I had dinner at RumFire Poipu Beach and overall had a great experience. I went with the quad entree flight, which came with the lamb shank, short rib, filet mignon, and miso butterfish. The butterfish was hands-down my favorite, with the filet a close second. The other two were fine, just not as memorable. I also tried the goat cheese fondue and would definitely recommend it. For dessert, the affogato was pretty basic, while the baked Kauai was very sweet but still enjoyable. The staff was attentive and friendly, and I appreciated being seated in a booth with an ocean view after requesting it. The live music and lively atmosphere added to the evening, and parking was easy with both valet and self-park options. It is expensive, and I'm not sure the full entree prices would feel worth it, but the duo and quad flights are a fantastic way for two people to try several dishes without going overboard. Beautiful watching the sunset at table 53! We loved how the proceeds of our table went to local charities. The food and service was also great. We've dined at RumFire many times over the years and have always loved both the food and the service, which is why this experience was so disappointing. This was our first night back on the island for our honeymoon after a full day of travel, and we chose RumFire because it's usually a reliable favorite. We both ordered steaks, but unfortunately they were overwhelmed with an excessive amount of sauce. It completely overpowered the meat and made both dishes unenjoyable, especially considering the price point. We let our waitress know, and she was kind and said she would pass the feedback along to the kitchen. The hostess and our waitress were both friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. That said, the steaks themselves were not good, and for the cost, the quality just wasn't there this time. So delicious! We booked for our anniversary and got a booth with ocean view, which was lovely. The meals starts with a fun basket of popcorn arare mix..and they include a keepsake recipe card. Love it! We ordered cocktails, a salad (the one with crab and it was so tasty!) and did the option to split 4 mains which is a great concept to be able to try more items. We got the crab crusted fish, the butterfish, the filet and the lamb. Everything was fantastic but the stars for us were the butterfish and the filet mignon! We closed the meal with coffee and an espresso martini for me, and the baked Kauai which was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend. We can't wait to go back! read more

I have so many complaints that I'm going to start with the good things. The cheesecake was delicious. So was an ahi panzanella appetizer. Complaints. I think the food was way too salty. I got the butterfish signature dish, according to the waiter. Meh. The fish was well prepared, but everything else was so so. The place is LOUD, and not helped with a live guitar player who can't sing on key. The setting is nice because you're on the water. The Rum Fire Poipu Beach has all the trappings of being higher end of the dining range. The service was attentive and very helpful. The facility was nicely appointed and the views were quite good, see my pics. As you can see from my food pics, they excelled at their presentation. We started with their popcorn with furikake seasoning. As you can see it has plenty of salt, crunch and flavor - a perfect match with wine (see in the background). We then moved onto a respectable Ceviche Flight, see pic. This was quite good. We liked the variety and appropriate size for an evening of dining. It was all fresh and unique. We then shared the North Shore Salad. It was also super fresh and bright, see my pic. It was basic and straight-forward. We ended our meal with the Boneless Short Rib, see my pic. While it looked great and the braising jus was savory, it had more fat than meat. This was super disappointing. This restaurant is in side our hotel, the Sheraton, and we were so excited to try it! Our server Kai was awesome and walked us through all the different menu options. He brought out a popcorn mix for us to start with. My husband went with the ribeye and I went with the butterfish. I subbed out the fried rice for the sweet potatoes. The fish was really good and I loved the tobiko on it. My husband had ordered the ribeye medium rare and it came out on the very rare side. We let the server know and he immediately brought out a replacement which we appreciated. We had the olive oil cake for dessert. It was a little denser than I wanted it to be. They are a Pepsi establishment and the Diet Pepsi brew isn't very good. The food on the other hand is great. We enjoyed eating at rum fire. For dinner we had the lamb chops and cacio de Pepe with scallops and shrimp. Both were delicious. Our app was the grapefruit salad. Very good , citrusy and light. I am usually wary of the hotel restaurants, but the Rumfire menu looked interesting, and the experience did not disappoint. The restaurant is designed for every table to have an ocean view, though if you're looking to catch the sunset, you might not have a direct eyeline between the various pillars and spaces. Brussels Sprouts - Decadent, almost a meal in itself with generous amounts of Portuguese sausage. I've been used to delicately crispy sprouts at my Vegas steakhouses - these were slathered in a creamy miso sauce that might not work for everyone, but was a nice change for me. Misoyaki Butterfish - described as the restaurant specialty, it was absolutely delicious and I cleaned my plate, which I rarely do. After enjoying the hefty servings at the fish markets during the day, there is an exchange on portion size with fine dining at night, but the presentation was excellent. Ribeye - Partner had the ribeye and did not really love it. Just not the best cut, couldn't get through it. Cocktails - find the head bartender, Noel, who created many of the specialty cocktails and is simply a master mixologist. I thought his Kauai Old Fashioned was amazing, until he introduced me to the Barrel Aged Old Fashioned, which was out of this world. Mai Tai, Blue Hawaiian, Watermelon Martini, and Last Chance all shined for us as well (tried over several nights). It's easy to get used to the pleasant alohas that greet Hawaii vacationers, yet Rumfire felt above and beyond in the way that the entire staff treated us like we were longtime customers, brightening up in recognition and checking in on how our vacation was going when we returned for drinks a couple nights later. read more

The food was delicious. The reason for the 3 star rating was the service. Our waiter was very personable but wasn't very good at taking orders and bringing the items to us. He had to ask me twice what drink I ordered. Then my husband added a lobster tail to his entree but our waiter forgot to order it so it didn't come until he was done with his meal, and rather than admit his mistake and move on, he tried to play it off. He also forgot my second drink, which I didn't bother reminding him about. I don't know if the restaurant doesn't want servers to write anything down, but it's not very impressive when they have a bad memory. read more

We ended our honeymoon on Kauai with dinner at RumFire, and it was the perfect way to close out our trip. We booked a same-day reservation for 7:30. When we arrived, the hostess congratulated us right away and seated us promptly. Even though it wasn't an ocean view table, we were very happy with what we got. The booth was next to a large window overlooking the fire features, and it felt private and comfortable. Our server, James, was outstanding. He was friendly, professional, and had a great attitude. He brought us a small popcorn and pretzel snack as soon as we sat down, which was a nice touch. He checked in on us just enough without hovering and clearly knew what he was doing. We started with the Brussels sprouts, which were excellent. I've had Brussels sprouts many times over the years, and these were some of the best I've ever eaten. I ordered the lamb, which was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. My wife had the filet, which came out exactly as she requested. She also ordered asparagus on the side. We both enjoyed a glass of Dao Cabernet, which paired well with our meals. For dessert, we shared a cheesecake and a baked Kauai. Both were outstanding and a great way to end the evening. There are only two small things that could make the experience even better. When we made the reservation, they asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. Most of the other restaurants we visited during the trip offered a small gesture, like a drink or a dessert, but this one did not. It's not a big deal, but it would help to set expectations up front. The other thing is that they should have bussers. James was handling everything on his own, and while he was excellent, some extra support would have made the service feel even more polished. Overall, we had a wonderful night. The food was delicious, the setting was beautiful, and the service from James was exceptional. If you visit, I recommend asking for him. My wife and I spent our last night at the Sheraton at RumFire for dinner. The dinner left us feeling extremely disappointed. While the views are nice, the service, quality, and experience lacked. We both ordered steak the same way (medium) and one came out completely different (rare). Our waiter was nowhere to be found for 15-20 minutes resulting in us having to pull a random staff member to send the food back. Even after the other staff member then returned with my meal, our waiter had still not been over to check up on us at all. When he finally touched base with us, he apologized half heartedly about the food (but not the poor service). From start to finish the service was slow and the quality of the food we received did not match the price whatsoever. Would recommend finding another restaurant to spend your money, we would have been better off at Lava next door for 1/4 the price. read more

The flatbread tasted like a frozen pizza I enjoyed as a kid. The steak and frites was a miss all together. The meat was way over cooked md the fries could have had less truffle on them. The poke bowl was a complete miss. No taste. The rice was hot the ahi was cold and there was no ginger, wasabi, or edamame etc. the prices are high for what you receive. Highly recommend RumFire at sunset! Views are absolutely breathtaking. Floor to ceiling windows and watch the waves roll in. We had excellent service. Staff was incredibly friendly and really seemed to enjoy working there. The executive chef was out on the floor frequently and he personally delivered my meal (the duck breast special of the night) and later checked in on us. Husband had the burger, which he loved. We liked this restaurant so much we ate here twice on our last trip to Kauai. The fine dining establishment is located ocean front inside the Sheraton Kauai Hotel at Poipu. It is an incredible place to enjoy a meal and take in the view. My hubby and I ordered two different fish entrees (on both occasions). And everything we had was delicious. They are known for their Misoyaku Butterfish dish which is prepared with a rice wine chili glaze and served with their version of vegetable fried rice and veggies. We liked this dish so much we ordered it on our second visit. We also had the seared ahi over crispy rice which was a special that night. The Ahi was incredibly fresh and tasty. My only complaint was that the rice was a bit denser than I like. We also had a local fish (cant recall the name). It was prepared with a crab crust in a lemon Chardonnay cream sauce and served with asparagus and fried rice. This fish dish was just as good as the butterfish in my opinion. As a starter we had the grapefruit salad (which was more of an heirloom tomato salad) that was light and the perfect start to our meal. Most disappointing meal of the week. We were staying at the Sheraton so decided to try RumFire as it is on site and the reviews were not too bad. They start you out with stale popcorn, then had the lump crab salad which was okay. I ordered the Cacio e Pepe pasta with scallops and prawns, which included decent sized seafood but the pasta was from a box and was NOT Cacio d Pepe! It was a greasy mess that was over salted and not flavored well at all, and was $60. Ended up throwing most of it away. Hubs had the fresh catch, also not good and very expensive for what you got. The only redeeming quality of this place were the drinks and the service -- our server was absolutely lovely and took great care of us, and our drinks were well-made and very enjoyable. Overrated and overpriced. We only came here because we had received a 20% off coupon from Kipu Ranch Tours when we did an excursion with them earlier in the week. I wish they hadn't given us the coupon so we would have never been tempted to come here. Bobby was our server and he was really great. Unfortunately, our entrees weren't as up to par. We ordered the wagyu & scallop burger, which was WAY oversalted. We literally could not taste anything else except salt. Waste of good wagyu beef and scallops. Their crab crusted fresh fish was perfectly crunchy but a bit too salty for my taste. Thankfully, my boyfriend didn't seem to mind. The mashed sweet potatoes tasted fine but smelled sort of strange (not gone bad, but just a bizarre smell). We should have stopped there but decided to order the Baked Kauai :'( You can tell this is an item they freeze beforehand and only bust out when it's ordered. The entire thing was way too sweet but the meringue in particular was so sugary that we could literally hear the sugar granules crunch in our mouths.
