Came here twice on our 1 week trip. Everything we had was great! Kalua pig loco moco was one of the favorites for our family. Tiny little place all the staff that work there were so pleasant. And the Hawaiian fried rice upgrade - totally worth it!

Since when did hiding rotten brown avocado under garnishes become a thing? I mean, we all love avocado, and we all understand that bruised, yucky ones come along like 25 percent of the time, and have to be thrown away, as a minor sacrifice to our avo gods. I myself am not too picky! But the 'Famous' avo toast I received here had brown and yucky avo slices concealed under some salad items and it was too gross even for me. It wasn't just a piece or two- it was all the pieces. It was clear that this avo needed to be sacrificed and just somehow made it onto my plate anyways. I sent it back and they replaced the dish but I am having a hard time understanding how this happens, especially at a place that advertised its avo toast like it is the best thing since sliced bread. On the plus side, it's a fun vibe inside with board games, and the merch in this shop is pretty cool and they sell t-shirts for reasonable prices.

Our first stop upon arriving at Kauai and it really hit the spot! Got a smoothie and the fried rice (as well as a musubi to go) and it was all delicious. Extra mahalo to Leighton who was super friendly and attentive...we'll be back to try the avocado toast that they are known for!

Great food and service. Bought a few hoodies and a hat too. We drove past this spot at least 5 times and I thought we should stop but finally it was the right timing today. We loved our food and smoothie. I will definitely go back.

Amazing loaded avocado toast--smoked salmon, course sea salt, pickled onion, feta cheese, cucumber, grape tomatoes, chopped red pepper, green onion and of course--avocado! All towering over 2 slices of sourdough toast. The coffee and fresh pineapple juice were next-level, too. The space is funky--a motley assortment of packaged food, clothes, souvenirs and thrift store stuff adds to the eclectic atmosphere, while Hawaiian reggae plays. The server was friendly and welcoming, very personable. Overall, a one-of-a-kind experience. If you're looking for a fantastic breakfast or lunch that's not your typical tourist trap, this is it!

    Hawaiian Cubano and Local Favorite

A wonderful spot for breakfast and lunch! Today we had The Islands Local Favorite and Chef Ariel's Famous Hawaiian Cubano. The Cubano was my favorite Cuban sandwich I've ever had!! All of the ingredients popped and combined for a wonderful taste explosion. It came with a delicious house-made tortilla soup. The Local Fav was also quite tasty. The pork butt had a wonderful, smoky flavor. The pork, veggies, and sauce combined really well. I also had an excellent Caramel Latte, brewed with the coffee from the plantation here on Kaua'i. We want to come back and try some breakfast food, as well as having another Cubano.

We discovered this place by my daughter looking at reviews. We were a little skeptical pulling up but oh my gosh the people and the food are absolutely phenomenal!!

The first and the best meal that I had when first arrived the island. Me and my mom love the crab sourdough, If I called it right. Price is fair compare to the entire island Definitely would like to go back if I have another chance to visit.

Awesome food! Crazy big servings! Had the Red Eye Poke bowl made gluten-free and it was mmm mmm good. The hubs had Island Magic Mike's Loco Moco - a big plate of food to keep us full for a day of hiking. Definitely gonna add this to our must stop list. The service made us feel like family.

Ordered the lox bagel and was ono. Waitress was really nice. Food came out slow but was worth the wait. Order ahead if taking out. It's a retail/restaurant style place.

So good!! Got the triple burger and lox, no complaints, definitely coming back, highly recommend. Fun vibes over there.

We came here to visit the Pineapple store and happened to stumble upon this breakfast place. The owner was very nice and welcoming. She cooked an awesome breakfast (the best breakfast we had on our trip). I had the breakfast burrito and my wife had the Avocado Toast! The food was excellent and chatting with the owner gave us some local insight on activities that we went through with on our trip! This is a new business (open for 5 months). We love supporting small businesses and you should too. We will definitely be back!

We are so happy to have stopped in to Red Eye Snack Shack during our vacation on Kaua'i! The ladies there are so attentive and the food is so ono (that means so good if ya don't know). The fried rice is some of the best I've had and the banana bread is definitely the best I've ever had! The place has such a homey feel...I feel like I'm having a meal at my aunty's house. I highly recommend you stop by this little snack shack on the side of the road. You won't be disappointed!

The ahi nachos were a bit disappointing for us. The ahi itself was fresh and tasted great, but the "nachos" were actually more like fried wontons instead of traditional nacho chips, which felt a little odd and just wasn't really our thing. It would've helped if that was disclosed on the menu or if the server gave a quick heads up beforehand so expectations were clearer. On the positive side, the Tempura Ahi Bites were our favorite dish out of everything we ordered, definitely the standout item for us. The rib plate was also decent with satisfying portions overall.

We stopped by on a Tuesday around 8:30AM and got our pick of malasadas to try out! Kauai Bakery is located in a shopping plaza with plenty of ample parking, making it very easy to stop by and grab some delicious pastries. Service is like your typical bakery, you pick what you would like and they get it to you so you can stuff your face immediately after purchase. Ambiance is cozy with plenty of pastries to pick from in the large display case. We got 4 flavors of Malasadas for $16, which is $4 per doughnut, which I think is a decent price for the size and heft. The flavors we sampled were Lilikoi, Coconut, and Guava - out of these flavors, the coconut one was my personal favorite! The flavor was exactly what I would want anything coconut cream flavor should taste, creamy texture with a pleasant coconut taste that didn't taste artificial at all. It captured the floral background taste that is missing from a lot of coconut desserts that makes coconut so pleasing to eat! The Lilikoi one was my next favorite, it had a slight tartness and a more subtly pronounced flavor - I think I was looking for something stronger personally. Lastly was the guava one, which actually tasted a bit artificial and didn't have a pronounced flavor at all, which was unfortunate. Despite this critique, I would still glady inhale 2 or 3 of them because the dough was really pillowy and really enjoyable to eat. I think that the pastries here (at least the malasadas) are very solid and priced competitively vs most things here on Kauai. I would totally come back to get several more of the malasadas as well as try the other pastry options on the menu. Stop by and give this bakery a try if you are in the area!

We got there around 6:30am and there were many choices of pastries. We chose a few different flavored malasadas and coffee. The malasadas tasted good but I wasn't blown away. I wish they were served warm. Staff are very nice and friendly. Store super clean and cutely decorated.

We came upon this lovely little Filipino place back in August and had to return to take the rest of…read moreour family, specifically for the pan de sal. It's incredible and the most delicious homemade Filipino bun ever! My kids were also incredulous of how wonderful it tasted. During this visit we also tried the chicken adobo (better than my Filipino mom's version and better than the way I prepare it!) Wow, again best ever chicken adobo dish! My hubby got the breakfast plate that had sausages and rice. He loved it. Also got the chicken tinola and pork adobo on a second visit and more pan de sal! The shopkeepers are so nice and friendly. It's a pleasure supporting this local small business. It will definitely be a place we'll return to over and over again during future visit to Kauai! Highly recommend! There were many locals who came too! The lovely owner grandma said they've changed the name of the restaurant, because she's handed it down to her son and he'll run the business. Thank you for preparing and serving delicious Filipino food!

Love being able to get freshly baked pan de sal in the morning and R&J has them. So good while…read morestill hot... I got half a dozen one morning and had to have some right away in the car. I should've got a dozen. This place is a small Filipino bakery and turo-turo joint on Rice Street in Lihue in between Rob's Good Times Grill and the bowling alley. The Tita that helped us was friendly and I was going to get a bag of their homemade chicharon but decided against it. She laughed when I changed my mind. They have some vegetables for sale scattered about the small retail space out front. But the main draw is their baked goods and their hot food to-go. I saw everything from biko (sticky rice dessert), musubis, empanadas, suman (sticky rice wrapped in banana leaf) for baked and packaged goods. Then they had pancit, dinuguan, fried fish and pork adobo. There were several other offerings that I cannot recall. Pan de sal was 3 for $1 or a dozen for $4. Gotta get the dozen. Parking is in the share lot right out front or street parking along Rice if the plaza is packed.
