Mark's Place serves hefty and tasty rice plates with decent pricing so it's a great bang for your buck! My family enjoyed the chicken katsu and the chili chicken (not spicy at all). You order inside and get a beeper. The front desk lady was quick in getting our orders. There's seating outdoors by the trees. They have so much food to offer that I would definitely come back to check it out. read more

I thought overall this place was very good from the quality of the food. We ordered half loco moco and half chicken cutlet. Everything about it was great. The fry on the chicken was crispy on the outside, breading was the right amount, and the chicken was juicy. The loco mock burger was flavorful and egg was perfect over easy. The brown gravy made everything even better. The person taking the order was kind enough for us to figure out what we wanted. I also noticed there aren't too many places that seating but this place does have some picnic benches to eat outside. Overall, was our favorite Hawaiian food in Kauai. read more

This is a must stop for us when we land in Kauai! Solid local plate lunches that don't skimp on portions. Service was good and fast. Walked in, ordered, and waited till the buzzer went off. Got the food and it looks the same like it always does! Ordered a beef stew and loco moco plate, a loco moco for my son, and a pumpkin crunch. All were great choices and nothing was left. My wife proclaimed the pumpkin crunch to be the best she's ever had. A classic must stop in Kauai! Don't skip this place! read more

I'm crying inside because I miss their food so much! One of the best loco moco's I've ever had. And that gravy... its gold! On our last day on the island, we wanted to take some home with us. But how do we get the gravy past TSA?? The rule was no more than 3.3oz per container. Tyren to the rescue! He suggested putting the gravy in 2 small clear plastic containers that were under 3oz each! Hurray! It worked. All that liquid gold made it through TSA and we were able to enjoy our loco moco in California. Great service. Small hole in the wall. Lots of grab n' go lunch boxes. Popular! OK, stop crying now :) read more

First stop after landing in Kauai was a quick lunch at Mark's Place. I *love* loco mocos, so as soon as I saw this place near the airport, I knew I had to come. We stopped by for Thursday lunch around 12:30 and it wasn't too packed. You order inside and then find a seat at one of the picnic benches outside. It was hot and humid so most people were sitting in the limited shaded spots. I got the loco moco ($18.49 for regular) and my friend got the teriyaki chicken sandwich ($9.49). Our food was ready after ~10 minutes. The loco moco was super solid. Everything tasted great and I was a big fan of both the patty and the gravy. The only thing is that the patty was a bit burnt on the underside. Also portions were a bit off, as they gave way too much rice (couldn't finish it all) and gravy wasn't enough. I could've easily used twice the amount of gravy. Interestingly, they also give some chow mein as a side in addition to the mac salad. I tried some but personally found it too sweet. My friend liked his teriyaki chicken sandwich. It's on the smaller side but makes for a great snack if you're not super hungry. read more

Came here after hearing about it from different sources and so glad we did. Huge portions. We ordered the mix plate that had steak, beef stew and cutlet each one was better than the next! The rice was cooked to perfection and I am still thinking about their salad! Simple lettuce and canned corn but flavorful as heck. All I was full of meat and flavor. Counter service was quick. We will definitely be back. Outdoor tables were nice but could be cleaned as there was bird poop on them and made it difficult to eat around. Nowhere to wash hands and we didn't spot any had sanitizer. read more

(Late review - July 2024) This place was recommended by a friend since it was the hubby and my first time in Kauai. Only outside seating is available. Portion size are large. Decent price for the portion. Flavors were pretty good. Service was quick. Bottom line: Easy and quick fix for some local Hawaiian food. read more

This place is better than it has a right to be! The people are friendly , but it's just a shack with a few picnic tables outside. I ordered the Kalbi Ribs and my wife got the chicken katsu. The portions were huge and tasted wonderful. Even the white rice was tasty! Highly recommend. read more

Went to Mark's Place for lunch, and it was super busy, as expected. The food is good, especially the chicken katsu and loco moco, and this was my third time visiting. Just be prepared to wait between 25-40min for food. They do let you know about the wait in advance, so at least there are no surprises. Parking can also be a bit challenging. There's a dirt lot behind the restaurant where you may have to double-park, so if you do park there, one person needs to stay with the car. Also, there are no public restrooms available. If I had one recommendation for Mark's Place, it would be to work on the customer service. I completely understand that they're busy, but each time I've been there, the staff behind the register have come across as a little curt. It's noticeably different from the generally friendly and welcoming service you experience at many other places on Kauai. Overall, the food is good and worth trying--you just need to be prepared for the wait and a more no-nonsense service experience. read more

I've had Mark's place twice and both times were delectable. It's very authentic Hawaiian food with great portions and incredibly fresh. The teriyaki chicken is *chef's kiss* and I wish I could buy the mac salad in bulk. The location is convenient given that it's not too far from Costco. The staff is very friendly and warm. If there's ever a wait, there's a seating area and they do their best to move quickly. Highly recommend. read more

Marks Place is very unique in their local dishes of plate lunches. They cook everything to order and they have daily specials too.

Firstly small parking lot but you'll eventually find a spot as people coming and going. The service is pleasant nothing crazy. Took about 15mins to get our food. Couldn't take a photo of the masubis as I demolished them. We went straight here after landing and it was delicious. The mini katsu came with noodles, rice and ketchup. Even the noodles were well seasoned and the katsu was delicious. We also got the combo box with beef and Korean chicken which was also really good! Restaurant has no seating it's more of a to go place that has tables outside and roosters to enjoy! read more

This is one of the "locals" places and truly it is not bad but it's just not what I have come to expect on Kauai. The loco moco was good, the Korean chicken was as well but the Lau lau was just not good. And the mixed plate was no better than just "ok" The place is a small counter service location with picnic tables that had an ant infestation. Probably won't be back because there are just so many outstanding places on Kauai read more

I finally get to try Mark's Place, been on my bookmarks for the longest time. Due to the business hours, they close on the weekends and happy to be on Kauai on a weekday. Lucky I checked the hours and I made adjustments to our eating out agenda. We didn't have a rental car yet, so we took an Uber from hotel, busy little hole in the wall with picnic tables available outside for enjoying your plate lunch. Place order at store and you will be notified via beeper. So many great choices on the menu, local kine grinds! Best to check Instagram for specials of the day, desserts and updates. I wanted the fish special of the day but also wanted to try the beef stew and the chicken. I opted for the 3 item combo. Colorful bento were also available and musubi, perfect for beach or your flight. We waited about 5 minutes for our plate, they were busy with non-stop customers coming in, popular business for sure! The plate is huge, this was more than enough for 2, for my 3 item combo I got chicken cutlet, chicken katsu and beef stew. I got salad and rice as sides. The plate also comes with fried saimin noodles. I got both gravy and katsu sauce on the side. The verdict- broke the mouth, we really enjoyed our plate lunch and the beef stew, Ono! Cooked so perfect, we never had beef stew for the longest time and that for sure hit the spot. The dessert of the day wasn't my favorite, it was an OREO one, the only available ones so we missed out on the dessert, next time as I heard my neighbor who is form Kauai mentioned that they have good desserts too! All in all, we enjoyed our first time visit to Mark's Place and I recommend. Good Stuff, I need to plan my Kauai trip around the weekdays so I can visit again. & Price for plate ( 3 item plate about $19.) is not bad for the portion size! You get our 5 stars! read more

Ah yes - my final meal in my Hawaii saga. It was a grand finale indeed - got the Hamburger Steak Loco Moco and man was it wonderfully delicious. A sloppy mish mash of perfectly blended flavors - a perfectly cooked pattie topped with a runny egg that ran perfectly texture-wise with the also ever so flowy gravy atop the dish. A generous and affordable helping - friendly staff that served it that were really patient with me while I decided what to order. Wish it had more seating, but that is such a small and unimportant complaint - had a picnic table out front all to myself and got to reflect on everything I had done to that point, and it just felt like the perfect Hawaiian comfort food and finale. Authentic, affordable, accessible, and delicious. Thankful I got to try this place! read more

Super casual hole in the wall spot with delicious plate lunches. The chicken katsu was the favorite and I liked the teriyaki beef in the mixed plate. The beef stew was my least favorite of the three and we're still on the search for more poke. The macaroni and potato salad was excellent. It's order at the counter, get a buzzer, and wait for your food. There are a number of picnic tables outside. Overall a tasty and great first meal upon arrival to Kauai. read more

Now this place is on most every locals list to eat. I have to tell you as a tourist it was the hardest place I've tried to eat at ever! Beware the hours posted are NOT the hours they are open. I had to find out the hard way after three trips during the week they are open when they feel like it and closed to go fishing whenever they feel like it. I guess it's a local thing? Even when you call and talk to them several times they lie a tell you 6pm and close at 2 or 3! "Gone Fishing" Was it worth the 3rd attempt to eat there? The food was good and the portions plenty full. It's definitely a local restaurant accommodating the locals and surrounding businesses/employees for lunch hours. read more

Small establishment, for takeout only. It has a few tables and benches right outside to enjoy the food right away. Friendly women working the counter taking our orders. MASSIVE portions, no wait, and plenty of seating. Mark's Place was a favorite of mine and my husband's when we visited Kauai on our honeymoon. Don't miss the beef stew or loco moco. We each had our own plate (more than enough food) and were full lunch through breakfast the next morning. read more

6/28/24 Mark's Place came highly recommended by a friend for their loco moco. It's not a restaurant, more of a cafeteria order what you want, pay and sit outside with picnic tables environment. We ordered (2) regular Loco Moco and (1) Mark's Famous Mix Plate, a Korean chicken Musubi, a large fries and 4 drinks from the fridge. My oldest son said the Loco Moco had good flavor, hubs thought it was ok. Mixed Plate was huge. Chicken Katsu was crispy on the outside and tender on inside. Mac salad was yum, had to go back for 2 more scoops for the not so little one. The beef stew was very tender, tomato base flavor. I didn't have any Teri beef (it looked dry) - but was told it was very soft jerky texture. I also didn't try the saimin, was told it was a smoky flavor. I did have a Korean chicken Musubi, that was pretty good. Staff was really nice. No public bathroom, good amount of parking available. read more

We heard great things about this place from some local friends and all our expectations were met. Since Mark's is really close to the airport, my SO and I stopped for lunch here before getting on a helicopter tour. We were kind of worried about getting airsick on the tour (we didn't), so we opted to share a plate- but since the food was so delicious we both wished we could have gotten our own plates! To sample a bit of everything, we went with a 3-choice combo plate with loco moco, chicken katsu, and teriyaki beef, then got mac salad and chow mein on the side. Every single item was excellent but the chicken katsu stood out the most for me. We also took a banana macadamia nut loaf to go, and it was moist and just the right amount of sweetness. We had our food outside under the watchful gaze of several chickens. I don't have a single bad thing to say about Mark's Place apart from the tight parking and how bummed I am about their limited service hours. They're only open from 10:30am - 2:30pm Monday through Friday, so make sure to schedule some time to try their food before they close for the day. - Ambiance: 5/5 - Service: 4/5 - Food: 5/5 read more

I like to stop here after landing and before a Costco trip because they're close by. I usually order the beef stew here and in the past it was really good. Just landed in the Garden of Isle, first meal is from here. And oh what a feast! After we got our rental car we immediately drive straight here to grab some lunch and t'was a great decision. With only two people in our front and the service was fast I am really impressed. Their customer service is also great and they were so helpful. Prices here are very reasonable and they have great menu choices. They even offer brown rice available upon request. Great! I got lunch plate in here and because it is on a big serving & I don't wanna get full too much coz I wanna grab dinner later I share it with my Dumdumz. Plate lunches come with choice of white/brown rice or green tossed salad. I got brown rice, greens on the side & their Korean chicken - all I can say is so ONOLICIOUS! But the rice is a bit mushy though. The chicken on the other hand was so crunchy, and the batter was seasoned well. Inside was definitely juicy & not dry at all. They have available seating areas outside and the vibes is so homey. You gotta try this place. They've been serving patrons since 1998 & they were loved by many locals. I would definitely recommend this eatery and as possible never leave the island without trying their menu. Mahalo for reading & happy juandering fellow Yeeps. read more

How oh how does a place stay so consistently amazing for the 12 years I've been visiting this beautiful island???? This place is awesome! Best Hawaiian bbq in Kauai. Huge portions. Quality meat & rice. The potato mac salad is a mix between your classic Hawaiian mac salad & potato salad - we liked it. Worth a try if you like Hawaiian bbq! The location is interesting - just in the middle of a bunch of warehouses, but that shouldn't deter you from coming. But it's worth a trip. They don't have seating inside, but we sat outside at the picnic tables. My one negative is that an extra teriyaki sauce cost over $1 :( but the food is flavorful enough that you don't need it. It would be nice to have with the rice, but I'd probably pass next time. Make sure you check the days they're open/closed, as well as the hours!
