This was a really great restaurant when they first opened. The food was great and the staff friendly. But we've noticed that the quality of food and service has been slowly becoming worse over the years. The last time we where there, our waiter was lovely but the food came to us cold and there was nothing special about it. We ordered the chicken wings ( which where dry and overcooked) and the lettuce in my salad wasn't fresh and had already began in wilt. It seems like not only their offerings but the quality of their ingredients is subpar for a restaurant trying to compete and be viewed as one that could make it in Seattle. Honestly, it was a waste of money and could have been done better at home at a quarter of the cost. The service we received before that was horrible . The waiter ( I didn't catch his name but we where sitting in the bar area) was snarky and sarcastic. I wish I would have talked to the manager (but I didn't). However, their drinks are good and it's a nice atmosphere. Half the time it's hard to find someone who is at the counter at their cafe but if you get lucky to find someone there, their coffee is good. read more

Very unsatisfied with the food quality and the service ordered a salad for $16 with only lettuce on it and very dry bread that you couldn't chew. Surf and turf plate was $54 and it was missing the lobster as they were out even it was on the menu. Steak sauce we needed for the meat, it took over 20 minutes to bring it even we kept asking over and over. I don't recommend this restaurant to others. read more

Sunday brunch was awesome. Maynard's has been closed for a while and it was great to see them back. The new staff worked really hard to get food out and take care of the customers. We had a breakfast burrito and the Denver omelette. Food was hot, well prepared and came out quickly. The pink elephant coffee is one of my wife's favorites. And she definitely missed it. read more

Could I make this better at home? That's the question that I ask myself at any expensive restaurant. Unfortunately, the food at Maynards is just average. There just wasn't anything great about the appetizer or main or dessert. All of it was well-presented, but not any tastier than your local diner. The waitstaff was great, the kitchen crew was obviously working very hard and everyone was outgoing, but the food needs a rethink. More interesting spices for the mains and fresher made desserts would be a good start. Chicken had a lot going on but still managed to be bland and Black Forest cake was tough and seemed like either a day old or overcooked. Not worth the price point. read more

Visiting family in Bremerton and had a wonderful experience and lunch at Maynard's today. We all sampled each other's lunch and I loved everything I tried. I especially enjoyed the pumpkin soup and the apple walnut salad. It was the perfect fall lunch! Can't wait to come back next month. Next time I want to try the poke bowl or flatbreads. Good atmosphere, and nice selection of food and drink choices. Unfortunately, all three times I have been there the food just falls short. I was excited to try the poke salad, but the flavors were just bland. My husband's French dip was lacking in flavor as well. The bun wasn't even toasted, so it was soggy and bland! The only good thing we're the fries. In addition, the service is lacking somewhat as well. When we arrived, it was a very busy night and the waiter said "sorry for the delay, but I am about 90% done with this tricky transaction, so I'll be with you as soon as I can." Well, we ended up waiting nearly an hour. I understand things like that happen. But if he had the time to stop by and check in with us verbally, he could have got our drink order or an appetizer order. And in the end they could have offered to comp something for us for the wait. Service and food need to improve. I would love to see this restaurant thrive. We need a good place and it has so much potential. read more

I, my husband and son visited Maynard's (which calls itself "A Culinary Experience", on Jan 4, 2023 for my birthday. I had been there before, always having a satisfactory experience. So. After reviewing the menu, both my husband and I decided on the surf 'n turf, which was king crab legs and sirloin steak. My son ordered a steak as well. All were ordered rare. The waitress came back a minute later - they did not have king crab legs, would we like the Dungeness (the server was great, no problem there) instead. No, thank you - guess I'll just have the sirloin. My husband did get the Dungeness crab. I wanted a baked potato, but they only have those (I think) Thursday/Friday/Saturday. They have Kitsap potatoes. Which were larger smoked new potatoes. Which, it turned out, were horrible (in my opinion). Big, dry potatoes, I guess the smokey flavor was okay - but no butter/sour cream. Anyway, back to the experience. We finally got our steaks. My husband's was well done, as was my son's. Mine was medium-well. Of course we sent them back. The waitress took our plates and utensils (with our half-eaten potatoes and "seasonal vegetables"), assuring us we would get a full plate back. She did box up the potatoes we had). 15-20 minutes later, here come our steaks. Just steaks. Nothing else on the plate. Following along with the server was a guy, who I suppose was the manager, though I can't remember if he introduced himself. He stood over our table and demanded that we each cut through the MIDDLE of our steaks so he could confirm they were rare. I didn't want to cut through the middle, but he insisted. After confirmation, he left. After all was done, we had probably been there at least 2 hours if not more. My husband had 2 or 3 glasses of wine, I had a hard cider, my son had a soft drink. No dessert (I don't even think that was offered, though I can't swear it. When the bill came, it was $238-something. BUT! Instead of just replacing the steaks, all 6 were on the bill. 3 added, 3 taken off, 3 added. Which I found to be really strange. So, when my husband put his card in to pay, The tip percentages popped up (suggested amounts - 15%, 20% etc). The 20% showed $74 and some odd dollars, which I thought was high, but tapped that option. Total bill: $314.84!!!!! For, let's review: 3 steaks, 1 order of crab, 2/3 glasses of wine, 1 soda, 1 cider. WTF!!! After we left, we realized the 20% tip amount included EVERYTHING, including the steaks that we didn't eat. In the end, though the waitress was apologetic, the manager did not apologize for the inconvenience. NOTHING was comped. Dessert "on the house" was not offered as an apology. None of the expected compensation that happens at a "culinary experience" or "fine" restaurant. An overall horrible experience for what was supposed to be a special occasion. Oh, and I was hungry an hour after we got home because basically, I had a steak, a cider, and water (nothing else - no sides or dessert) for my birthday dinner. I'm an outside sales rep and needed a quick lunch Togo. Placed my order of mushroom risotto and a seltzer water with the nice gal in their coffee shop. It was out in about 5 minutes and I was on my way. Ten buck for the risotto and seltzer water was a great deal and tasty. You'd pay at least that for fast food and this was way better. Food presentation is good but taste is lacking, bland, unimpressive. I wouldn't go back again. I cook better meal than of what we have tried in this restaurant. The food is only about the appearance but not the taste. The Salmon ramen was cold instead of hot, the rice in sushi bowl is very cold and hard like old rice in the fridge and served straight to customer with slightly seared tuna and some vegetable on the plate, the rockfish was so bland it taste similar to water, the Baja taco she'll was very soggy before we can even eat it, instead of lemon on the side so customer can squeeze the amount of lemon desired for Baja tacos the cook already mixed it with the filling and put too much lemon that it tasted too sour, the octopus with bean dip was nothing special either, the fries with coleslaw and cheese is a little bit better than the rest of the food we ordered. The server that brought us coffee didn't even think about giving us teaspoons to stir our coffee with. We also had to ask the server to give us extra spoons. read more

So bad. All of our enjoyment was sucked out of our lunch. The food is bland and not quality. Shrimp tacos was weak and just fell flat. The flat bread looked liked it was frozen store bought pizza and tasted pretty bland. Instead of sinking a ton of money into the atmosphere of this place ( feels corporate), they probably should have spent more on the chefs, quality of food, etc. This place couldn't be any more disappointing. Worst steaks ever I bought the Tomahawk for 79 dollars and wasn't even cooked I'm pretty sure it was still partially frozen inside I couldn't even eat it. It was a to go order and the whole order came up to 206.00 and I left a 50.00 tip. Talked to the Manager and at least I will get my tip back because they definitely didn't deserve it. Maybe the in house dinning is better because you can send it back but definitely don't do take out unless it the French Dip sandwich. read more

The restaurant and atmosphere is gorgeous, the staff is great and the food presentation is fantastic but the food is just BLAND. We had the Flat Steak, Kids Hot Dog and the Tandori Chicken and they were just bland. The food appeared well seasoned, BUT the chefs relied on appearance more then the actual taste. The vegetables weren't well seasoned either just roasted. For the price I expected it to be as delicious as it looked but it was just empty lie's like a over dressed chicken pretending to be something that it wasn't. Maynard's doesn't leave me wanting to come back for more. At least they know how to cook a kids hot dog, sadly that had more flavor then the steak and chicken combined. read more

I think that this restaurant has wonderful potential if they stay hyper focused on the food quality. The space is beautiful, with soaring ceilings and tasteful decor. The offerings at the bar are high-quality for those who enjoy spirits. Service was attentive. Our family of four started with the bread board which was very nice. I had a vegetarian option which was half a head of smoked cauliflower, a large sized wedge of cabbage, numerous sauces. Unfortunately it was not prepared the way it was supposed to be - with being very cold and undercooked. That said as soon as I mentioned it, the dish was whisked away and comped, and I was also comped a spinach artichoke flatbread which was served hot and it was very tasty with a flavorful well baked crust and toppings. Well done on the flatbread. Two of our party had the pork chop- sadly a bit tough. They were beautifully presented with sides and just need more focus on the actual cooking. The side dishes were well received. We finished off with an French Opera dessert, creamy and delicious. I will be back on Saturday with a friend and will try out a salad and side dish. I am keeping an open mind and I am hoping that the intent of this restaurant/community resource is fully carried through with exceptional food cooking and flavors. I have eaten at many top-quality restaurants throughout the country and would dearly love to leave a review stating that Maynards stands head and shoulder with them. I look forward very much to the cooking classes, to dropping in for a coffee and morning pastry and would love to make this place a beloved part of my life. I'm currently sitting at a table with empty mixed drinks, 65 minutes from being seated and no one has taken our order Please bring food and drinks out on a tray. No one wants to eat and drink from glasses and plates that were touched by multiple sets of hands. I'm not sure if you have food runners.... I can't see from my vantage point... But it seems like the waitresses are bringing out food and can't catch up with taking food and drink orders. This is for the Cafe', I haven't eaten at the restaurant yet. I didn't expect a lot of food, but this was silly. We spent over $16 for two very average pastries (chocolate croissant and everything croissant), a brewed coffee and an americano. The americano was bitter (too much pressure?), the drip coffee was average and they wanted me to pay another $2.75 for a refill! Just feels like pretentious hype at this point. Second visit to Maynard's tonight. Both times I was impressed. I did notice there was a change in the menu between visits . The first time I had pork belly. Bomb! So good! Perfect! Couldn't have been better! Second time I seen it was removed from menu . Not worried about it because I wanted to order something different. The lobster rolls were just what we had in Maine and we got to sit right by the fireplace in comfy seats and really felt we were celebrating! Pretty much anything that can go wrong with a simple lunch...DID! Food was delivered cold, twice. Drinks are tasty but you will get a full glass of ice and I do mean FULL! For these prices short shots in the drinks is a real let down. The only bright spot for the entire lunch was the service by our waitress Tori. She was attentive, friendly and took all the heat generated by the kitchen's failures. The biggest problem I see is that this place is pretending to be a Michelin star restaurant but no real chef is present as the mistakes are so basic. COLD food, Bad plating, No seasoning and archaic kitchen to table delivery. Give me a break. Lunch for two was $100. That was for one app, one entree, one soup, three drinks and one desert. I must confess my review reflects my extreme disappointment with this all new restaurant. Seems like they know nothing about the restaurant business or the people of the Kitsap Co. I probably will not revisit for some time to see if they survive or adapt to a workable plan. This is Kitsap, not Seattle. Not the post I thought I'd be writing before I left to go eat. This was a place I was really looking forward to trying. Staff was friendly which was nice but the food was mediocre. It seemed like it was our servers first night serving food ever and I was eating dinner while the people I was with were ordering desert. One of my guest ordered Mac and cheese which out of the 3 meals ordered was best. Her husband ordered rock fish which tasted like really bland fish stick and I ordered the creole pork chop. Really my biggest complaint was that the food was just so incredibly bland. For desert I ordered key lime cheesecake and couldn't taste any resemblance to key lime anything. Tasted like regular cheesecake. I will be going back to give it another chance maybe once the menu changes. Hopefully this was just a bad night for them read more

The resturant is beautiful. Great views. We went there on day 2, and I ordered the pork sandwitch. It did not have a roll, they ran out. Served on small piece of bread. I was surprised to see it was made with fatty pork belly. I was so hungry, I ate it. Not what I expected. I hope they iron out the kinks. read more

I had lunch for the first time and ordered the daily special sandwich. It was huge so we split it. The bun was way too thick (3 inches) and a thin layer of chopped beef with grilled onion, which was dry. It helped that it came with au jus. The pumpkin curry soup had good flavor but not much like soup. It was so thick I could turn my spoon upside down and it wouldn't fall off. To end the experience, there was a hair on my plate. It is a beautiful huge facility with lots of room for events and great view. I might try it again just to give it another honest chance, but disappointed because I was hoping we were getting a good quality place in town. read more

Hubby and I were there the first week for lunch. I was disappointed, to say the least. I have Celiac disease (gluten is verrboten) and about the only thing on the menu without gluten (except for high-priced steak) was a salad. So, that's what I ordered. Asked for panna cota which was good and a very small serving. Plus, it had graham cracker crumbs around the base, which I tried to scrape away as I was still very hungry. The coffee I ordered never arrived. Hubby ordered vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. A very small (smallest I've ever seen for ice cream) scoop arrived without the chocolate sauce. We didn't say anything as we wanted to leave. I was still hungry when I left. Sorry,, but we won't be returning. Also, this is not a place to go for an intimate dinner. Very high ceilings and lots of tables - reminded me of a cafeteria in an airport hanger. read more

Good ambiance, food so-so. We ordered the Pear and Mushroom Ravioli, the Carbonara, and the Silk Turtle Cake. The ravioli was excellent, especially after adding some bacon to it...although for an up charge to add bacon, it was surprising that there was only a slight sprinkling of bacon added. The Carbonara was bad. It was a bland pasta dish that was in no-way a carbonara. They threw ingredients together and called it a carbonara. Carbonaras don't have fresh mozzarella or arugula. They also used bacon (instead of guanciale or pancetta) which is what I do at home to save some money or a trip to the store, but don't expect at such a nice-looking restaurant. The cake was alright but was obviously out of the freezer. If they waited until serving to add the walnuts and the caramel, it wouldn't taste so obviously premade. I don't expect fresh, but I'd like to see them make the effort. Service was good, I'll probably go back for a pizza and a beer. read more
