Just came from back to our room from eating at this place and all I can say is the food was really great . We ordered the Kimchi rice , cabbage , wings , pork belly bao and sliders. The cabbage was really surprisingly good ! The Kimchi rice was flavorful , belly bao and sliders were also good . Our server was also very nice , I just cant remember her name. Visiting from the Big Island went here for lunch. This place reminded me of a local bar with plenty of tables. The service there is friendly and accommodating. The food not so good - loco mono was not good gravy was very thin and watery. Hubby and I asked for our burgers medium rare and were done well plus burgers were dry. We went there for the evening happy hour. Decent selection of beers at happy hour prices. We were surprised at how small the bar space was giving the name taps and hops. We would've liked to sit at the bar, but there were only eight seats and they were all taken. We decided to make our meal out of the appetizer so we could try a wide selection of their foods. We really enjoyed the fried dumplings, and the chicken wings were super crispy and massive with a delicious garlic soy sauce. We also tried the sliders which were decent and the pork belly bowl was yummy, but just not enough pork. Overall, it was a nice experience with good service. If you order your appetizers staggered, it's nice to have one arrive at the table hot just as you finish the previous one. Cute little restaurant and bar that we went to for a quick brew! It was after a long hike, so we were excited to get some refreshments. Simple stuff, and honestly, it's great to be able to sit down and cool off. The staff was friendly, and we were taken care of right away! Plenty of seating in the restaurant, and they were playing high school musical tracks. What a niche playlist. We ordered a couple of beers, and even some stuff to share: some grilled shrimp. There's really not much to say here. We weren't super hungry, so we ended up just doing the beer and the skewers! It was the perfect little pick me up for the middle of the afternoon. This was the best "brewery" food I've EVER had. It wasn't just your normal brewery menu. It was a craft food menu made with love. Everything on this menu sounded amazing. We had a hard time deciding. Our lovely waitress helped us decide out of the things we wanted to try based on her faves. We got crab wings ( LIKE WHAT, never heard of these before), loco moco, & fish burger. My husband and I were making food noises the entire time and we had to order a second round of the crab wings. We also got beer/cider and it was delish. They had a bunch of open doors between inside and outside. We sat outside and it was lovely. highly recommend! read more

This place is amazing! It's right off the main highway and it has ample parking. Surrounded by tons of other eateries, this place stood out because it was so busy on a Monday! We were seated and served quickly. Our server was friendly and helpful. We conveniently ended up there at happy hour and the menu was great. The soft shell crab is incredible. I wish I had ordered more. It was so juicy and flavorful. We also got the pork belly bao which was good and a nice side salad to complement. Drink wise, they have plenty of options and a great happy hour selection. The coconut mule was delicious and not too sweet, and my husband enjoyed his beer. We were so happy with the experience. Staying across the street at Worldmark and had to come here for dinner this evening. Had the mahi mahi fish platter which was cooked perfectly with great seasonings. The fish was paired with a macaroni salad with a little wasabi kick and also a side of rice. A great choice. Wife enjoyed a beef slider and a side of pot stickers which were also very good. Stopped in for lunch and was happy to find a restaurant with nice open air seating, along with outside tables. There's also a full bar inside. I'd give the food and drinks more like 3 1/2 stars, rather than 3. It was pretty good but not awesome. We arrived during happy hour and took advantage of the slightly reduced food and drink prices. I had the small order of Loco Moco, which was decent. The gravy had a nice flavor and it was done well. But, I also tried the Loco Moco fries and found that I liked those even more! They were like having Poutine fries, but Hawaiian style! Our server was friendly, he explained happy hour, and made beer recommendations when asked. Stopped off here on our way to Princeville shortly after getting off the plane and it did not disappoint! Lots of fresh air and breezes in a nice, open space, and the service was fast and friendly. We have been in the island for days looking for a place that offered a variety of draft beers. While bike riding on the 'Off The Beaten Path' bike trail we came across Taps and Hops Eatery. Was perfect since we were so thirsty from the bike ride. The place has an amazing selection of draft and bottled beer. 12oz and 16oz available. We ordered the Salted Cabbage appetizer and it is surprisingly delicious. Had a hamburger and Loco Moco. Food was good, not too small and not too big. At the end of our meal I was able to speak with the owner and thank him for providing draft beers. Very comfortable place and atmosphere. read more

Super Bowl at Taps and Hops Eatery was awesome! They let us move the table so we had a great view of the tvs! They had over 12 tvs so there was not a bad seat in the house! Service was great Josh took good care of us when we stopped in for a snack and a drink. Drinks were very good. The food was interesting we ordered 3 different pupus and we eat everything the chicken wings were very crispy and the salt and vinegar dry rub was nice, the wings meat had a slight gamey flavor but that could just be the source of the meat being different than I'm used to. Going to start with... BEST WINGS ON THE ISLAND! Now that I've got your attention; my wife and I are visiting Kaua'i for our tenth anniversary; we're foodies, chicken wing connoisseurs & past restauranteurs. We were on a driving tour to the North Coast and had stopped to view the lighthouse (we're from New England so the lighthouse, not so spectacular; but a neat history) when we luckily happened upon a dedicated marketing professional (waitress) from Taps and Hops! She was there, killing time until the post office opened and, very awesomely, plugging her place of employment by handing out cards and encouraging us to visit. After a quite engaging conversation about our mornings and inviting her to purchase tires from our business in Massachusetts next time she needs to () she let us know more about Taps and Hops; including that it was in Kapa'a; right where we were staying! On to the food... OMG... the wings... if they weren't brined (which I believe they were) I don't know how this awesome chef/owner got the taste and the tenderness of a perfect wing. Not too big, not too small. The CRUNCH!?! My guess, rice flour, corn starch and baking soda. MAN, he's got something there! We got the garlic parm with a side of buffalo. The fresh garlic-forward taste coupled with the shredded parm was overwhelmingly amazing! Unfortunately, the buffalo (I think) was straight up Franks... BUT, fortunately, you take that Franks, pair it with your favorite Hawai'ian-made hot sauce from the offerings bucket and a bit of their blue cheese dressing and you've got a dipping sauce to die for! My wife and I have made wings, eaten wings and sold this very item. These are, hands-down, the best I can remember having! Enough about the wings. We also got the Mandu. Can't say enough good things about them. The local island-sourced beef, the tender wrap with just enough crunch atop... it was a Korean melt in your mouth journey with an island kick. As if good enough wasn't good enough, we sided these two menu items with the Loco Moco fries; perfect decision on our part! The fries, though not fresh (who actually really likes a hand cut oil-sogged fry?) were perfect sized, crispy crunchety wands of expertly seasoned potato goodness topped with crumbles of local ground beef before being drenched in what had to have been a house-made brown gravy and topped with a sunny-style egg. Yum. I drank beer; awesome, awesome beer that I wish I could get back in MA; Hop Island from Honolulu Beerworks. My wife says that if you're to get a cocktail it should be the first one on the list because she can't remember the name. It's a margarita made with the local Hawai'ian "spice". I tried it. We'll be buying that special powder to add to our bar! (Found it. It's the Linghing Mui Margarita). Yes, the place looks kinda Applebee's chain-like from the road. Yes, all we had was apps. Yes, the owner is a little shy, but he'll talk if you make him. Josh, the waiter, is very attentive and full of information. Restrooms were clean, tables were tables and the chairs need a bit more padding if you don't want a flat rear-end after loading on the pounds here. If you like wings... LOVE wings... go here... And it did NOT disappoint. It was happy hour so we tried a pork bao (different than I'm used to, with some "mustard mayo" and a house made dill pickle) and it was delicious! We also had the beef slider- good as well. Cooked to a perfect medium-well. But, the stars were the wings (SUPER crispy and a nice size) and the kimchi fried rice. Holy cow. I don't know who's chef-ing back there, but hats off to the chef(s). The service was great, too! The bartender was so sweet and accommodating. I love a good happy hour and Taps & Hops has two! From 12-3 and 5-8. We always get the Kauai beef sliders ($4.50), Pork Bun Bao ($4.25), and the Mandoo ($1 ea. min. 3). I hate giving 5 stars but this place deserves it. We were greeted right away by the bartender and he got us seated quickly. You could kinda tell that they might have been short staffed, which is the way of the world these days. But the service was great. We could tell our server cared and was proud about the restaurant and what we thought. Happy Hour was 5-8 and I think there was another one before 3:30. Great prices for some good draft beers. I ordered a special cocktail concoction. It was a mix of coconut rum, watermelon and some other things. I was not wild about it, but that's because I don't really know my hard liquor very well. I need to stick to my lane...Wine. As for the food. Wow. Everything we ordered was excellent. HH: Kimchi fried rice was delish, the sunny side fried egg on top made it especially special with bits of Portuguese sausage? Yummy! Soy garlic chicken bowl was very good and the chicken karage with the special sauce was over the top tasty. Hands down though the pork belly bow was delectable. It was ok. I wonder if places like this should even be reviewed. It's just a bar with some food but they are friendly and Prices were very reasonable for the islands. I might even say cheap! So I think that gets them a decent review. I did not have high expectations but it did the job. I stopped in here on a Thursday afternoon and it does what it says on the sign. There is beer and there is food. Well, they have a full bar as well but this place is pretty basic. They do probably have 12 taps with mostly local beers which is great. They have a happy hour menu that while not extensive, is pretty good and it is cheap. I can't speak to the food too much as I only ordered a few wings but they were fine. A little over cooked/over crispy but they were meaty. I chose garlic Parmesan and it was really just a very strong garlic sauce with some Parmesan sprinkled on top. Not gourmet but not bad. They had other wing options and island favorites like fried rice and loco moco, Baptist buns, among other offerings. Again, all reasonably priced. I saw a few of the other things coming out of the kitchen and they looked ok. Place had room for maybe 10 or so at the bar and the rest of the restaurant was quite large. Few tables outside as well. They could handle a pretty good crowd if they had the staff for it. Bartender was super nice, friendly and attentive. Kept my water glass topped off. Made sure I had a beer in hand and and let me sample a couple taps too. Yeah, I would go back. I'm not making this a destination but I would go back next time I'm in town. We stopped in at 2:00 and it was a nice atmosphere. However it was also happy hour and several large groups of very loud people were seated next to us. We couldn't hear each other. So we rushed our meal in order to leave. The steak and macaroni salad were terrible. Everything our party ordered was very salty and the amount of pepper spoiled the meals Service was good.
