Unmatched fish tacos. Fish flavored well and cooked to perfection. Super friendly owner. First of many trips back
The best thing was the Lilikoi cheesecake. I've never had this type before where the Lilikoi is mixed with the cheese instead of a drizzle. It was definitely a 5/5. My burrito was 3/5. It was rather small and didn't taste that great. The Wagyu salad was pretty good 4/5. This was our first meal in Kauai since it was walking distance from our hotel at Kauai Shores Hotel.
Stopped by around noon and got a plate of fried ono tacos. It's quick service style, so you find your table after you order. The employees were super nice and the food came out quickly. The food was simple and very filling.
A great introduction to Hawaiian bbq! We all got different plates and each one was super tasty. Miles better than fast food places like L&L; the food tasted so fresh. Wish I could come here for every day I'm here in Kauai but we gotta give other places a chance too lol
So glad I found this place! Food was delicious and if we had more time in Kauai I would re-visit for a decent meal. My chicken was tender and flavorful. Plus the salad and dressing were oh so tasty! Still craving the salad dressing on every salad I eat.
A little restaurant in a strip mall by some shops. Sleeping is the key word here because although it is unassuming, it was arguably the best meal we had on Kauai! The young guy that took care of us at the counter was so friendly, welcoming and cool. He realized we were from out of town and took extra time talking through the menu. We had delicious food, and opted to dine in at a table inside the restaurant. We had a fried Hawaiian ono (wahoo) burrito with black beans and rice, ahi tuna poke with coconut rice, and a grilled mahi mahi plate. Everything was so fresh and tasty. No wonder there was a line and all tables were full! Give it a shot!
This spot is is very busy, so come before the rush if you can. It's walking distance from hotels and the beach with lots of parking. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Food is made to order, so though it takes a while, it comes out fresh and hot (just how I like it). They have water cups you can self serve. All the food was pretty good. My favorite thing was the lillikoi Cheesecake. It was full of lillikoi flavor infused in instead of drizzled on top like other places. The salad with the Wagyu Plate was also a hit. Both my kids devoured it. This was our first time here and won't be our last.
(Late review - July 2024) Was here for our anniversary for the first time. My husband and I were tired of all the mediocre places that went viral. We tried a number of them and were disappointed. We found this place on Yelp and took a chance, and LOVED IT! I ordered fried fish tacos and it was seriously the best. It was exactly what I wanted and satisfied every fish taco craving I had! Staff was super friendly and helpful. Seating was surprisingly plenty, there were more in the back but we opted to sit outside. The price was also decent, nothing overpriced. Bottom line: It's been over a year and I'm still thinking about it!
Sleeping Giant Grill - plate lunch so delicious, it will have you coming back for more! I looked up places with the best plate lunch before we arrived to Kauai and Sleeping Giant Grill seemed to be very well rated and highly recommended. The restaurant is on the smaller side and tucked away in a smaller stripe mall behind the Coconut Marketplace. There is limited outdoor seating, and also a larger indoor seating area found at the back of the restaurant. My husband ordered the Teriyaki Chicken and I got the Habanero Chicken - both ordered with the mac salad and rice. The portions were fairly large, although I would have loved even more mac salad because I love to have all components of the plate in every bite and ran out of mac salad quickly. This is the first time I've had a mac salad with potatoes in it, and although I'm not usually an enjoyer of potato salad, this was delicious!! If I can recommend one item off of this menu, it would be the Habanero Chicken. It was cooked to perfection - the breading was perfectly crispy and the heat level was decently spicy. The flavor was so delicious, I bought an extra side of the sauce to drizzle over the chicken. Although they offer a wide variety of items on their menu, I ordered the same thing on two different occasions because it was THAT good. This was our first meal upon arriving to the island and it truly set the bar so high! I absolutely devoured everything on my plate and the second I finished eating, I had one of those moments where I thought, "I will be very bummed if we don't return here again before the end of our trip." Don't worry - we did return!
Fresh Poke to die for!! Small place..lots of locals eat here..yummy BYOB Sits in an area off Coconut shopping area on Kūhiō
The last time we came here was 8.5 years ago and we weren't sure this place still existed. Lo and behold it sure did and we were so excited to go straight from the airport to eat our favorite ono fried fish, crunchy. Creamy sauce. Just perfect. For the kiddos they had a chicken teriyaki rice bowl with carrots and they loved it. And of course a lilikoi cheesecake to commence our vacation. Everyone was so friendly, we even had an employee named Vince talked to us and gave us some tips. What a lovely place to sit down and grab a bite. Shopping center to the right with more things to try. We can't wait to come back again! Thank you for all the love you put into making your food, it truly shows!
Delicious. Amazing. Can't wait to go back. Service was amazing love the music, indoor seating was great. Tons of menu options. Ono fish tacos were incredible as always. But that steak?! 10/10
Welcoming, kind, cozy, delicious, amazing people, amazing service. I cannot speak highly enough about this place. Looks like a hole in the wall but I assure you it will be some of the best food of your life! Everything we ate was delicious- the ahi tuna wrap was spectacular, as were the Ono tacos and shrimp tacos. The guy working behind the register was so kind and even took us back to see the tuna they were prepping for the next day! This place is a must try! When a place serves food on plates like these- you know it's gonna be good! MUST TRY! read more

Crispy fresh hot ono fried tacos. YUMMY. Came here twice to get these darn tacos and also tried their habanero fried chicken. If you're a fan of spice, the habanero sauce packs a punch. The fish tacos are giant and the cilantro crema they use is drinkable good. There are seats inside or out and the food comes out within minutes. Lovely staff that makes you want to support this terrific business. read more

We loved the Korean Barbecue Plate. The chicken had a smoky grilled flavor that permeates each piece. The brown rice was tender and well-seasoned. The salad was both delicious and beautiful. I wanted to drench everything in their house miso dressing. Prices were very reasonable. We can't wait to eat there again. read more

Best dinner I've ever had out that came on a paper plate! Asked the staff what the freshest catch was and she said the Uku (grey snapper?). Never had it but I'm now a fan. It's a very meaty, mild fish that was topped with a lemon butter sauce...perfection. Came with rice and potato mac. Loved both but they weren't the star of the show...the Uku was. read more

the freshest I am will try any fish taco place once. I am glad I came here. their tacos are excellent. the grilled ahi was fresh and tender, topped with a refreshing saw and tangy sauce. garnished with some small edible flowers. came in a pack of two tacos sadly, I could've definitely have used one more. we also tried their grilled shrimp plate which was also excellent. shrimp was jumbo and juicy. read more
Meh. I had the fish tacos, which was made with grilled Ono. It was okay, although I found the fish to be a little overcooked. The sauces were okay, but nothing I'd write home about. I had hoped for a little spice, but there was absolutely none. I even asked for more salsa, but it had absolutely no zing. My girlfriend got the Tempeh Burrito. Her response was like mine, just okay. The place is of reasonable size, with plenty of seating inside and a few tables outside. We sat outside, which was nice. It's set back from the main drag, next to the Aston Hotel. If you're looking for good fish tacos or fresh Mexican, especially something with a little spice, there are better places in Kapa'a. read more

CERTIFIED BANGAH. The cajun seared ahi salad was something special. It's a bit expensive but it's worth it. It was seared ever so slightly to perfection, flavortown in the sear, and combined with the fresh salad...chef's kiss. Service was friendly too. I'm surprised it wasn't more busy with the high quality of food but we did come at an off time. You must come!! read more

My husband and I were staying at a hotel nearby and thought we'd stop here for dinner. It was really busy on a Tuesday night, so we figured it was a really popular spot with great food. We ordered takeout and the food was ready within 20 minutes. We ordered the grilled ahi burrito, ono fried fish tacos, and a lilikoi cheescake slice. The ahi burrito was okay. It was a little dry, and there were some sprouts or vegetables in there that just didn't taste good at all. The fish tacos were huge but they were so overcooked and dry - I'd compare them to thick chicken breast tenders. It was not enjoyable at all. The lilikoi cheescake was lacking in the lilikoi flavor - it just tasted like regular cheesecake. read more

Very nice little restaurant next to hotel stayed at that had delicious food. Was thinking we would eat outside, but there was a decent area further inside with tables. Order taken at counter and food brought to table, otherwise easy to help yourself to napkins and water. Very efficient system. Food was fresh and delicious, with just a bit of improvements to be had. - Grilled ono plate = great fish entree, but the charred marks on the fish was of course bitter and had to cut those out. It was a great fresh piece of fish! except for the grill marks. - Fried ono tacos = excellent solid fish fried up! The overall flavor of the combination of ingredients in the taco was absolutely fantastic, a must get!!! Only way to improve the enjoyment here would be to have better tortilla, since that part felt generic. - Lilikoi cheesecake = was a bit disappointed when received since it didn't look all that special. But as I always get reminded, don't judge a book by it's cover. Boy was this an excellent dessert! Perfect balance of sweet with bit of lilikoi tart and hint of coconut. Such a perfect end to the meal, don't miss it! read more
I've had a lot of poke on this trip, and this was, by far, the best one. We've had a lot of lunches, a lot of fresh seafood, and this, again, was the best meal. One thing I've learned here is that the exterior and interior of the space is 100% not an indicator of the quality of food you'll be getting. Outside had a few tables, inside had a small seating area, there were no flashy signs or decor...just really, really good food that came out on paper plates. We got the poke platter and the grilled fish plate and our favorite meal of the trip only cost $50. The fish, the rice...everything was spectacular. Stop by for a quick meal (it was ready in about 6-7 minutes) and I dare you to be disappointed. So simple, and so delicious. read more

I'd give this place a solid 3 stars. The overall experience was just okay, but there's definitely room for improvement. The fish was overcooked and ended up being dry, which was disappointing considering it's a seafood-focused restaurant. Portions were also on the smaller side, especially for the price. I was particularly let down by the fish tacos--they were below standard and lacked the flavor and freshness you'd expect. Nothing really stood out in a positive way, but it wasn't terrible either. With some attention to quality and consistency, this place could be much better. 5 stars for the staff. read more
