The restaurant is in Kōloa and parking can be challenging. We were lucky and got a spot right in front. Arrived at about 2pm on a Friday and were greeted and seated shortly afterwards. The restaurant had a relaxing vide. The TVs had ocean scenery and surfing, pop music playing in the background. We ordered two of the signature Kenji burgers which had teriyaki seasoning, ponzu aioli, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, tomatoes and arugula served on a Hawaiian sweet bread roll. They use 100% Kauai grass feed beef and provide a generous sized burger. We ordered our burgers cooked medium and medium rare, and the burgers were both cooked correctly. We've been to the other Kenji Burger on the northside, so we knew what to expect when coming here. However what I did not get the last time was this Misoyaki fish sandwich. Black Cod has got to be one of the fattiest, tender, and delicious fish to ever swim the oceans. The sandwich was perfect. As always, the shoestring fries are nice and crispy, and they pair well the beer they have on tap. Service was decent. Nothing extraordinary. But sat down promptly, ordered quick, and food was out fast. No BS. It's probably a benefit to hire younger kids who don't really care, I loved it; no BS. All outdoor/covered seating like you're in a Lanai. Love that style. Really brings a vibe inside. The Giant TV also helps should the games be on. However the speaker was busted. It was cracking on high notes, and was very, very annoying. I asked the server to please turn it down, and she did, and it still cracked. So management, get that fixed. We arrived in Koloa starving and eventually deciding on Kenji's--and I'm so glad we did. We were greeted by a lovely hostess and quickly seated on their beautiful patio. The "wood lanai" vibe and umbrella tables offer the perfect mix of shade and island breeze. The standout discovery was the Kauai beef which is local grass-fed beef. You can truly taste the difference--it's incredibly fresh and light. My younger sister ordered the Kenji-style Loco Moco, and since she couldn't finish it, I happily stepped in. It was phenomenal. My older sister enjoyed the Kenji Burger, though she mentioned it was a bit heavy on the sauce (pro tip: that extra sauce makes for an excellent French fry dip!). I opted for the 3-taco appetizer. While the tacos were a bit on the small side, the oversized side salad helped fill the gap. Hadn't planned on coming here today, but bad weather and hungry stomachs changed our plans. The staff was nice and helpful, and the kitchen was getting the food out fast! My wife got the beef street taco, I got 2 tuna. She liked hers a lot. I loved mine. Mine were basically poke tacos in wonton taco shells. So good! The cucumbers reminded me of the pickles Dukes puts on some of Thierry appetizers. Really tasty. My burger is kind of a bbq burger with cheddar cheese and a slaw. Really good flavor. Enjoyed it. The truffle burger i thought tasted good. My wife didn't like it as much as I did as she thought it had to much sauce. I disagreed- but some reading this may agree with her. Overall really good. Went here for dinner last night and it was great! Friendly and quick casual service. We ordered the loco moco, chicken katsu sandwich, coconut shrimp, and regular fries. It did not dissapoint. My fiance loved his loco moco and my chicken katsu sandwich was huge, it came with 2 katsu cutlets so I definitely had to take some to go. The coconut shrimp was yum and the fries were great too! One suggestion, I'd cook the fries a little more - since they pour sauce on top before they shower the Furikake on, the fries can be a bit well done. They'll hold the toppings a bit more. Note: my Diet Coke was flat, but I didn't complain cuz I just didn't want to be 'that' person tonight. (I can't stand flat sodas at restaurants tho) The waitress was fine, but didn't go out of her way to greet us or ask us where we were from. At that point we were the only ones in the place (we ate kinda early) so there was plenty of time to chat. We tried to make a bit of conversation but she wasn't taking it. We came here for an early dinner and wasn't impressed. The burgers were ordinary, somewhat dry, and the sauce was too salty. The coconut shrimp did not taste fresh at all either, and we really wanted to love this place. Our waitress was attentive which was a positive and there's plenty of seating especially if you come in a large party but I just wouldn't go out of my way to come here for the food. It's roomy with plenty of tv's surrounding the dining area to keep you entertained while you wait for your food. Maybe we ordered the wrong items? We came here excited by some of the reviews. The restaurant was relatively quiet, which was not a good sign. We got the lychee lemonade, which, in theory has gin in it. We didn't taste any gin. Then we got the furikake fries. They forgot the furikake, brought it in the side. The edamame were cold, which I understand is not uncommon in Japan. We were just surprised. The seasoning on the edamame was quite tasty. The gyoza were deep fried--compared with the pan fried ones I've had elsewhere, they were not very good. Finally the burgers. Fusion burgers! I have not met a burger that I didn't like/love. But the flavor, combined with Asian ingredients, made these burgers special! Hapa Burger that includes pineapple siracha... I didn't know pineapples would complement burgers. So good. So juicy. So greazzy. Love it! We got there at 8pm and it was empty. I was extremely curious about Kenji Burger which I kept seeing all over the island, so I decided to give it a go. I was tempted by the Katsu salad, but settled for the traditional Kenji burger instead. It was tasty, and I appreciated that it was made with grass fed beef + talked with arugula (my new favorite greens). However, I did expect the burger to be more flavorful than it was.. FYI: I enjoyed their loco-moco bowl, at least enough to order it 4 separate times. Sadly, this place is capped at 3 stars due to the following: 1. Inconsistency in the way they prepared my food (ex: first day loco-moco did not have onions, second day it's overloaded with onions, third day there's barely any sauce, fourth day there's no onions again). 2. Burgers were given bad reviews from my 8 and 12 yr old (these came from 2 cheeseburger-lovers). In fact, one said, "Their cheese has a sour taste!" 3. Fries were mediocre. We've been visiting Kauai and staying in the Koloa area quite often now for the past several years, so on this trip we couldn't pass it up. We tried the miso butter fish bowl, the old school burger & furikake fries, the kastu sandwich, the chicken katsu plate and another burger which the name slips my mind. Burgers were good along with the furikake fries, would i order it again? A possible yes. Miso butter fish? I would prefer removing then skin and just having the fish. If the skin was fried crispy then cool, yes by all means leave the skin on but it was soggy. I'd pass on that dish. The chicken kastu plate? It was okay BUT ive had much better. We passed by a few different Kenji Burger locations, but planned to stop by this one as part of a mini food tour with a few other nearby spots. I tried the truffle burger and furikake fries. The burger was tender and juicy with just the right amount of truffle flavor. Furikake fries were good too although I'd imagine those would be hard to mess up! Friendly service, and an elevated casual bar-type ambiance. Everything is open to the outdoors but with cover and fans in some areas. Some cute stray cats wandering around the bathroom area too! We ran into this place by accident, we were hungry, tired, and trying to find anywhere to eat after driving around with poor cell reception looking for good spots. Welp, it turned out to be a happy accident. Service was really good, loved the ambiance of this place, and personally, I enjoyed my burger more than I did. My wife had the Lobster roll, had to take a bite, and im usually not the type to eat that kind of stuff, but man it packed a tasty delicious punch. I went with the Truffle burger, i try to keep it simple but decided to step out of my comfort zone and have something new instead of the usual traditional American cheeseburger. And im glad i did. The burger was delicious, very unique flavor profile with the mushrooms and specialty sauce. Would definitely come back here in the future if i visit Hawaii again. The furikake fries were very salty--the large salt flakes overwhelmed the fries and didn't pair well with the sauce, so the fry flavor got lost. Both the loco moco and the burger could use a bit more seasoning in the meat. The sauce was very dominant and tended to mask the flavors of the entrées, making it difficult to taste the beef. I think these would really shine with a lighter hand on the salt for the fries, a bit more seasoning in the patties/ground beef, and either less sauce or a sauce with a milder profile so the meat can come through. read more

They were gearing up for line dancing later in that evening so it was pretty open. The food was good and the servers were friendly. First stop after landing in Kauai...Kenji Burger in Koloa. After many recommendations by friends and fellow Yelpers, we decided to pop in for lunch, and OMG...SO YUMMY! We ordered the soft shell crab burrito and the lobster burrito so we could share and try both. Let me tell you, both were delish. We would 100% order them again. I will say though, the nori was a bit tough, but the overall flavor of the burritos were great. We also had super friendly great service. Everyone that we interacted with were really nice.
