Maynards' sis certainly a nice place, imaginative dishes, nice surroundings and good service, but especially with an overlay of live music in the background (even at the other end of the room), it is hard to hear your dining companions. We had the schnitzel and spatzle, salmon, burger, gnocchi and a steak. All were good, not great. read more

Maynard's is nearly always a first choice for a special event, a meet-n-greet, dining with friends. From the suitable dining car feel to the food, the nod to farm-to-table and the service, Maynard's is a top-notch choice. Lighting, though, continues to be a problem. The lamps that at first seem romantic and subdued are decidedly ineffectual to anyone at the table not seated directly lamp-side. At least offer penlights to the patrons, please. That aside, once able to decipher the menu in the dimness of the aisle seats, every ounce of the meal contains the most wonderous taste surprises: pickled onion; membrillo; hard cheeses; quail with risotto stuffing; tepary beans; carrot veloute. A hundred deliciously surprising flavors to engage the tastebuds. read more

I love coming to Maynards for meetings because of the great community table. The lunch menu includes salads and sandwiches and they always have a tempting display of pastries. Today I tried the turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread. It had a cranberry mustard that was amazing! read more

Salads and sandwiches are really good. The cubano sándwich is my favorite, the coffees are little expensive in my opinion

Overall awesome food and great service. Everything was great except the fact that most of the food is super rich, just not my style. Use caution when ordering items as some contain a lot more cheese and cream than you might be accustomed to. I plan on going back for sure, will just order lighter dishes. read more

Perfect lunch/brunch, Sandwich and salad place, LOVED it. Really thought I wouldn't due to it being a salad joint, but I was actually very impressed by the quality of their salads and sandwiches! Cute little cafe like setting. Nice place to bring out of town family and friends. Not to mention it's said to be haunted. read more

Maynard's is a go to spot in downtown Tucson. Top shelf across the board in one of the most hip settings in Tucson. The owners of this establishment should take pride, as they have help preserve and enhance the character of city of Tucson. The classic interior design in the old Train Depot is warm and comfortable. The service is professional and warm to match. Make sure to stop and have a drink at the bar, happy hour especially. The barkeep, Eddie, a keeps everybody happy during all hours of operation. Mixology kicked up a few notches here. French Bistro food with a bit of Southwest feel thrown in makes for a excellent meal. This cornerstone restaurant is close to all major entertainment in Tucson located at a stones throw to Hotel Congress and Rialto Theaters. In my top 5 places to hang in Tucson. read more

Huge shady patio with attractive plantings, fixtures, mature trees and mountain view. Plus it is at the Historic Train Station so there's the fun of a train now and then. A definite keeper. Best peanut butter cookie ever, too. Market Greens salad with kale instead, pearl barley, golden raisins, other chopped goodies. Wonderful stop -- stumbled on it and so glad! read more

What a gem! We are staying at Hotel Congress across the street and came here for dinner. We enjoyed it so much that we came back for lunch at the deli counter portion of the restaurant. The bouillabaisse was phenomenal, and the sourdough (?) bread is next level. 5 stars! read more

Driving around downtown looking for food and happened upon Maynards. The atmosphere inside is very welcoming and eclectic. Menus are provided when you are waiting in line. The food was amazing! I highly recommend the Jerk Chicken and Chicken Salad sandwich. My main issue is with the service and time in which our food was brought to us. As we waited, my friend received her food first. After 15 minutes we asked a passing waiter for our food. 5 minutes later they explained there was a mix up. 5 minutes AFTER THAT, we received our food with a quick apology. I won't be returning. read more

Despite living near/in downtown for 6 years, I only came to Maynard's for the first time about a week ago. I had some sort of Cuban sandwich, which was like a warm culinary orgasm. The staff was very friendly and regularly checked on us to see if we needed anything. I'll definitely be coming back! read more

We're newcomers to Tucson from SoCal. We had our pick of the lot for good food there. Maynard's is on par with the best of them. Service, venue, drinks, and the meals were all top-notch. My wife had a mahi dish, I opted for steak. Both dishes were presented well and had combinations of ingredients which worked together perfectly. Great place for a date night. With drinks, appetizer and dinner, we got out for under 100.00 (before tip). For food and service of this quality, it was well worth it. read more

Can't beat sitting at the bar talking with Eddie. The best bartender in town, I plop down and just tell my man to make me "something". Have never been disappointed. The man is a magician. He can do the standards and he can explore new boundaries. Tonight the autumn tart, delicious and earthy. And my favorite the burger with the out if this world pomme frites. Outstanding! read more

Had lunch here while visiting Tucson and we were more then satisfied! Great service, amazing food and nice atmosphere. Sat on the patio on a rainy day. I had the Caprese sandwich and added Chicken, my boyfriend got the Cubano. We also got a cup of the loaded potato soup. Boot sandwiches were great, really good bread, and came with homemade chips. Wish we lived here so we could go all the time! read more

My family and I came here for dinner last Saturday. I reserved a table online which was so easy and convenient. If you're coming here for dinner on the weekend, I would highly recommend making a reservation. The restaurant is gorgeous, it's a renovated train station with the most beautiful patio right by the tracks. We were able to sit at a booth by the window, which was very nice. There is also a stunning bar which has every drink imaginable. My only criticism of the venue is that the lighting is way too dim at night. I love the dark, sultry vibe, but it was a little hard to read my menu. Maynards is upscale and quite expensive, so dress appropriately and be prepared to pay more. It's the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion with a small group. Our waitress (young lady with short, blonde hair) couldn't have been better, she was so sweet and attentive. She made excellent food and beverage selections and comped my glass of wine when it was spilled, no questions asked. To eat, we started with the baked mushroom (mushrooms and goat cheese in a pastry shell) and the heirloom tomato salad. Both were very delicious, but the tomato salad could have used a bit more cheese. For dinner, my brother had the pork schnitzel, my mom had the wild salmon and I had the mushroom risotto. Both my mom and brother agreed that their dishes were fantastic. However, I was rather disappointed with the texture and presentation of my risotto. The flavor was nice, but it was pretty watery and was served on a plate, rather than in a bowl. I've never had risotto served on a plate before, it seemed quite odd. To drink, I had a glass of white sangria and the Chartron la Fleur Bordeaux, both were excellent. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Maynards and I would definitely come again. I'm pleased that they have added more vegetarian dishes to the menu, perhaps they could just tweak the risotto and tomato salad. read more

In town for an art festival this wkd and was looking for a place to have dinner. Their website says the market closes at 9 but the kitchen is open until midnight. Live this place. My husband and I were looking for a place to have lunch and Maynard's caught our eye. I ordered half. Sloppy Joe with a salad and my husband got the corn-beef. My sloppy joe was great and brought back childhood memories of the sandwiches my mom made only this was way better. The salad was light and refreshing and I liked that the dressing wasn't overwhelming but complimentary. My husband said the corn beef was amazing. One of the best he's had. The staff here is very friendly and made us feel very welcome. read more

A pleasure for brunch or dinner. Although the patio can be noisy (due to train traffic), it is also an interesting and unusual place to eat. The wine list is amazing, and the food is usually excellent. They have a few items that are best forgotten (the tomato risotto), but one can easily compensate with the pommes frites, pasta, or variety of steaks. Even on the crowded patio or dining room, the staff are cheerful and welcoming. read more

Lovely little eatery off of Congress at the old train depot. Great little sandwiches, salads, and their in-store potatoe chips are great. We sat outside on the railyard patio on a beautiful fall day. All-in-all, a lovely luncheon. I would certainly eat here again. read more

Was so excited to have dinner at Maynard's and it turned out to be a disappointment. The service was lacking, we ordered a bottle of wine and had to pour our own glasses after the waiter plopped it down on the table which never changed through our dinner even after it was pointed out to the waiter. After ordering appetizers we had to flag down the waiter to order dinner. Had to ask numerous times to have dirty plates cleared. Ordered the trout which was under cooked and came out with the head after explicitly asking that it be removed before coming to the table. Scallops were cold. The mussels were the best part of the dinner, they were excellent. Having the trains go by was a treat. It saddens me that this was not a better review as I so wanted it to be. read more

Nothing special for breakfast. Ordered the smoked salmon toast, after we were seated (and had paid) they told us they were out of salmon. They also brought us a Cubano sandwich instead of the cubano latte. Minimal avocado on my avocado toast (it was tasty, but a more appropriate serving wouldve been 2 slices). My husband got the breakfast burrito - it was good but there was maybe 2 teaspoons of chorizo in there. On the upside the cubano latte was delicious, and the waitstaff did offer us a refund for the confusion with our order. read more

Interesting, historic building, friendly service, delicious salad & some of the best iced-t I've had.

I hadn't been here in 3 years and was SUPER sad to see the market part gone. Its now a long kitchen in the middle and a coffee bar basically. The pre-made food to go, the cute isles, the cards and little gifts, and fridges with lots of drink choices are all gone. Its now a basic little kitchen, X the market part. I didn't have any of the food, I didn't really see any vegan choices. My friend enjoyed her half tuna sandwich. I tried the potato chips it came with which were bland and unsalted. I do love the large outdoor patio out back. The plants and trees were super pretty. Its dog friendly too. A nice little oasis downtown but the menu wasn't very enticing to me. If I need an outdoor oasis downtown La Cocina cannot be beat. Maynards also seems to be leaning towards wine with clubs, tastings and get togethers revolving about that. I think this market is geared towards people with a refined palette for coffee, wine and foods. Its not my cup of tea, so to speak! Its definitely a niche market. read more

Great food. Elegant atmosphere and pretty good service. We had the mussels which I found to be top notch.

Little overpriced but the food is AMAZINGGGGGG!!! And their tomato soup is just everything u need

I have to say that there have been many improvements since my first review. Thank you Maynards.

I was surprisingly not pleased about Maynard's after reading all the decent reviews I expected a lot more. I don't live in Tucson but my girlfriend does and I only get to see her about 2 nights every couple months so its a special occasion when I do make it up to Tucson. Wanting to take her somewhere nice we booked Maynards. Arriving we had a hard time trying to find parking which wasn't the restaurants fault as downtown Tucson is undergoing some major improvements. Once we got inside the hostess was nice. We sat down and it took awhile for our waiter to make his way to us. We both were really excited and hungry for a good meal, the bread was extremely slow coming out and was rock hard, the service was not the best, our waiter was slow and didn't seem very busy even though it was Friday night. I ordered "The Burger" and my girlfriend had the Filet Mignon. The food made it out decently timed, but I was unhappy when I took a bite into my burger I ordered it Medium and it was burnt to the crisp, way past over done and had no color, just burnt black. For a 20 dollar burger it was not what I expected had no flavor what-so-ever. But the bacon I bought for an extra 2.00 on the burger was really good so that's a positive. Now for the positives, the Bacon was really good, the size of the burger was perfect. And the French fries on the side were amazing. My girlfriend loved her steak and I took a bite and it was really good so I was happy with her meal and she loved my fries as well. Overall it wasn't that bad of an experience and I would dine there again, my rating is so low due to the burger not being cooked very good, might of been the waiters fault or the chief just wasn't feeling on his burger game that night. If we were to go again and I am sure we will I would definitely not be getting the burger and focus on there steak which was really good. read more

I took my out of town family guests to Maynard's for Monday night socializing, the courtyard was packed. My nephew had a burger, fries and his niece the Mahi salad. Plus, niece ordered a Bloody Mary to be enjoyed before the salad. The order took close to an hour, I repeatedly had to go up to the counter to ask for the cocktail, it finally came after the salad was delivered. The bartenders were rude, service terrible for a fairly pricey restaurant. My nephew liked his burger, though, even though it took an hour read more
