He came end of day after being referred by our plumbing contractor--thoroughly evaluated and delivered a detailed written plan within 24 hours. He literally rescued our bathroom remodel as our first contractor completely dropped the ball and then went dark on us. We interviewed multiple contractors, and Andrew was the only one that was able to articulate specific solutions and how he would implement them to make our vision a reality. He was able to correct the mistakes the previous contractor made, and on top of that was one of the most competitive bids we received. I was looking to have two and a half baths re-tiled in my new home and hired Andrew because he was prompt in his responses and could work with my dates. He gave me a quote over photos and his cost increased when he saw my place in person, however he was clear in his reasons for the increased cost and still (slightly) cheaper than the half-dozen other people I had quotes from. I stumbled across Mays Tile here on Yelp and thought I would give then a try. Andrew (the owner) is a perfect gentleman. He is soft-spoken yet incredibly personable. He takes great care in your home and great pride in the work product which is attached to his name. His work ethic, perfectionism, keen eye for detail and commitment to timelines are not usually qualities found in the construction industry. Andrew and Mays Tile is the anomaly and he goes above and beyond what is normal. It spoke volumes that he showed up to work every day in a collared shirt. That may sound like a strange thing to take note of but I believe it speaks to his professionalism. Andrew was a fantastic communicator and was respectful of our need to run a household while having construction done. Andrew interacted with the children who were a part of my family and treated them with respect - even engaging my six year-old who was enamored with Andrew and his work. Andrew was a dream come true, all the way from his pleasant personality, attention to detail and complete dependability. When we weren't completely happy with the bullnose that came with the tile we had ordered, Andrew made an alternative suggestion that proved to exceed our expectations. EDIT: I am amending this review because, after I posted it, Andrew took the step of contacting us to make things right. What's done is done, but to his credit he did give us a partial refund and apology, which I know is not easy to do. He also mentioned that he started using Redgard to waterproof his showers, which is a higher standard than he was using before. Even though we had a bad experience he did his best to make it right. [Original review below] I will agree with a couple of other reviewers that Andrew of Mays Tile was polite and nice while at our house. That is worth a star. His tile work looks nice, BUT...He does not know that tile and grout (even sealed grout) is NOT waterproof, and that moisture barriers are generally used in shower applications (Google it). Technically though, the shower IS up to our outdated local code as far as I can tell, so this is not what I am basing my review on. Instead, I am basing my review on poor customer service when dealing with problems after the fact. For an unknown reason, immediately after the shower was completed, grout thoroughly sealed, etc, our light beige grout started staying dark around the drain all the time, as if it was not drying out. The darkness eventually spread to encompass more of the shower floor. We stopped using the shower right away, and the grout was still dark weeks later. Other parts started looking "mottled" with areas of light and dark. After countless calls and emails, Andrew finally agreed to come look at the problem and re - grouted around the drain. The problem came right back. We kept trying to get Andrew to come out again, literally for several more months! After all, he had given us a warranty and we trusted him to stand behind his work. We even hired another contractor to give a second opinion, asked people we know with tiled showers, and Googled online to make sure we weren't crazy or just too picky, but unfortunately everyone agreed it looked awful! Long story short I was all ready to file a small claims suit when he finally returned our calls (approximately 5 emails and several phone calls over the course of several weeks with no response; I saved every sent email, so there is no disputing this). His solution was to re grout the shower floor with acrylic grout. He set several appointments to do this. He cut one appointment short after his tool broke, and cancelled 2 or 3 more, even though we told him we were trying to sell our house and needed the work to be completed within a few weeks. This process was actually still going on a year and a half after the original install, because he would go so many weeks without returning a call or email, and, frankly, we wanted to avoid a lawsuit. Finally, since we were about to sell the house, we hired Grout Medics to re grout with acrylic instead, and didn't sue only because we don't live there anymore and wanted to put the whole headache behind us. I'm sorry to say Andrew is the worst contractor I've dealt with, even though he seems like a "nice guy." read more

We needed to get my Grandma's bathroom tiled and after calling a few contractors in the area we decided to go with Mays. When we scheduled for them to come out to give us a bid, they showed up ON TIME, gave us a bid for the job which was accurate, and were very professional. I liked how Andrew took the time to listen to what my grandma wanted and made sure to make her feel comfortable with how the job was going to go- and end up looking. Mays Tile showed up on time, WORKED CLEANLY, and took the time to get everything straight and made sure we were comfortable with how things were turning out as they were working. The bathroom tile came out PERFECT! The floor, the shower, the walls, everything was perfect. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a truly professional tile contractor. You get what you pay for, especially in the trades. I wouldn't hesitate to go with Mays Tile again if I ever need a tile guy. read more

If I could give ten stars I would! I work with contractors and general contractors everyday. I monitor state and federal public works projects. I wish all contractors were like Mays Tile. Andrew and his crew are professional, easy to work with and straight to the point. All American roll up your sleeves and get the job done right - type of guys. We had three bathrooms and a fireplace tiled. They got the job done beautifully ! The price was very fair and my mind was able to be at ease because they got the job done way ahead of schedule.
