My husband and I decided to come here for our last night in Kauai after we found out our luau was canceled due to the weather. Napali Brewery did not disappoint and filled our bucket last night! Sign off the main road caught our eye while heading north for a tour, so circled back later for a late lunch. Maybe we caught them at a bad time, but the food and beer were mediocre at best. I enjoy trying local beers as close to the source as possible, so going to local brewpubs is something my wife and I try to do regularly. It was our third day in Kauai, so made this our lunch choice, and we were hungry after a long tour. There was plenty of parking in the dedicated lot, and it wasn't too busy when we stopped in after 1:30 on a Wednesday. We were greeted promptly and got to choose where we sat, in a picnic table with plenty of space. Chose two house draft beers: Honopu Hefeweizen ($9) which was not good...very weak and watery. But the Hanakoa Cream ale was worse ($9)...chose it because of a local cream ale from Wisconsin that I love. But it tasted more like a glass of lite pilsner, more like a Miller Lite than a cream ale. I had to finish both...should have just ordered one. The food came out a bit later. We wanted to share the local Style Smoke meat plate (sounded promising), which was a plate of pork shoulder ($16). Plenty of it, but it felt like leftover meat, reheated in a sugary sauce...looked and tasted like Tocino (which isn't my favorite), not like pulled pork/kalua pork. It came with a scoop of white rice. I got the spicy Poke ($19) which used good quality raw ahi tuna. It had lots of tasty, spicy mayo and was enjoyable. But the rice was not cooked well (it was mushy), and I had to ask myself: why has the rice been so mediocre for our first two days? (It got better as the trip went on). My wife got the Huli Huli Veg & Rice plate ($25)...not good. Just two pieces of chicken breast meat (coming from frozen) with a very light sauce (flavorless) and the carrots were big chunks, candied, which is not what we expected. Brought most of this back to our hotel (since we had a fridge), but neither one of us touched it for the rest of the trip. Pricing is inconsistent (the chicken plate should have been the cheapest item considering the ingredients and prep work). 4 stars because the beer is excellent, and the service is very good too. The food is, 'OK.' If I were to rate this on food alone it would be 3 stars (which on Yelp is literally 'OK') The layout and tables are awkward. We were there when it was not busy, but it seems like you would need to share tables during their peak times. We had a poke bowl, Waygu burger and some pork sliders. The Waygu burger was juicy, but not flavorful. The poke bowl was pretty good, but it seemed like it was not perfectly fresh fish. Not scary, just a little late in the day perhaps. The pork sliders were boring. The pork had a slightly smoky taste, which I very much enjoy, but the smoky taste was suspiciously like the flavor profile of Liquid Smoke rather than a truly smoked pork. We also tried the beer cheese with pretzel bread. Meh. They need to add sea salt to the bread crust, and the cheese was sort of boring. **Perhaps if they looked up the recipe Sierra Nevada publishes for their beer cheese they would {vastly} improve this particular item.** A giant pretzel might be more fun than the bread, but obviously harder to share in a group. The beer was great - I especially enjoyed the Hamajang IPA. Although the table configurations suck, they hire some truly enjoyable entertainment. So in the end we had some good beers, some decent food and a nice musical treat. It completely salvages the otherwise bland atmosphere, instantly makes the place feel the awesome local Kauai vibes. The beer helps that too. Will I go back? Yes - if it's convenient for me to get there. Do I recommend it? Yes. At this price point it's what I would expect from a little independent brewhouse with a small kitchen. It's not a fine dining experience, it's bar food. Food was definitely not the best in Kauai. Plus food seems to come out as it's prepared. My husband ordered a burger and I ordered the Taro burger. His came out before mine and I waited a good 5-10 minutes for my food to come out. BUT the Mai Tai was one of the better ones we tried( the macadamia nut simple may have been the winning ingredient). Great spot to enjoy a beautiful setting and really good food! In terms of atmosphere and presentation, this is easily one of the prettiest places we visited on Kauai. We ordered three burgers and one fish & chips. The burgers were cooked exactly how we asked, which I always appreciate. The fish & chips were just a little on the dry side, but still decent. The beer, though, was excellent. The only thing that bothered me a bit was that we were charged extra for sauces that came with the meal, and no one mentioned they were an additional charge. It wasn't a huge amount (about $3), but it's just nicer to be told upfront. Overall, we had a really nice time and would definitely recommend this place. read more

Food and service was great! I tried the Lanikai Sletzer and it was very smooth and not overly sweet. We also tried the Burger sliders, I think the burger needed to be seasoned a little more other than that it was very delicious. Fish and chips were delicious and perfectly cooked, spring rolls were freshly made and nicely crispy, the smoked meat which is made locally. I really don't like being critical of places -- especially when you can tell people are genuinely trying. That's why this one was a bit of a tough call between four and five stars. We came in on a Monday around 6 PM. Service was excellent from the start -- attentive, friendly, and well-paced. You feel welcomed, not rushed. Big plus. The food was good. Everything was cooked properly, and the kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. The burgers were cooked exactly to the requested doneness, which I always respect. Fish and chips were solid as well -- crispy, well-balanced, no complaints there. That said, I'll be honest. I've eaten a lot of burgers in my life, and while this one was good, it wasn't one of the best I've had. Not bad by any means -- just not a standout for me personally. The menu overall felt a bit limited, and I found myself wishing there were more options to choose from. Atmosphere is where this place really shines. Live guitar music, a beautiful interior, relaxed island vibe -- it all works. We were a group of four, spent around $205 total, and considering the drinks, burgers, and overall experience, the pricing felt fair. So yes -- I'm leaving five stars. The service, atmosphere, and overall experience deserve it. At the same time, if I'm being completely honest, next time I might be curious to try a few other spots as well. We always look for a brewery wherever we go and this was not far from where we were staying. We were greeted and seated quickly. They have a good selection of beers and standard brewery food. We decided on a flight to try some of their beers to find a favorite for a pint. They also have cocktails and wine. They have a good selection of Pupus. We ordered the Kalua Pork Sliders and Brussel sprouts. Service was a little slow but there was only one person when we first got there. Unfortunately they were out of the Duck Wings which we wanted to try. The Brussel sprouts were quite greasy but the sliders were good. Great spot that welcomes both tourists and locals. The staff is attentive and promptly seated us. The night we went had live music. The place has a friendly and lively ambiance. We started off with guava mules. It was not too sweet and strong enough. To eat, I tried the pulled pork sliders. Usually this is a heavy dish, but it was well balanced. Meat was very tender, simple, and tasty. For dessert, we ordered the ube cheesecake. It was pretty sweet and rich. Good to dish to try, but maybe not order again. This place is great if you are looking for a beer and are hungry! I tried the Mac n cheese with bacon and smoked meat- it was amazing and well priced, 10/10! The beets were very good as well. They have a cocktail and a mocktail menu and lots of seating for big parties. They had live music going as well. Service was very nice but forgot about us once a rush came. Our party of five arrived and had no problem finding a spot in the large shared parking lot. We had just come from dinner at another place but still wanted to check out the brewery. We were greeted and seated quickly, and the atmosphere was exactly what we were hoping for. There was live music playing that added a fun energy to the night, and the performers were genuinely entertaining. Our server was kind and took care of us right away. Since we weren't hungry, we only ordered cold beers, which hit the spot, but the food menu looked great and definitely something I'd want to try on a return visit. The one brew I chose to check out during last summer trip to Kauai due to seeing Helles lager on the menu. Open seating and a beautiful bar in an airy high ceiling space made for the perfect spot to chill. The live music added to the leisure atmosphere. But the best part was a local customer who came into pick up his food, ended up taking up the mic to sing with the band playing over the rainbow, tossing in happy father's day in between the song. What a talent! The bartender Hillary was the best you could ask for, so cheery, so happy, and so attentive. She was enjoying her work and making customers feel so joyful in the process. The overall experience was that of warm Ohana, authentic place for locals and tourists alike, no pretense, so real! This place isn't just a brewery, it is it's own happy Hawaiian experience, so grab a beer or few and give it at least an hour or two to absorb the warmth and joy of the island! I believe live music is supposed to be 6~8pm, music stopped at 8:15pm that day. Beer wise, - The Helles was bright and refreshing perfect for Kauai, but maybe not as sweet as I was wanting. More for hot day time drink. - The Local boy lager had a little more layers and was better. *** But the MUST HAVE here ended up being Black Pot Lager! I'm not a stout type fan which I thought this may be, but this Black Pot Lager was just AWESOME... Not overly chocolate nor coffee, it wasn't heavy, just perfectly drinkable and delicious! Popped in here last week with the family to grab a bite and a beer. The server was awesome..forgot her name but she is a big Seahawks fan (boooooo! Go Niners! lol). She was by far the best part of our experience. Super friendly and welcoming. Moving on... I was shocked when we were given our orders of Ceviche. Over $20 each for what looked like a tablespoon or two along with four "wonton" chips to go along with it. Seriously??!!! I get jacking the price up a bit for tourists but wow...outright ridiculous. The Mai tai my wife ordered was "meh" and once again, massively overpriced for what was received. Ambiance was great inside. Guys, you need to either reprice your menu 50% from what it is or triple the portion sizes. Way way overpriced for what you get. Until that happens, we won't be back. Their food menu had a plethora of appetizer options and some entrees which looked pretty good but we just weren't super hungry. Their beer selection was relatively limited (5-6 beers) with a focus on light, refreshing malty beers. Each pint is $9 for you can get 4oz pours for just $4 each. Pints are more cost effective imo. Beers were enjoyable. Seating was open so we sat ourselves. Service was mediocre. We were visiting my son and his family in Kapaa and I wanted to take him to lunch, so I asked him to pick a place. He wanted to go to Napali Brewing and stated he really liked their food. When we walked in it had a nice feeling and nice decor and were greeted by staff. Everything looked good on the menu, so it was hard to pick, but decided to split the Ahi poke, brussel sprouts and fish and chips. All were excellent, seasoned well and I wouldn't have changed a thing. The staff were very attentive and made sure we were happy.
