Definitely recommend. Lovely little place in downtown Tucson. We visited with some colleagues from the trade show that was in town at the time. Outside of our dining partners giving our waiter a hard time it was thoroughly delightful. read more

In the market, I got a latte, excellent. The zucchini bread was good also. Sat in the patio and had a stress free breakfast.

When we first went here, i think the original chef was still on board. Everything amazing. We've tried to go back a few times over the years for special occasions. It is the feeling of a skeleton operation trying to ride off an energy ball that once rolled through. Even stopping by the bar for drinks only recently, the bartenders are too busy to chat with you, with almost no other patrons at the bar. They just want to hurry up and close. Hurry up and shut the business down for good is more like it. What a wonderful place to sit and listen to the constant pulse of trains through downtown, and the beautiful interior. Thinking about a special dinner downtown? Pass on Maynard's to salvage your special night, until they fix...bartending staff? Management? Cooks? Until they find a new heart to fill their empty soul. read more

I like to come here for the duck poutine. It is always delicious. I have also had salads from here, and they taste really fresh and yummy. I always come in to find an attentive and friendly staff. The prices are good for what you're getring, and the cocktails are great too. 10/10 would recommend. read more

I've been in Tucson for 3yrs, easily the best restaurant in the city. It trumps the foothills places too. Amazing ahi, great filet, solid wine list. In my book hands down the best spot in Tucson. Not too expensive, just right. read more

Service slow until order taken then very good. Entrees expensive and small (as past experience on other occasions as well). Flavors off from expected. Onion soup base was sweet and not beef flavored; odd flavor. Cassoulet had a vinegary tomato base with small white beans instead of broad beans as traditional; should be neither vinegary or tomato-flavored and should have strong meaty and dairy flavor (from cream or milk); duck and sausage very tasty if eaten alone but overwhelmed by sauce. Macaroni, hearty rustic bread and compound butter all excellent. read more

My best restaurant experience in Tucson by far. I haven't dined for dinner in a while and just got on Yelp, but after I had seen some of the awful reviews, I had to do Maynards justice. I went for dinner a couple months ago, before a show. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. We started off the meal with a few cocktails, the Martini Caprese and the Tarte Aux Pommes. The Tarte Aux Pommes was a little sweet for my taste, but these cocktails were outstanding. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he really new his stuff. We had all his recommendations. Our first course consisted of the mussels in the classic white wine broth, house frites (AMAZING) and the charcuterie: three pieces of toast, one with mortadella shmear, one with anchovies, and one with duck rillettes. The duck charcuterie was my favorite but all were the perfect start to the meal. For the main course, I had the filet with brussels and bacon. The filet was cooked to perfection, and as for the brussel sprouts - I guess it's true that everythings better with bacon! My guests had the bouillabaise - fresh seafood in a delicious broth (my favorite) - and the fresh fish of the evening. No complaints. We completely cleaned all of our plates. We had moved on to wine for our entrees, and went by our server's recommendations, which were impeccable but I have unfortunately forgotten which wines by now. Though we were fairly full, I am never one to pass on dessert, so we shared the chaud froid and the lemon tart. The chaud froid was a selection of cheesecake, biscotti, fruit, and other goodies to dip in a very rich semi sweet chocolate fondue of sorts. Amazing for anybody thats a chocolate lover! The lemon tart was perfectin. (and the lemon tart dipped in the chocolate fondue was good too :) ). One guest finished with a digestif and one a glass of sparkling wine, we had a fabulous evening and definitely enjoyed our show! Maynards is what good restaurants should all strive to be. I've been back to the bar several times since my divine meal, and the menu has changed several times. But definitely give this place a chance! I promise you will not be disappointed. read more

When in Tuscon usually twice a year, my wife and I make it quickly to Maynards at the train depot to savor one of their masterful cocktails while waiting for a train to pass (very exciting for us) then to enjoy a well-prepared, upper scale meal. I recently enjoyed their pulled-pork dish. When asking about wine choices, we got a thoughtful and importantly, knowledgeable response. No gibberish or posing here. If you happened to like and take an interest in Italian cuisine, engage the bartender/host. You won't be disappointed. Attire is casual to dressy. No television. Thank God. read more

Im new to the Tuscon area which is not that big to begin with and a lot of the restaurants and eateries leave a lot to be desired, but this place hands down was amazing the food the ambience a little pricey but well worth it. draw back they close at 10pm upside they will wait for you even if you are the last table in the house. Great Job and see you soon! read more

Went for a birthday dinner (acknowledged on their Open Table reservation system.) Our waiter was attentive but robotic--he had no recommendations or personality and never did anything for the birthday--to me the difference between a 20-25%+ tip) There was a lively happy hour crowd that was surprisingly casual for such an upscale restaurant. Our food was OUTSTANDING! The only problem was my well done, supposed to be medium, New York strip which was delicious and flavorful at any temperature! I just wish our waiter had checked on our meals and the temperature of my steak shortly shortly after our meal arrived--for the price I would have expected this level of attention. The food was outstanding and this restaurant is intimate and comfortable...waitstaff needs overhaul--management/ chef/ owner needs to check in with diners. Still the best, flavorful food I've had in Tucson. read more

I haven't been to Maybards in a few months after having a few disappointing meals and was happily surprised. I had lunch in the Market - ordered the Banh Mi with seared ahi tuna and all I can say is it was outstanding! Not just great but honestly one of the best sandwiches I have ever had in tucson. The flavors are out of this world complemented by home made potato chips. Just writing this review makes me want to go back and have another. The server - a tall hipster with glasses - was so attentive and made sure I was well taken care off, my ice tea topped off and was quick to offer a to-go box. I so thrilled I can put this downtown spot back on my lunch rotation. read more

Small and intimate farmers market on Monday nights. Great gluten free dessert options!

Great food and excellent service! The Drawing Room at Maynards is a great room for private dinner events, the room is upstairs away from the crowd so it was nice and intimate for my event. Last years I worked with Melissa Matriss on several events and I was very pleased with the service. Melissa and staff were very accommodating to all my needs menu, screen/AV ect.. I look forward to working with Melissa & Maynards in 2016. read more

We went for my birthday in late January, late on a monday evening. Even though they only had 1 server working, they did a great job! It took them a while to seat us, but they were seating to keep the kitchen from getting slammed. The bartender did come over and ask us if she could get us started with a drink. Overall: A+ Food Service: C+ Service The weird thing about our waitress is that she kept filling up our waters - even when it only had 1 sip taken out of a full glass.....just different I guess. Amazing! I would highly recommend Maynards to anyone. I came to Maynards on a business trip and was blown away by the food, drinks and the professional staff. Our server, I believe her name was Alex, was extremely educated on their drinks (which they do a fantastic job of adding their own signature to) as well as the food menu. Simply knowing the menu is one thing- however, she made me feel as if I was talking to the head chef! If you are looking for a complete dining experience and a friendly, professional staff then look no further than Maynard's Kitchen. read more

Delicious; absolutely. Great place for dates or intimate evenings. Also love the location in downtown. I went for dinner.

Dinner at the Kitchen...Filet Mignon was cooked perfectly! Bread and butter heavenly....Short rib really tender and flavorful. Service was spot on! Only bummer was the flies we encountered at the bar waiting for our table. Bartender apologized and explained that it was just that time of the year. Will certainly come back however. Valet parking is also a nice feature of this restaurant. Attendant was very friendly! read more

We came here with my family for a special birthday celebration. We could not have been more disappointed. Scallops were gritty, fishy-tasting and under seasoned, pasta was swimming in oil and curiously tasteless and beer-brined chicken was dry and unimpressive. The steaks and lamb shank delivered more flavor and were all cooked nicely. The service was as inattentive and uninterested as I've ever encountered in a supposedly high-end restaurant. After being left alone for over a half hour one of our party went in search of our waiter. Someone clocking out saw us wandering aimlessly and went to find him. We would have asked the bartender or hostess for help, but they were curiously MIA as well. Odd. All in all, a very expensive mixed bag that definitely put a damper on a special occasion. read more

Their NY style pastrami sandwich with mustard is my favorite sandwich in all of Arizona. I've also enjoyed their cuban pork sandwich, their carne asada sandwich and a variety of warm empanadas (not the pastry kind but te meat or beans kind). We enjoy eating outdoors for lunch. The market has wonderful seasonal events. Today they had complementary caramel apples and you could make them yourself at a dipping station. They carry lots of local products and I like their idea of buying local when possible, responsibly otherwise. read more

Customer Service is their priority and don't forget the great food! I took a food tour of downtown Tucson with Tucson Food Tours and Maynard's was one of our spots. Having not lived in Tucson for the last 9 yrs but a frequent visitor I had never heard of Maynard's. I'm sure glad I was introduced to this local eatery. The customer service is outstanding they welcomed those of us on the tour and had a nice set up for us. The chef selected that day for us to sample his French onion soup. It was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. This having been my first trip to Maynard's I flipped through their menu and their menu looks amazing. So enticing that I will be back for dinner at Maynard's on my next visit to Tucson. Even though I don't live in the area I work with several people that frequent Tucson and I mentioned Maynard's to them and to my surprise all of them having heard for this great eatery. So word travels fast when you find a great place to eat. Thank you Tucson Food Tours for introducing me to Maynard's Kitchen, I'll be back for more and make sure I pass on the word to others. read more

I love the local ingredients and unique menu at Maynard's. If you are looking for something extra special I highly recommend requesting a chef's table here. I took my husband for his 30th birthday, named the price and specified a focus on sous vide cooking. We were delighted by a five course meal with wine pairings (non alcoholic Bellini pairings for me as I was pregnant) and all were excellent. Chef Addam came out to explain each course personally. The only slight hiccup in the evening was when my husband spilled his fourth glass of wine on me and started inviting everyone to come to our home for dinner :) read more

Went there for Sunday Brunch and was very pleased. The atmosphere in the back Bar Area was classy. The menu was delish. We had Eggs Benedict w/ Crab Cakes...it was perfect. Service was excellent. read more

I absolutely love how they remodeled this place. It really reminds of a the train station place in San Francisco. I wish it was walking distance from my house - I would walk there everyday for their pastries and coffee and just to relax. Everyone is really nice and food is always on point. I love their selection of pastries - the one with the cream filing is my favorite. I also tried their sandwiches and the chicken salad sandwich is my favorite - I believe it's a combination of cranberries, nuts, chicken and mayo. It's also very clean so that's a plus! read more

The perfect dining experience! I'm a traveling musician who passed through Tucson to play a gig. My friends and I asked around town for a great place to eat and were told Maynards was the place to go. The second we pulled up we knew this place was special. We were stunned to find complimentary valet service with a smile! We walked in and were immediately taken back by the atmosphere. The restaurant is classy, sophisticated and stylish, unlike anything I've experienced in Tucson. We were greeted by the hostess and seated at a candle-lit table outside in the cool summer air, where we enjoyed live music and the periodic passing of a train! A very calming sight. Atmosphere aside, the food was mouth-watering! Some of the best tasting food we've ever eaten! Our party started with the vegetable soup, spinach salad, Caesar salad and an array of delicious pizzas to pass around. Everything was excellent! For the main course we enjoyed NY steak, which I highly recommend, Halibut, mussels, homemade french fries and brussel sprouts with bacon, which is a must order!n For deserts we visited the adjacent market for Ben and Jerry's Ice cream bars and an assortment of sweets. Try the macaroons!! The service was perfect! Our waiter was very professional and knowledgeable about the menu. He made excellent recommendations and was very friendly! Also, the owner personally greeted our table and checked on our meal. We had such a wonderful evening that we returned the following night! If you're looking for something at the bar I recommend Dead Mans Handle, the best drink on the menu, and Maynards Margaritas! Delicious! Check it out for yourself! You will absolutely fall in love with this place, just like we did! read more

By far the most amazing service and food, EVER!!! Our waiter James was so knowledgeable. He could tell you everything from the spices to way it was prepared, it was an experience in itself just from the service we received. The food was superb, by far the Best paella I have ever had in my life. I have been there 3 times now, once for lunch, and twice for dinner. The chef came out to our table and gave us a little insight into the up coming menu, all I can say is YUMMM! By far the best restaurant here in town no doubt, and I know the best I have ever been to. I am no restaurant critic but if I was I would surely give this an A+++++ We will be eating here again very soon. read more

While the staff was great and the light meal and coffee were too, THEY DID NOT HAVE A BATHROOM. I only found out after we ordered and paid. She said it was under construction and to use the train station one. It was closed! I ended up using the bus station bathroom (not my best experience) and was very unhappy about this. After my 10 min walk to and back, and drinking my cooled coffee I question where were are the guests from the wedding party going? Very disappointed as there were many other places I would have rather spent $32.00. read more

My husband and I joined another couple for dinner, tonight. I felt the need to comment on our waitress, Lynn. She was outstanding!! She was very attentive, professional, and knowledgeable about menu ingredients, as well as, the history of Maynards. She made sure our water was always filled, checked in with us in a professional and timely manner, and even kept our plates and table arranged. I was impressed with her attention to detail and very friendly demeanor. She, truly, made our dining experience exceptional. I can't say enough good things about her service. The food matched the service, in that it was excellent. Even though it is a bit of a drive for us, we plan on making Maynards one of our regular choices for a meal out. read more

At first we were favorably impressed by the chic/elegant decor and friendliness of the staff. However, the appetizers we ordered were only so-so - about the equivalent of something you'd get frozen from Trader Joes. Of our two entrees, my bouillabaisse tasted great, but the fish was overcooked and inedible (fortunately, I filled up on mussels). My husband's gnocci were inexplicably sweet and he did not finish his meal. We shared the cheesecake for dessert, which was fine but nothing memorable. Again, I felt like I could have bougth the same thing at Trader Joes. If the price had been moderate, I'd have loved this restaurant for the ambiance and convenience to downtown tucson. But at this price, I expect a real chef to prepare exceptional food.. read more

I really hate to do this. Every time I have been to Maynards, I have enjoyed the drinks and the food. However, my birthday was almost ruined and I have decided that they have become complacent, lazy, and living off the good hype. We had reservations at 8:00 for an outside table. Early in the day, I found out there was going to be some drum and bass DJs playing inside and out. My husband called the restaurant and asked them if this was going to affect dinner. They acted like it was no big deal and nothing to worry about. We get there, and I took one look at the "patio" seating. Some homeless people are loafing around, the DJ is setting up including saying "check, check" over and over into the speakers surrounding the patio. There is no ambience whatsoever outside. It seriously looks like a place you would just sit while waiting for your train. All the tables are filled except for one, squarely in the middle. We ask to please have a table inside, that we can even wait for one, and we are told no, they are all booked. I am pretty bummed at this point, but determined to not let it ruin the evening. We sit outside and wait for 15, count them 15 minutes where no one even comes to our table. We are just sitting there like idiots. I had decided what I wanted to eat at that point, and I was looking around at the other tables, some of them looked pretty annoyed with the whole experience too. I was borderline angry and decided it was not worth it to be treated this way for my birthday dinner. We told the hostess no one had ever come to our table and we were leaving. She didn't even apologize or convince us to stay. What kind of place treats their customers this way! Not a place where I want to spend my money. Maynards, seriously, if you want to be a restaurant you should know that you can't treat the customers the same way you treat them at Hotel Congress. After we left, we went to Jax and had an excellent dinner and dropped nearly $100. read more

Stopped in several weeks ago on one of our trips to Tucson. Ordered lunch to take out to a meeting. The service was polite and prompt. We repeated our order to the employee before accepting it. Sent a follow up email including suggested solution to business, but received no response or apology. Shame!! read more

I had great expectations of having dinner at Maynard's and had made reservations several weeks in advance. My party consisted of a true foodie, a low-fat vegetarian, and a not so picky eater. I selected Maynard's to celebrate New Year's Eve and was more than disappointed in the food. Don't get me wrong, the ambiance is amazing for Tucson, great bar and wonderful "your not in Tucson" style. I had made several calls to insure that there would be a meal for my Vegetarian (low-fat) guest, which till the day prior was assured they could make something or have something. When we asked the waiter, he said he would check with the chef, and he promptly came back saying the chef recommends to the vegan/vegetarian to have the fresh FISH of the day! REALLY?? I couldn't believe what I was hearing, we politely explained fish was not a vegan/vegetarian selection. My Vegetarian guest ended up with a salad for his entree, which is a far cry from a real entree. The other guests ordered the special for the evening roast duck breast, and I ordered the grilled salmon. My friend who had never had duck, didn't like her dish at all, and so I suggested we share, so I gave her half my salmon, and she gave me more than half of her duck... I love duck, and this was the worst I have had, I really should have sent it back (but it wasn't my order!) It was raw, too under cooked, tough and tasteless. The salmon I originally was quite good, but nothing to rave about. All in all, a very unsatisfying meal and a huge disappointment. Perhaps the market is better for sandwiches and burgers, but for dining, not the greatest. read more

It breaks my heart to write this. My girl and I went to Maynard's for a romantic dinner and the restaurant was OFF THEIR GAME. It was lively, the hostess was friendly, the wait staff efficient, knowledgeable and welcoming, BUT the main courses were not good. After a delicious cheese board and a great Sonoita wine to start, the main courses evolved into a comedy of errors. They kept bringing us the wrong main courses TWO TIMES. The waitress did admit her mistake in writing the wrong thing down. When our main courses finally arrived, they had been prepared in a clearly slapdash manner. Worse, my girlfriend's dish was SWIMMING in tart vinegar and inedible. Drinking vinegar straight from the bottle would have been more palatable. Disappointing. We had been their at lunch time many times; this was our first visit at dinner. read more

too bad a place that started out so promising - has turned into just another badly managed, over priced restaurant. I have friends who work here and they are treated really poorly. Too small a town to get away with treating wait staff like crap. There is the weirdest energy here at Maynard"s Market. Some kind of undercurrent that I cannot put my finger on. Staff ( not all but most) are arrogant, rude and condescending and act like they own the joint. Warm IPA and they almost challenge you if you complain! Very unpleasant staff. Its such a shame because owner manager is a very nice lady, and its a nice looking place with good food. The only problem is the weirdness and unpleasantness of the workers there. It has stopped me from returning. read more
