They were very empathetic and advised they would see us when we got there! Once arrived we were seated at a nice intimate booth w/sunset views. Popcorn w/furikake crackers brought to table. Good start while deciding on our dinner choices. We split the crab & avocado salad -( no extra charge). Had the crab crusted fish, my husband had the butterfish. Both dishes were excellent! For dessert they brought a nice birthday treat for hubby- Citrus cake, coconut ice cream w/toasted ube meringue- its like a Hawaiian version of a baked Alaska. Corkage- $30 to note. Overrated and overpriced. We only came here because we had received a 20% off coupon from Kipu Ranch Tours when we did an excursion with them earlier in the week. I wish they hadn't given us the coupon so we would have never been tempted to come here. Bobby was our server and he was really great. He memorized our order perfectly, with all of our extra requests, without even writing it down! The ambiance was fine, if a bit loud. There was live music which caused the patrons to have to speak at louder than normal volumes. The food was a mixed bag, leaning on the worse side of things. To start off, we got the goat cheese fondue - this was very rich and delectable. I really loved the pickled papaya and my boyfriend enjoyed the ginger crisps. Unfortunately, our entrees weren't as up to par. We ordered the wagyu & scallop burger, which was WAY oversalted. We literally could not taste anything else except salt. Waste of good wagyu beef and scallops. Their crab crusted fresh fish was perfectly crunchy but a bit too salty for my taste. Thankfully, my boyfriend didn't seem to mind. The mashed sweet potatoes tasted fine but smelled sort of strange (not gone bad, but just a bizarre smell). We should have stopped there but decided to order the Baked Kauai :'( You can tell this is an item they freeze beforehand and only bust out when it's ordered. The entire thing was way too sweet but the meringue in particular was so sugary that we could literally hear the sugar granules crunch in our mouths. I was staying at the Sheraton so decided to give RumFire a try. I'm glad I tried it, but I'm not sure I'd go again. The restaurant has nice ambiance and great views, however the food was just ok. Things tried: - complimentary popcorn: it was delicious and the best thing I ate all night. - dou plate: I got the miso yaki butter fish and the crab crusted catch of the day. I'm not sure what it was, but the fish didn't taste fresh.. like it has been frozen too long. The dish had potential, just didn't hit the mark. - Baked Kauai: I wanted to try something different so gave it a try. It is a lot of dessert and can be a bit overwhelming. This restaurant was at the hotel we were staying at so we made reservations for dinner. It was quite empty when we got there so we were able to sit right by the water. While the ambiance is amazing and beautiful, some of the food is lacking. I really enjoyed the crusted wasabi fish with asparagus. My husband was not a fan of the cuts of meat he received. The staff was very attentive, very brave as they asked us why we were not happy. The new chef has to stick to this menu for now, but he assured us he has many ideas and changes on the horizon. The waiter even gave us his favorite beach and restaurant recommendations across the island. He actually took the time to write them down for us..and there were several in each category. Great service. The food was quite good. Had the "half and half". Half entree of the Butterfish and half entree of the Short Ribs. Both were excellent. Fish was fresh and well prepared. Short Ribs were tender, juicy and flavorful. Cocktails were above average, esp the Smoked Rum-Hattan. Would go back and would recommend. A group dinner for 25 went flawlessly from start to finish. James (and I think Billy) took great care of our group juggling drink orders and getting everyone situated as they arrived. Tables were beautifully set in a small adjacent private dining room, with beautiful centerpieces running the length of the table. The food was a set menu, and we enjoyed am appetizer of seared ahi on crispy rice. Salad course was chilled farro salad with crab, unusual but good. Entree was a perfectly cooked filet mignon with shrimp and a scallion polenta and sake sauce. The steak was medium rare and my favorite part of this dish. Dessert was also a home run with a dense chocolate ganache with creamy coconut ice cream. Great job. This beachside gem is located in the Sheraton Kauai Resort with the most beautiful setting right along the water. With large bay windows, the view is spectacular. On to the food... Once seated, our server bought us the yummiest popcorn to munch on while looking over the menu. I'm telling you, I couldn't stop eating it...lol! We started off with cocktails (an old fashioned for my husband, and the lychee martini for me). Both so yummy we had another round. Started with the North Shore salad (romaine lettuce with crab and a wasabi dressing). I wasn't a big fan of the dressing, but my husband loved it. Our dinners though, OMG...DELICIOUS! My misoyaki butter was so good that I probably could have eaten another piece. It came with fried rice and sautéed baby bokchoy. My husband loved his steak and lobster. I'm not sure what it came with, but he really enjoyed it. And then of course, we shared the cheesecake dessert. The cheesecake was perfectly sweet and delicious. Yes, our dinner was amazing, but you know what made it even better? Our server. He was so great. Super nice, gave us great suggestions, and come to find out that he's from a city very local to us at home. We had lots to chat about. Beautiful location for fine dining on that special occasion. Came by for Thanksgiving dinner. Restaurant is beachfront and part of the Sheraton hotel we were staying at. Had a really nice meal. Sat at the bar and ordered the filet mignon. It was a high quality meat and cooked to perfection. Cooked in red wine and served on top of mushrooms and mashed potatoes. Wife had the Misoyaki Butterfish served on rice. It was a sweeter dish and served on rice. It had a sauce on top that would have been better on the side (they poured too much on it). The gave us some free popcorn as an appetizer that had some Chinese crackers mixed inside. It was different but good! Also had the fried brussel sprouts. They were good and had macadamia nuts in them but again too much sauce. I did enjoy the pieces of Portuguese sausage mixed in. Also had the side of asparagus and LOVED that. They were cooked and seasoned perfectly and complemented the meal. Only disappointment was the dessert. Ordered the Affogato - (Lappert's Coconut Ice Cream, Espresso, Shaved Macadamia Nuts and Chocolate). It was just a TINY SCOOP of ice cream. We asked for the espresso on the side and am glad we did. The shot of espresso was the same size as the ice cream and would have turned it into soup! I had the filet that came served on top of a tiny portion of mashed potatoes. The filet was good but I've had better for way less. First, let me say there could be no more beautiful setting! Especially at sunset. (see photo) The interior decor is gorgeous and the night we were there, a supremely talented singer/guitarist was performing. Our server was terrific--personable, helpful, honest and there just when we needed her. Finally, the food! We ate there three times over 6 days, if that's any indication, and each time the food was better than the time before. Standouts include the sumptuous goat cheese fondue appetizer ( which my vegan partner had as an entrée once it was so good), the sesame-crusted ahi and the butterfish. The butterfish was hands-down the best tasting and best prepared piece of fish I've ever had in my life. RumFire is not cheap, but neither is it what I would call excessive. Dinner for two over three visits with tip ranged from $78 to $210, depending on alcohol. If you have a chance, go and have a memorable night. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a fantastic dinner at RumFire on our last night at the Sheraton Kauai Resort. The food was great and our server, Bobby, was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I really like their "duo" and "quad" options. Sometimes it's hard to decide what to order so it was nice to be able to get half portions of two different dishes. I chose the Misoyaki Butterfish and Crab Crusted Fresh Catch as my entrees and they were both delicious! My husband ordered the filet mignon. It too was perfectly prepared and delicious. They were tasty however, they failed to trim the stems of the sprouts and left and tough stalk of the Brussel sprouts which we had to spit out because it's not edible. The butterfish was the best entree at our table. The lamb chop was overcooked, but it had a really delicious sauce on it. I had the kanpachi hawaiian fish dish. It was good and served piping hot. Make sure you order the side of scallops, our server mentioned that the specific appetizer is served with a very overpowering sauce.
