Excellent dinner! Heard positive things about this restaurant in the past, and luckily for us, open after Hurricane Lowell. A beautiful house dating back to the 1860's, it offers both inside and outside dining. We opted for outside with lots of greenery and an occasional crowing rooster nearby, but the inside dining room was lovely too. Our server, Martin, was friendly and attentive. Hubby ordered a Vintage Mai Tai which looked as good as it tasted. We shared an order of Crispy Brussels sprouts which was phenomenal: "7 spice Den- miso sauce, scallions and bubu-arare " creating a delicious and healthy dish. Hubby had the Swordish Milanese, a large portioned and beautifully prepared entree which he thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered the Campanelle Pasta, another delicious and big portioned meal with " Garlic-Caper Pecorino Crema, Pistachio, Aleppo and Lemon Zest", and took most of it home. The dessert menu looked great, but we had no room. Met the warm and hospitable owner, Joe, who welcomes his guests and was a pleasure to talk to. Also met Angel, the bartender, another fabulous employee. Please make sure to eat here: creative menu with outstanding food, and an exceptional bunch of employees to take care of you. read more

The dinner we had here was delicious! I had the scallops dish, the Hokkaido scallops, and my husband had the New York wagyu steak. We started off by sharing a mixed greens salad. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. We ended with the Lappert's Kauai ice cream pie, sharing one piece, which is out of this world delicious. I would say that I'm really only giving 4.5 stars instead of 5 because for me this amount of food is very light, although my husband did better with the steak. If you're really hungry, the portions here can be very small. Other than that, it was a delightful dinner. The chef used to work at Nobu and it really tastes like it. We ate early at 5:00 because that's all that was open for a reservation, yet we were the only 2 people in the restaurant. That's also just a bit strange. I think dining here when it's dark and candlelit would be more romantic, but I enjoyed looking around at the little house and its design and the beautiful garden surrounding it while we waited for them to open. It's also interesting to read about the history of the house and its site (it's a carefully built replica of the old original house that was here in the 1860's built by a Chinese immigrant rice farmer. Anyway, very charming. I think I'll call next time to try to get a later dinner reservation. This was one of our favorites on the trip. Service, was , of course, fast and the waiter was really nice and friendly. read more

Postcards is a cute with a beach house vibe going for it. It has indoor & patio seating. We were seated right away at inside at a round table for 4. We started with 3 appetizers. The Hanalei hummus was good served w/ nori rice crackers & lettuce. The crispy leek salad with soba noodles was tasty. And the raw fish served with peppers and pineapple had a nice spicy, fresh flavor. For dinner we had: Lamb which was decent. Not as good as Bar Acuda's lamb. The Wagyu beef was good and the fresh swordfish was nicely done. The risotto with tomatillo sauce & ricotta was delicious. For dessert we tried the Greek yogurt cheesecake. It was okay. Out of all the cheesecakes we tried over the last 2 weeks, this was the least favorite. We will definitely come back next year. It was easier to get a reservation calling the restaurant directly than trying to from online. read more

This little gem in the heart on Hanalei was such a great find! The service was great and the chef deserves 5 stars! Best steak I think I've ever had!!! The menu is creative and this house-turned-restaurant was charming. I will definitely come back again the next time I'm in town! read more

Ordered the leek salad, hummus, sword fish, risotto and pasta. The hummus and leeks were absolutely amazing, unique and flavorful. The risotto was a tomatillo sauce which was super unique and good balanced with the Mac nut vegan cheese. The pasta was boring and not great. I'd recommend skipping it! read more

Yummy food and cute vibes buuuut I feel like it's pretty over rated. We enjoyed our meal of scallops and fish. The flavors of both were really good. The portions were pretty small and the prices were high even for Hawaii standards. It was a good meal but for us, it's not a "must try". I'd be happier with a fresh poke bowl. I will give credit where credit is due and they did do a great job with the flavors of the food. For us, it would not be on our list again. read more

We are visiting Kauai, staying in Princeville. We were looking for a nice restaurant to eat at and our hotel had Postcards on the list they shared with us of open restaurants in the area. The restaurant is very cute from the outside and also inside. We were greeted by the owner, Joe, who was very friendly and personable. It's becoming rarer to find a place where you feel like you're at someone's home and not just a business where they want you in and out. We enjoyed the company and conversation with Joe. He explained that they have an actual chef and not a line chef like most restaurants have, which gives the chef the liberty to change the menu. Our waiter, Frank, was great, explaining everything on the menu. The drinks were excellent, I ordered the sangria and my friend ordered the pina colada. For dinner we had the Swordfish Milanese and it was phenomenal. Since dinner was so amazing, we decided to have dessert and got the creamy lilikoi chocolate tart, which did not disappoint! Props to the chef for an amazing meal! Since the hurricane, business has been slow for them. If you're looking for a great stop for dinner with great ambiance and friendly service, check out Postcards! read more

5 stars for the fried leek and noodle salad and the scallops, whose sauce was delicious? 1 star for the lamb that really missed the mark. You couldn't taste the herbs and the olive tapenade didn't go at all. The meat was not of highest quality. The coffee ice cream pie also missed the mark. The coffee flavor was missing completely and the microgreens did not belong there. The texture was icy and hard instead of creamy and chewy. Also it was my birthday and they did nothing to acknowledge that. The service was unprofessional. I don't recommend. read more

Cute gem! Smallish menue with amazing flavor. Ambiance - 5/5 Make reservations. Its small but you still feel intimacy with your table and eating while having conversations and not yelling over each other. If that makes sense. Service - 5/5 Incredibly friendly and attentive. Food - 4/5 Flavors that will have you coming back for more. We had the hummus to start. Do not pass on it. So good. Its just enough to split for 2. My husband had the lamb dinner and I ended up ordering the tuna tartar. We ordered an additiobal brussel sprouts (couldve been a starter too so good) We both loved our food and honestly everything on the menu would satisfy your hunger. We paired it all with s few cocktails. Nothing special but went well with our meals. Probably couldve skipped it and I wouldnt feel like we missed out if you want to save a few $$. Check them out next time youre in Princeville. Much love for this cute little spot. read more

Everything is top notch. A pleasant experience. Good food, service, and quaint atmosphere. Awarded Michelin 1 Star.

Service was great and dinner was phenomenal! We got the hummus to start with. I was skeptical at first, as I've never heard of edamame hummus, nor have I eaten hummus with a rice-nori crisp. I was blown away by the flavor of the hummus. The sesame and edamame combination was delicious. Dinner: I ordered the seed crusted lamb rack and it was cooked to perfection. The fennel was a great touch, and the whipped feta added such a good tang to the dish. I would've loved just a bit more of the feta because it was so good. My wife ordered the risotto and she thought it was amazing. She loved the hint of citrus in the dish that provided some freshness to pair nicely with the rich flavor of the ricotta. We are hoping to be able to visit once more before we leave! read more

Came here for a lighter dinner, we had made reservations ahead of time. The food was overall good - super fresh and seasoned well. We really enjoyed the Crispy Leek Salad and would highly recommend it. Keep in mind any modifications will be quite limited with their menu as we advised we weren't able to add any protein to the salads. Although the food was good; we had a less than great experience upon arrival. We were early for our reservation and waited to be greeted but only got blank stares by the staff and no one acknowledged us until someone came over and said "Are you together?" Followed by you're early for your reservation ... we had no hello or we'll be with you in a moment after waiting for about 10 mins. While I can appreciate the staff being busy - would have been nice to be acknowledged. Otherwise, when we did get seated the server we had was great. read more

Enjoyed a delicious dinner in a calm and quaint dining room served by a friendly local. Over the past ten days Bambie & I have pretty much done the culinary tour of the bigger restaurants in Hanalei. Ama and Bar Acuda were quality stand outs, but you know what? I think I like the food and ambience of Postcards the best. I've been a glutton this past week so I decided to tone it down with portions and wine guzzling. My dinner selections were the Postcards signature crispy leek salad, a small dish of hamachi sashimi and the ice cream pie. It was plenty to eat. Bambie had the swordfish. Every bite was a delight. Price wise Postcards is in the upper tier of Hanalei restaurants. I think it is a better value than Bar Acuda. If you're in Hanalei for a few days I encourage you to eat at both places. Dress nicely for the occasions. The places are not tank-top, board shorts, bikinis and flip flops in the dining rooms. read more

Postcards is a consistently lovely experience. The restaurant is small and intimate, and service is warm, friendly and informed. We ordered a bottle of wine that was recommended by our server and very pleased. The waygu skewers were nice, and the shrimp cocktail was a surprise, sitting on a bed of horseradish panna cotta and a light tomato glaze. Lovely. For dinner, Hubby had the pasta, and I had the scallops which were cooked perfectly, and sitting on a bed of squash purée that was deliciously velvety. The capper was the mango sorbet. Oh my gosh--it was amazing. We'll be back. read more

I didn't realize when I planned my four meals in Princeville, that my final meal would be the best. Tonight we dined at Postcards and it was amazing. It was better than Bar Acuda or 1 Restaurant, which we dined at on this trip. Rather than waiting in line for Bar Acuda, I was able to secure a reservation at Postcards without worrying about making it 30 days in advance. Postcards Mai Tai with Mango was super delish. Better than anything I've tried on this trip. The Golden Eye Martini was equally unique with gold color and a big ice cube. The Moloa'a Greens was an incredible salad. I loved the chia-lilikoi dressing. The Corlander Crusted Ahi was lightly seared. The presentation was spectacular with the ahi on top of a layer of green cabbage and daikon. My wife's Wagyu NY Strip was perfectly grilled and I got to eat half of it. Loved the flavor and tenderness. We finished the evening with Chevre Cheesecake which was totally unique. It started with a coconut crust and a dense and intricate body. Truly devine. Incredible meal, service and ambiance. read more

The food was just okay but the service was awful. I don't recommend this place at all. They bring the dishes and kind of just throw it at you. They don't really present what they're serving you. The waitress with the glasses barely checked in on us. I still had food on my plate and the waitress with the glasses and braid on Tuesday night 11/25 took our plates immediately and didn't even ask if I was done. She asked if we wanted dessert and didn't even say anything like thanks for coming in etc. Just overall terrible service that is rushing you out the door. They didn't explain their menu or what made each dish unique or special. Postcards, is a name that suggest it's a blend of different cuisines. They didn't even discuss the salad dressing or any sauces so how can you pride yourself and uphold your own restaurants name. I would not be back. For a place that prides itself on taking inspiration from different cuisines around the world they have no pride in the culinary dishes they are serving and no customer service. read more

Pulled up to a cute converted, well preserved 1864 plantation house which is now Postcards restaurant. We arrived slightly late for our reservation by like 7 minutes due to rain but were seated right away on the screened in lanai porch. Paul was our server. He was nice, gave us recommendations when asked and took our orders! Wait times were fairly quick for the food. I had the coriander crusted ahi with the polanquito to drink and my husband had the market fish which was swordfish and an old fashioned to drink. For dessert we had the chèvre cheese cake garnished with butternut squash! Everything was super delicious and extremely fresh! Portions were on the smaller side and my husband's drink was made incorrectly which they fixed immediately, no problems. There was also an extra unidentifiable charge when brought to Paul's attention he promptly removed so no issues there either! We made small talk with a lovely friendly couple at the neighboring table who happened to be from California like we were but on vacation. Their food looked amazing too (seed crusted rack of lamb and 10 oz. Wagyu N.Y. steak) and they said both were very tasty! Would most definitely come back here and highly recommend it to others! read more

Postcards is one of our absolute favorites restaurants. The menu is not large...neither is the restaurant...but the choices cover a lot of culinary ground. The food is inventive, and presented beautifully. The flavors are often blends that are unique. We recently had scallops, and swordfish, along with the crispy leek salad. Delicious. The staff is also top notch. We were seated in a small screened in lanai...a place that is more intimate. Again, a favorite. read more

A fine dining experience that used locally sourced ingredients expertly and artistically expressed by a creative chef. Set in a more than 100 year old building, we were amazed by the food and attentive, friendly service. Highlights were the watermelon/tomato gazpacho, Marlin crudo, and pasta with pistachios and pea tendrils. The house Mai Tai was delicious. We enjoyed chatting with the nearing 90-year old founder/owner. We hope to return. read more

Man I do not get some of the 2 and 3 star reviews of this place. Some people seem to want to have a bad time in paradise. It's a cute little upscale place that IS super expensive (like a lot of stuff on the island) but the quality of food and service was high, the server and host were attentive and we were happy with the food. Like everyone said, the leek noodle salad was delicious, the green and pear salad with the lilikoi dressing was nice, and the swordfish was very tasty. The pasta was good, although the risotto was a little on the thin side for me. The sorbet was the best dessert. Did not try any of the meat based dishes, so I can't comment. If you're looking for a nice sit down restaurant meal on the north side I recommend. read more

What a charming little spot! Located in a historic cottage building this restaurant serves up ambiance along with great food. We sat in a tiny screened in porch that felt private and allowed some nice views of the sky during sunset. My husband really enjoyed the vintage Mai tai (it was very good, and I'm not a big Mai tai fan like he is). We split the roasted Brussels sprouts, I had the pasta for my entree and he ordered the chicken special. Both were fabulous and perfect portions! Service was attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back on our next visit to Kauai ! read more

Charming little spot with easy and plentiful parking. We arrived without a reservation and the weather was nice enough to sit on the outdoor covered porch. Service is friendly if not a little formal for the islands. We started with the leek salad and had the pasta and the daily fish (ahi) entrees. All were delicious and well executed with good portions. The passionfruit sorbet for dessert capped off a thoroughly enjoyable meal. I'd say Postcards is by far the most upscale dining spot in Princeville/Hanalei. read more

Postcards Restaurant is another must-stop to enjoy a world-class meal while in Kauai. Located in Hanalei, I recommend reservations. There is a mix of seating inside, partial deck, full deck, or on the lawn. While the windows and doors are wide open, the restaurant runs fans and air conditioning to keep the temperature cool, making the dining experience enjoyable. We were promptly greeted and seated. The selection of entrees has something for everyone. I enjoyed the verde risotto with a light spoonful of ricotta, adding a creaminess to each bite. Our party also enjoyed the Wagyu NY steak, the Corriander Crusted Ahi, and appetizers like the Yellowfin Tartar and Crispy Leek Salad. Each dish was a surprise and delight with each bite. The food was scrumptious. Our friends return here year over year during their stays, and we will be adding it to our tradition as well. read more

So far our favorite tasty food higher end restaurant in this area. They make great but expensive food. Example scallops were 5 of them over puréed carrots for $48. We loved this place! The menu is small but delicious. Everyone was very nice and the service was great. We started with the traditional Mai Tai, that they are famous for. Not as sweet as some, which was really nice. Also, they used a nice rum and it was so smooth. Probably the best Mai Tai I have had. We both got the market fish, which was a grilled Mahi. It was perfectly grilled and seasoned, so juicy and falling apart. The cauliflower purée was so delicious, a little garlicky. The roasted cauliflower was just okay but dip it in the purée and it's really good. For desert, we had the vegan chocolate something. It was like a chocolate cheesecake with a coconut macadamia crust. There was a raspberry reduction. Soooo good! We sat inside because it was a little breezy but they have a nice porch (sunny) and also a covered porch. Inside was nice, not too loud. Would definitely return! read more

So...last year we went to postcards and we loved the food. This year it was the worst dining experiences I've ever had. I guess the Chef is a bit of a Diva. DO NOT ask for any modifications to your meal. I asked for the swordfish, just with broccoli. I got a boiled piece of swordfish, with a huge bloodline and two broccoli florets, sitting on a bed of broccoli stalks. It looked horrible, tasted horrible and compared To my friends swordfish atop whatever it normally came with, it looked like it was taken out of the trash. So i definitely got the Middle finger from the chef. My other friends meal was so salty, he couldn't eat it. I can no longer recommend Postcards, which we were originally so happy to recommend. Very childish behavior on their part, and our waiter could not have cared less. read more

Great local restaurant, amazing food, and joyful staff. Having dinner on the patio just made the evening that much more enjoyable.

Such a gorgeous experience!! We tried to book online but we were met with "unavailable" for the times we could go. I decided to call the restaurant and see if there was a "waitlist for cancellations but the phone just rang. Much to my surprise, a day later Joe called me back and apologized for missing our call. So, I called back and voila!!!! We got a reservation and we were in for dinner @ 6. Free m the first greeting to the final check, everything was top notch, professional and a very pleasant experience. My husband had the most amazing swordfish. The thickest cut we'd ever seen. I had the Golden Cauliflower and the entire plate, presentation and taste was pure heaven! Too bad we had to leave the North Island before they open again. The food, drinks and desert were perfectly perfect and patience wins all the time. Thank you Joe, Greco and all the staff for your professionalism and hospitality. Aloha until next time. read more

**Absolute Perfection-- A Kauai Must-Visit!** We visited Postcards Cafe three times during our stay on the North Shore, and every single experience was unforgettable. This gem isn't just a restaurant--it's a warm, welcoming haven where every bite feels like love on a plate. The Wagyu steak (Rangers Valley Australia with carrot-ginger fondant, glazed Ali'i mushrooms, and Hibiscus Dolce Forte) was hands-down the best we've ever had--tender, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was divine, from fresh appetizers to decadent desserts. You can tell this place puts intention and heart into every detail. All the dishes were absolutely delicious!!! Special shoutout to Alexis and Merari, who made us feel completely at home with their warmth, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality. Merari would remember our names and is so kind and wonderful. Alexis also crafted a chocolate martini that was out of this world--easily the best I've ever had. All the drinks she made were excellent!
