Went her for Mother's Day. Simply outstanding from start to finish. Food was spectacular; service was exceptional. Far and away above the typical mother's day buffet experience at other places. read more

We ate at the Kitchen. We were the first reservation of the night, but were warmly greeted by the host and manager. Our waiter provided excellent service. He was there when we needed something, but did not hover. He also provided excellent recommendations. We started with half a dozen oysters, three from Virginia and three from Canada I believe. Both kinds were excellent, fresh, cold, and briny. They were served on a bed of finely crushed ice, along with a cocktail sauce and habanero sauce. For our entrees we had the scallops and duck breast. The scallops were served with a tomato-bacon jam and corn puree I believe. They were enormous and cooked perfectly, without a hint of chewiness. The duck breast was cooked medium, at the recommendation of the chef. They managed to perfectly crisp the skin so it puffed out slightly, like a chicharron. It was served with an excellent kale salad, and small, fried turnip cubes. The glaze included sorghum that resembled miniature popcorn pieces. We were celebrating a birthday and the restaurant provided a complimentary white chocolate and prickly pear cake. I am not a huge fan of white chocolate normally, but this, like everything else, was excellent. It came with a wonderful sauce and an assortment of fresh berries. Overall a wonderful experience, with superior food and service. We will definitely be back for more, including the happy hour. read more

Excellent Service, Delicious Food, Wonderful Ambiance. You must experience Maynards, you won't be disappointed.

I had the Wheat Berry Salad, sooooo amazing! The bartender, not sure of his name, took great care of me and was so sweet! Love this place.

The service at Maynard's market was very slow and poor. My coffee was made incorrectly even after I asked twice to be sure they understood.

This is the third time here and each time I've been very happy with my lunch and the service received. Once again, a pleasant place to eat outside (where our dog is welcomed) and the sandwiches we had were above the norm (reuben, blt, chicken salad) and the homemade chips hard to resist. Even the ice tea tastes like it was freshly brewed (which is certainly not always the case). While you place your order at a counter then find a place to sit so its not "full service", the staff deserve full service tips as they do an outstanding job - friendly, fast, helpful, keep the area clean. We want to try the less casual dinner restaurant sometime. read more

Unpleasant waitstaff. Not helpful to a first timer.Table was dirty. Not enough dressing on the salad. What's the hype about????

Went to the market for lunch on a Saturday. The food was good. The service was sub par based on the previous reviews and recommendations. Three different employees said they would refill the ice water dispenser and promptly went about their business and forgot to take care of it. read more

this review is for their happy hour only that is now from 4-8. 4-6 you are able to sit inside the actually kitchen but after 6 the new happy hour is only offered in the market. We ordered the burger, mussels, tartare, poutine and oysters. I would like to say that the burger for happy hour used to come with plain fries but that's no longer available. The brioche bun was also very dry. The mussels, poutine, and the oysters were definitely of a smaller portion than what you would normally get in the restaurant. Overall everything was delicious minus the dry bun for the burger, but I waver on giving the market 4 stars as the fries are no longer included and the portion sizes are much smaller. Happy hour would be a good time to get or try 3 items for the price of one entree. On one hand I was disappointed over the portions but on the other the prices for happy hour price seemed pretty reasonable. Just don't expect huge oysters (in fact mines were super tiny) or more than 6 deliciously seasoned mussels in your bowl. Oh and the tartare was delicious, to me it seemed of similar quantity to what you would receive outside of happy hour. read more

Expect to stand around and not be helped the entire time you're there while the staff flirts with other customers.

I want to like this place! Since a manager responded kindly I wanted to revisit again. I'm traveling by train and have about 45 minutes to pickup food. Upon entering I am greeted by Christine (or Christina?). I ordered a breakfast burrito with sausage. I also ordered the same breakfast sandwich as my previous visit except with sausage this time. On the menu I see the "hot pepper jelly". I asked about it with probing questions and she responded by defining its composition and flavor very well. For me, I opted for the peppered gravy. I then asked for a mocha espresso. She asked if I wanted 3 or 4 shots. I then asked about a mocha cappuccino. She was like a Barista Trainer. She very quickly and effectively described the differences in the two drinks and a mocha latte. Literally by percentage of ingredients and visually displaying with her hands, all with a smile on her face. Her delivery was impressive. In the end my drink was made perfectly. Now to the back of the house (which for breakfast the cook space is right in the middle of the restaurant). When I placed my order, there where only a couple people in the restaurant. As I was waiting for my food, I kept watching multiple parties, who entered the restaurant after I placed my order, receive their food orders and leave. I stood in silence and watched. Everything is precooked, then either ends up in the microwave or a food warmer. The only exception is a tortilla grill. Another customer and I asked about to-go utensils and it was quickly stated they would be in with the food. I was handed my bag of food. There was no salsa for my breakfast burrito. I asked for salsa. I was handed a 2 ounce container of salsa (good salsa) which for me was definitely not enough for the large breakfast burrito, but the waitress who handed it to me turned around and left without a word so quickly I felt I'd have to raise my voice to get her attention. Her rush was to help a single customer who just walked in the door. Now I review whats in the bag again and there's no utensils. At this point I don't even want to ask. I walked to the other side of the restaurant and collected my own takeout utensils. Back to the train. Remove the food, take a few pics, no peppered gravy. Back to the restaurant. I walk around to the food prep area. I request peppered gravy that was to go with my breakfast sandwich. I'm informed it will be a couple minutes. I wait, and wait. I watch gravy being poured for other orders. I watch other food being prepared. The gravy is two feet in front of me but I cannot get any. Meanwhile, a Train Conductor walks up behind me and asks how its going. The Conductor and a few other passengers are aware I'm coming in to order food simply because I feel it would only be fair to review the restaurant again after my last visit. I have already had breakfast and coffee. He asks me what am I waiting for. Gravy! He leaves after telling me I'm going to run out of time. After several more minutes, in frustration, I give up. I go back to the front and ask the woman behind the counter her name. She tells me its Christina. I explain to her I'm there to revisit a review and that I thought she rocked it up front, but the back was a hot mess. I told her I cannot wait any longer and need to leave. As I walked to the door she calls to me and asks if there is anything she can do for me. The door behind me swings open and the Train Conductor is standing there and says its time to go, now! I looked at Christina and said all I wanted was the gravy for my breakfast sandwich. Within 20 seconds she had it in my hand and off I went. Okay.... breakfast sandwich still has a really big biscuit as before. But, rather than reduce the size of the biscuit it seems they have increased the quantity of ingredients in the middle. I can appreciate that. It looks good. I gave the sandwich to a culinary student who will report back later today on his opinion. The breakfast burrito is a pretty good size. I think it could have used a little more cheese and potatoes but that's up for interpretation. As everything is precooked and reheated, the eggs where fairly stiff, not fluffy. $6 breakfast burrito, I should get fresh fluffy eggs, not reheated stiff eggs. read more

Cute restaurant/market. Disappointing food. I tried the poutine with duck confit and the bouillabaisse and both were just way too greasy. Like, yeah, I get the fries in the poutine were double-blanched and that it was all centered around the duck, the greasiest and oiliest of birds... but it was not appealing. Except for the cheese curds, which were DELICIOUS. But I don't know--I've had poutine from like, an outdoor food cart (yes, a cart, not a truck) in Canada, and that was much better and not as greasy as what I had at Maynard's. And probably was not $10? The bouillabaisse was so oily I was kind of surprised it didn't congeal by the time I left the restaurant. I also wasn't too big a fan of the flavor. The toast & rouille... the toast tasted kinda burnt, the rouille kinda bland (full disclosure: I was kinda congested. It's March. I have allergies.). Nicely cooked scallops and mussels within it, though. My friend had a steak. She liked it. Our server was super nice. Parking was pretty bad and I'm still not quite sure if I was allowed to park where I did. Legit made my friend run outside halfway through the meal to make sure we hadn't gotten towed or ticketed. read more

My friends and I walked in to the "market" section to try a cuban sandwich. We ordered a cuban sandwich and the guy at the counter told us they were "out of cuban sandwiches". I understand restaurants can rarely run out of menu items but I think it was just the way he said it. Either way it was disappointing. read more

Market only; I will be back, potentially daily! I needed cheese, chocolate, and charcuterie for the cute wine tasting I was hosting at my house. After extensive confusion regarding minimum quantities, pricing, and what was actually available, the chef came out and we spoke. I think I've met him before at Proper, but anyway, he helped me with pairing, and his three diverse cheese choices were just right with my syrah/shiraz-themed evening. He also suggested that I purchase 1 ounce of cheese per person, which was the ideal quantity for savoring, just as he said it would be. I also got pancetta and pre-packaged sausages called landjager. I had never seen them before. They taste like pepperoni, but less greasy. Get them if you ever see them. I got a Kit Kat for my chocolate, as the employees didn't exactly know where the chocolate was, if they had any in stock at all. Ok. I'm cutting the place extensive slack: actually acquiring the cheese and meat took 40 minutes from the time I ordered. But neither the employees nor the manager on duty had sold cheese from the deli before. They didn't seem to know pricing, slicing, or weighing. I guess the construct is all new for the market. Cheeses and meats were on display like at any other market deli, they intend to sell orders like I had made, but I was the maiden voyage. They were super apologetic as they got their act together, and it showed when I got home and opened the cheeses and meats of the highest quality and generosity. I can't wait to try the Banh Mi and oddly named Morning Calm sandwich, which involves kimchi, among other entrees and beers. read more

Came here for dinner... Pros: The food here is incredibly creative. I don't usually use that word to describe food, but it applies here. Great flavors that mix together and really make you say "wow." The appetizers were just spot on, and the pork schnitzel was to die for. In short, THE FOOD HERE DESERVES 5 Stars. Also, the ambience, of the restaurant, with the valet parking, is really quite nice. This is a great date spot. Cons: Our waiter was subpar. He offered very little in friendliness, interaction, or communication. I had hoped he would promote the restaurant more, and the unique and fun things to order. The food here is definitely something special. Instead, he took our order as if it was Chile's, and it was just "get me the info I need to bring you your food attitude." Also my Moscow mule seemed a bit watered down and flavorless. Maybe the bartender was having an off night? All in all, these cons can be reasonably explained by the possibility that our waiter has a new toddler and didn't get much sleep last night. We had a great time, and the restaurant has a lot to offer. Just wished he, and the drinks, had taken it to the next level. Whatever that means. read more

Never disappointed at Maynards. Outstanding Arizona wines. The celery bisque and bistro salad made for excellent appetizers. As main dishes we had trout and swordfish respectively. The fish was exquisitely prepared, leaving its inherent flavor come through, not smothering it in sides. To top it off, an outstanding peach budino. Attentive prompt service. Great experience. read more

Really cute set up and the food is super fresh and delicious! My boss and I dined here together and sat outside. Just be aware that it is right next to a train track so you'll have to pause conversation for while as the trains pass through during certain times of day. I think kids would really enjoy watching the trains roll through though! read more

Read the reviews and was looking forward to the meal. My chicken was dry and overcooked lacking flavor. My son in law ordered the seared duck and said it was over cooked and dry as well. Was very disappointed since I read good reviews from others but that was not my experience. Definitely overpaid for what we got and will not go back here a second time. read more

Visited Tucson and my friend showed me this place during happy hour. Bartender was a really chill guy and the prices were pretty good as was the beer. The atmosphere was also something else as it was by the train station so it gave off a real interesting vibe. Would come back read more

Delicious Mother's Day Brunch! My husband, daughter, and I had a relaxing brunch in the upstairs dining room at Maynards this afternoon. The brunch was a hit with my daughter, especially since they made her homemade scrambled eggs and had chocolate chip-chocolate cake. Prime rib, salmon, made-to-order omelettes, buttermilk fried chicken, roasted potatoes, lemon coconut cake...the menu goes on and on. Needless to say I was pampered today. read more

This is the second time I have been to Maynards for happy hour and it will definitely be my last. We were a party of four and we ordered numerous food items and drinks from the counter. Nobody advised us that we would be expected to fend for ourselves when our various dishes arrived outside and that ALL the tables outside are reserved. We were actually left holding our plates and drinks and I was told by the waitstaff that we could NOT sit down at a table that was offered to us by a very nice couple that were finished with their meal and were leaving. At that point I asked to speak to the manager and I asked him what we were supposed to do with our food and beverages. He rather begrudgingly set up a table for us, but he made no apologies and acted like we were putting him out. It really spoiled our night out. On top of the extremely poor (rude) service, the food was mediocre at best. We will definitely be exploring other options for happy hour in Tucson on our next visit. read more

One of the better non-Mexican restaurants in Tucson. Have been here with larger groups and they're very accommodating. Food is consistent, good for sharing, from the creative to the traditional. Wait staff is good about recommending wines within stated price points, no snootiness. Not afraid to say "I'd choose this over that" when asked about menu items, which I really appreciate. read more

So much to like: Good location, outside seating, interesting menu...just really want another option here in Tucson for a nice meal! We have tried three times now and every time there is something just enough 'off' about the experience to make me leave wondering if I will be back. I had the outdoor dinning experience where half way through the meal a band showed up and blew us off the patio. We were mid-way through a meal with friends and could not leave. Annoying to say the least, really annoying when you can't even have a conversation over the $300+ dollar meal you are having. The help here is classic Tucson - trying really hard, but completely lacking experience and training. I don't think that I should have to help your staff understand the menu and decode the wine list... We HAVE had some really nice food here, but we have also endured long waits, lost reservations (last time we had to make three calls and the restaurant called back twice), etc. Over all? Total amateur hour. Please, don't expect to learn your business on my dime... The valet parking is fantastic though!!! Probably will not go back again... read more

I went to the bar area to meet friends for a wine tasting. Even though I'm a regular, I was late and was not upset when they told me that I was too late because I wasn't a wine club member. No worries. I was late and got there with a half hour to spare. I went to the bar to order a glass of wine and I was asked to get into the food line. I ordered my glass and was given a "number" in case i ordered more later. It was like ordering an iced tea at Starbucks but ok. I stood with my friends and my number and watched lots of people get served at the bar. After awhile I take my number and go to the bar and ask for my wine and the response is "Well if you wouldn't keep moving spots." Even though I took my number and stayed in one place with my friends. Terrible service and attitude. read more

Upscale place. I like coming for brunch, the patio out back is really nice. The food is good. Never been for dinner though.

Booked Father's Day brunch reservations via Open Table. When we arrived, we were told " there is a problem with Open Table reservations, they automatically reserve an outside table." We were offered a seat at the bar, which we declined. read more

I just wandered in from the Transportation Museum next door and had the Ham and Brie Sammie/Avocado Grapefruit salad combo.. the food is delicious, but the staff is welcoming and friendly and the kitchen is clean and tightly run!! This is a cute little place I found while staying at the nearby Marriort hotel. Good good, great service. I'll be back.

This place used to be amazing. Went for my birthday, and the food was mediocre. Even the fries weren't very good. The atmosphere however, is still five star and hard to beat. The service also was attentive. The food was disappointing however and I will pick another restaurant for special occasions in the future. read more

The owners of Hotel Congress have just recently opened up this great restaurant and market located in the Historic Depot. They buy food locally when they can to serve in the restaurant & sell it in the market. The interior is beautifully restored! I really felt like I was taken to another place in time! I had a great lunch and the best soy latte I've ever had! A great addition to Tucson's growing downtown! read more

Had dinner at Maynard's Kitchen which is was pretty fancy (Maynards Market is casual). The food was delish. A little pricey but nice. Enjoyed having dinner while we waited for our train. Can get a burger and fries for $16. Other entrees range from $20-$45. Small portions but taste is nice. Nice ambiance. With he trains going by. Feels like a train cart. But fancy. read more

We arrived to Maynard's for breakfast on a Friday morning. There were not many people there but we waited about 20 minutes for an egg sandwich and cheddar biscuit with peppered gravy. The eggs on the egg sandwich were cold. They were cooked in a salamander then crumbled up and thrown on the English muffin. The cheddar biscuits with gravy were stone cold and the biscuit was doughy. It was horrible. I was disappointed when we first arrived because the menu offered was not the menu seen online, but decided to give it a go anyway. That was a major mistake. read more

This place is beyond exceptional! Had the Short rib hash, Beignet and coffee. All were outstanding!!

Maynard's is a great date place for the following reasons. They have a huge bar and it's great to people watch, you can buy wine, sweet treats, breakfast lunch or dinner and they're open really late. There's an awesome patio to watch the train go by with live music of all different kinds, and a more intimate ritzy dinner section if you like cozier quieter dining. I've tried the salumi plate with meats and cheeses, the cheeseburger with French fries, and the pizza all of which were very good. The staff is always busy, very helpful and attentive. I appreciate it when I'm finished with my drink another is offered without even having to ask. The only downfall is that it's a little warm inside and I feel like I need to go home and freeze myself after sitting there for a couple hours. They do have wine tastings during the summer which is a great way to get to know which wine pleases your palate. The happy hour is a great time to try plates at a discounted and smaller portion. Great way to represent Tucson, thank you Maynard's. read more

I have been holding off on trying Maynards and I wish I would have passed on this occasion as well. Needless to say my experience gave me no reason to want to come back. My sis and I came after hanging out at Tucson Meet Yourself for a cheese plate and a bottle of wine. We seat at the bar and were greeted by the bartender who offered us a food menu. Since we were there for wine we asked for the list and settled on a bottle. I needed to wash my hands so I asked where the restrooms where. If you have ever been to this place before you know that it is a journey to get to them. When I got back the wine was poured and my sister had ordered our cheese plate. When it had arrived it was served with 5-1ounce pieces of cheese a few slices of apples, a fig cut in half, a small bunch of grapes and a piece of honeycomb. A plate of bread and butter was served as well. I am not sure if this was part of the plate or just served as an accompaniment. We inquired about some crostini or crackers (something I think goes better with cheese then a thick slice from a baguette) but no they don't have anything like that at really?? The cheese was OK I couldn't tell you what they were, the descriptions were on the menu which we no longer had and they were not explained when they were brought out. I might have asked the bartender but after he dropped off the cheese but most of the time he was either away from the bar and when he was behind the bar he was occupying himself with some reading material that he had on the other end. On the rare occasions when he came over he never once offered to refill our empty glass instead leaving that to me as soon as he walked away to get back to his reading or what not. Since we were the only ones at the bar for the majority of our stay being busy was not an excuse that can be used. I can understand if you read this and think does this really deserve 2 stars but there wasn't much that had to be done to make me happy.I have had MUCH better cheese plates and MUCH better serves. At least the wine was good but since it was a screw top not much had to be done with that. 1out of 3 not a good way to impress a first time customer. So at a place with the reputation, atmosphere and prices you would think that serves would be a priority here. I mean folks we are not talking sports bar here. read more

I was expecting more from this establishment. The sangrias were mediocre at best. My salmon was just OK and my dates steak was just OK. Service was very slow. However on the positive side, sitting in the patio was very pleasant and the music in the background was also very pleasant. After tip, this was $100 meal and certainly was not worth it. read more

Overpriced food for what you get, 2011 and 2012 awards...........FOR WHAT? This place doesn't even hold up to the chain restaurants. Save your money and find a nice well known restaurant for a nice dinner. This place only survives on magazine publicity. I have had way better for way less. Salads are a joke, steaks are a joke, chicken is dry. totally unacceptable product at these prices. I have no idea why this is a goto place...... Service gets 5/5. So if you want good service and or nice patio this is a good place but the food... Food: first off is over priced. It has fancy names but is not worth the 20$+ a plate. I had the duck and the rice was not cooked and the duck not very flavorful either. I would not order this ever again. I might consider going there for a drink outside but not with the cost. So unfortunately despite the great service I have to give 2 stars since the food was so horrible. Tip for Maynard's: you are almost there to being great just focus on better quality control with your entrees. read more

I was really disappointed in this place. The service was great, the food was way overpriced for the amount you got, and my husband could barely finish his meal because it actually made him sick. For the amount of money we spent on our tab; a party of 6 was over $300, I wanted to go to a fast food drive thru afterwards because I was still starving! Never again, and I've told everyone that I know, that it's not worth the hype. The food was horrible. They do have a great wine selection though. read more
