Maynard's is top notch! The service is always exceptional and the food is amazing. It is on the pricier side but totally worth it for a special night out. The chef's board comes with a variety of meats and cheeses and crackers, etc. It was a great start to my meal. The complimentary barrio bread is a great touch too. I ordered the short rib which comes with squash and carrots. It was so tender and flavorful. Finally, I tasted the tiramisu cheesecake. What a sparkling gem of a restaurant! It was a tad tricky to get here... driving over cable car tracks and whipping weird u turns -I'm glad it was 6:40 am on a Saturday so no traffic! Turn right and there you are, dark wood and stainless steel, modern and antique blended beautifully. Order at the front, pay, take your number and stumble out to the gorgeous patio (if you haven't yet had your coffee) to a wide open, plant surrounded heaven. I ordered a ham, egg, gruyere and arugula breakfast sandwich-and a Cafe latte The early summer morning was absolutely stunning and I soaked up the views, wandering over to their organic garden for a peek. They brought the food quickly, but forget utensils, and that took longer than the food, but I was in a great space, so no worries. During this time I SHOULD have taken pictures of the meal, I almost always do/ and beautiful it was, STUFFED with lovely arugula. Alas, when the utensils came I DOVE into it- a testament to its enticement-not my fault! It was superb, and the cafe latte very good too But that SANDWICH! Heaven As if that wasn't enough, a TRAIN! Food is pretty good but they do a few sneaky things here and there. There's always one item in the menu that is extremely overpriced for what you get. I was excited to order the Hiyashi Chuka Steak, which is described as a prime skirt steak. What arrived was about 1/4 of a full steak, maybe 4oz of meat tops. It was super thin and cooked to medium-well/well done. Definitely not worth $40. Lots of tucson restaurants seem to do this with their skirt/hanger/flank steaks. They give you about a third of the cut and charge you as if you're getting a full steak. Please stop doing this guys! read more

First visit to Maynards for my birthday dinner did not disappoint! Our hostess knew exactly who we were from our reservation and seated us quickly with a smile and a "happy birthday." We immediately had water brought to the table, and then met our amazing server, Emma, who was delightfully attentive and timely, with an excellent knowledge of the dishes we ordered. The ambience was upscale, yet relaxed, and it's fun to see the trains go by on the other side of the kitchen's garden, which is lovely. The bartender, Star, made a stellar cocktail called The Summer Prelude, and the goat cheese brulee was so flavorful, served with grilled, fluffy focaccia. The heirloom tomato & strawberry salad was fresh and delicious, a perfect start to a summer meal! Our steaks were perfectly grilled, juicy and flavorful, with the creamiest potatoes gratin and locally grown mushrooms. Dessert was Thai Tea Strawberry Shortcake... pretty much the most delicate thing I've ever tasted, and churros made from mesquite flour with a birthday candle for me! Bottom line... My first review for Maynard's was pretty close to gushing. For so many visits, they could do no wrong by me. Unfortunately, in the last half dozen plus times that we've been here for lunch/brunch, this has not been the case. The service still stinks. They're very nice, but they're not very attentive. I can't understand what the deal is. They seem to have plenty of staff for the few tables that they have. It's slow to order drinks, get drinks, order food, etc. -- everything from the start of the meal to the finish. One waiter thought scallions were leeks. I am still not sure what flavor the tea is after having it on five different occasions, because different waiters call it different things. The staff turns over quite often, so I'm wondering what's going on here. The food is inconsistent. I've never been to a place where the same dish can look and taste so differently visit to visit. I've had amazing Cuban sandwiches, and I've also had Cubans loaded with mustard, with ripped apart bread that didn't hold the sandwich together. I've had scrambled eggs that were absolutely delectable, and I've had scrambled eggs so loaded with herbs that they were more green than yellow. Surprisingly, the herby eggs had no salt and they forgot to add the gruyere cheese, so they were still pretty flavorless. Same goes for other dishes. They really need to figure out how to get the food to be more consistent. Some variation is fine, but the same dish shouldn't be amazing one day, and inedible the next. The biggest issue: the cleanliness. They've given us carafes of water that were encrusted with debris on the inside of them, with the water. Twice. The coffee mugs and water glasses that are set on the tables commonly have debris caked on them. Luckily, today, we were seated at a table for 4, because 3 of the 4 mugs were filthy. The spoon given to me for my coffee had a grimy-like bit of stuff smeared on it. I used a butter knife to stir my coffee instead. Their dishwasher stinks, or the person pre-rinsing the dishes stinks. Either way, it's disgusting to eat and drink from plates and mugs that have other people's leftover food bits on them. Frankly, it's unacceptable. I don't have the heart to give Maynards 2 stars, but part of me thinks they deserve it for the cleanliness issues alone. Some patrons do look and care about that stuff. I sincerely hope that the management or owner reads this and takes it into consideration. We've been to Maynards probably approaching two dozen times now. When Maynards is good, it's really good, and we love going there. But when it's filthy, when the food is not its best, and when the wait staff is horrible, I don't want anything to do with the place. With some decent management, none of these things should be a problem for a restaurant that has most of the pieces already. read more

Maynard's really outdid themselves with the new market set-up, so much, that I really think the markets needs its own Yelp listing, and I've been urging them for too long, and I can't wait for hat to happen because I'm too excited to review their new digs. First things first: the interior is totally renovated showcasing a huge deli area that boasts a lot more counter space and several menus-breakfast, lunch, deli and dessert. The space feels cafeteria-esque in a way and I like it. The deli case offerings rotate daily serving fresh dishes like chicken salad, truffled egg salad, grilled vegetables, roasted chicken, grilled polenta and even daily specials like Coq au vin. From the deli I ordered the grilled polenta with mushrooms and broccolini . And roasted chicken. I enjoyed very much. Mynbf ordered then sandwich lunch special I also enjoyed sneaking a bite or two. We tried to order a side of truffled egg salad but were told they were only available in pint size, so we went without. I would suggest that they offer portion sizes for the deli goods that are smaller than a pint, as there's plenty of things that would be suitable as a side dish. After perusing a bit, I took note of some other awesome changes like the Isabella's Ice Cream fridge and the cheesecake in a cup from Cup Cafe. That's not even including their pastry section. I have yet to try a cappuccino from that glorious machine they have in the market, but Iwill be back! I'm super pleased with the changes. I wanted to know firsthand what the hype was all about with this place. I took one of my best friends to this location. CLASSY all the way. The decor is dark, which makes it GREAT! The Prince Edward Island Mussels were delicious. While we did enjoy the Pommes frites, the serving was too large. The cheese plate was decent, but the cheese was smelly. I came here one evening to celebrate finishing a big test with some friends. I've never been here, but hear a lot about the food and have read amazing reviews through Yelp. Unfortunately, I wasn't as impressed as others' have been, which might be due to the fact that we came here during dinner instead of brunch or lunch. The ambiance is very pretty and there was live music, which added to an amazing atmosphere and layout. They have heat lamps outside if you're cold and have candle lights around tables. As for food and drinks, I had their margarita, which was very tasty A little on the pricier side, but it was to be expected with the restaurant and dinner scene. Some of my friends ordered the sangria and they said it was delicious! My friends ordered the spare ribs, which looked delicious, but I ordered the butternut risotto and added shrimp for an extra charge. You get about 5 shrimp added to the risotto, which was cooked well. It was a good portion of risotto, but I was really disappointed in the lack of flavor in the dish. I had to add a lot of pepper and some salt to the dish because it would otherwise be very bland. It wasn't as creamy as I've had at other restaurants but the butternut squash was a nice twist to the classic dish. I wish I could give this place more than 3 stars, but I can't right now. The only somewhat annoying part for me was the trains constantly passing through, does take away if you are mid conversation (but I am sure this is not a make it or break it factor). The food was great, different concept than I am used to. Most of the items have a sweeter touch to them with glaze and sauce on. I tried the hangar steak and the meat was cooked just right, but the sweet glaze was not my favorite. Came with a side of fries, can never go wrong with that. I know next time to order without glaze. What a fantastic place. We lined up a few places to visit while in Tucson and enjoying our anniversary week. We wound up changing some places, and I kept Maynard's on my list because of the ratings and what appeared to be a foodie experience. We were not disappointed. On arrival we stopped in at the market and bought some wine for our stay at the hotel, and they were super friendly and helpful. At the restaurant, they took great care of us and gave us a very nice table out on the patio. Despite being a public area, it was spotlessly clean (like much of Tucson, it seems.) We started with the poutine, which put all other poutine we've had to shame. Just the right balance of flavor, not too much gravy, and great cheeses on top. We had the pan-roasted duck with a cherry glaze, and salmon with a pepito pesto and pumpkin creme sauce. The duck was nothing to write home about, but the salmon was glorious. So many great flavor, perfectly blended and none overwhelming the perfectly cooked salmon. I don't normally order salmon, and this time, I am really glad that I did. For dessert I had the trifle which was delightful and my wife had the dolce du leche gelato which was decadent. We don't normally gonfor dessert but these were hard to pass up. The food was flavorful and plentiful. We selected the halibut, prepared perfectly so the fish was light and flaky, and the short rib, tender and tasty. The service, both at the bar and table, was attentive and pleasant. The dining area elicits intimate conversation however our visit had a table of four women who did not understand this concept. It was challenging to hear conversation at our table as their voices echoed across the room. The dining area acoustics are not capable of reducing that volume of noise. I really really didn't want to have to write a review like this, but here goes... *Disclaimer - I only got to eat one bite of the steak tartare as we had to leave due to an allergy issue* My partner and I came to Maynards for a nice post Christmas dinner date. The restaurant itself is really cute and I would have loved to spend more time here. We sat down and before ordering told the waiter that we had a nut allergy (all the fries are cooked in peanut oil, so we needed to make sure that cross contamination wasn't an issue). When we ordered, we asked again if the items we ordered had any nuts in them and asked for a nut allergy to be specified on our ticket. In total, we ordered the foie gras, the steak tartare, the duck breast, and the pork chop. Our appetizers came out, and I took a bite of the steak tartare. It. Was. Amazing. However, my partner looked at the foie gras and said "is that an almond?" Yes. Yes indeed it was almond slices on top of the foie gras. We immediately sent the dish back and asked for the check. The head server came up to us immediately and was very apologetic, but we didn't feel safe eating there. We were told that the head chef had momentarily left and the kitchen staff were not aware of how nut allergies worked. I was so looking forward to this meal, but it was ruined by someone incompetent. Maynards is a great place. Located downtown with a parking lot right next door it is easy to find and park. They have a great menu and a beautiful outdoor patio. On Mondays people go there to meet up and walk around downtown. It's a great event with raffle prizes and fun for the whole family. It is called Meet Me At Maynards and I have gone many times. There is a band sometimes and it is very relaxing to sit on the patio, enjoy a drink, and listen to the band. read more
