We've been to the other Kenji Burger on the northside, so we knew what to expect when coming here. However what I did not get the last time was this Misoyaki fish sandwich. Black Cod has got to be one of the fattiest, tender, and delicious fish to ever swim the oceans. The sandwich was perfect. As always, the shoestring fries are nice and crispy, and they pair well the beer they have on tap. Service was decent. Nothing extraordinary. But sat down promptly, ordered quick, and food was out fast. No BS. It's probably a benefit to hire younger kids who don't really care, I loved it; no BS. All outdoor/covered seating like you're in a Lanai. Love that style. Really brings a vibe inside. The Giant TV also helps should the games be on. However the speaker was busted. It was cracking on high notes, and was very, very annoying. I asked the server to please turn it down, and she did, and it still cracked. So management, get that fixed. Will most likely be back, as its the solo burger joint in the area, and it does NOT let you down!

Order the old school burger lacked flavor tasted frozen. Very disappointing including the service although fast was horrible.

Food lacked taste and rice on rainbow roll was under cooked. The service was probably worse than the food. Would kit come back

Kenji burger was pretty good. The bun is nice and airy, too much dressing but it was great with the fries we ordered on the side

We arrived in Koloa starving and eventually deciding on Kenji's--and I'm so glad we did. We were greeted by a lovely hostess and quickly seated on their beautiful patio. The "wood lanai" vibe and umbrella tables offer the perfect mix of shade and island breeze. The standout discovery was the Kauai beef which is local grass-fed beef. You can truly taste the difference--it's incredibly fresh and light. My younger sister ordered the Kenji-style Loco Moco, and since she couldn't finish it, I happily stepped in. It was phenomenal. My older sister enjoyed the Kenji Burger, though she mentioned it was a bit heavy on the sauce (pro tip: that extra sauce makes for an excellent French fry dip!). I opted for the 3-taco appetizer. While the tacos were a bit on the small side, the oversized side salad helped fill the gap. Between the great atmosphere, friendly service, and quality local ingredients, this was the perfect first meal on Kauai.

Hadn't planned on coming here today, but bad weather and hungry stomachs changed our plans. The staff was nice and helpful, and the kitchen was getting the food out fast! My wife got the beef street taco, I got 2 tuna. She liked hers a lot. I loved mine. Mine were basically poke tacos in wonton taco shells. So good! The cucumbers reminded me of the pickles Dukes puts on some of Thierry appetizers. Really tasty. My burger is kind of a bbq burger with cheddar cheese and a slaw. Really good flavor. Enjoyed it. The truffle burger i thought tasted good. My wife didn't like it as much as I did as she thought it had to much sauce. I disagreed- but some reading this may agree with her. Overall really good. Not the greatest ever, but really good and should be a go to on Kauai.

Went here for dinner last night and it was great! Friendly and quick casual service. We ordered the loco moco, chicken katsu sandwich, coconut shrimp, and regular fries. It did not dissapoint. My fiance loved his loco moco and my chicken katsu sandwich was huge, it came with 2 katsu cutlets so I definitely had to take some to go. The coconut shrimp was yum and the fries were great too! I would want to try the furikake fries next time. I would definitely stop by if you're looking for something fast and filling. The ambiance is casual and there is a lot of seating.

Furikake Fries (next time I'll ask for them well done ). YUM!

Casual, comfortable, open air restaurant with reggae playing in the background. Fun atmosphere, most TV's around the restaurant are on football, one had an awesome surf competition playing. A little something for all. Mom and I had the Kenji burger (split it) with the cucumber salad and Furikake fries. WOW - everything was amazing. From the meat to the sauces. Soooo good. One suggestion, I'd cook the fries a little more - since they pour sauce on top before they shower the Furikake on, the fries can be a bit well done. They'll hold the toppings a bit more. Note: my Diet Coke was flat, but I didn't complain cuz I just didn't want to be 'that' person tonight. (I can't stand flat sodas at restaurants tho) The waitress was fine, but didn't go out of her way to greet us or ask us where we were from. At that point we were the only ones in the place (we ate kinda early) so there was plenty of time to chat. We tried to make a bit of conversation but she wasn't taking it. That always puts a damper on a place for me. If you work in the restaurant business, your customers are pretty darn important. And I love friendly people. Maybe next time. We'll most likely return on the next vacay here. Food was worth it. Thank you Kenji Burger!

We came here for an early dinner and wasn't impressed. The burgers were ordinary, somewhat dry, and the sauce was too salty. The coconut shrimp did not taste fresh at all either, and we really wanted to love this place. Our waitress was attentive which was a positive and there's plenty of seating especially if you come in a large party but I just wouldn't go out of my way to come here for the food. It's roomy with plenty of tv's surrounding the dining area to keep you entertained while you wait for your food. Maybe we ordered the wrong items? Maybe we came on an off day, but thankful our kiddos finished their meals.

We came here excited by some of the reviews. The restaurant was relatively quiet, which was not a good sign. We got the lychee lemonade, which, in theory has gin in it. We didn't taste any gin. Then we got the furikake fries. They forgot the furikake, brought it in the side. The edamame were cold, which I understand is not uncommon in Japan. We were just surprised. The seasoning on the edamame was quite tasty. The gyoza were deep fried--compared with the pan fried ones I've had elsewhere, they were not very good. Finally the burgers. They were fine, but nothing to write home about.

Food: 5/5 Perfect place for a quick dinner! Ordered the Hapa burger and furikake fries. Loved the flavors and texture. Service: 5/5 Great service, waitress is very attentive and quick. Ambiance: 5/5 There's half outdoor seating and indoors, we went in the evening so it was nicely lit up.

Fusion burgers! I have not met a burger that I didn't like/love. But the flavor, combined with Asian ingredients, made these burgers special! Hapa Burger that includes pineapple siracha... I didn't know pineapples would complement burgers. So good. So juicy. So greazzy. Love it! We got there at 8pm and it was empty. Folks in this area must go to bed early, or don't wanna drive these dark roads, or both! Since we were the last ones there, they closed up after we left. Customer service was ultra-friendly and I can't say enough about it.

I was extremely curious about Kenji Burger which I kept seeing all over the island, so I decided to give it a go. I was tempted by the Katsu salad, but settled for the traditional Kenji burger instead. It was tasty, and I appreciated that it was made with grass fed beef + talked with arugula (my new favorite greens). However, I did expect the burger to be more flavorful than it was.. Don't get me wrong: I enjoyed eating it, but I guess I expected a flavor explosion of sorts I also thought the prices were reasonable here.

Tried half and half of a couple burgers. Awesome fresh buns used. Good flavors with the Japanese fusion. Have to try the fries with the furikake as it improves them by 1000%.

Went here a few years ago and came back today because of the fond memories! The furikake fries especially I had to order again, and they were just as good as last time. I had the hapa burger- teriyaki sauce, pineapple, and slaw. Burgers are messy but well worth it. The ahi burger and kenji burger were also hits with my family. Nice relaxed atmosphere with a good breeze and fast service. Will be returning!

Taking up the former Kimama Ramen space, it's a wonderful addition. My first time here, a friend and I gorged on ramen, gyoza, karaage mochiko chicken, tempura and soft crab rolls, and popcorn shrimp. The restaurant boasts of their small shareable plates, but they're not small at all! We ended up taking half of the appetizers home. If anything, come for the wonderful service and tonkatsu broth, which is savory and heavenly. I prefer my ramen al dente, and you should try it that way too. The kim chee mashed potatoes that come with the popcorn shrimp is a well-kept secret!

My gyoza was also cold on the inside. The service was honestly the worst. Waited like 20 min before we even got asked what we wanted. The server we had honestly NEVER came around. And the coke we ordered never came! The check out the processes also took forever, she said I'll be right back with the machine to check out And then went off to serve someone else. Definitely not recommending. We only stopped by because it was on the way back to our hotel, and it was opened. I went up to ask our server if she could check us out we had been waiting , she said sorry I was helping them getting their order. I told her it was fine, she apologized and followed by asking what happened. And I let her know the service wasn't the best, I let her know that she never came around to check in, we never got our drink and the food wasn't the best. She followed by saying I'm sorry you feel that way. I said okay, please check us out she checked us out, and then slammed the card down on the table and walked away. In case you missed my not recommending this place, I'll repeat it again. NOT worth it.

The windows were open, so a breeze did come through although it was quite warm in there. They have several tables on the skinny balconies that wrap around the restaurant. Our main server was devoid of any emotion whatsoever - rather strangely robotic. There was another gentleman that was wearing an apron who was either a cook/manager or the owner and he was running around filling in the gaps. Of course, as is the cost of all food in Kauai, the prices were really high for the quantity given. They charge $14 for four potstickers so we did not get those. We opted for the Larb chicken and the Thai basil chicken which we requested spicy, actually very spicy and it came out totally mild. They brought us some garlic chili oil which was nearly rancid. The flavor of the Thai basil chicken was really good though with lots of wok hay. The quantity of the larb chicken was at least twice as much as the Thai basil chicken. It was milder, but it was still tasty. They also serve sushi rolls however I'm not quite at the point of feeling comfortable paying $25 for one roll of sushi. Maybe in a few days after I'm used to It!

The restaurant has gotten worse each time we visited, not sure if it has something to do with the passing of the previous owner. It is still very busy; I think it is one of the few ( if not only) places you can get saimin on the island. The menu is the same and the food came fast, but the taste was not good at all. The saimin is ok, but the won tons were overcooked and undercooked at the same time (yes, really); the side with meat was so soft and broken that the filling was falling out, but the end where they close the won ton was so hard, doughy and raw tasting. The won ton filling was this loose weird ground meat. They are the worst won ton I've ever tasted. The bbq beef sticks which used to be our favorites, were also a fail; they were so overcooked and were so tough that's like chewing on beef jerky. The best thing was the pie, which more like a cake; it still tasted like the old days. The added some new stuff like manapuas, they tasted pretty good, but they are different that the regular ones with slightly chewy chunky pale pork fillings, not the juicy red char siu that you will normally expect. I wish the restaurant will focus on the roots and the main reasons why most customers come here - to eat good saimin and bbq sticks. The new stuff like manapua and lumpia are fine. But please don't forget, the name is Hamura Saimin, and not Hamura lumpia and manapuas. I am really sad to report that after around twenty to thirty years patronizing the establishment, I DON'T think we will be coming back.
