    Special island treats

Food was as expected with a few island treats. Love their pies are still fried! Service was drive thru only at 7am and it does not state that anywhere. We were planning to sit inside but wound up eating in our car so I can't rate ambiance.

McDonald's is bad for you but unfortunately it makes up lots of my happy childhood memories. I remember Sunday mornings, right after church service, heading to Lihue McD's. Oh the memories! Spending the afternoon jumping and playing in the McPlayground. All us kids would slide down the slide then grabbing a bite of our cheeseburger or McNuggets before running to the McBall pit. Wipe off the soft serve on our pants, wipe our mouth with our sleeves. Stinky socks jammed back into shoes in McCubbies. Wiping off our play sweat with McNapkins. On the ride home in the church van we'd play with our McToys and make houses with our Happy McMeal boxes, good ole McMemories. And so the other weekend, my mom requested a McOrder of everything not really McHealthy. She hardly eats fast food. Don't tell me these memories are false memories made up of dreams and stories other kids told me during recess! This can't be happening! Then I remembered, McDonald's day was always my Dad who took us out! How I still love McDonald's!

I am in awe of Karen, our cashier. She was zipping around like an Energizer bunny, filling orders for curbside and drive through while taking orders at the counter. She was pleasant and efficient. I saw someone at drive through, and another in the back and this trio was working at lightning speed between 8-8:30 this morning (3/9/23). Even though the Spam breakfast tempted us, we ordered our Egg McMuffins and they were hot and good.

Service was slow and this is a drive through only. The person. Taking the order acted like he didn't wanna be there. If that isn't a job for you then find something else. Customer service is not your forte. They don't even have any taro or haupia pies available EVER!! the fried apple pie was crunchy but barely any filling. The guava and cream pie was alright. Needs more guava flavor and it was not warm at all.

Got two large fries.. asked of they could fill them to the top they said that is there standard.... Literally the only mcdondals I have ever seen do this and this is with no fries eaten and they do this EVERYTIME!

I just ordered a mcgriddle and mc muffin and i got the mc muffin but son got a biscut through the drive through and thats not so fun because i ordered less than 10 minutes ago my son is unhappy and this is why you should order inside people

Am I giving McDonalds fried apple pie at 5 star? You bet your bottom I am!! Delicious! Hot and fresh with a nice crunch. Brings me back to my childhood. I had two while on vacation in Kauai. It's always a go to when on the island. Why oh why can't McDonald's bring this back on the mainland. If somebody is seeking out an apple pie, it's not to be healthy. Might as well get rid of the baked crap and put it in a fryer.

Taro bits oozing outta this freshly baked taro pie...yum!

Fairly not busy location. Waited 10min for that freshly baked taro pie and boy was it worth the wait! It had a crispy shell and the inside is just e right amount of taro sweetness. Yummmmm..They don't have the saimin as I had seen in another McDonald location and everything else on the menu is pretty much the standard ones. They also offer mobile order and pickup. Staff here are nice and place is big enough for family sit downs.

We ordered the Lilikoi, Haupia, and Ube malasadas -- and WOW. All of them were so good, but the ube was our favorite! Soft, fluffy, perfectly sweet, and filled with so much flavor. You can really taste the freshness. The employees were also so sweet and kind, which made the experience even better. It's always nice to feel welcomed, especially early in the morning. Another big plus is the private parking lot with plenty of spaces -- super convenient! There's also lots of outdoor seating in a courtyard surrounded by beautiful plumeria trees (and some friendly chickens walking around), which adds to the whole island charm. Such a delicious and peaceful spot to start your day -- we'd definitely come back again!

Unfortunately being from Oahu with having Leonard's Bakery malasadas, these malasadas were rather mid compared to that. The guava filling was the artificially flavored type. But other than that it was a decent/above average sweet treat. The malasadas itself I'd say was 3 stars. However, the star was the Java Chip Mocha Frappuccino. The thing I loved most about it was that the java chips were small enough where it never got stuck in the straw and was evenly consistent with every sip. By far the best java chip mocha frappuccino in my book! I'd come back for this one. It made starbucks seem mid tbh. Service was friendly and efficient. And the ambiance, though quite small it was fresh with the smell of a malasadas bakery :) Plus a few tables and plenty parking outside. Overall I'd give it a 4 stars. Definitely coming back for that java chip frappuccino YUM!!!

The toast selections alone are 5 Star! We enjoyed: -Hawaiian Vanilla Latte - half sweet was the perfect balance -Americano with steamed cream - Kauai Latte-- Maybe I don't know what I'm looking for in a Mac nut syrup but I didn't notice any unique flavors...but it was still delish. But let's talk about the TOAST! They all looked SO GOOD. I narrowed it down to two: the avocado toast deluxe or the eggy toast. The eggy toast is more like an egg salad. Even though I think any time of day is a good time for egg salad, I went with the deluxe because microgreens and pickled red onions have a hold on me. While I've had variations of this toast at home and in my hometown, I've never tried it with chili. My lips were burning a bit, so if you are a sissy with heat, you might want to opt for no or reduced sauce. I left with no regrets...except that I should have come sooner than our last day on Kauai...and I should have grabbed an eggy toast to go!

We stopped by on a Tuesday around 8:30AM and got our pick of malasadas to try out! Kauai Bakery is located in a shopping plaza with plenty of ample parking, making it very easy to stop by and grab some delicious pastries. Service is like your typical bakery, you pick what you would like and they get it to you so you can stuff your face immediately after purchase. Ambiance is cozy with plenty of pastries to pick from in the large display case. We got 4 flavors of Malasadas for $16, which is $4 per doughnut, which I think is a decent price for the size and heft. The flavors we sampled were Lilikoi, Coconut, and Guava - out of these flavors, the coconut one was my personal favorite! The flavor was exactly what I would want anything coconut cream flavor should taste, creamy texture with a pleasant coconut taste that didn't taste artificial at all. It captured the floral background taste that is missing from a lot of coconut desserts that makes coconut so pleasing to eat! The Lilikoi one was my next favorite, it had a slight tartness and a more subtly pronounced flavor - I think I was looking for something stronger personally. Lastly was the guava one, which actually tasted a bit artificial and didn't have a pronounced flavor at all, which was unfortunate. Despite this critique, I would still glady inhale 2 or 3 of them because the dough was really pillowy and really enjoyable to eat. I think that the pastries here (at least the malasadas) are very solid and priced competitively vs most things here on Kauai. I would totally come back to get several more of the malasadas as well as try the other pastry options on the menu. Stop by and give this bakery a try if you are in the area!
