Very friendly staff, even offered to cut our kids burger in half for them to share. Burgers were great, wish the teriyaki sauce on the fries wasn't so salty but that's okay it was still pretty good.

They know how to make burgers! We've been here in the past and wanted our new vacation friends to enjoy a good burger. The young lady behind the counter pleasantly welcomed us. She took the time to explain the menu and offered popular items. Outdoor seating is available when the weather permits. Indoor tables and seating is limited. Often you can sit under cover along the front patio. Unfortunately the front parking lot is small. I don't know what parking options there are. Everyone savored every bite!

We've passed by this place so many times and never stopped and I'm mad we hadn't. The lady at the counter was really nice and was working her butt off and so was the rest of the staff, so visitors please be patient and kind! The burgers are made fresh and hot and were delicious! The fries were also hot and crispy and the furikake fries were full of flavor. We also ended up ordering a Lychee milkshake which was surprisingly soooo good. Never had one before. The place itself has some seating inside, out front, and a little back patio. Definitely recommend and will be back to try more things off the menu!

Hubby wanted a good burger on our Kauai getaway, so fired up Yelp and it brought me to Kenji's! This location was in Kapa'a and we learned there is another location in Kilauea. Like a lot of eateries on Kauai it's in a plantation style wooden stand alone building with its own parking lot, no AC, it was a warm day with no trade winds, I felt so bad for the workers, despite the heat we were greeted warmly by Jade and she was very helpful with her descriptions and recommendations of menu items. There are a couple of 4 top tables inside, out back there is seating under umbrellas and in front along the railings on the porch are bar height seating. The food came out quickly, fresh and hot. I ordered the Misoyaki Fish Bowl, Misoyaki Butterfish on a bed of rice and an arugula salad with Shoga Ginger, radish and almost tasted like an Ume dressing, it was delicious! My hubby ordered the Truffle Burger with Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and truffle sauce, patty looked like it was a half pound. They also had Furikake fries but my hubby opted to skip the fries, but it is a popular item. To top it all off we had the Lychee Milk Shake....what??? A Lychee Milk Shake??? Not sure how that goes together so we had to try it. It was ONO! My hubby is already saying we have to go back, maybe try the one in Kilauea as we were told they have a full bar and it closer to where our hotel is. Highly recommend!

Service: friendly Parking: small lot Food: Truffle burger: really enjoyed this a lot Hapa burger: good but sauce was sweet for me, I probably would get the sauce on the side Furikake fries: same comment sauce I would get a side of to dip but great flavors! Wanted to get the lychee milkshake but I was already at my calorie limit lol Ps thanks for the chicken sprayers bottle. Didn't need it but appreciate it!

Dreaming of returning to Kenji Burger. I got the Kenji burger and furikake fries, both served with an excellent ponzu aioli & teriyaki glaze. They handled our big group quickly without sacrificing quality. I'm back in Chicago and wish we had something like this nearby--it's the kind of place I'd become a regular at. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

My coworker and I had to pick up an order at Home Depot and needed a nearby place to grab food with seating. We found Kenji Burger on Yelp, and the menu and photos looked really promising. I'll admit, the name also appealed to me since Kenji happens to be my brother's middle name - felt like it was meant to be! It was another late lunch for us, so we were pretty hungry by the time we arrived. The space was casual and comfortable - exactly what we needed for a quick, satisfying meal between errands. I ordered the chicken katsu sandwich. The chicken was moderately moist and not overly fried, with just the right amount of thickness. Instead of lettuce, it came with coleslaw, which I'm normally not a fan of, but it actually complemented the katsu patty really well. The bun was nicely toasted, which added a great texture to the whole sandwich. That said, while the sandwich was good, I probably wouldn't order it again just because of the cole slaw. It's just not my thing, even though I can appreciate that it worked with the flavors. The sandwich didn't come with a side, so I ordered the furikake fries separately - and WOW, I'm so glad I did. These fries are similar to McDonald's fries in thickness and came out perfectly crispy (which I love). They were drizzled with teriyaki sauce, what I think was mayo, and topped with furikake. The ingredients worked so well together that I would order these over and over again if I ever went back. Seriously addictive. My coworker opted for the Kenji burger, which also didn't come with a side, so we split the furikake fries. He enjoyed his meal as well. The service was fantastic, and the food came out fairly quickly. Definitely a solid spot if you're in the area and craving something different from the usual burger joint.

The burgers could have used a little more salt, which is weird because restaurants usually over salt the food. You can always add salt so that doesn't bother me. All the burgers were good, some more flavorful than others. They weren't over cooked either, which is unusual as well. They were medium instead of well done like most burger joints. I like how they use the grass-fed big island beef. It's hard to find food that is healthy when eating out. Surprisingly the sushi burrito was my favorite and fantastic, I would get two next time. It was very hot inside, there is no ac in the restaurant, so we sat outside. There are so many chickens begging for food, they are pests to the owners. They had an outdoor area with some spray bottles with water to spray the chickens. They want them gone, and will eat your food off the table if left unattended. It was near a canal that you can walk to. We explored the canal while we waited for our food. Service was friendly and helpful. We had a great experience and will go back when in the area.

Making sure that we try this top rated place in Kapa'a. The place is relatively small, had limited seating inside and outside. I think this is more of a to go kind of place. We seated outside facing the street which is nice because there's fresh wind and much cooler than sitting inside. The wait is between 15-20 minutes, I guess because there's a lot of customers that comes. Service is good, staffs are nice and attentive. The foods are delicious - they're meat is 100% grass fed so that kind of sets the tone and the difference from other hamburger place. Would be dining in again when in town.

What a place! Have eaten there twice now and it hasn't disappointed, casual island atmosphere, pretty much an all outdoor setting but it was nice in the shade watching football. Burgers to bowls and sushi burritos of all types. Truffle burger is fantastic and they ask how you want it prepared. Lobster burrito with crab and lettuce also had great flavor and the chicken katsu bowl was delicious with sriracha slaw, I haven't had katsu for a long time! Probably some of the best fries I have ever had! ONLY complaint depending on where you sit the public restroom is adjacent to the patio so you have people constantly walking by the patio looking for the bathroom. FYI it's a single restroom so there is typically a line. Call me crazy but the one view I don't want is people waiting in line for the bathroom !

Plain burger with flavors of all

Cozy little spot with decent prices. The bun was honestly the best part. I ordered a plain burger with cheese to really taste the grass-fed beef. The patty had a rich teriyaki flavor, and you could tell the grill had that old, seasoned taste not a bad thing, but I personally prefer my burger cooked more done. I probably should've said something, but it's okay. The teriyaki burger itself was a bit of a mess. It reminded me why simple is often better the sauce felt too busy, like it was trying to hide what could've been a good burger with a modern overload. Fries were about McDonald's quality, but at least made from real potatoes. Overall, it was a good experience, but not one I'd return to try again.

    Meg C.

Had the misoyaki fish bowl and fries - the black cod was very flavorful, almost buttery, loaded with umami flavor that was a bit sweeter than expected, but balanced by the refreshing amazu salad. It was a touch overcooked but still enjoyed it. Fries were hot and tasty. Partner had the kenji burger, which he liked but found it a bit too sweet and it was very messy, lots of sauces. We washed the meal down with some local beers, a Pilsner and a NE IPA that were pretty good. We were lucky to be able to grab a seat in the back patio which was much nicer in terms of ambiance than the inside or the seating area facing the highway. Service was stellar, the woman who took our order was very kind and personable. Prices are reasonable for Hawaii. Solid spot for a casual meal.

Maybe we caught them at a bad time, but the food and beer were mediocre at best. I enjoy trying local beers as close to the source as possible, so going to local brewpubs is something my wife and I try to do regularly. It was our third day in Kauai, so made this our lunch choice, and we were hungry after a long tour. There was plenty of parking in the dedicated lot, and it wasn't too busy when we stopped in after 1:30 on a Wednesday. We were greeted promptly and got to choose where we sat, in a picnic table with plenty of space. Chose two house draft beers: Honopu Hefeweizen ($9) which was not good...very weak and watery. But the Hanakoa Cream ale was worse ($9)...chose it because of a local cream ale from Wisconsin that I love. But it tasted more like a glass of lite pilsner, more like a Miller Lite than a cream ale. I had to finish both...should have just ordered one. The food came out a bit later. We wanted to share the local Style Smoke meat plate (sounded promising), which was a plate of pork shoulder ($16). Plenty of it, but it felt like leftover meat, reheated in a sugary sauce...looked and tasted like Tocino (which isn't my favorite), not like pulled pork/kalua pork. It came with a scoop of white rice. I got the spicy Poke ($19) which used good quality raw ahi tuna. It had lots of tasty, spicy mayo and was enjoyable. But the rice was not cooked well (it was mushy), and I had to ask myself: why has the rice been so mediocre for our first two days? (It got better as the trip went on). My wife got the Huli Huli Veg & Rice plate ($25)...not good. Just two pieces of chicken breast meat (coming from frozen) with a very light sauce (flavorless) and the carrots were big chunks, candied, which is not what we expected. Brought most of this back to our hotel (since we had a fridge), but neither one of us touched it for the rest of the trip. Pricing is inconsistent (the chicken plate should have been the cheapest item considering the ingredients and prep work). Payment was done through Toast, and there was a 3% service charge for using credit card.

The service was outstanding from the hostess, bar tenders, chefs and our wonderful server, Kapua!! She was so friendly and always checked on us without being intrusive. We have been on the island for 6 nights. Each evening we have tried Mai Tai's. Lava Lava's are by far the best!!! They are not too sweet and a good pour! We got there early as the other reviews said it gets crowded and they do not take reservations. We arrived at 5 pm on a Wednesday and were seated right away closest to the beach. For our starter we had edamame which was a large portion and so good. My husband ordered the Chicken Pineapple Rice Bowl and substituted the chicken for the coconut shrimp. The rice was AMAZING as well as the shrimp, but our only complaint was the portion was very small and was served with only 3 shrimp. The picture looks like you get a lot, but it came in a carved out SMALL pineapple. The presentation was beautiful though. I had the Ceasar salad and added chicken. It was so good!!! The lettuce was so crisp! Nothing worse than a Ceasar salad with wilty romaine lettuce. I've had plenty of those in my day. This was one of the best I've ever had! Everything arrived in a timely manner. We had a great night. Side note...they offer free valet parking which is at the very top of the parking lot.
