One of three McDonald's on the island of Kauai, this location is in Lihue, close to the airport right off Kuhio Highway (the main thoroughfare on the East side). My wife and I were hungry after arriving into Kauai after dinner time, so wanted something quick and easy before we checked into our hotel. It was good. It's humid in Hawaii and with the inside being well air conditioned, there was a thick layer of condensation on the windows, making it hard to tell if the dining room was even open or not. But it was, so decided to dine-in. I used the McDonald's app to place and pay for the order, entering the table number. Otherwise this location is automated, with 2 large kiosks taking orders. The food came out pretty fast in a takeout bag, with my name and table number being yelled out loudly (guess they don't do table delivery here, which is fine...though wish they would not offer it on the app in that case). My mood brighten greatly when I realized the large fries ($4.99) had been freshly cooked. The buy one, get one for $1 still applied here (if done on the app) so got two double cheeseburgers, one for $4.19 and the second for $1. They now have a mini McFlurry available, so got the OREO flavor for $2.99 (really hit the spot since the soft serve used was really good and we liked how the oreo cookie pieces were finely crushed), and added a large Diet Coke ($1.99). Pretty confident it will be the cheapest, filling meal we will get during our trip. read more

Yes it's true... when traveling with your kids and your favorite Mother-in-Law to Kauai, you best expect a few requests for fast food. So after spending the day on the East Side of the Island, the kids were hungry so we stopped off at McDonalds in Kapa`a. From there, while in the car traveling back to Poipu, maybe it was the smell of the French Fries or maybe it was the sip of coke she took from the kids drink, but suddenly my Mother-in-Law, aka Mema to the kids exclaimed... "I'm kinda hungry now, can we find another McDonald's?" Thankfully, McDonalds are strategically placed on Island and I knew exactly where to go: McDonald's in Lihue! So we pulled into Lihue, went straight for the drive-thru and got Mema her Big Mac for $7.99!!! What's better than apple pie? A freshly fried pie from the only state that still fries pies!! Apple is a staple but I wanted to try something different and opted for a taro fried pie! They arrive piping hot so proceed with caution. This is probably the reason why the rest of the union doesn't have fried pies. The taro pie was delicious. Perfectly sweet and filled with perfectly diced pieces of taro that were tender. I'm glad I tried it. Apple pie was also favored. I'd love to try guava pie next time! Conveniently located throughout the island. We stopped for reasonably priced local breakfast combos, pancakes, and hapia pies. The service was welcoming and quick. It's a McDonalds like most McDonalds: busy drive through, few people inside, mostly clean, and competent workers. We got our Egg McMuffins quickly. They were hot and good. We sat in a booth watching the drive through line stack up, and move quickly. We had to ask for water refills as the beverage station was cordoned off - employees only. I'm not going to complain about the staffing shortage here. It's everywhere. The staff, I believe, is mostly doing their best. (I hope.) In fact, the last two times when they got my order wrong... But then, the other day, I'm standing in line, waiting for my mobile order, these guys are slammed, and the customer in front of me picks up his five orders, then asks for barbecue sauce. The woman (who looks like a manager) charges him!! WTF??!! She actually slowed down her productivity (while in the weeds) to insist he pay what 26 cents (or whatever it is) BY CREDIT CARD!! All I can say is FRIED HAUPIA PIE and FRIED APPLE PIE. I havent eaten McDonald's in decades. I stopped with all major fast food joints way back then. But McDonald's locations in Hawaii still have the crispy apple pies like we had back when I was younger. My grade school and HS days often ended with that crispy, hot inside that'll burn your tongue, fried apple pie. It's so good. I dont know why McDonald's on the mainland stopped selling them. Having eaten them for the first time in decades brought me back for sure. They are so good. We made sure to have some every few days while on Kauai. The Haupia pie was totally new to me. Last time I was in Hawaii (Oahu - 2014) the Mcdonald's near my hotel in Waikiki didnt have them or the taro pie. I was so bummed. My friends always talked about how good they were. FOMO. Fast forward to July 2019, I finally got to try and they were better than I expected them to be. The coconut custard goes great with the crispy flaky pie shell. So good. The meat tasted real (yes well, we never liked it cause it tasted like real pig right?) but it seriously tasted like actual rib. Sorta. 2. The Haupia Pie..... well let's first say I've had many dozens of McDonald's pies at many locations and about 2/3rds of them are over cooked (heated) and are hard and disgusting. The other 1/3rd are good. Well this one here has the most perfectly cooked crust EVER. Super crisp and bubbly exterior, just the right amount of crunch. Super moist inside. Holy mutha. Disaster of a McDonald's. No integrity or due diligence. Charges credit cards for additional items that were never ordered by customer and doesn't cancel orders when requested. Went for a breakfast pre-flight back home, the drive through wouldn't move for over 15 min. We decided to get out of the car and order in store. After I ordered at the kiosk in store, the kiosk never gave me a number. When I inquired with the person at the front she said she was new and had no idea what was going on and to wait for her manager. When the manager arrived she asked for my order and said I was the fifth order. When asked how long it would take she said 15 min!!! This is fast food not slow food, I get food at a sit down restaurant faster than this. When I told her to cancel my order she said as long as we don't pick it up we wouldn't be charged. That is a lie. We didn't pick up our food instead went to airport. I am now reporting a dispute on the charge as the service paid for was never provided and we were told would be canceled. We went a few days prior after landing in Kauai at night. We ordered three Mcchickens and three small fries. When we got our order and looked in the bag we had three small fries and six Mcchickens. and ended up with three more Mcchickens. When we looked at our receipt we realized the person taking our order took the liberty of charging us for three mcchickens but also bogo for one dollar for six. We were charged an additional three dollars for three mcchickens we never ordered. Regardless of the amount that is fraud, as that is not what we provided authorization for. We assumed it was a mistake however the preflight experience confirms the lack of integrity and due diligence of this establishment. read more

The management seems to have no backbone, they do not seem to care. The rude & obnoxious & dishonest employees seem to be running the McDonald's crooked house. I have called their complaint toll free number at 800 244 6227 on October 17, 2023 at 2:14 pm & the lady answering said they will look through the video & follow up with the employees & also with me. Well, they have not as of yet. So, it clearly shows that they do not care for the customers at all. When you call that number all they do is just say what you expect to hear that they do care. Yet, their actions show otherwise. The manager who was working, I spoke with, his name was Jacob If I'm not wrong, was friendly and seemed to try to show he cared however it seems like he wasn't able to control his annoying and dishonest employees. They got out order wrong and didn't want to fix it and then accused us of ordering it wrong even though we showed them the receipt showing what we ordered and how we ordered it The lobby employee is mean and rude and creates an unpleasant dining experience. Not good at all. Was catching a flight back home to Oahu and stopped here for a quickie before we return rental and head to the airport. The woman at the front couldn't speak English. I had to repeat each item back to her 4-5 times slowly. She also repeat it back to me twice each item, and I watched her punch it in the register. She took a really long time and had no personal skills. I thought it might be a cultural difference but also thought geez this is McDonald's and front cashier should definitely speak and understand English well. At one point I started to wonder if she was purposely being obnoxious because it was so unbelievable. When our food came out we were missing 1 happy meal, 2 meals, and a chicken sandwich. I couldn't believe it as I had repeated each item 4-5 time, listened to her repeat it twice or more, and also punch it in the computer or so it looked like she did. Manager came, my husband was pissed. They also had their dining room closed at 6pm on a Sunday and only their employees was eating in it and they said we couldn't eat in there. This place was ok. I rarely come to this location for dessert, but I just decided to stop here to get my mcflurry fix and tried their butterfinger mcflurry. It was ok, but most of the topping was on the top and it wasn't really completely mixed all the way through. The bottom half was just ice cream with no butterfinger.
