Big Nick's was such a standout spot during our time in Kauai! I ordered the chili pepper chicken bowl, which came with three pieces of juicy, flavorful chicken that had the perfect spicy kick -- not overwhelming, but definitely satisfying. A great stop for a tasty lunch while out exploring Hanalei. The inside is a quaint little shop with a kitchen that looks like a little food truck within the shop. I have ate at Nicks multiple times this visit , 2 times. And my boyfriend 3 times. As well as about 5 times last summer. Today , I decided to get food from Fresh bite, which I highly recommend. Staff is great and accommodating, and more healthy! The man came out and said no food was allowed up there. My boyfriend had just ordered a burger and drink, and we said ok and left. Maybe something changed. A few hours later after spending time in the shops, we drove by and saw people eating. Will not be back after so rudely being treated, as we have spend hundreds of dollars there the last few trips. I will much rather go to the Burger food truck which is just around the corner! The burger is a double Teriyaki glazed burger, with American cheese, crispy onions, sauce, lettuce and tomato. Super flavorful, and super juicy. Probably in my top 10-15 burgers of all time. I wish it had a spread on the bun for flavor, but that's a personal preference. I'd still order the burger again. The fries were plentiful, hot and super yummy too!! One of my pet peeves is being served luke warm fries. If I am going to eat something not so healthy for myself, I sure as heck don't want to waste it on luke warm food. An outside deck that has bar stools all along it. Below the deck are plenty of picnic tables. They were supposed to be open at 11:30 on Wednesday. No one was there at 11:30, and still no one was there at 12:45, when we were passing by again. No sign on the door saying, "We're closed for vacation/renovation." We ended up walking down the road and enjoyed killer pizza at Hanalei Pizza. Edited to add: the owner responded to my review saying that he is sick with a fever and that his son fractured his wrist. He also asked me to remove my review. I'm sorry the owner is sick, and I'm sorry his son has been injured, and I suspect someone can stop by the restaurant and hang a sign in the window saying the place is temporarily closed. Came across Big Nick's on Yelp, my wife was a bit skeptical on how a previous customer's review was handled but that sounded like there were two sides of the story and I'm not here to judge. The young guy at the counter said, we actually do have some kid options that aren't listed on the menu. PERFECT! They also have a filtered water refill station inside so bring your water bottles! Wow! Another Kauai gem discovered by complete accident. The bridge out of Hanalei was closed & we walked around looking for some food to eat instead of standing in long traffic line. And that's when we discovered this amazing place. DA GRUMPY PANIOLO burger was amazing. Even the fries were amazing. We also tried taro fritters & oh boy they were delicious! Had the big Nicks burger and it was ok but not $23 in my opinion. The fries were stale. Also had the Da Local Plate, proteins were great. But dammit, I am the kind of Asian that eat rice for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even snack! The rice was so damn undercooked, it still had hard lumps in the grain. The 2 scopes of rice were probably $5? The wife told the young server lady about it and the young man server overheard it and walked over to my wife and told my wife (and I Quote) "it's better eaten that way!" Are you freaking kidding me?
