    Wine tasting!
    Alex K.

Awesome place with amazing service! We had the best time wine tasting here, Lamar was our server and he made our experience super special he had great knowledge about the wines and was very fun to talk to! Highly recomend this place and ask for Lamar!

If you're looking for a really good red wine, try McClain Cellars.

This was our first visit to Solvang & McClain Cellars. We learned a lot about the wines & had a great time with Cornelius. So much so that we went back every day of our stay to see him. After the 3 days we spent in Solvang, it was unanimous. McClain Cellars was our favorite. Thank you Cornelius! You made our trip unforgettable. P.S. On our last day, Cornelius introduced us to Sebastian at the Buellton location. We look forward to seeing him on a return trip.

I had a stellar experience with my girlfriend. We both opted for tasting flights. I had the Laguna Wine Flight and she had the Reserve Wine Flight. The staff there were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable not only on wine but on other alcohol. After hearing that it was my girlfriend's birthday, we were treated to an extra glass of complimentary sparkling wine. Definitely will be back again.

I'm sure there are a ton of tasting rooms in the central coast... This place just sort of stands out yes the wines are very good and a ginormous variety for a boutique vineyard but the service and the circuses and every little thing about here you should make it stop that you're in the Solvang area.

Gorgeous space - creative, artsy, family friendly, and attentive to every detail. Loved meeting the owner by chance. You can tell he loves the biz and he makes wine for his customers. Supporting black owned businesses is a great way to invest my money. Oh, and the wine and popcorn were FANTASTIC!!!!

This was our first visit to the winery. Con was super friendly and very knowledgeable about the wines and really listened to what we like and don't like. He picked the perfect tasting for us. The grounds are super cute and comfortable to sit and relax and enjoy a afternoon of tasting or enjoying a glass of wine. They have a very nice selection of wines for everyone. I particularly loved the sparkling rosé, it was very crisp and light. We enjoyed our visit so much we joined their wine club.

What a great experience. Awesome wine. Our host Valeria was super knowledgeable about the wine, the labels and the stories behind each. So entertaining. We stayed much longer than we had planned as she made the experience so enjoyable. Thank you all the way from Virginia. We will be back!!

Until this visit, I've always had a positive impression. Last night, our group purchased drinks from the Sideways Lounge and sat in the outdoor fireplace area. One member of our group was smoking when an employee approached us and rudely told us smoking wasn't allowed there. That wasn't the issue--we would have gladly complied if the policy had simply been explained respectfully. Instead, we were interrupted multiple times while trying to ask why there were no signs indicating the rule. The employee repeatedly responded, "Well, I'm telling you now." He then told us to go outside the fenced lounge area--even into the parking lot--to smoke, despite posted signs stating that alcohol cannot leave the lounge area. The interaction felt unnecessarily confrontational and inconsistent. Businesses absolutely have the right to enforce their policies. Customers should also expect to be treated with courtesy and respect. Unfortunately, this one interaction overshadowed an otherwise enjoyable trip. After years of staying here and recommending the property to others, I no longer plan to return or recommend Sideways Inn for future golf and wine weekends. I sincerely hope management addresses the customer service issues that led to this experience.

After walking in and passing the host stand, a server who was seated at the bar got up, walked us to a table, and suggested we sit on the loveseat. The host was friendly and welcoming, and the space itself seemed promising. We were excited to settle in, have a drink, and check the place out. The restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived, but shortly after we were seated, a larger group came in. From that point on, it felt like we were completely forgotten. The server focused on the larger party, taking drink orders and delivering beverages as more guests from their group arrived. Meanwhile, we sat waiting without any acknowledgment. Another group of ladies was seated nearby and appeared just as confused about who was helping them. We both work in the restaurant industry, so we understand that larger parties can demand attention and that things don't always go perfectly. We tried to be patient and give the team the benefit of the doubt. However, after waiting more than 15 minutes without anyone checking on us, taking a drink order, or even acknowledging our table, we decided to leave. What made the experience especially frustrating was that the restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived. We never felt welcomed beyond being shown to our table, and ultimately it felt like our business wasn't valued. Hopefully this was just an off night, because the atmosphere and concept seemed like something we would have enjoyed. We'd be willing to give it another chance, but first impressions matter, and unfortunately this one missed the mark. Sadly, it looks like we definitely missed out on the famous Bowl for Two.

Upon checking in, we were told that the lounge & bar would be closed all weekend. This was a bummer, it is one of the reasons we booked the hotel originally. When we got to the room, the smell was awful. It smelled musty and moldy. We opened the window and turned on the air, that helped not one bit. So, we asked for a different room. They accommodated this request quickly, which was great. The hotel advertises electric vehicle charging stations. While this is true, they are NOT the fast charging ones, rather they are the type you install at your house. This means charging can take several hours. Thiscreates an annoying backlog situation - no one is going to sit around for hours while their vehicle charges. Inevitably, you go into town and return when you're ready, at which point your car is either still charging OR it has finished charging, but is now taking up a charger that might be needed. No one is going to run back to the hotel to unplug and move their car. Also, there are only two chargers and they are in the tightest, most inconvenient location in the parking lot. When I opened my trunk to put my bags in, the trunk lid HIT a large pipe running above the parking spot. They need far more chargers installed if they're going to advertise this amenity. When we returned to the hotel on our first evening, we got ZERO sleep. For one, the AC is very, very loud and goes off and on all night. On top of that, and this is what spoiled things actually, a dog in an adjoining room barked loudly ALL NIGHT LONG. It was unbearable. I called the front desk several times, and they didn't really seem to understand the gravity of the situation. They just said yea, it's very frustrating, we're trying to contact the owners, but nothing really resolved. We got no sleep and it was so frustrating. Operating on no sleep, we went out the next day to explore the town. When it got hot in the afternoon hours, we returned to the hotel to relax and get a nap in before dinner. But guess what? MORE DOG BARKING. For hours. And the same spiel from the front desk and management. So, no naps for us. It was beyond frustrating. After all that, the management offered no compensation or anything. They really didn't even address the dog barking except when I made the phone call to the front desk. It was all empty apologies and no action. All in all, it was a frustrating experience and I would hesitate to book there again.

Kelly seemed more focused on catering to a small group of guys in cowboy hats than maintaining the vibe that actually makes this spot stand out. Instead of reading the room, she and her May 1st bartender colleague locked into a single stream of country music that clearly wasn't resonating with most of the crowd. That's really the frustrating part, it wasn't just a music choice, it was the complete lack of awareness or willingness to adjust. People weren't being heard, requests were ignored, and the whole "records" concept felt pointless when it was treated so rigidly. If you're going to lean into vinyl as part of the experience, it should feel curated, responsive, and a little bit special, not like someone just putting on their personal playlist and tuning everyone else out. The drinks were genuinely great, which makes the situation even more disappointing. The potential is clearly there, but the execution on the atmosphere just didn't match. If the records are going to stay, they should actually be used to enhance the environment, not limit it. Otherwise, it might be better to ditch the gimmick entirely rather than let it drag down what could be an otherwise standout spot.
