We got there pretty early but apparently not early enough...the case was pretty bare with only a few pastry items left. I thought they had stuffed malasadas but they did not. Only small plain ones. Small business bakery. The owner was very kind. I went in late in the day and told her I was looking for the crab pastry's which were already sold out. She held some for me the following day. It was much appreciated! She even recommended the Portuguese sausage pastry over the crab one. And she was not lying! It was the best! If you come to Kaua'i, this bakery is a must try! It's been a few years since we bought food from here.So we decided to try here again.So I remembered this place and I knew they serve breakfast all day.So perfect!. My girlfriend wanted the Kim Chee fried rice omelette n side order bacon and I of course ordered my favorite.The Big boy Locomoco side order Mac salad no rice.So I called in the order and the estimated time was about 10 minutes.When I arrived the food was already done.The person that was there I don't know but,it's just me It didn't feel inviting .He didn't smile,Oh wells every one had their days.So on with the food.My girlfriend did enjoy here meal although the gravy was a little salty and the portion was to me a little skimpy.My Big boy Locomoco was good!.The burger's was cooked perfectly and the over easy eggs was just right. Stopped by for some crab rolls which I can't get back home. My favorite crab roll spot on the island closed down but knew we had to stop by and fulfill the craving. They offered spicy crab rolls here which my husband said were better than the regular ones. Had the pork manapua whoch was a little too wet for my liking but my husband liked it. My favorite of all was the apple pastry. So delicious we fought over it. Breakfast is served all day and I want to come back for the kimchee fried rice omelette (reasonably priced). This used to be our go to spot for great breakfast burritos and savory pastries. I don't know if it's inflation or what but it is NOT THE same. We got a burrito and there was no meat and asked for extra cheese and instead got no cheese. Also the size of burrito used to be HUGE now they're smaller than a Taco Bell breakfast burrito. Ahhh... Hanalima!! I missed out on all your goodness. I was not a good planner and we went there mid-morning on Thanksgiving. The display case was CLEANED OUT. We were too late...There was not one spicy crab roll or portuguese sausage roll left. Not a one... I was so sad. The gentleman came out from the kitchen to help us but they were only doing order pick ups for Thanksgiving that morning. Everything was spoken for. I will plan accordingly next time and make sure not to miss out. We had some of their delicious baked goods at the local farmers market right by their shop on Saturdays. Friendly service but the crab roll was underwhelming. It was like 95% bread and a barely few pieces of crab. Granted it's a roll, it was pretty dry and probably not worth $3.80 after taxes to me. I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for breakfast. We had driven by the Hanalima Bakery a number of times while on Kauai and so on this day decided to give it a try. The inside of this shop is somewhat small with a display case, cooler and then a menu above/behind the counter. On the day that we were eating there the lady behind the counter was pleasant. After looking over all of the items in the display case I ultimately decided on the spicy crab roll while my wife went with the bacon and egg croissant. Prices here were reasonable as both of our items cost maybe $3 or so. As soon as I got in the car I dug into my crab roll. It was delicious as they yeasted dough was present and around the edges you could really taste the crab. They weren't kidding about the spice either as it was strong but perfect for the roll in my opinion. Later on in the day I was also able to try my wife's croissant which was tasty as it was light and flaky while the eggs and bacon inside were nice. The bottom line for me is that I would come back here again in the future. Both my wife and I enjoyed the savory baked goods which we had purchased and I thought that the prices were more than reasonable too! read more

Little hole in the wall bakery. I had the crab bun, the Portuguese, sausage bun, and the flying saucer. Only negative about this review is that there is not a lot of meat in these buns. My favorite was the Portuguese sausage bun. It was very tasty. Second favorite was the flying saucer which had very little ceiling in it. This bakery is open only on the weekdays and until 1pm. Since they run out of rolls quickly, you may want to do a quick detour before you start your strenuous hike in the island. It is also conveniently located less than 10 minutes away from the Lihue airport, for those looking for a quick and cheap bite before their flight (I'm typing this as we are driving to the airport). I honestly don't know why some people complained about the rolls not having enough meat. For $2.44, the rolls did more than enough for me. The spicy crab roll has a nice kick and was my favorite. My boyfriend loved the Portuguese sausage roll. The meat is minced and spread around layers of the roll, which I prefer over a thick chunk of sausage in the middle of a roll. The blueberry roll was too sweet for me, but again, my boyfriend was a fan. Disclaimer though, he'd eat glue if it were sweet. They also have other lunch items and spam musubi for those interested. So, get a few rolls and swallow them whole the moment you get back to your car. You won't regret it. read more

Hanalima is an unassuming local bakery that closes at 1PM and sells out of most of its baked deliciousness well before that time. The locals know to get here early in the morning. I've learned to call ahead, and ask them to save a couple of their spicy crab rolls for me. This is the only bakery that sells the Kauai flying saucer (bread filled with sloppy joe) all year round. Get the spicy crab rolls and flying saucer warmed up. Another tasty tidbit is the "bango" (banana and mango) bread, which goes well with a cup of coffee. The bakery is closed on weekends and holidays, so if you're on the island for only a holiday weekend, you'll miss out. read more

My friends and I came here because one of our friend's sister absolutely loves this place for their cookies. The bakery is fairly small and by the time we went in, there weren't that many pastries out. Also, we saw a fly flying around the pastries INSIDE the case ... it even landed on one of the baked goods. *Shudders* ... Wasn't exactly what I wanted to see if I wanted to eat here but hey, what can you expect right? I ended up with a box of their assorted butter cookies and I also ordered an fried rice omelette from them. The butter cookies were very good, very light and it practically crumbled in my mouth. But I wouldn't say they were out of the world or anything. As for the fried rice omelette, they actually topped with it with gravy and cheese. I actually did not realize that they put gravy on it ... I'm not exactly a fan of gravy. The egg was very nice, it wasn't well done or anything, it was exactly right -- so no hardness .. almost the same texture as scrambled eggs.
