Since 2020, Makiki Auto Repair has maintained our two family vehicles: a 2004 Corolla and a 2015 Tacoma. I retired from the industrial trade as a mechanical, electrical, and inclined individual. Therefore, the test score is always displayed when I find an auto service or repair shop based on my instinctive assessment of the shop environment and the outcome of the service and repairs. Collin, congrats on your retirement. Thank you so much for all of your assistance and support. And to Vincent, the new owner, and the diligent team of technicians, please keep providing this wonderful service to our community for years to come. Regards. read more

I've been taking my 2 cars to Makiki Auto and today found out that it has been sold and now owned by Vincent Lam. I did a routine oil change and talked with Vincent on his story of taking over a "legacy" shop. Makiki Auto is known for the reliable, honest, and excellent service that was provided by Colin, the previous owner. It now appears that Colin is leaving his shop in good hands with Vincent. His prior experience spans over 30 years working in Dealerships and working/maintaning all vehicle makes and models. I truly believe his integrity and background will carry on with this storied auto shop. read more

I made an appointment one week out for a safety inspection and they finished the inspection promptly within 30 minutes!

I am never disappointed--honest, reliable, and accommodating. Professional and well established business in the community. Iʻve taken Lexus IS350 there for 5 years and have every confidence in Colin and his technicians/mechanics. Well spoken of by long time kamaʻaina residents. I always leave Makiki Auto feeling safe and confident that my car has been well taken care of. read more

if you want someone to care about your car like it's your own, this is the place to go. A place you go, trust, and always go back to.

Although they were fully booked today, they still got me in and were able to find out what was wrong with my car. Gave me good advice to go to O'Reilly to get a car battery and have it put in by them . So I did that. My car was back running all within an hour of leaving my house to go here. I am so glad I have called and seen them. These are good honest people. I will be back here if my car has issues. Mahalo read more

Colin is a kind person who cares about his customers. We've been going to him for years and trust his competency and honesty.

I called for a thorough tuneup because I haven't had one in a few years and I had heard such great things about this place and they asked if I had been there before. I have not, so unfortunately I was told they weren't taking any more new customers I will still give them five stars, even though I don't have first chance experience based on what everyone else has said. I wish there was a wait list. lol read more

I couldn't put gas in my car so first I stopped by Manoa Texaco where they told me they couldn't fix it but referred me to Makiki Auto. Drove over and they told me they could fix it but had to wait until Monday (this was Saturday) cause they were busy and closed on Sunday. Dropped it off before 8, was done by 2. Fixed the gas tank issue, fixed my air conditioning issue, and thankfully fixed my Check light issue that my regular mechanic told me to ignore. Fantastic service, going to bring my car here from now on (2001 Toyota Celica). read more

Went in to get a safety check. It was fast, cheap, and they didn't waste any of my time. I would highly recommend.

I had an oil change here and was given a waiting time window. They were finished an hour early and called me to tell me my safety check was expired and they could do that for me. Everything was completed earlier than expected and they were very friendly. Great experience! (2018 Murano) read more

Always helpful. Always kind. They do solid work! This spot is our go 2 spot for anything with our cars.

5 more stars for Colin and his team again he fixed my old Chevy S10 broken turn signals and safety check all in just 5.50 hrs! read more

Mirror mirror on the wall who's the fairest of them all? These guys! I usually have a friend work on my car but sometimes I no like bother. I usually go here for safety check but since I needed to fix my cv boot and they're on my way to work, I made an appointment. Everything was seamless, and fast. I know they're honest and fair cuz when I needed a cabin filter long time ago at another shop was quoted 100 bucks so I said no cuz I knew the filter cost around 20 bucks, but over here they charge only 35 after covid. Now that's fair. read more

I have been going to Makiki Auto Repair for over 5 years. Their team has repaired a number of my personal and company vehicles. Colin is an honest and reputable business man with a good staff. Their prices are much better than the dealerships. Great value and good customer service. Nothing fancy here. Just a mechanics garage that troubleshoots and repairs. They also conduct safety checks on specific days of the week. read more

Colin is a standup honest businessman. I would refer all of my friends who needs a mechanic to head down to Makiki Auto Repair.

Colin and his wife and their crew are such an amazing team!! I had my engine light come on and I went I went to autozone and O'reilly's to get diagnostic tested (for free) and it seems like my cylinders all misfired. Well at 7 am I took my car to Colin who so kindly let me get my car serviced. I got my car back with a new coil and didn't wait for weeks for an appointment! I only have one car so I need it to get to work. Thank you guys for always being the best in town!! Appreciate all your hard work. read more

Good service. Fixed the first time! Fair prices. Convenient location. Very knowledgeable.

I cannot stress enough how thankful I am to FINALLY find a reliable mechanic out here. Hands down the most trustworthy, reliable and fair pricing. I have a 2002 Honda Civic and it was time for major repairs instead of buying a new car (yes I'm quite frugal). There was an oil leak and we couldn't really figure out where it was coming from. I'm a daughter of a highly experienced auto mechanic but my dad is unfortunately back home in Saipan. So my dad told me that the crankshaft, camshaft, and valve cover gasket may need to be replaced. Also, my timing belt. So I found Colin and he actually took some time to teach me more about the problems in my car. In addition to the repairs I mentioned, Colin also asked if I am willing to replace my water pump as well and my dad was pretty impressed with that. He also tried his best to give me a very fair price to fix all of this. When my car was finally repaired, Colin showed me the parts that were replaced. I got my car the same day I dropped it off. It's also worth noting that I came to Colin after being f-cked over by another auto repair shop when I found out my master cylinder wasn't properly bled. His team fixed everything at such a fair price. I will be a regular here! and mahalo nui to Colin and his team. read more

My brake lights were on in the back of my car........ I remembered Makiki Auto because a friend takes her car there........ Colin checked and said I just needed a new pad for the sensor....... 10 minutes later it was fixed! They are so nice there and helped me, fixed the problem and off I went to finish my errands! Definitely saved my day! Thank you Makiki Auto!!! read more

Great auto repair shop! Old school shop with decades of experience of servicing both new and used vehicles. Colin will repair if possible instead of replacing whole expensive assemblies like the dealers would do. A good example is how we avoided replacing a whole windshield wiper assembly and paid almost nothing as opposed to a likely dealer charge of several hundred dollars. Colin and his crew have helped us since we came to Hawaii 17 years ago and we firmly believe we have received excellent workmanship and also saved a lot of money going there. Highly recommended! read more

Makiki Auto Repair - Auto Repair Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

this is the only place i will ever go to get any of my cars serviced (only time i go elsewhere is if my brand new car has 2yr dealer service/maintenance included) i tried other shops for things as simple as safety checks and 6month service, because it was a convenient location, but they were never as thorough. this is a family owned business, with sometimes up to 3 generations working from in the office answering phones, to the actual hands on dirty work. there is a lot of pride and care that goes into this business and how things are run. i've seen a lot of hot heads in this line of work, and techs getting frustrated with either the cars or the customers, but colin has never broke his cool. everyone is always super polite and courteous. and they help you right away, even if youre a walk in they make sure to talk to you within the first couple minutes of your arrival. you can either bring your car down to get looked at or call them to make an appointment. some times theyre super crazy busy so they might not be able to fit you into their schedule right away, but most times they can book you promptly. i always leave my car in the morning then come back at the end of the day to pick it up after its service. colin has looked at every single one of my cars now. i wouldnt trust anyone else with them read more

Trustworthy business. They always make time to service my SUV without costing an arm & leg. Highly recommend them.

Very quick and gave the breakdown to what needed to be done and what could wait They are great

I brought my 2016 Honda Civic in for the rear brakes as it was recommended to get them fixed. They called me back less than an hour after I dropped my car off to let me know front and rear brakes were fine and needed no repair. Fantastic news! When I went to pick up my car I offered to pay them for looking at my brakes, they said no need and then also checked and adjusted my tire pressure. This type of customer service is EXCEPTIONAL and is a prime example of how shops should treat their customers. I called awhile back to make an appointment and they said it would be two weeks out. Of course they are busy because when you treat customers this well they will return every time. THANK YOU so much Makiki Auto Repair and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! read more

By FAR the best repair work situation I've ever experienced was here at Maikiki Auto! So accommodating- were able to take care of my vehicle first thing when they opened when I called them. Being a young solo woman I often feel belittled/deceived when it comes to problems and prices regarding car repair. However, I am very grateful to have felt the complete opposite of this from the mechanics here. They seemed to respect my judgement with problems. Appreciate feeling that they were hearing me out while maintaining their own professionalism in solving and fixing the issue. Price was extremely fair compared to what else I've seen on the island. Didn't feel REMOTELY ripped off. They were able to repair my vehicle as soon as they acquired the necessary part. The whole situation only took a few hours. Everyone was extremely transparent and reasonable with the repair. I always feel like I have to go into these situations with a dramatic sense of toughness/prepare to try to be hustled but I did not feel that at all here. An authentic group of mechanics. TRULY a breathe of fresh air. read more

No wasting money at dealership. I and my children go here for car maintenance or mechanical repairs. We do safety there, too. Their service is even better than dealership. Price is very competitive. Easy to schedule. Highly recommended! read more

I was introduced to Makiki Auto by my wife, whose family has great opinions about this place. They've handled (and still do) all our maintenance and assessments since I first used them since 2010. We love this business, the owner and his family, and hope they will stay on for our kids to benefit from them when they become car owners. read more

First tried going to a different shop in the area and they denied to service my vehicle when I said I was providing the parts.... Then I checked yelp and decided to try Makiki Auto based on the great reviews. Colin and his guys are a breath of fresh air. They had no problem with me bringing my own parts, updated me as repairs were underway, and got the work done quickly for a good price. There was a separate issue that I asked him to look at and his guys spent some time trying to resolve it but couldnt quite get it perfect so he didnt charge for the labor time they spent on it even though it was much better than when I brought it in. unreal right?! Very glad I went here and Ill be taking my business here for my safety checks too. 10/10 read more

If there was 10 stars, I'd give them one. I always make sure to book an appointment with them in advance because they can get busy, especially around the safety check time and regular car maintenance . I have been taking my car here for 5 years. They do great work and are honest. My car was a pretty old and when I needed some pretty major work done, I wasn't sure about the expense based on the age of the car and the expense. Colin said I will treat it like it were my own car, and he did when he could have done more that would have been more expensive. I had a different problem and circumstances forced to take it to another shop where they tried to sell me an extra $800 worth of work that I didn't have done and it was never a problem. There's nobody on the island I trust more more with my car. read more

Feels like family! Fast & friendly service at affordable prices! I won't be taking my car anywhere else.
