I found this gem on Yelp and was so excited to try it. It did not disappoint! The decor is super cute, very colorful, and picture perfect. Everyone here was amazing. Memo helped us out, and he was so helpful, funny, and kind. I ordered the Desayuno La Señora with chipotle sauce (which they kindly accommodated), and it was incredible. I enjoyed every bite! The steak was tender, the sauce was rich and full of flavor, and even the sides were delicious. I paired it with a café de olla...so good! My fiancé ordered the molletes con chorizo and chicharrón en salsa verde... WOW. Everything tasted homemade with great flavor. The service was great! The staff was super friendly and go out of their way to answer any questions. The inside of the restaurant is super cute, love the decor. It is located in a small shopping center. There is a small parking garage and the restaurant is on the corner of that shopping center. We ordered the cafe de olla (7/10), tacos de canasta as an appetizer (8/10), La Cazuela (8/10), chilaquiles w/birria (7/10) - the birria and chilaquiles were dry, needed more sauce, the chilaquiles w/chochinita pibil were my favorite (10/10), they had the perfect amount of sauce and flavor. Maiz is in the heart of Tijuana. It is not huge, it is adorable with cute things on the walls and wonderful seats. The place is clean and comfortable. We loved everything about it. The prices are really fair and you will get a great meal there. The service is so nice and welcoming. Don't worry if you don't speak Spanish, they will help you and sometimes they have English and Spanish speak servers. They know the menu well and will get your order pretty fast and always right. If you want a mild sauce, they will do that. If you want something painfully hot, they can do that as well. The salsas are just great and they have a super selection. I hear their coffee is great, but I am a coward and don't drink anything made with tap water. But that is just me. All of their food is great and you will be happy with whatever you order. We love their Chilaquiles with Cecina and eggs. read more

Came here on a quick trip to Tijuana and was in need of an authentic shop with delicious food. The server and workers were very friendly and accommodating as well so I appreciate that. Quesadilla 5/5 - I'll have to say that this was a very delicious dish. I could tell the tortilla was handmade and that they used high quality ingredients especially in the cheese as well. It came with options to add red salsa topping which was spicy and a green one which was less spicy. It also came with pickled onions as well to add it on top since it's only the tortilla, cheese, and meat. The sizing is pretty big and I got full off of one, so also keep that in mind. This place also had a variety of what it seems like local cuisine. I saw other people who ordered soups like Pazole and it looked really good so I'll have to come back and try that out next time. Was very disappointed here. I ordered birria. Basically the bowl was all broth with a few shreds of beef in it. I basically had to eat it like soup. 240 pesos, or about $15 USD for what amounted to beef consommé. I'm from Los Angeles, so I'm used to overpaying, but for Tijuana that was ridiculous. That was a $5 meal at best, but even for $5, I wouldn't go back. I literally couldn't even make one taco with the amount of beef I was given. I ended up just dipping the tortillas into the broth and fished out the few beef shreds that I could with my spoon, not easy when it's swimming in broth. I don't know why this place gets such good reviews. Maybe something has changed, but not for the better. My server was very polite though. I would have preferred to go to Tacos El Franc and get two tacos for $5 USD, but they weren't open yet, sadly. read more

Location is small but do not let that stop you from going in. The employees are so friendly and welcoming. Food tastes homemade. Menu has a good selection. I did learn that not everything on the menu is available all day so just make sure you ask before wanting to order the gorditas. Pancakes had such an amazing flavor to them. Steak was well cooked. Chilaquiles sauce had good flavor and wasn't spicy. Plates are definitely a good size. Would definitely recommend! read more

This little corner place is exquisite! I google restaurants nearby and came across this place when staying at the Gran Hotel Tijuana; trust me you won't go wrong or be disappointed! Saw this place had really good reviews and decided to head over for a quick bite while in TJ. The place looked very aesthetically pleasing and was in an easy to reach location. The security guard in the parking lot was also a huge plus for me. I loved the tiffany color of the wall and the bathroom was very clean. A total win in TJ where the bathrooms can be an entire horror story. Service: The workers are very nice, but if you're looking for a quick bite to eat, I would suggest looking elsewhere. The food took quite a while to make. In total, we waited about 30 minutes for 1 pambazo, 3 quesadillas, 1 birriaquiles, and an order of pancakes. Wait time aside, the food wasn't my fave. My mom really liked their birriaquiles, and we both enjoyed the chicharrón quesadilla, but the pambazo and quesadillas de huitlacoche and mushroom fell very short on the mark for us. I think they lacked seasoning or even just some salt to bring out some of the natural flavors. Overall, a really cute place but not one that stands out in the food department read more

My sons quesadilla with meat was good, and my mother in law said she liked what she ordered. What a wonderful find this place was! The place is small but cute and super clean. When you walk in, they do a temperature check and give you sanitizer. The menu is available by QR code and easy to navigate their options. I have to point out the most important though: the food was delicious!! Attentive staff. The man who took our order was the best and made the experience so much better with his attention to detail and for making us feel at home. I ordered their strawberry Jamaica water and it was so good! For appetizers we had their tiny tacos made with potato, meat, and beans. Then we were served a bowl of sopa de fideo which was tasty. My main dish was their chicken enchiladas in mole. Holy mole! They were bomb! For dessert we tried a crepe cake with peaches. It was like HEAVEN!!!
