The site of day 4's lunch, Kauai Island Brewing in the Port Allen area of Eleele is the original location of the popular microbrewery based in the island of Kauai. My wife and I specifically came to the area to sample their beers and try their food, and found the beer to good/great while the food was OK. It opens at 11 on weekdays, and we arrived soon after, so found street parking easily. We were some of the first customers, and our choice of inside seating. The building is two stories, with the upstairs being used as an arcade (classic 80's pinball machines). The large bar is the center of the downstairs, and they sell shop memorabilia as well. Tried a 4 sampler flight (no discount for flight, just sum of the 5 oz beers chosen). Their most popular is the Lilikoi, which we had just tried at a restaurant a couple days before, so we skipped that. Instead we got: Chupa lager (Mexican cerveza which was refreshing), Wheat (which was my least favorite...kinda flat/limp with little flavor), Alaka'I Stout (my favorite, creamy and almost chocolatey), and a Sour with calamansi (which my wife liked the best, I thought it tasted like a shandy). As for food, we got two entrees. My wife got the Kalua Pork Sandwich ($22): pretty much all pulled pork sandwiches are called Kalua in Hawaii, no matter how it is made. That being said, this version was OK with the fries being very good (similar to Five Guys fries, fried in peanut oil maybe). I had my favorite: Loco Moco ($22) which was well prepared, and the white rice was good. But the beef patty was mediocre (tasted like a standard preformed food service patty from frozen...it wouldn't have stood out in a burger). Finally made it to the main brewpub in Port Allen after a few meals at Koloa. First thing to say is...it's worth the 15 minute drive from Poipu to Port Allen, this home base for KIBC is tops. I think but am not sure that the menu has more here. Definitely the service was 100%... the beer was served nice and cold and the food was delivered piping hot as it should be. Happy hour from 3-5, discounts on pints and pupus. My wife and I made a good meal out of the happy hour menu: Crab cakes, a 7 oz steak, onion rings and lumpia (crab and shrimp egg rolls). I really wish our experience would have been different. We visited after a whale watching tour so we were hungry. We did visit at about 6pm and were seated immediately but we were only a party of 2. This place is right across the street from all the boat tour companies so that was nice but besides that, meh! The lumpia had some weird, fatty hard pieces of pork. The fish was interesting, it was more of a chicken texture than fish. Fish was also dry and needed lots of lemon and tartar sauce to help it go down. Nice brewery with full bar and what looks wonderful food. The squeeze and I split an order of pork and shrimp lumpia. Great job on those. I chose the NaPali pale ale to drink. This beer is malty, love it! Got a 32oz crowler to take back to the mainland. Brewery decals were $1 a pop, should be free, especially when I buy beer and food. Cute spot, good beer, food was decent, and really appreciated the fact that they customized it for us! Got a tshirt because it's awesome I can now say I had a beer at the western most brewery in the world. We didn't get food but it looked really good! The beer was good. We drank Napali Pale Ale and The Fonz. The pale ale was nice and the fonz was very hop forward. Cool experience! Like this place a lot. Theres a strip of area with some restaurants near the pier for boat tours. We checked it out because we saw some of the reviews here. Ended up loving the food and I wish I could come back and try lots more especially their beers! When we were coming back from the boat tour, one of guides said that she didn't even like beers and she loved the different type of beers here. I had the poke bowl and love the freshness of the fish. My husband had the fish tacos and they were really good too! If we're back on Kauai, we wanna come back here and get our beer on! read more

This brewery is located next to Port Allen and has a decent size patio. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. The service was very friendly and kept up with our orders. We can here for happy hour and got lots of good appetizers and drink specials. The beer here is fantastic and very fresh. It's a great price during happy hour. The appetizers were very good and filling. After you go on a sail with Captain Andy's or if you are in the area, we recommend you stop by this place for some great comfort food and awesome beer. My favorite brewery on the Kauai, the beer was great and so was the service and food. We decided to stop for a beer and a t-shirt at Kauai Island Brewing. The place is crowded, but there was seating available so we decided to have dinner. I ordered the Seared Ahi Salad and my guy got the Fish & Chips. We both ordered different beers so we could try them. My daughter absolutely loved the fun vibe of the place and French fries. Our waitress was super nice and was busting around keeping all the tables happy. The shirt I bought my BF is probably one of my favorites because of the logo and design. I kept asking to go back all week, as it was a place we all enjoyed - but we had places to explore and food to try. read more

Stopped by here to grab a bite to eat after going on a very adventurous Napali Coast Catamaran Tour. There was live music, which was a nice treat. The food was very tasty and was priced reasonably. Service was good, and we were glad we stopped here. Given the location, this is a great place after doing an excursion. There's outdoor seating in their patio but we opted to sit inside so we could watch the game, enjoy some drinks, and munch on some food. There was plenty of parking in front of the brewery. He said they both were delicious, the fish was fresh and the tacos were packed with flavor. I chose the Pulled Pork Sliders. The pork was super lean, tender and oh so juicy. Served with a fresh and crispy slaw, house made barbecue sauce and house cut fries. Every bit was scrumptious and I would have that dish again and again. Maybe we went on a bad day but I thought the service was not good. When someone finally came to take our order, they told us half the menu is wrong. It would have been helpful if the host or menu told us to look at the board. They don't make several beers anymore and several had run out. Reprint your menu! Someone brought the wrong beer by and our server seemed really frazzled but nice. When we got up to leave she was like, "did I bring your check!?" Fried food was very greasy and oil tasted a bit old or well used. The lumps had great flavor inside and the dip was delish! The chicken sandwich had grease all over the plate, but was otherwise juicy and enjoyable. Our friend who ordered the kahlua sliders enjoyed them and had no issues with hers at all. Highly recommend the fresh catch of the day either as a sandwich, taco, fish n chips or on a salad. Today's fresh catch was mahi mahi. So fresh....it was not fishy at all. Their French fries are also fantastic. Perfect crisp and seasoning. If you like try their brews.... they have sampler sizes. Perfect for non-beer drinkers like me dat like try without ordering a full size. They also have other cocktails, seltzers and non-alcoholic beverages. I highly recommend the lilikoi iced tea. We were looking forward to stopping by this local brewery in Kauai (this one is the worlds western most brewery, or so they claim), and it did not disappoint! We sat at the outside bar, which had wonderful views of the ocean. They also have ample parking, and indoor & outdoor seating! To start out, we ordered the KIBC Koloa Rum Tai and a beer flight with 3 IPAs and 1 coffee stout - my were the beers and rum delicious! I am not a typical big stout fan and even the stout was very tasty! We ordered the onion rings as an appetizer and they were crispy and fried to perfection (paired perfectly with their homemade chili guava ketchup). For entrees I ordered the Kalua pulled pork bowl, which came with their homemade slaw, rice and a very generous amount of pulled pork and BBQ sauce. He even took requests. We ordered a couple of beer flights. 8 different types, of 5oz for $3.50 each or $28 a flight. Plus a few extra 16oz beers. Gosh there were so many options. Jameson shots were $9 each. Needless to say my night was a bit of a blur. It was all good times though. Food was alright. We had smoked meat pizza, poke, fish and chips, basket of fries, pupu steak, and pan seared mahi mahi. The fries went well with the beer. Drinks and food came out at a reasonable amount of time. We ordered the crispy chicken sandwich, the fresh caught mahi-mahi fish and chips, and the fresh caught mahi-mahi fish tacos. We ordered one grilled taco and one battered taco. The grilled taco was definitely the best! We also ordered the kalua pork nachos, they came in a bowl with all the ingredients piled on top & the meat was bland. The nachos should have been served on a plate as there was no ingredients or cheese at the bottom of the bowl & only plain chips. The nachos were a disappointment but the rest of the food was delicious. They had a good selection of beer & all were tasty! Make sure that you check the time. Server said it was happy hour pricing when we arrived, but after we ordered, she said happy hour was still 15 min away so we had to pay full price. Not cool, but I should have checked the time and not relied on the server who was not wearing a watch. Burger is still great and got more fries this time so that was a plus. The nachos are still a pass - a hard pass. This is the third time that I have tried them and they are not good. I really want them to be good. Beers are great. Burgers are great. Fries are great. My fave! Pillow Talk Hazy IPA will make your tastebuds so happy. Go after 3:00pm and get you a pizza! They are delicious. One of my fave places on island; we eat here a few times a week. Staff are always friendly and I love that they can express themselves and not look like cookie cutter humans. Doesn't matter if you sit on patio or inside-- you gonna have a good time.
