Sat at the bar for a late night bite and really really enjoyed my time there. First off the sushi was astoundingly fresh (however that's expected since it's Hawaii) and really really good. Also surprisingly the dessert was delicious. The bartenders were really nice and attentive but also not weirdly hovering around. While I didn't get to see much of the restaurant since I was seated at the bar, from what I could see it's a beautifully decorated restaurant. I recommend anyone staying at this resort visit Stevenson's library at least once.

Go ahead.... Call me a Dork. Say I'm a Geek. Tell me, that I am a Nerd. Because going forward, when in Kauai, you will 100% find me at my New. Favorite. Place.... The Stevenson's Library!!! Yeah, I said it: A Library. I mean, It feels like Library. It looks like a Library. And on top of that... They've got books lining the shelves.... Theres a Game Library wood Chessboard... And a wooden ship in a glass case.... It feels very Library-ish to me! The only thing I couldn't see... A Librarian! But, that's ok... This Library doesn't need no stinkin' Librarian!! Cause this Library, The Stevenson's Library, located in the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort in Poipu has got...... SUSHI!!!! And damn, do they know how to present it! Yes, for our 11 year Wedding Anniversary, we booked our Anniversary dinner at the Stevenson's Library and it was pure Gold. I, was dressed in my finest Aloha shirt. My wife, had on a dress that I KNOW no Library has witnessed before (and damn did she look Good in it). Shortly after arriving for our reservation time, we were promptly seated at a table front and center with a view of the entire room. We were warmly greeted, had our glasses filled with water and given time to look over the menu. Of course, we started the night off with a bottle of wine which was placed table side in an iced wine bucket. To spice things up... No we didn't go looking for a copy of 50 Shades of Grey or Haunting Adeline in the Libraries collection... But we did order a plate of Shishito Peppers and those baddies were all the Heat we needed in that moment. From there, some of those most beautifully plated sushi rolls I have ever seen. The color, the detail, the presentation... The smile on my face was caused by pure Umami Overload. Of course, you know we continued on and got our Nigiri on! A little Kanpachi (Amberjack)... A little Sake (New Zealand King Salmon)... And let me tell you.... The fish was like butter. Of course, we were there celebrating our Anniversary, so a beautiful Mango Panna Cotta was brought out complimentary of their Pastry Chef and let me tell you... It was perfectly, perfect. Often, Libraries are all about feeding your brain and filling your imagination with wonder... But the Stevenson Library is all about feeding your stomach and filling your heart with joy! Everything about this place checked off all the right boxes and I hope your experience is as good as ours. Enjoy!!

While staying at the Grand Hyatt, we decided to celebrate a birthday with sushi at Stevenson's Library. From the outside the restaurant looks like a stuffy old library. But inside the ceiling doors let in abundant natural light. We were seated on the balcony with sweeping resort and ocean views. Absolutely stunning. As a group of five, we ordered a bunch of rolls and some nigiri. The menu clearly labels gluten free which made it really easy for me to decide what to order. I personally had the Rainbow and a modified River roll. They were delicious with the fish very fresh tasting. They even brought GF soy sauce. We split multiple desserts, two of which were gluten free. The mango panna cotta was so amazing! The server was super kind and brought one out with a birthday candle. Overall service was great! I was really impressed with how seamless it all felt. What a fantastic experience! It was more expensive than what I would normally spend, but I say worth it.

Super friendly service. Food was good. Not best on the island. We had visited this restaurant before so it was on our list to revisit this trip. It was tasty but not knock it out of the park like our last time. Beautiful view overlooking the property and the beach off in the distance.

    Sushi Pizza, yes please!

We didn't have a reservation but were able to sit at the bar which is open seating. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and a treat for anyone who loves or enjoys books. The drinks menu looks like a book and the cocktails are named after favorite stories. My favorite dishes were the sushi pizza which was absolutely amazing and the dynamite lobster rolls. We also had sushi that was delicious and fresh. Staff was great, overall great experience and will be coming back before we leave.

This bar has the location and appearance to make it upscale, but sadly it doesn't capitalize on this and you're left with an almost, dive bar experience. The attire is a wide spectrum, the food items are mediocre at best, the drinks are okay, and the overall vibe felt like a sports bar. I enjoyed my stay at the Grand Hyatt and I'd go back, but it'd really be great if they had a better bar to offer to its patrons.

Thought this spot would be a bit overrated given it's in a chain hotel, but the sushi was truly incredible. The specialty salmon roll may have been one of the best I've ever had, and the hamachi and ono were also quite exceptional! The drinks weren't the best and I asked for an old fashioned and they definitely gave me whiskey on the rocks but would come back for the fish. Ambiance was okay, a bit more corporate but if you get tucked into one of the corners it could be cool. Bar seating honestly might be the best! And the other bar at the hotel does live music so it was great to stop by there after for the vibes.

The best place to get maki and sushi. I had the Rainbow roll which has a bit of everything. I suggest sharing because there are 7-8 pieces. We also had the sushi pizza on naan bread which was really good. The staff was excellent

The name and ambiance should've made me turn around n go somewhere else but I really wanted to try the Smoker n the Rye. I'm a huge sucker for a smoky Old Fashioned. It also doesn't help that the waitresses were wearing Chinese dresses in a Japanese sushi restaurant. Please fix this asap. Sushi was ok at best. I've had alot better. The Smoker n the Rye was a huge disappointment. I swapped it for a regular Old Fashioned and they failed at that too. Had to send it back. Ruined bday dinner. So sad. The only saving grace was the lobster dynamite and our waitress. But that's not enough to come back.

We've been to Stevenson's Library at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai many times, probably our 20th visit, and it never disappoints. This time we started with the takosu sunomono which was okay, nothing special, and the edamame with Hawaiian chili which was awesome, perfect level of salt and just the right kick without needing any soy sauce. The miso soup was incredible, real miso broth with just the right amount of tofu, seaweed, and kombu. The star of the night was the Stevenson's Lobster Dynamite. The presentation caught us off guard, it was beautiful and packed with food, definitely worth the price. The mix of scallops, crab, dynamite sauce, and eel sauce had that perfect balance of savory, sweet, and salty, so good we immediately ordered a second one. The black cod was tasty but not something I would rush to get again compared to the dynamite. For rolls we had tekka, kappa, spicy tuna, kai, kazan, and kawa. All were fresh and generously filled, but the kazan (volcano roll) was the clear favorite and we ended up ordering three of those. Great kick from the jalapeno and spicy tuna, balanced perfectly by the dynamite sauce. We finished with otoro and uni sashimi. The otoro was buttery and melted in my mouth, and the uni had that perfect ocean flavor and richness. Drinks were a mix. The Sunburst and Strawberry Twist mocktails tasted like watered down soda with a splash of syrup and I would not recommend them, but the Hawaiian Banana Split mocktail was decadent, thick, and exactly what you would hope for. Service overall was good. The hostess and bar staff were warm and friendly, though our main server seemed a bit rushed or maybe just busy with a big party. Still, everything came out timely and the vibe stayed welcoming. Every trip to Kauai we make sure to eat here and this visit reminded me why. Great sushi, huge rolls, and that Lobster Dynamite alone makes it a must every time.

Yum! It is so pretty inside and the sushi is authentic and delicious. We had great cocktails, the edamame were yummy and I loved what they had for the kids. My chirashi was fresh fresh fresh. Yum!

Great for hotel sushi After a long day of hiking, we stopped here for some sushi. It was quite excellent - fish was fresh and each roll was a carefully crafted medley of textures. It is a bit pricey, but no surprises here

Went here based on a recommendation from someone we met at the pool at our condo. We were told we needed a reservation, but luckily with just two of us we were able to get right in. This place was pretty cool inside, very cozy looking. Light was super dim, even for our young eyes ha. We ordered a few cocktails that had a good pour, and the lobster dynamite appetizer per recommendation of our pool friend. We followed that up with a few different sushi rolls, and ended up ordering one more after because they weren't super big. Our dessert was really good, but I think I'd try something different the next time. Overall, great experience and great service.

Of course, as is the cost of all food in Kauai, the prices were really high for the quantity given. They charge $14 for four potstickers so we did not get those. We opted for the Larb chicken and the Thai basil chicken which we requested spicy, actually very spicy and it came out totally mild. They brought us some garlic chili oil which was nearly rancid. The flavor of the Thai basil chicken was really good though with lots of wok hay. The quantity of the larb chicken was at least twice as much as the Thai basil chicken. It was milder, but it was still tasty. They also serve sushi rolls however I'm not quite at the point of feeling comfortable paying $25 for one roll of sushi. The "wood lanai" vibe and umbrella tables offer the perfect mix of shade and island breeze. The standout discovery was the Kauai beef which is local grass-fed beef. You can truly taste the difference--it's incredibly fresh and light. My younger sister ordered the Kenji-style Loco Moco, and since she couldn't finish it, I happily stepped in. It was phenomenal. My older sister enjoyed the Kenji Burger, though she mentioned it was a bit heavy on the sauce (pro tip: that extra sauce makes for an excellent French fry dip!). I opted for the 3-taco appetizer. While the tacos were a bit on the small side, the oversized side salad helped fill the gap. All outdoor/covered seating like you're in a Lanai. Love that style. Really brings a vibe inside. The Giant TV also helps should the games be on. However the speaker was busted. The chicken had a nice flavor and was nice and hot when it was served. The food was good, but not worth waiting over an hour in my opinion. You can make your own judgments, depending on how much time you have. We stopped by Leong's in Coconut Marketplace on a Sunday, which may have had something to do with the service. Plus, Kauai is a very small island and I was not expecting big city service speeds. However, it did take over an hour for us to get our food. That seems long, even for a small restaurant on a small island. We got to the restaurant and had to wait about 10 minutes for a table; not an issue. Once we got seated, we got water and coffee very quickly; not an issue. But when a large table (that was seated since we got to the restaurant) got their food after we had been waiting for 30 minutes, we started to get a little worried. The whole restaurant experience lasted about an hour and a half, and only about 20 minutes of that was eating. There were only two human waitstaff (and one robot which seemed kind of cool but mostly like an inconvenience to the workers), so I can understand somewhat. We also may have felt more pressured because we had to be somewhere after lunch.
