In an unassuming corner of the local grocery store, you will find some of the best poke on the island. They have more than 6 flavors to choose from of fresh, the ultimate bowl of two scoops is a matchmaker's desire. The poke bowl comes complete with two scoops of rice with furikake and a side of seaweed that mixes in perfectly. They were efficient with service as well.

The shack is located inside the Kukuiula Market.

We absolutely enjoyed this hidden gem! The food was refreshing and tasty. Service was quick and staff is friendly. I thought we'd have to walk back to our hotel to sit down and eat, but there were tables in the back.

Summer trip to Kauai for me was all about poke. And after trying as many as I could in Kauai, this was the one I ended up recommending to family members who were headed to Kauai 2 months later (they loved it and ate it multiple times and also agreed). There was slightly better poke fish quality had on Kauai, but this place easily became my choice for the BEST OVERALL "POKE BOWL" since it scored high on all aspects of an enjoyable bowl. First of all, Google map doesn't show Poipu Poke Shack if you search for it, not sure why. So I had the Kukuiula Market marked on my map, since this is a counter located inside that market. Small sleepy market, but had easy parking and Poipu Poke was the first thing on the left upon entering. * Spicy ahi poke bowl was super enjoyable. - Spicy ahi poke = double scoop of great poke! fresh not frozen ahi and spicy mayo was excellent (my favorite flavor for poke since can't beat mayo in anything). good cuts of ahi were very smooth and flavorful, maybe had only 1 or 2 bite that required some chewing but nothing tough. - Rice = they used proper sushi rice which was absolutely delicious. sushi rice to me is a MUST for an enjoyable poke bowl! Furikake sprinkled on top only added to the enjoyment. - Seaweed salad = comes in the bowl and helps balance out the bowl while cleansing palate between bites. - Priced reasonable for the bowl quality and enjoyment. Overall it hit all the marks to make it the best overall poke bowl I've had. * Spicy scallop was good with balanced flavor and good to chew as an accompaniment to have on the side. For the poke bowl they ask if want the unagi/eel sauce. I said yes, since who doesn't like more flavor? Wife liked the added sauce. But after eating, my conclusion was maybe this poke bowl doesn't even need the added sauce. The poke/sushi rice are already so flavorful, that I think the added sauce only distracts from the smooth clean flavors of the bowl. So my personal choice would be to decline the eel sauce, since it's not needed on this great poke bowl. Actually went back the next day again, but for the sake of research, tried the poke nacho version. The wonton nacho was crunchy and fun, but just not as satisfying as sushi rice. I would stick with the poke bowl for that great sushi rice and seaweed salad that makes the bowl so enjoyable to dig into. It can be tight to plan for dinner, so plan ahead. They said open 11am~6pm. Closed Saturday. Since it's take out only, also should decide where you want to eat it. First day, took it to Poipu Beach, there was a park area on the east side that had plenty of tables. Second day, took it to the Spouting Horn, which had table right by the spouting horn so could enjoy watching water blowing off while enjoying a meal. Easier parking and minimal walking as well.

Garlic ahi and spicy salmon (3/10 spicy)

Located inside the Kukui'ula Market, this poke shack offers some of the freshest poke I've ever tried. I got a poke bowl, which comes with 2 scopes of poke, seaweed salad and rice. I chose spicy salmon, 3/10 spicy, 8/10 freshness, and garlic ahi 7/10. People usually get it to-go, but if you want to eat there, grab a seat at the back of the market. Tip: Come early to get the poke you want. Some ran out by lunch time

The food was excellent and the poke was fresh. Excellent texture. It was all made to order and didn't take long. Friendly people working. It was a bit expensive though. No place to sit so take it and go.

My first time having poke, I was totally spoiled by Poipu Poke Shack! Tucked in a local convenience store, you seriously cannot miss this place if you're in Kauai! We stopped in on a Sunday late afternoon. My husband and I shared the poke bowl with spicy ahi and spicy scallops. It was SO YUMMY. I really wanted to get another bowl, but we were both full. Really a great value for the high-quality product you're getting. The employees were friendly and the food prep area was very clean (don't let the store it's in deter you because it's not super clean lol). There isn't any seating, but there are a few benches outside and some picnic tables to the side of the strip plaza. 100% we will be back for you, Poipu Poke Shack!

Woweee hidden gem inside Kukuiula market, we would've passed by this spot had we not ran into the awesome local lady at Riptides while munching on shaved ice. Fresh, fresh, fresh (like wouldn't be surprised if they were off the boat from that morning) tuna and salmon, 2 scoops of rice sprinkled with seaweed strips and voila you have the most Incredible poke bowl. This portion ringing in at $20 was a good size spilt between two. Going back again today if I can convince my driver- haha.

It took a minute to find them as yelp and maps say food cart, but it's really in the market right next to Da Crack Mexican food. Enter the store and turn left as its on the left wall/corner. That said- amazing Poke! The spicy Ahi was my favorite. As good as I have had anywhere. I also had the shoyu Ahi. It was really good too, but the spicy was. The seaweed salad- or whatever it was- was a great compliment too. Loved it. Next time in Kauai we will be back for sure! If you're staying in poipu, I would be here multiple times!

Best poke!!! We came here twice in three days because we wanted it before we left to the mainland! Their scallop poke was my favorite of all time!

Always great food, fresh fish and fresh ingredients, fast and friendly service, nice little old school ambiance in an old marketplace in poipu.

Perfect poke. Truly. Very fast, friendly service. Tucked in a small grocery store, so take it to go. Highly recommend. You won't be disappointed!

Small counter in a market with my favorite poke on the island. Really fresh and delicious. Appreciated they gave me a taste of the Wahoo before I chose, as well.

This ended up being one of if not the best meal we had all week in Kauai and it's right around the corner from where we are staying at the Sheraton Kauai Resort! We only managed to get a photo of one of our four meals because we hounded the food so quickly, but you can imagine how good the rest of our food was when the pineapple combination rice looked like this. PS: a quick note for the management - get that sign at the bottom of the stairs changed because you don't need hibachi to get people in the door anyway!

The windows were open, so a breeze did come through although it was quite warm in there. They have several tables on the skinny balconies that wrap around the restaurant. Our main server was devoid of any emotion whatsoever - rather strangely robotic. There was another gentleman that was wearing an apron who was either a cook/manager or the owner and he was running around filling in the gaps. Of course, as is the cost of all food in Kauai, the prices were really high for the quantity given. They charge $14 for four potstickers so we did not get those. We opted for the Larb chicken and the Thai basil chicken which we requested spicy, actually very spicy and it came out totally mild. They brought us some garlic chili oil which was nearly rancid. The flavor of the Thai basil chicken was really good though with lots of wok hay. The quantity of the larb chicken was at least twice as much as the Thai basil chicken. It was milder, but it was still tasty. They also serve sushi rolls however I'm not quite at the point of feeling comfortable paying $25 for one roll of sushi. Maybe in a few days after I'm used to It!

The "wood lanai" vibe and umbrella tables offer the perfect mix of shade and island breeze. The standout discovery was the Kauai beef which is local grass-fed beef. You can truly taste the difference--it's incredibly fresh and light. My younger sister ordered the Kenji-style Loco Moco, and since she couldn't finish it, I happily stepped in. It was phenomenal. My older sister enjoyed the Kenji Burger, though she mentioned it was a bit heavy on the sauce (pro tip: that extra sauce makes for an excellent French fry dip!). I opted for the 3-taco appetizer. While the tacos were a bit on the small side, the oversized side salad helped fill the gap. Between the great atmosphere, friendly service, and quality local ingredients, this was the perfect first meal on Kauai.

Black Cod has got to be one of the fattiest, tender, and delicious fish to ever swim the oceans. The sandwich was perfect. As always, the shoestring fries are nice and crispy, and they pair well the beer they have on tap. Service was decent. Nothing extraordinary. But sat down promptly, ordered quick, and food was out fast. No BS. It's probably a benefit to hire younger kids who don't really care, I loved it; no BS. All outdoor/covered seating like you're in a Lanai. Love that style. Really brings a vibe inside. The Giant TV also helps should the games be on. However the speaker was busted. It was cracking on high notes, and was very, very annoying. I asked the server to please turn it down, and she did, and it still cracked. So management, get that fixed. Will most likely be back, as its the solo burger joint in the area, and it does NOT let you down!

The chicken had a nice flavor and was nice and hot when it was served. The food was good, but not worth waiting over an hour in my opinion. You can make your own judgments, depending on how much time you have. We stopped by Leong's in Coconut Marketplace on a Sunday, which may have had something to do with the service. Plus, Kauai is a very small island and I was not expecting big city service speeds. However, it did take over an hour for us to get our food. That seems long, even for a small restaurant on a small island. We got to the restaurant and had to wait about 10 minutes for a table; not an issue. Once we got seated, we got water and coffee very quickly; not an issue. But when a large table (that was seated since we got to the restaurant) got their food after we had been waiting for 30 minutes, we started to get a little worried. The whole restaurant experience lasted about an hour and a half, and only about 20 minutes of that was eating. There were only two human waitstaff (and one robot which seemed kind of cool but mostly like an inconvenience to the workers), so I can understand somewhat. We also may have felt more pressured because we had to be somewhere after lunch.

The front desk staff guided me to the elevator. This trip was for my birthday. In every reservation when asked about a special occasion, I put birthday. Kudos to the staff for its kindness. The restaurant is open air and very comfortable. It has a rustic feel. We were seated by the window on a cool, rainy night but were perfectly dry the whole evening. On top of that, our server was very helpful in guiding us to order the right amount of food. He brought us a serving of edamame which is always on the house. The shrimp & pork potstickers were very good. I had the ramen which was tasty, filling and a great choice. Our server was terrific to put the spicy oil on the side which made it easier for me to eat. My husband had the butterfish which is the best I have ever tasted. It is a signature dish and always a pleaser. The only real downside is the limited menu. We were told that because of a staff shortage, it wasn't the typical menu. This was disappointing. Well, we ate at Red Salt back to back nights and twice for breakfast so that should tell you something. Our first dining experience was an in restaurant dinner and I almost didn't give 5 stars is because the dining room itself could use a nice interior designer to help match the ambiance to the high quality food and service. The server was terrific and accommodating. I don't want to overlook the starters that set our expectations- delicious delicate pear salad and the spicy hamachi crudo with just the right amount of kick! And even though we were stuffed, we couldn't pass the dessert - flourless chocolate cake and affogato! Both chef's . we loved that meal so much we ordered a condensed version of it for room servide the next night. As for breakfast, I think what we liked was that they did a great job on the classics. My husband had a traditional eggs and bacon with potatoes and I had the waffles and both were a solid 8-9. Again great service. I would say the price for breakfast is pretty spot on for the ambiance, food quality and service. I feel that the dinner entrees which while excellent, feels a bit steep $50-70 for the ambiance but as you can tell by our back to back meals, we still went back for more because none of the other restaurants we ate at on the island came close to the quality.
