It's a small, order at the counter place which only offers about 6 tables but most people order it for takeout. Wouldn't allow my child to finish their meal as they were closing. We called ahead to order the food and showed up on time but they were running late with food orders and it took longer than expected to have our food come out. I asked for five minutes so my child could finish his meal and was threatened by the waiter that he would call security to have us removed. So unnecessary to threaten your customers in this way especially a child eating, literally just needed five minutes to finish up which we politely asked for. read more

Going to be one of our must-stops in Kauai. We kind of accidentally ended up here when looking for lunch on our way back to resort and I'm so glad we did. Service was great - the man taking the order was very friendly and helpful with good recommendations. We ended up ordering the carne asada fries and birria tacos. My tacos were delicious but the carne asada fries were the WINNER. So absolutely addicting - they have tons of meat and good sauces layered on top of them. I had a really bad experience here yesterday that the owner and manager of this restaurant needs to know about. There was a young man clearly training a new employee on how to place orders. I ordered a burrito bowl from the only menu mounted over the counter (held the beans and rice since I can't eat it) and chose Al Pastor as my meat choice. The trainee asked "Al Pastor bowl?" and I thought that's same thing, so I said 'yes'. Al Pastor bowl is not listed anywhere on the menu. I also ordered a side of veggies which is listed on the menu and was told they don't offer that and the menu is outdated because hasn't been updated since they opened. When I got my food, there was no tomato, onions, or cilantro so I told them that all of this is missing from my burrito bowl. We argued back and forth that these items are supposed to come with my order and it's clearly listed on the menu that the burrito bowl comes with all of these items. I was told it's an extra charge and that I ordered a "special Al Pastor bowl" that wasn't listed on the menu. I had no idea that I didn't order the burrito bowl with Al Pastor as my meat choice because the trainee was confused and entered in the wrong order. The trainer was adamant that I didn't order the burrito bowl and refused to give me tomatoes, onions and cilantro so I basically paid $19 for a small bowl of lettuce and Al Pastor. Any reasonable establishment would have just given me the tomatoes, onions and cilantro especially since I already held the beans and rice. It's a Mexican restaurant for God's sake and it's not like I'm trying to cheat the system to get extra condiments! Nor is this an In-N-Out where they are a mass chain with a "secret menu" that everyone knows about. To the owner/manager of Filo's - update your menu if it's outdated and train your employees properly and teach them to have some reason when it comes to customer orders! read more

Absolute best fish tacos on island. So good that we came here twice in 1 week. They give you nice thick pieces of local caught grilled fish with lots of cabbage, pico and sauce. When you dine in, they give you cute little squeeze bottles of red and green sauce. We enjoyed the red sauce more since it was a bit spicier! read more

This place has a one of a kind vibe on the island, channeling their Mexican culture through the music and decor. We like their fish tacos and birria tacos. They give an abundance of cabbage with their tacos which I enjoy, and they give you 2 different bottles of hot sauce (red and green), we both enjoyed the red more as it was spicier with good flavor. We first tried this place last year and we make it a point to come here at least once when we're on island. We ate here twice during our week long stay. The first time we came, a nice guy was working who generously gave me the broth to try that comes with another birria menu item and it was delicious. My wife and I have been coming here since they were a food truck and always supported you guys. I always tip 15-20% even though its counter service because I want them to succeed. I go here at least 3-4 times a month and never had an issue. I never complain about the pricing because I enjoy the food and normally the counter service is good. But today the girl made me pay $1.50 for a side of salsa when she barely gave me any for my order!!! After I tipped $15 bucks for counter service!!!! Absolutely crazy. I have never seen her there before but I can promise we will never go back because of this. Since when does salsa cost $1.50? Especially with pricing like this and you give skimpy salsa portions with your food. Yall have never done that in all the years I have been coming here!!! Look at the picture of the salsa she gave us and then charged me when I went back in and asked for more. I bought dinner for 3 people and she gave me 1/4 filled cups of 4 red and 5 green. I love that this is an authentic recipe Mexican restaurant. While I would love a more traditional decoration, the decoration is urban street art with a fun beautiful nature spot broadcasted on their big screen tv to keep you entertained while you wait. The music is Ritmo Latino jams which adds to the flavor of the experience and food. I suggested adding Agua de Tamarindo and Jamaica to the basic line up of Agua Fresca. A Mexican must!! Today they had horchata, a fave pre- the non-dairy life. Stopped in after finishing a kayaking excursion down the road because the reviews were great, and it did not disappoint! We were visiting from Arizona and eat Mexican regularly, yet this was probably some of the best we've ever had. We are visiting Kaua'i and looked for Mexican food to try. This came highly recommended on Yelp. It is located in a very small commercial space near an Asian restaurant. Easy to spot once you see their food truck parked near the road. The place is small and simple, nothing fancy. Self seating for about 24-30 people. We placed our orders for mahi mahi fish tacos. It was a long wait, and it took a while to get our orders. We were there at dinner time, so we figured they were slammed with phone orders, people picking up to go orders, and a long line for those wanting to order and dine there. Once we got our orders, all looked good. Rice and beans came with two tacos. The fish was flavorful and cooked well. Sauce was not overpowering nor too spicy.
