We had a couple of items from here. *Local Catch of the Day with pineapple salsa *Ribeye steak *Truffle fries *Ribs *Pina Colada slushie *Lava flow slushie *Mai tai *Passionfruit martini *Ice cream pie *Lumpia cheesecake *Kalua pig sliders *Chicken wings The local catch of the day was an ahi tuna steak which was overcooked, however the pineapple salsa was very good i really enjoyed it. The ribeye steak was asked to be done medium however in some parts it seemed like it was medium rare/rare. The steak sauce surrounding the steak made up for it but it was nothing too special. The truffle fries were the best part of the whole dinner experience. The fries were cooked perfectly golden brown and are shoestring fries. The truffle and parmesan cheese really made these fries shine as they are crunchy and soft on the inside with that hint of cheese. The li ribs were overcooked and hard. The sauce is good but i would definitely skip out on this. The kalua pig sliders were also another favorite dish of mind they tasted soft and juicy. The chicken wings were cooked to perfection and i really enjoyed this as well. We also had several drinks from this establishment as well but the ones that truly spoke out to us were the pina colada and lava flow slushies. They tasted very sweet but also had a good amount of kick towards it in the end. The passionfruit martini was also refreshing but did have a slight bitter taste to it. The mai tais were not the best i ever had but they are okay. Now we get onto the deserts. The lumpia cheesecake was very enjoyable. It was very crunchy on the outside and very soft and gooey in the inside. The kauai ice cream pie was overwhelmingly sweet. I would consider it if you love very sweet desserts but it was not for me. Some nice things to know is happy hour from 5-6pm /9-10pm and they usually have $5 off snacks & $4 off cocktails/drinks. They also have very soothing live music events during those times which could really set the mood. I loved the atmosphere this restaurant puts out. Is it the best restaurant on the island ? Probably not. But it's reasonable priced and the amount of food you get is a good price. Consider this place for good drinks and bar food while listening to nice music in the background. read more

We came here for dinner on our first night in Kauai and it was pretty nice. It's more convenient than anything so we appreciated not having to leave the resort on our first day. They had live music which was really cool! The food and drink is on the expensive side. Cocktails are in the range of $13-16 and small appetizers are around $15-18. They are shareable apps so we ended up getting 3 to try. I loved the seared ahi and the ahi sashimi and my husband loved the sliders. Also has a beautiful view of the resort. I came here to have some dinner and decided to order the Wagyu burger. While I waited, the sun was setting and the live music was playing. It was a chill environment to unwind and relax after a long day. You could sit anywhere you were comfortable and we chose a spot where you could see the pool. I went back upstairs to refresh a little and while I was away, my friend had ordered my Wagyu burger medium well and they got the same thing. After I returned, we were still waiting for our food, which was okay because I had only been gone for 5 minutes. However, when we did receive our food, my burger was very well done and theirs were medium well. It was different than theirs and you could see the char on mine. I immediately went to let the server know and apologized and she said it was no problem and that there was nothing to be sorry for and said they will remake my food. I was happy that she was so nice about it. When I got my food, it was better. It shows that their commitment to providing customer service is on point. I really appreciated it. Loved happy hour (both of them!) with drink specials and $7 pupus/ small plates - all of which were really delicious. Also enjoyed the live entertainment each night, relaxing views, great way to unwind in the evening. Stayed at the resort for 5 nights and gave the restaurant/bar a chance. We never eat at resort restaurants because most time the food is mid (meh). We are foodies, but our expectations are reasonable. We were also drawn in by the live music and hula, which was amazing. Kudos to the performers. Ordered the spareribs in plum sauce at Shutters. It was NASTY. I think the sauce had turned since there was a heavy vinegar taste and the ribs had been cooked a while before and reheated. I ate one half of the 3 ribs. I ended up having some stomach issues the next morning and I'm confident it was from the ribs. The comical part was when the server came to clear the table and bring our check she clearly observed the remaining ribs and asked if I didn't like them. I let her know that something was wrong with them. She replied with "you must not be a plum person" and charged us for the ribs in the end. This made me laugh and didn't bother going into more detail with her. Along with this interaction and her lack of engagement throughout the dining area it was clear she was not meant to be in the industry and no conversation is going to fix that. It is sad to still see the impact COVID has left in service industries. Point is there are a ton of great restaurants in Princeville, Lihue, Wailua, and Poipu. Grab a drink at the bar to enjoy the live music, but go outside the resort for food. read more

You just never know if your hotel is going to have good food...so when it does, you have to rave about it a bit. This is the bar/lounge at the Kauai Beach Resort located in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii. It's not the fanciest resort (it's no Four Seasons or St. Regis), but it has its basic resort amenities -pool, spa, gym, food. Located right off the main lobby. There is Nightly music! A nice touch and a bit loud if you sit inside, so we opted to sit outside where we could still hear the music and hear each other. It was perfect for us. Service - our server was gracious, kind, and hospitable. Food was fast considering the lounge was about 75% full. Food was perfect. I don't always give resort restaurants a "perfect" remark. The shrimp was crispy, perfectly seasoned, succulent, and I could each this every day (we're here for two more days, might have to sneak in another order). The Caeser salad was basic, nothing out of the ordinary. The tempura spicy ahi roll was good. A little too much rice smashed in between everything, but perfectly fried, sauces were good. Overall, we had a nice evening and I recommend this hotel bar/lounge for ambiance, service, and food. read more

Waited 20 min to be seated. Bartender made sure to not make eye contact when he walked by us. The Busboy cleaned tables and we were finally able to seat ourselves. Sat for another 15 minutes before server acknowledged us and said she'd be right with us. That took another 15 minutes. Ordered a hamburger and the veggie quesadilla. (I've been a vegetarian for 32 yrs.) The people who were seated after us, were served and finished before my plate arrived. I eagerly took a bite and immediately knew something was off. They served me a fish quesadilla (which isn't even on the menu.) I'm allergic to fish and immediately spit it into my napkins. I notified our server I was given fish and I was allergic. She brought me water and asked if I still wanted to order. Duh! I'm hungry! My boyfriend finished his meal before my waffle, veggie quesadilla arrived. (Seriously, how long does that take.) When we were given our bill I asked if the quesadilla was being charged and the server was like "yeah!", that's when I asked for a Manager and she said they wouldn't do anything about it..... we gave her our credit card, when she came back, she said the manager deducted it. . The appetizer never arrived but dinner did..didn't like my drink well specially told the serve I wanted a sweet drink.. but it was sour.. We got bitten by mosquitos.. I requested Eleana (the girl who was seating ppl) to move us inside but she said ppl are coming in five minutes for that table.. but it's still empty and we are done with our dinner. waited an hour for the appetizers we told the server to get them to go.. after an hour she charged us for the stuff we didn't even order and brought the check. I was staying at the Outrigger and was too tired to drive to grab dinner after flying in after dark. Decided to give this place a try. Service was friendly and attentive. I was served right away. Looking at the pictures on Yelp, I had planned on getting the Ahi sushi roll. But it wasn't on the menu. Neither was a lot of other things that were on the menu in the past based on the pictures on Yelp. I didn't want anything super heavy and was craving something healthyish. I settled on the rice bowl with Ahi tuna. The good news was it was indeed healthy. Unfortunately it didn't have a lot of flavor. It was literally a bowl of (soggy) rice, kimchi, bok choy, and a block of ahi tuna. No sauce. The tuna was actually pretty good sized but way undercooked (it had a barely white thin later on the outside and really raw on the inside). I did ask for seared. And I've seen prior reviews stating that they overcook Ahi. Seems like maybe they went all the way to the other extreme, but it tasted fresh so I ate it anyway. The kimchi was the only thing that had any flavor in the dish. I had to ask for soy sauce to dress up the rest of the dish a little. It would have been so much better with some furikake powder and maybe some wasabi mayo. For the price it was a decent amount of food, but it was just kind of bland. read more

We ordered the catch of the day twice (amazing!), the burger (cooked to your preferred temp), and sushi roll. The only reason I'm knocking a star is because although the sushi roll was very well made (good rice, good presentation, good sauces) there just wasn't enough fish in the roll - think: sand dollar sized roll with dime sized fish. Other than that, highly recommend! We also ordered several mai tais, which are worth the trip themselves! Come with foam, but are not too sweet or syrupy. read more

I got just to the restaurant before happy hour started 8:28 (local time). Happy hour is from 8:30 to 9:30, drinks and appetizers. So we go to sit outside, me, my dad and sister, where there is two large groups of people, these people constantly order drinks, the waitress constantly brings drinks and food to them while completely ignoring us in plain sight. 20 minutes later we are sitting at the same table outside, no service what's so ever, so we move inside to hopefully get noticed and order appetizers. We once again wait 10 minutes, until eventually a hostess brings us glasses of waters and tells us someone will be right with us. At this point it is roughly 9:00, at this point the waitress finally gets to us and puts our order in, 3 items from the appetizers and 1 beer, the beer comes quickly, the food not so much. Everyone around us is getting their food left and right, two people sitting next to us got there after us, and got their food before us, ordering nearly identical things... Our food eventually arrived around 15 minutes later and we finished it quickly, leaving nothing but minimal crumbs, at this point it is around 9:20, happy hour is almost over. Now we wait to order dessert, once again we wait very long, to the point one of us and asks the hostess what is the holdup, the hostess eventually directs the waitress over to us where we order dessert to go because it was taking so long and to ask for the check. At this point we are frustrated due to the wait, waiting more then 20 minutes for our dessert to finally arrive, during this period we did not get our check, refills on water, or even a check up to make sure everything is okay. By the time they came with the food there was no check, when we finally got the check around 9:45, we were charged full price for the happy hour items since the check was written after happy hour was over. At the very end of this the servers gave us no money off, made us pay full price, and gave us terrible attitude like it was our fault for the inconvenience, as well as nothing in compensation for the extremely long wait.We were out of there by 10:00 in the end with food to go, the pies we ordered were melted, not to mention it was my birthday. Overall the service was absolutely horrible, I wouldn't recommend going here, the food is very good but not worth the time, money, or effort. This restaurant is inside the Kauai Beach Hotel & Spa. We didn't feel like going out somewhere else, so thought we'd try it. So glad we did! The food & drinks were delicious! I had a fish dish (I wish I could remember what kind of fish it was - so great - but it was a special, so not on the regular menu). Our service was wonderful, as well. The ambiance is nice since there is live music and you get a view of the grounds, but the service is not good. My husband and I had ordered a hibiscus margarita three times in a row. The first two times, it tasted great, but the third time tasted like we were drinking a tequila shot. We had asked one of the servers for a remake, which he gladly agreed to, but the remake still tasted just like a tequila shot. Finally, we asked our older female server to remove the drink off our tab, since the drink was going to taste bad. She responded by saying, "well, it's tequila so it's going to taste strong," and then proceeded to complain to her coworkers about us. My family and I opted in today so we tried the restaurant inside our hotel. Ambiance was pretty, there was live music and it kinda felt like a nice intimate dinner. Service was meh. 1.Soon as we walked in it's "open seating" so we chose an empty table but it hasn't been cleaned yet. 2. Their menu did. It reflect what they had here on yelp, they did not have the Hawaiian pizza nor the sushi they had on the elevator posters. 3. We ordered calamari as an appetizer and it came out with our foods. When we asked the server if the appetizer was coming out, she sarcastically said "she only had two hands" very professional . 4 the calamari was cold and very hard/chewy. Regardless we ate it since we were hungry and for the portion of it and price we did not want to waste it. 5. The aloha rice bowl was not what I expected it to taste. I feel like the veggies that came with it did not compliment the sweet taste of the kalbi ribs. The veggies were sour like it's a sauerkraut. 6.They automatically add 18% tip on the check so MAKE AURE YOU CHECK IT to avoid extra tipping. On a positive note, the dessert was good, we got the mango brûlée which was perfect balance of sweetness, and the lumpia cheesecake was also good. Will not come back tho. read more

I stayed at the Kauai Beach Resort for a week. I ate dinner at Shutters a couple of times. It's a decent establishment. I would give it a solid 3.5 stars. Mai Tai: alright, this place serves the fruit juice version of the drink. I personally prefer the 1944 version (with orgeat syrup). Wine: a generous pour for the price. Definitely getting my money's worth. Tempura shrimp: delicious! Portion slightly small. Kahlua pork gyoza: delicious! (Also wish portion was slightly bigger) Kahlua pork quesadilla: delicious and decent portion size! Margherita pizza: baked on an herbed focaccia bread, it's well flavored and perfectly crispy. Conclusion: It was a decent place to eat (more affordable than the resort's restaurant), but if you have a car, I would recommend eating out. There are so many places around that have delicious food. But overall, I learned which foods are better bang for the buck (wine and quesadilla/pizza!). Hope this helps future tourists get value for their dollar here! read more
