In my opinion, this is essentially an upscale Chipotle. The food is heavily Americanized rather than authentic Mexican cuisine. When I go to a Mexican restaurant, I'm looking for traditional Mexican flavors. If I wanted Americanized Mexican food, I'd rather just go to Chipotle. We ordered the fish burrito, braised beef burrito, shrimp taco, and lime flan. The fish and braised beef burritos were both good, but they weren't memorable enough that I'd order them again. The shrimp taco was just okay and not something I'd recommend. The biggest disappointment was the lime flan. It was by far the worst item we tried and not enjoyable at all. Overall, this restaurant wasn't for me. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this may not meet your expectations. I won't be returning.

We were on the way back from ele ele and called ahead to order our dinner. We got two taco salads, a smothered ultimate chicken burrito, dip sampler, and kids quesadilla. They estimated 30 minutes and we would get there in 20. We ended up being able to grab our food at 20 minutes. We took the food back to our hotel and were able to enjoy it there. The taco salad I got came with their garlic shrimp. The shrimp was good not fishy tasting but less garlic than a shrimp truck. My sister got the beef (shredded like bulgogi) taco salad. I am surprised it wasn't ground beef. There was a lot of sour cream, guacamole, salsa and dressing that it was a whole bunch or heaviness on a bed of mixed greens. The taco shell was nice and crunchy even after having all the salad parts in it. My husbands smothers ultimate chicken burrito was delicious! Especially with their spicy sauce which I got 5 sides of. The dip trio: salsa, guacamole, and pumpkin queso. I don't think we got the salsa unless it was part of the hot sauce and we. Weren't charged for it. The pumpkin queso was interesting-very light on the pumpkin but still good. Overall, we were very happy with the choices we ordered. The smothered burrito was perfect and a recommendation if you want great flavor and lots of food!

Underwhelming dinner....ordered the garlic shrimp tacos. Huge tacos but only 4 shrimp per taco. Shrimp had a cornmeal batter on them and were deep fried. Server did the bare minimum. Not sure how they have so many reviews and the rating they have.

Happy hour! I found myself in Lihue for work for 2 days and on the first day, I found Verde. I sat at the bar and was checked on frequently. I ordered chips and queso and it hit the spot! Add a margarita and we were on our way to a fabulous happy hour. When I learned they make their own tortilla in-house, I couldn't resist. I ordered 2 warmed tortilla with a side of butter, and I was transported back to my childhood for a warm snack after my grandma made tortilla when she would visit. How much did I like Verde? I went back the next day before my flight home! I also bought some tortillas to bring home and enjoy later.

Had lunch at Verde in Lihue, and it ended up being one of those meals that quietly surprises you. We ordered a bit of everything -- no meat nachos (good), stacked chicken enchiladas (really good), veggie enchiladas (good), chicken quesadilla (good), and the verde burrito (really good). Everything tasted fresh and balanced, the kind of food that feels homey but still layered with flavor. What really stood out was their veggie-forward menu. It's rare to find a place that actually celebrates vegetables instead of treating them like an afterthought. The no meat nachos and veggie enchiladas had real texture and color -- you could tell someone cared about how the ingredients came together. Service was slow, which tested our patience a bit, but once the food arrived, it was hard to stay annoyed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's the kind of spot that doesn't try too hard -- just good, thoughtful food with a little island ease.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I had seen Verde featured on a local TV show awhile ago, so during a recent visit to Kauai, I decided to stop by before heading to the airport. So glad I did! I enjoyed fresh guacamole and chips, a glass of Pinot Noir and their Braised Kauai Beef Tostada Salad - so satisfying filling and tasty! I love the flavors and local beef is THE best! Service was super Aloha and lovely. I would definitely stop by the next time I'm in Kauai. Mahal nui loa!

A unique Mexican/asian blend restaurant. If that is what you're looking for, you will LOVE it. The portions are good sized and the food came quick.

Had a great time at Verde recently. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Verde is more of a casual sit down dine-in restaurant, but please choose this spot if you love Mexican food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This is by far the best Mexican food in Lihue. Our meal was so delicious and customer service was extremely attentive and helpful. We ordered a tostada and chicken burrito and were pleasantly surprised but so much flavor and generous portions! Our waitress continuously checked in with us to see how we were liking our meals, and even suggested to us to try the ube churros. We weren't planning on dessert, but so thankful we tried the ube churros it was such a delicious dessert. We will be back soon!

Service was good and food was okay. Not your usual Mexican food. Plate of enchiladas wasn't what I was expecting and still was craving enchiladas after the meal. Horchata was pretty good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good place to go if you're looking for clean vegetarian or vegan options.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The service was great and good ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food tasted really good. Fresh veggies in the burrito and very filling. The ube horchata was really tasty. I didn't find it too sweet. Would definitely come back here.

This place was one of our very favorite restaurants we visited while in Kauai. It was one of the few places we chose ourselves verses following recommendations from locals and we were not only surprised no one had mentioned it but absolutely BLOWN AWAY by how great the food was. Not to fail to mention, it was by far one of the two more reasonably priced places not just by quality but by portion. The tacos were large and on homemade tortillas with so much flavor, and the burrito was as big as my arm and the blend of beans and potatoes... highly recommend getting bacon!! The service was so fast and nice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was sit down but very casual with a lot of natural light and plants inside which we loved.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I can't wait to eat here again!

Furikake Mahimahi Tacos were amazing! Service is okay. Tap beer was out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Small tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Good food.

We had a view of the ocean. It was pretty high waves after a nearby tropical storm so that was fun to watch. The photo ops are incredible here. They have wonderful seating overlooking the water. Would be great to come here just for drinks. We started with an ahi sashimi appetizer. We pretty much get ahi sashimi at every restaurant in Hawaii. It was good. The hawaiian painkiller drink was nice. Not too strong. For entrees, I picked Kampachi which came with bok choy. Although the portion looked small, it was a good size. Very flavorful. I had a hard time picking between 3 fish entrees. This one worked out well. My wife had a shrimp farfalle pasta. She enjoyed it. When we went to order dessert, they brought us out a lava cake like dessert with happy anniversary written in chocolate on the plate. Complimentary and such a nice touch! It seems like they do pay attention on the reservation. The place was semi-busy but not packed. Bar looked huge. Great service as well.

While waiting for our table, we stood right outside taking 4-5 quick family photos--something I think most people do while on vacation. Unfortunately, while we were literally just a few feet away, the hostess gave away the ocean-view table that had been intended for us without ever coming over to get us or communicating with us. That lack of communication completely changed the experience. We were then seated at a table with an awful view--essentially looking at bushes. At an ocean-view resort, that is not what you expect, especially when you specifically planned a family dinner there. We spoke with the hostess stand, but there was no meaningful effort to accommodate us. After we were already upset, the manager eventually came over and offered another table--but only if we waited another 45 minutes. We were also offered a high-top table, which simply isn't practical when you're dining with four young children. The entertainment made the poor seating even more obvious. When the luau dancers came through, our family literally had to get up from our table to see the performance. That is how obstructed our view was. I want to be clear that our server was wonderful and completely at no fault. She provided great service and did everything she could. The issue was the hostess stand, the lack of communication, and the complete lack of ownership or accommodation after the mistake happened. People don't come to a beautiful ocean-view resort to spend their special family dinner staring at bushes. What makes this especially frustrating is that our original ocean-view table was right there, and we were never given the courtesy of being told, "Your table is ready." We were taking a few family photos--not disappearing for an hour. For a restaurant at this level, I expected much better judgment, communication, and customer service recovery. Unfortunately, the experience left a very bad impression, and I would not return to Hualani or recommend it for a special occasion.
