Shenanigans is a great place to unwind with some really great appetizers and entree's especially if you are on a budget or just want to chill. Absolutely one of the best views in the furthest western states of America. The sunset was nice cold one just sets the right Aloha mood. Forgot to take pictures of the shrimp appetizer but it was good....trust me I'm in sales.

When traveling with my retired Air Force in-laws, we have the luxury of getting access to places like this. The setting is stellar- right on the deserted beach. The food is pretty basic but it's really good. I had the fantastic Anahola burger and a nice cold beer. A perfect lunch at a very reasonable price. Such a great outing!

I ordered a cheeseburger (well done) with French fries and a side of ranch dressing. What I got was a cheeseburger cooked medium (medium rare in the very middle) and no ranch dressing. Needless to say, I am pretty disappointed because the first time I ate this burger it was cooked perfectly; my food has definitely not been the same since that one day. Two stars for the fries being good and the awesome customer service.

The only good thing about this place was the view ! We arrived on a Friday and were so hungry for lunch. The menu was adorable it had a funny chicken joke and it was either pay and order your food or pay and buffet style. I had a burger that day and I don't like much red in my meat and the fact that it wasn't well cooked was enough for me not to eat it. The waffle fries were not my favorite. Nice place to stop by and try out maybe other foods are better! Only place on base to eat so worth checking out eventually if you're In the area.

Great place, drinks are good! Reasonable prices and wonderful atmosphere. Definitely going back when I am there next (need military access)

Right before the pandemic the hubs and I took a lil trip to Kauai. The restaurant is located on a military base in barking sands so military ID is required. If auntie Nadine reads this then we can both laugh at what happened at Bellows lol. I believe barking sands is now requiring paperwork to your car rental in addition to ID. Due to Covid the bar is closed at Shenanigans, but they are offering takeout service. When precautionary measures start to ease up, and the restaurant opens, its a great place to view the whales(seasonal). The sunsets are insane and the food is very very good;) We ate at the bar when it was opened. The hubs and I ordered the Kauai garlic peel off shrimp without the head *upon request which was our appetizer. The shrimp was sweet, thick, fresh, garlicky, and delicious. Next, was wings which are one of my favorite foods to order. It's usually best with a side of beer;) The wings were deep fried perfectly making it crispy and meaty. Buffalo sauce was ordered on the side to limit the sogginess. The hubs had the rib-eye steak and oh my gosh.... it cut and melted in my mouth like butter. So ono!!! It was seasoned well, and was accompanied with vegetable medley. Overall great dinner experience!!! Even though dining in options are scarce, and change daily, weekly, and monthly dependent on where you are, takeout is an option. Check this place out if your able to get on base:)

My wife and I specifically came to the area to sample their beers and try their food, and found the beer to good/great while the food was OK. It opens at 11 on weekdays, and we arrived soon after, so found street parking easily. We were some of the first customers, and our choice of inside seating. The building is two stories, with the upstairs being used as an arcade (classic 80's pinball machines). The large bar is the center of the downstairs, and they sell shop memorabilia as well. Tried a 4 sampler flight (no discount for flight, just sum of the 5 oz beers chosen). Their most popular is the Lilikoi, which we had just tried at a restaurant a couple days before, so we skipped that. Instead we got: Chupa lager (Mexican cerveza which was refreshing), Wheat (which was my least favorite...kinda flat/limp with little flavor), Alaka'I Stout (my favorite, creamy and almost chocolatey), and a Sour with calamansi (which my wife liked the best, I thought it tasted like a shandy). As for food, we got two entrees. My wife got the Kalua Pork Sandwich ($22): pretty much all pulled pork sandwiches are called Kalua in Hawaii, no matter how it is made. That being said, this version was OK with the fries being very good (similar to Five Guys fries, fried in peanut oil maybe). I had my favorite: Loco Moco ($22) which was well prepared, and the white rice was good. But the beef patty was mediocre (tasted like a standard preformed food service patty from frozen...it wouldn't have stood out in a burger). The one egg was cooked well and I really liked the homemade gravy. There is a 3% credit card surcharge, and Toast is the payment processor.

If you're just looking for a quiet place to sit and eat, though, it can get a bit loud, nothing against the live music, just something to keep in mind depending on what kind of dining experience you're looking for. The ahi nachos were a bit disappointing for us. The ahi itself was fresh and tasted great, but the "nachos" were actually more like fried wontons instead of traditional nacho chips, which felt a little odd and just wasn't really our thing. It would've helped if that was disclosed on the menu or if the server gave a quick heads up beforehand so expectations were clearer. On the positive side, the Tempura Ahi Bites were our favorite dish out of everything we ordered, definitely the standout item for us. The rib plate was also decent with satisfying portions overall.

Maybe we caught them at a bad time, but the food and beer were mediocre at best. I enjoy trying local beers as close to the source as possible, so going to local brewpubs is something my wife and I try to do regularly. It was our third day in Kauai, so made this our lunch choice, and we were hungry after a long tour. There was plenty of parking in the dedicated lot, and it wasn't too busy when we stopped in after 1:30 on a Wednesday. We were greeted promptly and got to choose where we sat, in a picnic table with plenty of space. Chose two house draft beers: Honopu Hefeweizen ($9) which was not good...very weak and watery. But the Hanakoa Cream ale was worse ($9)...chose it because of a local cream ale from Wisconsin that I love. But it tasted more like a glass of lite pilsner, more like a Miller Lite than a cream ale. I had to finish both...should have just ordered one. The food came out a bit later. We wanted to share the local Style Smoke meat plate (sounded promising), which was a plate of pork shoulder ($16). Plenty of it, but it felt like leftover meat, reheated in a sugary sauce...looked and tasted like Tocino (which isn't my favorite), not like pulled pork/kalua pork. It came with a scoop of white rice. I got the spicy Poke ($19) which used good quality raw ahi tuna. It had lots of tasty, spicy mayo and was enjoyable. But the rice was not cooked well (it was mushy), and I had to ask myself: why has the rice been so mediocre for our first two days? (It got better as the trip went on). My wife got the Huli Huli Veg & Rice plate ($25)...not good. Just two pieces of chicken breast meat (coming from frozen) with a very light sauce (flavorless) and the carrots were big chunks, candied, which is not what we expected. Brought most of this back to our hotel (since we had a fridge), but neither one of us touched it for the rest of the trip. Pricing is inconsistent (the chicken plate should have been the cheapest item considering the ingredients and prep work). Payment was done through Toast, and there was a 3% service charge for using credit card.
