Absolute gem of the food truck! It will take some time to get your food as they only have one or two people taking orders and cooking. But it is well worth the wait! I ordered the vegetarian option and was blown away by the flavor. Also, do not miss the elote! Seating is limited to two small tables. The BEST Mexican food on Kaua'i, no lies! We got the breakfast burritos at 1pm on a Wednesday. We parked on the dirt next to the skincare clinic--make sure to be past their sign/not inside the clinic's parking lot. Taco Libre is located in a lot with other food trucks, including Aloha Always which has the best açaí bowls. The lady working at the truck was super sweet and friendly, she recommended half al pastor and half carne asada for the burritos, and they did not miss! The tortilla had a beautiful grill on them but still soft, the cheese inside the burrito was ooey gooey and the meat was moist and flavorful with no fatty/chewy bits. The burrito was a great size and served with side of rice and beans. Both their red sauce and green sauces were delicious, I didn't find them spicy but some might. They also had pickled red onions and pickled jalapeños by the sauces and they were a tasty addition to our meal. Plenty of seating available all around the lot, Taco Libre has its own family style seating right next to their truck. We can't wait to come back and try more dishes from this food truck! Great Mexican food, and in Hawaii of all places. We got the Cali burrito. It was great and had both carne asada and al pastor meat. Solid salsas on the side too. Burrito was a bit small, but it was good. I lived in Mexico for a few years and I think any Mexican spot that only has Pepsi and not Coke is a little sus. Carne asada tacos hit the jackpot, spiced and cooked to perfection. Shrimp was tasty and the seafood burrito was jam packed with flavor and fillings. The salsas are a must try, they reel in the flavors of the dish and made it an outstanding meal. It's in a cool location just on the outskirts of the little downtown, you're close to a brewery and plenty of other shops. They even had live music onsite! The crew at this Koloa truck dishes up some mean Mexican food. You can tell it's good with one look; doesn't even take a taste to know! But no doubt, the bites are good too. I like the fresh ingredients and authentic style... every time I visit I'm transported back to my Mexico City trip of 2024 and felt Taco Libre would give that one famous Michelin star taco joint an absolute run for their money. Good people run this truck and when I'm in the area (usually Tuesdays for a trail run along the coast) I love to stop by and fuel up. I was drawn to this place because of the high reviews but was left quite disappointed with my dining experience at this food truck. After spending time perusing the menu and waiting in line for 20 minutes, I was disheartened to learn that they only offered tacos and quesadillas for the day, with no meat choices available (fish, shrimp, or seafood). After the wait, we caved in, ordered, and waited for another 20 mins for the food. Moreover, the pricing for these two options wasn't transparent until I reached the counter, and each order ended up costing $36 for 3x tacos or 3x quesadillas - $18 per order. To put it into perspective, $6 per regular sized taco is comparable to what one might pay at a restaurant, or even more expensive.That said, It would have been fine if the food was really good but it was average to below average (part of the quesadillas and the meat inside were burnt - see photo). I personally don't believe it was worth the time or the money. It just wasn't that special! read more
