"Momma kitty" their adopted cat who lives in the tree next to the outside area.

Loved loved LOVED my truffle burger and fries! Didn't get the sauces for the fries cuz I figured it was enough calories as is with a draft beer, but so yummy! The vibe is chill but I bet it can ramp up quickly. TV's outside and in but not intrusive. If I had more time I'd check out the sushi burritos, bowls and salads. Bartender was super sweet especially with the kitty that lives in the tree next to the restaurant. She comes for her dinner nightly. Full bar, nice happy hour drink specials. A great stop in Kilauea!

While waiting for my coffee in Kilauea, I spotted Jenji Burger and remembered hearing good things about it. Decided to give it a try and walked over to the walk-up counter to place my order. They also had seated service available, but I planned to take mine to-go. The lady at the counter was kind and friendly as she took my order. I went with the Truffle Burger and furikake fries. The sign out front noted that they use 100% Kauai grass-fed beef, which was great to see. I took the food back to my room, and it must travel well because it was delicious. The burger hit the spot, but the real standout for me was the furikake fries--packed with flavor and seriously addictive. I'll definitely be returning to try more of their menu.

For Kauai this is good food. Compared to mainland USA this is about an average hamburger as it can get. Service was a little absent minded - they totally forgot that we paid and ordered a beer. The environment of the business was okay - when we went there was a dog barking the whole time.

Food was superb! Service was fast, server was polite and the ambiance nice. Will come back when we go to Kauai again.

Pretty good food especially the chicken katsu bowl and the chicken katsu sandwich. Comes with a nice Cole slaw. The highlight is the Furikake fries. So good. We sat outside and had enough room. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you.

My wife and I decided to have dinner here, as we were in the mood for some decent food in a casual atmosphere, and the menu looked appealing without being overpriced. We were rewarded with entrees that we absolutely loved. I ordered the chicken katsu sandwich, and it was probably the best breaded chicken sandwich I have ever eaten. It was literally that good. My wife ordered the misoyaki fish bowl, and she was over the moon. I can't say enough about the food here, and you get a decent portion for the price. The fries are good, too. The staff was friendly enough, and the atmosphere is primarily outdoor seating unless you want to sit at the bar. You order at a counter, and the food is brought out to you. They sell some pretty cool Kenji Burger T-shirts if you're in the mood. My only criticism? The aggressive feral chickens, which seem to be less fearful of people in Kilauea than in any other place I've been to on the island. (In fact, an adult chicken charged at my wife across the highway at the miniature golf course and scratched her leg a couple of days prior.) I kept shooing them away, but Kenji Burger might do well to put water spray bottles on each table, like an establishment across the parking lot does. Seems to be very effective at keeping them at bay. We loved our experience at this restaurant and almost can't wait to return to Kauai to have another meal here or at their location in Kapa'a. Definitely give them a try!

I had a sushi "burrito" which was pretty good. My husband had a burger which he said was maybe average. Nice environment & staff was very friendly.

    Kenji fries

Bought the Kenji burger with fries. Burger was nicely flavored. The arugula, nice thick slice of tomato, and caramelized onions matched well. Beef was really tender. Fries were okay, quite salty with the sauce. Wish I didn't get the sauce with fries. Would come again and try to truffle burger and fries (w/o sauce).

Best burger ever! My new favorite. Beef is a cut above everywhere else. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The sauce that came with it (not sure what it was!) was SO good and paired perfectly with the wedges. My husband ordered the taro burger, and we both loved it -- it ended up being his favorite vegetarian meal on Kauai! So we pulled up to Chicken In A Barrel BBQ around 6:30 PM on a Thursday, and honestly... it hit the spot in the best way. We ordered the 1/2 Chicken, the #3 Baby Back Rib Plate, plus a full order of fries and a side of ranch. Total came out to about $50, which felt totally fair for the amount of food and how filling it was. The ribs were my favorite part -- smoky, meaty, and not dry at all. They had that real BBQ vibe without being drowned in sauce. The chicken had a solid char on the outside and stayed juicy inside (which is not easy after a long day when you're eating fast and don't want to mess around). Fries were crispy and salty -- exactly what you want after a hike like that. This place is simple, casual, no fancy nonsense -- just good BBQ that makes you feel human again. If you're on Kauai and you've been hiking all day (or even if you haven't), this spot is absolutely worth it. We left full, happy, and already talking about coming back again.

Most dishes come with Chili, which has pork in it, but you can substitute for onion rings - which were much better. I would always do that, if I were you. Fortunately, on this visit, the staff was engaging and helpful. The previous day was some little kid who didn't know anything about the menu. But hey, family members help out in a pinch, I guess. You're in Kauai after all, so yes, we had a torrential downpour while eating. Luckily, we were under their non-leaky outdoor dining area. Added to the Kauai vibe. Only downside was listening to the teenagers who work at the shave ice place, vent as loudly as possible, about one of them is already at a crossroads in life. Geez, "slow yourself down", kid.
