I've been to the Kapa'a location and Kīlauea. I do prefer the Kapaa location more, though they have the same menu. To me, regarding the menu, the Kenji burgers is where it's at. I think visitors to the island should experience it like you would a Bobs BigBoy or In and Out. It has a unique flare that you can only experience there. Many locals go too as it's good, fast and the Kīlauea spot has a bar. Not sure about other locations as I don't drink and don't notice. read more

Happened upon this location while staying in Kauai for eight days. We had the Kenji bowl, which is an elevated version of Loco Moco. Bowl was tasty enough. This is a fast casual set up. Which in my opinion was a little too fast casual. They expect you to know the rules of how to order and what you sit right when you get in there without ever experiencing a Kenji restaurant before. A simple question have you been here before would've been helpful. Seating was plentiful and environment was comfortable. Just a little disappointed on the overall service. With as many choices that you have when they are, I probably won't go back here. read more

We went after a round of golf and were starved. Everything tasted great but the portions are small. You order at the counter, take your number stand to your table and they bring out the food. You pick up your own drinks at the bar. We had the Tokyo wings, a chicken katsu salad and chicken katsu sandwich. All were tasty, the chicken cutlet on the salad was a tad dry as it was an extremely thin piece. The dressing was like a sesame ranch. The lettuce seemed to be Boston or Bibb type of lettuce which was nice but otherwise it was a tad boring with ac few avocado slices and only five or six grape tomatoes halves and nothing else to it. The chicken sandwich was much more tasty with a spicy slaw on it and a slightly thicker chicken cutlet. The wings were the best thing but at $3 a pop it seemed too expensive. The sauce on the wings was a garlicky soy. They have about six or seven tables of four outside and some seats at the bar. read more

I also ordered the kenji fries and would recommend getting just the regular fries - the added toppings were unnecessary IMO. Service was good and prices reasonable for the area. Loved loved LOVED my truffle burger and fries! Didn't get the sauces for the fries cuz I figured it was enough calories as is with a draft beer, but so yummy! The vibe is chill but I bet it can ramp up quickly. TV's outside and in but not intrusive. If I had more time I'd check out the sushi burritos, bowls and salads. While waiting for my coffee in Kilauea, I spotted Jenji Burger and remembered hearing good things about it. Decided to give it a try and walked over to the walk-up counter to place my order. They also had seated service available, but I planned to take mine to-go. The lady at the counter was kind and friendly as she took my order. I went with the Truffle Burger and furikake fries. The sign out front noted that they use 100% Kauai grass-fed beef, which was great to see. I took the food back to my room, and it must travel well because it was delicious. The burger hit the spot, but the real standout for me was the furikake fries--packed with flavor and seriously addictive. I'll definitely be returning to try more of their menu. read more

Kenji Burger! With local Kauaian beef! I didn't know what to expect when I came by here, but we decided to go, especially because we heard so many people talking about it. The service was great! The mosquitos were ever-present, so we ended up taking our food togo, but everyone was very nice to us! Ambiance-wise, it felt like a very local spot to hang out. I was happy to be taking in the vibes. We got our burgers, and an order of fries, and we were on our way. We gave the burgers a try, and they were, not bad, but certainly not as delicious as they sounded. The flavors were good enough, and I was happy to eat the burger anyways. Turns out local Kauaian beef is pretty similar to other beef. The fries were decent enough, too. Standard fried potatoes in stick-format. Not much to say there! Would I come back? The menu has a ton of options. We tried the Hapa burger, furikake fries, gyoza, wings, and a Japanese roll. Everything was fresh and delicious. The burger especially stood out. My wife and I decided to have dinner here, as we were in the mood for some decent food in a casual atmosphere, and the menu looked appealing without being overpriced. We were rewarded with entrees that we absolutely loved. I ordered the chicken katsu sandwich, and it was probably the best breaded chicken sandwich I have ever eaten. It was literally that good. My wife ordered the misoyaki fish bowl, and she was over the moon. I can't say enough about the food here, and you get a decent portion for the price. The fries are good, too. The staff was friendly enough, and the atmosphere is primarily outdoor seating unless you want to sit at the bar. You order at a counter, and the food is brought out to you. They sell some pretty cool Kenji Burger T-shirts if you're in the mood. My only criticism? The aggressive feral chickens, which seem to be less fearful of people in Kilauea than in any other place I've been to on the island. (In fact, an adult chicken charged at my wife across the highway at the miniature golf course and scratched her leg a couple of days prior.) I kept shooing them away, but Kenji Burger might do well to put water spray bottles on each table, like an establishment across the parking lot does. Seems to be very effective at keeping them at bay. We loved our experience at this restaurant and almost can't wait to return to Kauai to have another meal here or at their location in Kapa'a. This was a solid find. We needed something late in the day and had a reservation for dinner. I had the 3 tacos which were a perfect snack size meal. The gyozas very flavorful and great fry. The fresh catch on a salad had a great mix of fresh and pickled veg and a burger for our pickiest water was a win. First off food was excellent! Very great burgers and poke bowls. My ratings as a 3* is the staff at the Kilauea location. Not certain about why, but as tourist, I felt ignored. The bearded bartender and cashier were very friendly to the locals but ignored us besides taking our order..... I dunno if this is the way Kilauea shows Aloha or maybe its because of my race. So just be cautious and not expect great friendly service here, good thing the cooks and food is delicious read more

Not a bad spot to grab a drink and a burger. The burgers are decent. Really flavorful, but a little messy. I should have expected it given it said " Topped in Japanese sauce" My fries weren't crispy which was a bit of a disappointment. The furikake topping was a great flavor profile, but the texture of my fries didn't help. Cocktails were ok. $15 a lil high for Well vodka drink, but not out of this realm. I'd probably check out other burger spots to try on the island before I would return here, but it's not a bad Burger to give a try. read more

We tried the new location in Kilauea in the Ahuimanu Shopping Center. They have a full bar and nice covered outdoor seating. I had the Hapa burger. It was great! While visiting Kaua'i to spend some time with the grandchildren we ate at "home" most days. But our final day on the island we had to check out before 10 am. No more "home" food for us. Our 8 year old granddaughter had been begging for hamburgers, specifically Kenji Burger. Trying to be the typical grandparents who spoil, we had lunch here. By far the best restaurant food we had during the whole trip. The food was quick and wonderfully tasty. The staff was super attentive and were super kind to our grandkids. The four adults had burgers, three Kenji burgers and a Hapa burger. Excellent burgers. The youngest wanted a burger, which surprisingly was giant for a keiki menu item. The other kids, including the hamburger craving 8 year old, ordered chicken katsu. So much for a burger. Ha! The special furikake french fries are almost worth the trip to Kaua'i on their own. The seating is limited and open air, so try after the lunch rush to avoid waiting to sit. Also, enjoy, but don't feed the chickens. read more

A good spot for burgers and sushi burritos in Kapaa. They have a variety of grass fed beef burgers and fish and vegetarian options. We stopped by for a late lunch and got the Hapa burger and the lobster burrito. You place your order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. They've been featured on Diners Drive-ins & Dives and with good reason. The Hapa burger contained some delicious pineapple slaw which gave it a distinctly Hawaii flair. The lobster burrito contained a few pieces of lobster and imitation crab meat in a sushi roll and spicy mayo. Both dishes were enjoyed, and the portion size made them ideal for lunch. read more
