Came here for anniversary dinner. I have celiac disease, and this restaurant is one of those that just subtracts gluten rather than figure out how to serve me a fantastic dinner. I'm celiac, not keto! After the main, rather than being asked what I would like for dessert, after a wait (when I thought the server would be by with a dessert menu), a complimentary dessert to share (presumptuous!) was put on the table. I never would have ordered such a thing. It was as if I were supposed to be grateful to have been served anything. While I didn't get sick, that's a really low bar for success at this price point. Next time, I'll choose a place with hospitality where I am welcomed with a food I actually like to eat and can relax without being made to feel like a mutant. read more

Man...I wanted this to be a win so bad. But no. First, the good: The cocktail - old fashioned - was excellent. We came here for Mother's Day. My son LOVES trains, so we sat outside, hoping to catch one. None arrived. Not their fault, of course! But the food...so disappointing. Online, they listed a kid's menu...they don't actually have one, though. The portions were super small. Everything was cold. The bill was $144 for a family of four. Folks traveling via Amtrak - next door - are generally on a budget. I don't expect them to stick around. (One more old fashioned, though, and they might have earned another star or two.) read more

Popped into the market for a cold beer after wandering the hot streets of Tucson. So glad we stumbled upon this quiet haven housed in the old train depot. Friendly staff, AC, good happy hour wine/beer/cocktails, and a shaded outdoor oasis to kick back and watch the trains go by. My only complaint is that the market doesn't really have much to offer in the way of NA bevs. Basically just bubbly water, Guayaki mate, and Jones soda. LOVE the atmosphere and vibe of this restaurant - dimly lit (but not too dim), making it feel intimate and romantic. I went here with my parents and a close friend, so there were four of us. My mom had made our reservation ahead of time and we got their early to take a look at the train and statues which I recommend if you haven't visited the station. We opted for two orders of the pommes frites to start which were tasty (and my dad had been RAVING about these particular frites; I'd say they were more like traditional fries rather than the skinny crunchy "frites" you imagine, but still tasty). Three of us shared a couple bottles of the 'Purely Sedona' sparkling water that they offer (this was my first time trying this brand and I was impressed), while my friend enjoyed two of Maynard's craft Manhattans, which came in a lovely martini glass. Food was delicious, especially the salmon 'catch of the day' with lavender chimichurri sauce (which was my order). We loved the sauce so much we ordered two extra sides of to dip our bread in! Our waiter came out and told us the chef was pleased we like the sauce so much. My mom ordered the market salad which is exactly what you'd expect - you can't go wrong with a good salad right? My dad and friend both ordered the pork belly which had a nice presentation and they enjoyed. The four of us shared the Ibarra Chocolate Torte for dessert and if you like extremely rich, extremely chocolatey desserts- this is for you! My dad is the KING of over-the-top chocolate desserts and we couldn't even finish one between the four of us. It will certainly satisfy your sweet tooth if you want something decadent. This was our third trip to this market. We love the open patio overlooking the train tracks. It was a beautiful day, and we couldn't resist the aromas from Maynards. At the Market, you order at the counter, and can watch them fix your meal. They deliver to your table. There are amazing baked goods, many bottles of wine and yummy sandwiches, soups and salads for lunch. We had the BLT, the pastrami Reuben and Cesar salad. All portions were very good size. They offer add-in's for the salad. My friend added chicken to hers and a half-salad was plenty big. The bread is fresh and hearty. Chips come with the sandwiches. This restaurant is located in the Historic train depot. We tried Maynard's based on a friends suggestion that lives in Tuscon. We were visiting from out of state. It appears that staffing is an issue here, tables were empty but we had to wait to be seated( we were 15 mins. Early) we waited in the front of the restaurant and asked for cocktails. The hostess was sure to tell the bar we were there. The bartender was great and answered questions and took our order. We were seated and greeted by our server. We had the mushrooms and deviled eggs for apps. Placed an order for a bottle of wine and our entrees. 2-pork, 1- swordfish and the beef coulotte. Food was delicious, beef was cooked fine but not served hot. Overall good experience although our server while professional was not engaging and seemed distracted. The whole experience seemed rushed, you took a reservation for 8pm but started cleaning while we were still eating. We would go back just earlier in the evening. read more

Service was awesome, ambiance was amazing, perfect ambiance, My food was sadly not good. The Lion's Mane mushroom steak was a terrible consistency, couldn't eat it. My friend who had the same dish also had a hard time stomaching the mucus-like consistency. My wife loved her meal which was the Porcini Pappardelle. The grilled flatbread which was served with the Burrata was burned. The churro desert tasted off. The herbal tea I ordered never came. So pretty frustrating with otherwise great service, fantastic ambiance but left very dissatisfied. The last kick in the a__ came as we headed up to the 2nd floor to use the restroom, and there was a code needed to get in, so we had to journey back down to the restaurant to get the code, not awesome sadly. We've eaten there before when the food was great all around. We'll probably try again before giving up but not for awhile. read more

Came in a bit later on a Wednesday night, as this place is pretty close to my hotel and sounded good. I think I've been here a couple times but a bit of time has passed. Got seated right away, the hostess and water guy and server were super friendly (solo dining!) And had good recommends. I had a pretty heavy lunch (fajitas) so I opted for the the market fish and a side of risotto since the hostess said it was delicious. I ordered right away and then proceeded to be the annoying diner on her phone the whole meal. I don't think people minded. Happy 10th Anniversary to us! Heard this place was great. Really nice wine list. From astronomical to reasonable. We shared the chicory salad. They did not split it. The salad was very unique and delicious. Velvet had the Butternut squash risotto. Served with a wonderful crispy mushroom duxelle. (Fritter). I had the ricotta gnocchi. Since we didn't have a reservation we chose to sit at the bar and were given the bar drinks menu and informed that it was $2 off drinks which still made the drinks expensive. Tonight a friend and I decided to begin our night with adult beverages and enjoy dinner . From the moment we walked in, we were treated like royals. We chose to sit at the bar and have our meal there which is full service . Our bartender/ server named STAR was beyond fabulous . Making sure we were well informed bout the menu and special drinks of the night . Star was busy with a full bar and also taking care of the dining room drink orders which she did with ease . The food was outstanding, fresh and didn't miss the extra garnish to brighten up the plate. What I noticed right away is the whole experience is done with team effort . Makes it even more special . Service was good, we had a sweet female server. The food, however, was almost inedible. I came with a table of 8 and everyone mentioned how incredibly salty the entrees were: the meatballs, the swordfish, the spaghetti. I really wanted to like this place but I have to say I'm definitely not a fan of the chef oversalting the entrees. We even heard the people at the next table complain about how salty their food was. Somewhat disappointing! Made reservations and got a crappy table. Half full and still got a crappy table. So when you book on line and they ask about table or request. Do not bother. Ordered steak tartar. Ok. This was pretty good but not spectacular. We split the squash risotto with shrimp and sausage. Again good but not spectacular. Over all just ok! The standard was mediocre. So I was disappointed. The coffee came out cold. So when they brought out hot coffee, I am not sure what it was? The cold coffee at least tasted like coffee the hot coffee tasted like something else. Not sure what it was. The bread was good. The first time out the butter was nice at room temperature. The second round the butter was solid and cold. To summarize this is safe yet unspectacular. If you ask me, I can say without hesitation that Maynard's is one of the best restaurants in downtown Tucson. I had been to Maynard's bar-area many times before but had never sat down and enjoyed an actual meal. I finally did this past week and it was amazing. My girlfriends and I went in for dinner and we all loved the cocktails, appetizers and dinner. Our server was attentive and helpful and we enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. Came here for one reason, and one reason only. Poutine! I've been itching for a poutine fix in Tucson and this is one of the only places with some! In the market poutine isn't on the menu, but it is in the restaurant. A man behind the counter told us that he could order it for uus in the market, which was great! The poutine was good, a little salty, but good quality, and had bits of meat too! Lovely happy hour vibe. There's a huge patio with a garden. I'll warn you that the train comes by every so often, but that's just part of the charm! On the way out I saw the pastry case, and I honestly could have eaten anything and everything in there. I have been to Maynard's so many times; I'm not sure why I haven't posted a review sooner. It's one of my favorite spots in downtown Tucson. The food is consistently good, the outdoor patio is sweet, the service is always stellar, the Summer wine tastings are fun, and their private rooms are perfect for business meetings. Whatever the occasion and mood, Maynard's has you covered! Their menu is always different each time I go and the food never disappoints. The presentation is also beautiful. I've had many of their salads and entrees, and of course, dessert. Trust me, you want to save room for their rich and decadent deserts. The wine tastings are also really nice as long as you don't mind a crowd. Get there early if you want to find a seat! I don't necessarily recommend a large party unless you plan to stand or get there before it starts to stake out a spot. It is downtown so there isn't much metered parking. There is valet and I've always found a spot in the parking garage behind Hotel Congress. If you haven't tried Maynard's yet, go! It's awesome! read more

Stop by for a quick happy hour, was pleasantly surprised that they had a chefs board and a bottle of wine for $20. Happy hour is from 4 PM to 8 PM daily and they have a ton of drink and food specials. It was nice being able to sit inside and enjoy the weather. They have a beautiful patio where you could say unfortunately it was raining that day but the view was beautiful and very clean and comfortable. Maynard's is one of the best places in downtown Tucson for a high-quality and out-of-the-ordinary meal. We generally go for special occasions or date nights because it is on the pricier side, bug we are rarely let down. We most recently attended the prix fixe meal for Valentine's and it is a great way to try something you wouldn't ordinarily order or even have access to. I'm a notoriously picky eater, but I still enjoy all of the dishes that are offered. So, don't be afraid of fine dining if you're normally a picky person. They also source almost all of their food from Arizona vendors. My favorite things here are the vegetarian dishes, so you can't go wrote with any of those options. The alcohol and wine selection are wonderful here and we have been able to take advantage of a sommelier service in the past. Check this place out sooner rather than later. read more

I've been to Cup Cafe a few times and got the chance to check out the sister restaurant last night. It's a nice, classed-up atmosphere. Candelit, white paper top tables with crayons for doodling. The only downside is that trains pass by about every half hour. Combined with a lively dining room makes for a noisier restaurant than most others. But, it's a good sign that it's a hot spot. Our server was courteous and knowledgeable of the menu. I ordered the heirloom tomato risotto, my date the house made pesto pasta. Both dishes were some of the best I'd ever tasted. The risotto had layers of flavor; from the sharp Parmesan, to the tart tomatoes, the spice of the pickled peppers, and the texture contrast of the eggplant and shiitake mushrooms. Everything worked together really well in the dish. Just glad there was enough for leftovers the next day. The pesto pasta was flavorful and al dente. Next time, I'll try a meat/fish dish as I was very impressed by this vegetarian option. read more

3 of us stopped at Maynard's today for lunch. It's a great place for lunch! Here's the food; I had the veggie sandwich. It came with home made chips. All yummy! 1/2 Cuban and avocado grapefruit salad - superb! Salad was fresh and inventive. Jalapeños on the Cuban was a nice touch. 1/2 Ham and Brie sandwich and the same salad - also superb. Also delish! One problem: I wanted a second beer and had to go back to the cashier and wait in line with the others that were deciding what they wanted for lunch. So you wait and wait. This is a business model flaw and really should be modified. Even with that, it's worth a visit. I'll be back. Maybe get a bottle of wine instead of beer. read more
