Chicken nishime over rice with the last morsels of sweet and sour spareribs;)
    Karen S.

Love the decor and music which is full of faith and peace. It was so relaxing to dine in, enjoy light rock praise music and eat yummy local food! This is the chicken nishime over rice and the extra sweet sour spareribs that weren't enough for a a full serving. So naturally my tip was very generous;). See you on my next trip to Lihue for sure!!!

We found Sone's while comparing the various food options in this center. We were attracted by the menu prices and the décor of Faith and Worship. The prices appeared lower than their competitors so we went in for lunch. Unfortunately, it was not the pleasant experience we expected. When we entered, a lady to the right called out a young man to staff the counter. He came out looking agitated to have to come help. He ran his hands through his hair, pulling it back, then asked what we wanted. We thought about leaving due to sanitation concerns, but then the lady came to take over. We asked her to describe the menu, Box Lunches vs Lunch Plates. She was vague and said Boxes were premade, but Lunch Plates you get to choose from the hot food displayed through the glass, similar to Panda Express. We chose the 2 Choice lunch for $10.85. We ended up being charged $16.19, so we asked why. She said our choices were $1.75 each because they were on the Special Item list. We then noticed that nearly every hot item was on the Special list except noodles or appetizers. So our two choices added $3.50. Plus she said the Container cost $0.55. Curious how it would have been served had we opted for no Container. Anyway, what we thought was a reasonable price of $10.85 for a two item lunch actually totaled $16.19. Sone's turned out to be more expensive in the end than other options in that center, and the portion was smaller than their competitors. We wanted to support what appeared to be a local run restaurant, but left disappointed with the experience because we felt a bit of bait and switch with the low menu listing before the extra charges. We recommend going to the other food business at this food court.

I love this place! I called Diane before I came to ask about what chicken I should try. She told me to come in and she would have me sample them. I appreciated this because it gave me an opportunity to see what would work with my taste buds. I tried the chicken that begins with the letter 'M' that's o ly served on Thursdays and the lemon chicken. I bought them both. The Namasu was fresh and they had brown rice. Awesome! Diane was very friendly and helpful to us. I would return here again and again. Thank you!

Fried chicken and hamburger steak 2 choice plate

Almost a day full of errands, one last stop at Kukui Grove. Very limited choices of eateries, but one place I haven't been in years! Originally wanted a bento, but they ran out for the day. Luckily they got some delicious looking local grinds to choose from. So I chose fried chicken & hamburger steak, wow! The crispiness and flavor of the fried chicken almost brought me memories of Hanamaulu Cafe! The hamburger steak was really soft, little too much on the shoyu side, but still delicious. And there was a piece of shrimp something, I can't seem to remember the name of it, but it's a Japanese favorite and you'll most likely see it in a bento or okazuya. There were open tables inside, perfect for the passing showers outside. Really appreciate samples of the fish and how generous the guy was with portions!

I had a hard time finding Sone's because of google maps. Enter shopping center and look for food court. Got a plate lunch with 3 items and it was all so tasty! I had fried chicken that was dipped in some delicious sauce, tempura and butter fish. All the entrees looked delicious. It was really hard to choose. Come here and try everything. A lot of the dishes remind me of home cooking. Bonus was the band playing on food court right in front of restaurant.

Huge variety of great options! Service is quick and prices are affordable. The portions are generous; my mix plate was lunch and dinner! I'm looking forward to trying more of their choices, everything looked and smelled delicious.

    Lots of food!

We ordered take out from here. Food is tasty. You can order made to order or counter food. Portions are generous for the price. Located in the Kukui Grove Center's food court. Great spot to come for local food.

Try the lunch menu plate with noodles/white rice , tempura shrimp, garlic fish sticks (delicous) and BOMB delicious meatloaf.

The first night, my husband ordered the prime rib special with mac salad and rice, which was basically his dream come true, and I got the loco moco, which I shared with my toddler. Everything was flavorful, comforting, and exactly what we were craving. We enjoyed it so much that we came back on our final night and ordered the galbi and lechon kawali. Once again, every dish was a hit. The proteins were flavorful and filling, and the mac salad deserves its own shoutout. It may be my favorite mac salad on the island. This is absolutely the kind of place we'll return to on our next visit. It's also conveniently located near the airport, making it a great first stop when you arrive or a last meal before heading home. A couple things to know before you go: parking was easy when we visited, but there isn't any seating. This is very much a pick-up-and-go spot. I'd recommend calling ahead and placing your order so you're not waiting around. Great food, generous portions, and the kind of local spot you hope to find when traveling. We'll definitely be back.

My wife and I were hungry after arriving into Kauai after dinner time, so wanted something quick and easy before we checked into our hotel. It was good. It's humid in Hawaii and with the inside being well air conditioned, there was a thick layer of condensation on the windows, making it hard to tell if the dining room was even open or not. But it was, so decided to dine-in. I used the McDonald's app to place and pay for the order, entering the table number. Otherwise this location is automated, with 2 large kiosks taking orders. The food came out pretty fast in a takeout bag, with my name and table number being yelled out loudly (guess they don't do table delivery here, which is fine...though wish they would not offer it on the app in that case). My mood brighten greatly when I realized the large fries ($4.99) had been freshly cooked. The buy one, get one for $1 still applied here (if done on the app) so got two double cheeseburgers, one for $4.19 and the second for $1. They now have a mini McFlurry available, so got the OREO flavor for $2.99 (really hit the spot since the soft serve used was really good and we liked how the oreo cookie pieces were finely crushed), and added a large Diet Coke ($1.99). Pretty confident it will be the cheapest, filling meal we will get during our trip.

Yes it's true... when traveling with your kids and your favorite Mother-in-Law to Kauai, you best expect a few requests for fast food. So after spending the day on the East Side of the Island, the kids were hungry so we stopped off at McDonalds in Kapa`a. From there, while in the car traveling back to Poipu, maybe it was the smell of the French Fries or maybe it was the sip of coke she took from the kids drink, but suddenly my Mother-in-Law, aka Mema to the kids exclaimed... "I'm kinda hungry now, can we find another McDonald's?" Thankfully, McDonalds are strategically placed on Island and I knew exactly where to go: McDonald's in Lihue! So we pulled into Lihue, went straight for the drive-thru and got Mema her Big Mac for $7.99!!! (Apparently prices vary from McDonalds' to McDonald's) Service was quick, apparently the Big Mac hit the spot and all was well in the world again. Located right in the heart of Lihue... I gotta give it up to this Taco Bell in Lihue!!!!…read more Yeah, yeah, yeah...........I see the 2.5 overall rating of this fast food joint, but let Bruddah Fran state his case for da Bell. First of all, going to da Bell wasn't in my original plans, as I originally was trying to go to - "Daddy O's" in Lihue, but when I got there, it was closed. (Insert SAD Panda face here). Unfortunately for me, when I was doing work in Lihue I got hung up on a job, and by the time I got out, I really didn't have too much time left to grab something to eat before heading back to the airport to catch my flight home......... this is where Taco Bell came to my rescue. I'll be straight with you guys...........the food that I got the particular day when I came to this Taco Bell was a Solid "5", but the speed of service here is a SOLID "2", thus my overall score of a Solid 3.5 for da Bell, but Bruddah Fran is going to be generous and round it off to a "4" because I actually enjoyed da grub! I noticed when I drove up to this Taco Bell just across the street from the Kukui Grove Shopping Center, there was a super long line of cars in the drive up. Not wanting to wait in the drive up, I decided to park my rental car in the large parking lot, & walk into the restaurant to place my food order (thinking that it would be faster, WRONG!). When I walked into the restaurant, there was only one guy ahead of me, and after he placed his food order, I immediately was helped right afterwards. Upon looking over the wall menu, I ended up getting one of them combo meal packages (I forgot what numba it was), but it came with (2) Chicken Chalupa's, and a Taco (which I substituted for a Chicken Taco) & a large drink. What can I say about the grub? I was so hangry that I chomped my hard shell taco before getting a photo (sorry guys), but when I bit into that taco, I must say it was one of the FRESHEST taco shells I've ever bit into from a Taco Bell! They must have just gotten a fresh batch!!! As of the Chalupa's, just look at my photos, and you will see how fresh the ingredients they used to build my Chicken Chalupa's. No complaints about the food, only the wait for my food which was super long (probably due to the endless long lines from the drive-up). The wait time was so long, I started to worry about making it back to the airport on time to catch my flight home, but at the end, everything worked out for me. I got my grub, and I made it back to the airport (on time) to catch my flight home..........it also helped that Hawaiian Airlines canceled my flight to fly out a little later. Lol!
