plates of food I saw go by definitely looked impressive. They also serve beverages, including coffee. But I can vouch for the malasadas. Once I got them back to my condo, my wife and I devoured them. We ordered two sugarcoated ones with POG filling and two cinnamon-sugar coated ones with espresso filling. Oh my. The dough was soft and delicious, and the filling was heavenly--not artificial tasting at all. The best malasadas I have tasted anywhere. If you have the time, do yourself a favor and stop in here. I'll be honest, I was never a big fan of the Pastries for breakfast, but now I am / and I blame these folks. I'm putting in a container home over here and I got a small crew of guys working for me both here and on Maui to put in two homes for me and they were highly recommended by of all people the British guy on the crew so it's a staple every time I go over there. It's like going to a whole different world when you go over that island though a lot of things you're familiar with on the other islands that are not here it's definitely a different trip but beautiful place so if you stop in there, ask for a any fruity pastry and sit back and smell the coffee & enjoy the ambiance.
