    Veggie pizzetta

It was a dark and stormy night so we ventured here for some food and libations. We settled on two (delicious) pizzettas (fig/prosciutto + veg) and both were excellent. For dessert we had the lilikoi creme brulee and wow, it was perfect! Service was excellent and friendly, all and all a great first time

Visiting from Maui!! Went off a recommendation from our concierge. Local spot in a residential neighborhood. If it seems strange that youre driving through housing... youre actually in the right place. One of the bests meals that I have had on island. I'm just gonna cut to it: -We got the Fried Mac n Cheese (the tomato jam is something else wowza) 10/10 -We got the Grilled Cesar Salad. Like what??? Yeah. So good. Even if youre not into salad, just get it. It will change your mind and ruin salad for you after that cause youre obky going to want it grilled. -We got the NY Strip Steak. Ok, we've had really good steak at different places and this one just chefs kiss. Ask your server how the chef would cook it and go with their recommendation. -Drinks --- we had several and honestly youll have a food time trying any of them so just go for it snd then go for some more. Lol. We didnt save room for dessert however, I would go again just to get a drink and dessert to satisfy that FOMO. ENJOY THIS REALLY COOL PLACE.

Another great meal while on Kauai that was made even more special since it was my birthday! This was the first time here for both of us so we were really looking forward to trying it since we had heard many great things. We also had some really good recommendations on things to order as well...alll of which were spot on. Avalon has quite an extensive and interesting cocktail menu so it was right up our alley. These are the drinks that were had that night... Smoked Manhattan - Woodford Reserve rye, Carpano Antica, house made Cherry vanilla and angostura bitters Spy Who Loved Me - St George reposado gin, Monkey Shoulder, Benedictine, Carpano Antica, house made orange bitters Bacon Old Fashioned - Bacon infused Whistlepig bourbon, maple, house made walnut bitters Chocolate Man-Fashioned - Cacao infused Elijah Craig bourbon, Vanilla simple syrup, house made orange bitters Pink Negroni Sour - *couldn't find the ingredients for this one All the drinks were incredible but I think the favorites of the night were the Spy Who Loved Me and the Pink Negroni Sour. The cocktail menu is huge so many return visits are warranted. Hehe For food this is what we got... We started with the Scotch Egg and the Bone Marrow Pizzetta. The scotch egg is wrapped in house made pork belly sausage and served with a chipotle aioli. Absolutely delicious. Most scotch eggs I've had were too rich with a thick layer of sausage but this one was super well balanced between, luscious egg, thin sausage layer and light crispy exterior. The pizzetta was equally as good, being rich from the bone marrow but still light with the pizzetta being topped with an onion sofrito, mozzarella, garlic, smoked almonds and lemon zest. For our mains we Grilled Lamb Chops and the Mole Kurobuta Pork Chops. Both of these were great as well but I really liked the pork chops which came with a carrot purée, and topped with cotija cheese and cilantro. Very flavorful. The Lamb was tasty as well which came with a mint chimichurri and garlic mashed potatoes. The duck on the menu looked good as well, maybe next time. We were pretty stuffed but did manage to split a dessert, as you know there's always room for bread pudding. Especially when it's brioche bread pudding that's deep fried! The bread pudding is cut into chunks and dunked in hot oil. It comes with butterscotch ice cream and topped with a whiskey caramel. There's not much else to say about this except...YEAH, absolutely worth the tummy bulge. The space and vibe inside is really nice and they even have a whiskey shop in front so you can pick up some hard to find bottles. Avalon is definitely a place I want to try again.

A Hidden Gem of a Gastropub! What a great find! The drink menu is massive -- everything from classic cocktails to $600 1oz pours of whiskey (yes, you read that right!). The food menu may be small, but every bite was incredible. We started with the mac and cheese bites -- four perfectly crispy pieces with a delicious dipping sauce, great for sharing. The Caesar salad was spot on, made with hearts of romaine, just the right amount of parmesan, and a perfectly balanced dressing. My husband ordered the teriyaki hanger steak with mashed potatoes and smoked chipotle tomato butter, and it was freaking amazing -- melt-in-your-mouth good. Drinks were just as impressive: one glass of wine, a whiskey, and a Mai Tai -- all fantastic. Service was great, and while the bill came to $107, it was absolutely worth it for the quality and experience. Highly recommend!

Pink Cadillac cocktail and Hibiscus Margarita mocktail.

Avalon was the best meal we had on Kauai (and best cocktails too). Cool ambiance, great service. Our favorite dishes we tried were the fried green tomatoes and the fig and prosciutto pizza (a tad sweet for my taste, but still artfully done). The cocktails in particular were incredible. We started with the Pink Cadillac cocktail and the Hibiscus Margarita mocktail (basically the non-alcoholic version of the former). Perfect balance of the hibiscus flavor- the mocktail was a little sweeter, which is typical. I then tried the Speak Up cocktail, which was a chartreuse-based cocktail with some roots in the Last Word (and to me reminiscent of San Francisco's own Laphroaig Project). Maybe not a cocktail for the masses but a must try if you like chartreuse. I asked and they came up with this one in house - so it's truly unique. The only miss for me was the chai martini (dessert cocktail). Nothing wrong with it, just way sweeter than I wanted.

Really happy we decided to check this place out. Tons of GF options here! We had the Roasted Beet Salad, Fried Green Tomatoes, Scotch Egg & Smoked Honey wings. All of them were beautifully prepared and had amazing flavor. I wish I had room for an entree but I was already full. Would 100% run in to try this place again next time I am here!

Tucked into a cozy corner with a laid-back vibe, Avalon Gastropub surprised me with one of the most impressive whiskey lists I've come across in a while. From single malts to small-batch bourbons, it's the kind of place that makes you want to settle in, sample a few pours, and really take your time. We started with the bone marrow pizzetta, which was a standout -- rich, decadent, and balanced perfectly with the crisp crust. The scotch egg hit that golden ratio of crispy exterior to soft, runny yolk inside, and I could easily order a few more just for myself. The fried pickles were a fun bar bite--lightly battered and crunchy without being greasy. For the main, the petite steak was cooked beautifully and served tender and flavorful, paired with sides that complemented the dish without overpowering it. Service was warm and attentive without feeling rushed, and the staff clearly knew their whiskey -- great recommendations all around. Whether you're here for a curated tasting or just good comfort food elevated to the next level, Avalon absolutely delivers.

Great food and excellent service by the amazing husband and wife team. We loved it so much we went there our last two nights in a row. Wish we had gone there sooner. Cannot wait to go back! I highly recommend this restaurant! Already referred friends who are there now!!

I'm sad to give Avalon three stars because the place is super cute inside, food was mostly excellent, however, the service, mostly the food/drink timing, was awful! It took about 10 minutes for our waitress to ask for our drink order, and then our drink order didn't come out for almost 15 mins. The poutine was fantastic once it came out about 10 minutes after our drinks. We were also starving at this point. Next came the cauliflower that I really wanted with my hanger steak, but the steak was no where to be found. The cauliflower was pretty bland and not cooked through completely.Eventually my spouses's wings came without my steak so of course he started before me. My steak eventually followed, but the timing on everything was just so disappointing. Our waitress kept saying the food was coming right away, but that just wasn't the case. I wanted transparency and maybe a round of drinks comp'd for our extended wait, but no. We didn't want to complain to management and love to support local but you guys have to do better. We weren't the only table suffering either. Bring the starters all at once, and then bring the entrees all at once.

This place is a great find. I love the speakeasy feel to it. Food was amazing, drinks and a cool breeze. Dawn is an amazing server very friendly and knew her job. She made great recommendations. So go to this place and slow your pace down (this ain't the mainland!).

Arrived on the island tonight and knew I wanted to stop in for a quick bite. Heard good things about this place as they've been in the Kilauea area for a little over a year. Gabe was awesome at the bar and helped me with their huge selection of drinks. Would have loved to try the cherry whiskey smash but went for a glass of red. Good spot for families when there aren't many sit down "nice" spots other than in Princeville and Hanalei.

Fun new place in North Shore Kauai! It was like going to a speakeasy, a small store front with merchandise that leads to a secret whiskey bar gastropub through an old style British red phone booth door. My husband ordered the smoky spicy margarita that came with a wooden barrel cover filled with smoke that was uncovered when served. Quite a dramatic opening. We ordered small plates of the scotch egg and fried green tomatoes. What a treat the egg was split in half with a runny center surrounded by a spicy sausage layer with a crispy crust and quite good. The fried green tomatoes were served with crispy pork belly and avocado, yum! We could have just ordered small plates and been happy. For entrees our group ordered the Pub Steak, Seared Duck Breast and the Grilled Lamb Chops. The duck was moist and juicy and the steak was flavorful, but the standout was the lamb chops! The char on the chops was so flavorful and smoky and served with a chopped garlic and parsley garnish on top with a wonderful blend of flavors. For dessert we shared the caramel coated cheesecake with fried bacon bits that was made in-house and was wonderful! The service was excellent and very attentive. I would definitely go back for more.

A slider would have been a better description of the burger on their entree menu.

This place has an extensive Italian menu, and a huge drink menu showcasing a vast collection of bourbon. All of which is wildly overpriced, which is to be expected in this context. No complaints there. It's the Italian menu. Well, not really the menu...the cooking is horrific. We ordered a Hawaiian BBQ chicken pizza. A 16" thin crust which should have been a nice treat on an island with no shortage of fresh chickens and pineapple, and with a solid love of BBQ. The waitress was friendly and I was very optimistic. We also ordered some salad. The food came out quickly. First the salad. The lettuce was flimsy. The salad dressing was tasteless. It was basically some limp green lettuce and coarse chopped bell peppers. The salad was disappointing, to say the least - you have to seriously not give a rip to make a salad that boring. Then the main event! The pizza arrived. Complete with that nifty metal rack thing they bring out so that your pizza seems to hover over your table. The table did not have red pepper flakes, extra cheese or even salt and pepper - which I figured was a good sign. It looked OK: small chunks of chicken spread thinly across a 16" pizza, with small pineapple chunks (all of which were strangely uniform in size) and a pretty generous splattering of BBQ sauce mixed into the melted mozzarella. I sliced myself a slab of that pie and got ready to eat! One bite told me everything I needed to know. The uniformly shaped pineapple chunks had that telltale slightly metallic flavor because...IT CAME FROM A CAN! Hawaiian sacrilege! Then the BBQ sauce hit. I couldn't tell if it was from unsold McRib sandwiches, KC Masterpiece, or a jug of plain wrap BBQ SAUCE from the Big Save Market. It wasn't good. Then I reached the crust, which seemed like it came out of one of those Pillsbury tubes you get at the store and smack on your kitchen counter to get it to pop open. Nice for wrapping hot dogs for 7 year olds, not so great for pizza dough. The Hawaiian criminal code should include a felony for serving canned pineapple to unsuspecting pizza eaters. Bobby V's doesn't even have a beautiful Hawaiian vibe going for them. The ambiance is the disastrous hell hole called the Coconut Marketplace - a pointless commercial development where they ripped out real Hawaii and built simulated Hawaii. There are several other restaurants walking distance from this place, and even a McDonald's that's not so that far away; even the egg salad from a dispenser in the men's room at a nearby gas station is probably better than the pizza we ate (and it might make you a genius!) While attempting to eat a piece of their awful pizza - I watched as several plates of very overcooked pasta were served at nearby tables. The pasta was clearly very mushy and it didn't smell very good either. Perhaps they serve good desserts, depending on what's on sale at Costco. The beer was good...but someone else made that. Don't just skip Bobby V's, run! Run! And warn the others. I'm an absolutely hard pass on this place and you should be too. UPDATE: We got home from our trip and put together a Costco pizza kit for a late dinner. It was 10X better than Bobby V's pie, and cost about $3.

My order: Veggie Roll Crispy Rice Black Sesame Mochi Cake MAHINA MELE Loved my food! The vegiie roll was like a veggie california roll with a mix of Cucumber, Avocado, Asparagus, and Shiso Leaves. The highlight was the crispy rice. Golden fried , sumptuopus riceand it was delicious! To top it off , they gave us a candle to separate our special occasion over a black sesame mochi caked. Cocktails were great with local spirits. I would recommend booking a table in advance, show up early and the best time would be 30 mins before sunset, so I showed up at 6PM. The views were a killer. The resturant also has a DJ and is open late in the night but after sunset the views become really dark.

We were seated promptly at a cozy table inside with couches; we didn't want to wait for an outside table (tip: make a reservation). The cocktails were not only beautiful, but absolutely delicious and fresh. We loved each dish we ordered and the menu is big - and has something for almost everyone who enjoys Japanese cuisine. The views are incredible - especially at the outside tables. However we were able to enjoy a beautiful sunset where we were inside. Service was excellent - considering how busy it was. You wouldn't know it by how attentive and professional our server was. Excellent evening here and we'll be back. Mahalo to the Welina Terrace team.

We shared the large green papaya salad - fresh crunchy and delicious - and the chicken satay bowl (roasted Jidori chicken thighs, bok choy, soft egg*, scallions, sweet peppers, chili crisp broccoli and a peanut, coconut, satay sauce) - both were fabulous. We also had the sake flight - unique and fun to try. Highly recommend!

My server suggested that the bartender could easily make my requested drink as it is a full service bar, but when I went up to the bartender he seemed so pissed that I would even ask for something off menu! I get that he didn't want to make a drink with egg whites (why?? they are so good, and a good sour is a classic cocktail). But it was his tone and attitude that just seemed so off.. I've never met a bartender who didn't like engaging with a customer (maybe sub in condensed coconut milk if you don't want to use egg whites?). All in all, that completely changed the tone of my night. I felt embarrassed for even asking, and that never should have been the case.
