McCully Union Service is a highly efficient safety check inspection site. I needed one ASAP, so I came here with its first come first serve policy--I was willing to wait a little to get my inspection done --same day. My protocol is to be first in line, so that would have been 7, but I woke up late and arrived around 7:45, whew short line! I came from the West on H1 headed East and exited Bingham/Exit 24A and took the second right on Griffith and headed to Beretania. On Beretania I could see the business and I went to the extreme left lane, as the business is on the left. Enter the first driveway just past Kemohe Lane (the second Ewa driveway is the exit). There are two lanes to line up in (see photo). I did not know the protocol, so I lined up behind the two cars ahead of me, one finishing up. A car arrived behind me and was instructed to move to the inner lane. I turned my engine off. When it was my turn Casper, the inspector asked me to move my car to the front The inspector will instruct you what to do--so no worries. Here's what to expect (and make sure it works prior to coming) First, have 1. Your car registration 2. Up-to-date insurance card. If your registration expired and is now contingent on also having a current safety check--call ahead to inquire, sorry I didn't ask. With engine on - Turn headlights on, and high beam - Turn signal--Left, right - Windshield wipers - Honk the horn Put car in reverse. Inspector goes to the back of car. - Step on the brake--brake lights Back in park - Rear turn signal, left, right - (Back windshield wiper -if you have it) Engage emergency brake - Step on brake, put in drive, release foot and put in drive, car should not move more than an inch Back in park Pop hood - checking for --fluid leaks, wire issues, corroded battery etc - Turn wheel extreme right, extreme left, straighten wheel Windows - lower all--to make sure not trapped Unlock doors - Opens all the doors Pop trunk Photo of vin number Photo of car front and back Records mileage $25 with tax $26.18. Accepts credit card Casper gave me my receipt, no signature needed. He put the sticker on. And I was on my way. Drive forward and exit the Ewa side driveway. I love this place! I never really write reviews but I've come here every so often for over three years. The amount of times I've called them just asking for general advice about my car they always take the time to explain things to me and help me do what's best for myself even if it doesn't benefit them. Very trustworthy and reliable. Today I came in with a flat tire and they had just ran out of tire repair supplies, and suggested another place since they knew I wanted it done quickly. When I couldn't get in anywhere else they took the time to call someone to bring in the supplies to fix my tire. I needed a safety check, so after reading all the positive reviews for McCully Union Service on Yelp, I decided to give it a try. I showed up right at 7:AM and there were already two or three cars in line waiting for them to open the gates. They have two "lanes" for cars to go through in order to get a safety check, and the guys there have developed an amazingly efficient system of conducting the tests as quickly as humanly possible. It's really quite impressive. Unfortunately for me, one of my rear license place lights was out, so they flagged me and had me pull to the side to they could replace it for me. While trying to get my old light bulb out, they discovered that the small assembly in which the light bulb plugs into was cracked, so they had to order that part from the dealer. The manager, Charles, is the one who explained the situation to me and said he'd try to get the new part by the end of the day so that I could go back and have them install it. Charles is a really positive & friendly guy, and he kept me updated throughout the day. As promised, he texted me later that afternoon stating he had the part, so I drove back down there and they had it installed in no time. At that time, I was able to chat with Charles more and I really got a good feeling about him - Great guy! He seems really positive and I get the sense that he takes a lot of pride in doing the best job possible for his customers. A couple of days later, my car overheated so I called Charles again. I told him my radiator fluid looked pinkish and frothy. He asked me to take a photo of it and text it to him. He said it looks like my transmission fluid had leaked into my coolant system (antifreeze), confirming what I already thought it was based on my google searches. He warned me that I should get this addressed as soon as possible, so as not to cause major damage to my vehicle, but said he was totally booked, so I asked him if he could refer me to someone who would take care of me. He referred me to Alex of Alexander's Automotive on S. King Street, who gave me outstanding service, just like Charles does, but I'll tell that story in another review. Came here on a bind on 12/29 (Friday morning before New Year's Eve) The place I go to stopped doing safety checks for some reason and the other place that's nearby would take hours and I would need to leave my car there. I called mccully union on a whim asking if they did safety checks and if there was a line. They said there was roughly 7 people and first come first served. I pulled in (this is done drive thru style) with 2 lines. It was pretty fast and they tell you what needs to be done. I was in and out within 15 mins or so and my tab was about $27. read more

McCully Union Service is located on South Beretania on the left side before McCully Street. You can't miss them as they usually have a line of cars waiting to get in for service. I pass by this shop all the time but never needed their services. It was until I ran over a screw and it was Veterans Day weekend. Many places were closed on Sunday and I was just hoping someone was open on Monday. Fortunately, McCully Union Station was open and they were open early! I called around 7:45am and they said to come down. As soon as I filled up air into my flat tire, I headed there. To my surprise, there wasn't a line. Maybe it was still early or everyone was hanging from Sunday lol. I was greeted right away and they took a look at my tire. They told me to drive up to the garage doors and immediately started working on it. Everyone was friendly and they even filled air in all my other tires when I paid at the cashiers office. It didn't take long and I'm happy that I got there before the line started. It's been awhile since I had a flat tire but for $35 to plug my tire in a few minutes was worth every penny. Especially on a holiday! Now I know where to go early in the morning the next time I have a flat. Highly recommended for friendly customer service and quick work. read more

Charles is the best. Hands down. If you have car issues or need to have your regular maintenance done or a safety check or an oil change, Charles is your man! My Lexus was due for maintenance and it was also making a strange clunking sound, so I called Charles and he told me to drop it off at 7am and it'd be ready in a few hours. He was true to his word, as my car was ready in literally 2-3 hours! After I dropped the car off, I received an emailed quote that needed my approval. As soon as I electronically signed it and sent it back, Charles and his crew got to work! All of their services are reasonably priced. Unfortunately that clunking sound was not good news and my car will need to have some major work done, but I knew it was coming based on my mileage, and Charles explained everything to me in layman terms so even someone like me could understand what's going on! Great place to procure a safety check since, among other things, they reliably have people there to provide safety checks and it appears that the wait will not be too long. Best of all is the female there, who is personable, affable, helpful and efficient. Most males at service stations are dour and understandably look like the customer is bothering them. She, on the other hand, was so pleasant that I decided to get my car serviced there the next day instead of going to a nationally franchised establishment. She was again a pleasure to deal with at the servicing. Pricing was reasonable and they give an estimate before doing work. I was so happy that I read the reviews and went there. The best safety check place that I've known for sure. They open at 7 and I got there 5 minutes before, but I shouldn't have and should've gone right at 7 or a few minutes later, because there's no place to wait until they open the gate - I was trying not to disrupt the traffic and ended up scratching the underneath of the car by riding up the side walk a bit. But the guy at the shop checked that for me real quick and thankfully there was no damage to the car. Anyway, I was the second in line and out in 15 minutes. The fastest safety check ever! This is my first time coming here as I usually go to Triple 5 for my safety checks, but reading the reviews about how you don't even need to get out of your car to do the safety checks, I figured I'll give it a try. The McCully Union Service is located along South Beretania St. It's on the left side, so stay in the middle lane since the left lane takes you to the parked cars lane. After you pass the traffic light at Isenberg St, you pass by two streets, and the entrance is right after the third street (Kemole Lane. One-way road coming out). For safety checks, it's under the canopy, so go directly there, or wait in line. There was a short line when I got there, but the customer in front of me was a disrespectful dope. When I first arrived, I noticed he was outside his car, on his phone without a mask. Next, he didn't have his insurance card, so again, he hops out of his car, mask-less, and calls his insurance company for a copy. Not sure what was going on, or why he was allowed to even wait there and hold up a line that was out onto the road. After his phone call, he talks directly to the employee without a mask, and even went inside the office the same way. Sadly, the employee had his mask dangling on his ear while chatting with him, and they were just a foot away from each other. Eventually, that maskless guy finally left. How can you come to do a safety check unprepared, or even drive without the insurance card? So careless. It shows as he doesn't protect himself, his passengers, and everyone around him. I wish the employee did a better job protecting himself and keep his mask on at all time since he's dealing with many customers and he's handling paper work, money, credit cards, and etc. Other than that, the safety check was extremely thorough. I've never seen a safety check done THAT thoroughly. First thing was the normal honk your horn, blinkers, windshield wipers, and lights. Checked under the hood as well, but not sure what he was looking at since everything is covered in there. My car was jacked up front and back to check the tires. Paid $26.18, and got my new safety check and sticker. Another good thing is they peeled off the old safety check stickers, clean the area, and put on the new one. More often than not, other places will just slap on the new sticker over the old one, and eventually, you'll get a thick stack of them after so many years. I drove my previous car for 17 years, and I think I've only had it removed once or twice. Overall, I liked the ease of getting my safety check here at McCully Union Service, and I'm probably gonna be back here next year. The guy helping me was super friendly, clear, easy to understand, and courteous. I just hope he's more on top of it about keeping his mask on when talking to customers. And that customer in front of me was inexcusable. read more

Found a great place to do your car Safety Check. Great location and fantastic customer service. They open at 7:00am & close at 4:00pm Monday - Friday so hard to me make it since I work those days. There hours are shorter on Saturday (7:00am - Noon) but more convenient for me. Tried planning to get there early but ended up going around 9:00am. It was the perfect time, no other cars in line. drive in, follow the cones, go to the left and drive under the shade. Stay in you car and someone will come out to assist you. They check your insurance is valid, car registration is up-to-date & do the normal safety checks. They are very thorough and you just stay in your car while they do the safety check. Once done you pay with a credit card, they put the stickers on and Safely Check is done. I did not get the employees name, but he was very friendly and instructed me on what I had to do. You guys heard of da drive-through McDonalds? How about a *drive through safety check inspection*? Yeah, that's how these great people do it. They've been at that location forever. I used to live near there as a kid in the 90s, and I remember that place being a cornerstone of the neighborhood just like the nearby LaunderLand II. There are long lines, because it's treated exactly like a "fast food" of safety checks. Safety checks are drive/walk-in. First come first served, and they are open EARLY at 7 AM and even open in da weekends! They have two staff workers *dedicated* to just doing safety checks for the entire day (don't worry, they rotate). They run it like a well oiled machine. You wait in line in your car, then you drive into one of the two lanes. They tell you where to stop, they tell you to do everything needed for the check. Wipers. Blinkers. Brake lights, horns, everything. They check everything else - ALL while you *stay in the car*. The whole process takes 10 minutes as long as you have your papers (most important). Bring your insurance card - have it all printed, have your License and registration out and you're good to go. Family owned and operated. The first guy you will see is most likely Charles. Tall local guy. *exudes* aloha. If you are talking to a worker who treats you good - that's him, the owner. He will remember you by name if you use them for repairs - he'll remember everything he did for your car. Doesn't need a computer to look it up either. Da computah is in his head! Seriously, stop looking around for a safety check place. Other places do it because they *have* to and will force you to make appointments at inconvenient times. I'm so happy to of found this spot for safety checks. I've been to them multiple times now and every time I've been, everyone is extremely friendly even when it's first thing in the morning and they already have a line of cars waiting for them to open. I love the way they have it set up-it is like a "drive thru" service. You literally sit in your car and wait your turn and they take payment and everything right from your car. I would imagine this being really helpful for elderly, injured, disabled, or just lazy people. They just do what's needed/required, get you in, get you out, and it's literally the fastest place I've ever been able to just show up at and get a safety done. Other places try to sell you on things or tell you things "you need" but don't really "need" and these guys don't play that game-they're just straight, upfront, and get the job done with a smile. Note: if you moved your car to other states and back to Hawaii, they are really familiar with what needs to be done for out of state cars arriving on the island too. I'd recommend to show up right before opening or at opening-you will see cars sitting outside the gate before opening, waiting to get in. Definitely feels like a mom and pop shop in that they'll say thoughtful or friendly things like saying your name "Thank you, Maria! Your car will be ready at 11." Safety check - CHECK! I came here awhile back for my safety check upon recommendation from my coworker and I surely appreciated it. Normally I go to the gas station in Manoa shopping center for safety checks but they only take appointments and it was further than I'd like to travel to for a 7am appointment. But don't get me wrong, they're great too. Anyways, came here and even though my tire was too bald to pass safety, the employee gave me a temporary safety check good for 30 days until I was able to get it changed. Everything worked out and I came back on a Saturday to get the nontemporary safety check sticker. Quick and easy!! Highly recommend! They're fast and efficient. Only walk ins but go early on a weekday and you're good to go! I love when any car-related tasks are fast and easy. They're the last things I ever wanna worry about! read more
