I first noticed the "Opening Soon" sign for Mayan Bar and Noodles while driving past a while back, and I was really curious to see what kind of food they were going to serve. When they finally popped up on DoorDash, I thought, hey, this is a great time to try them.
I didn't know exactly what type of food Mayan Bar and Noodles was going to serve. Obviously, I knew there would be noodles, but noodles can cover so many different cultures and cuisines. Once I looked through the menu, I saw that there were definitely a lot of Chinese/Szechuan influences. I've now eaten their food three times--twice through DoorDash and once at the restaurant--and overall, I've been really happy with what I've tried.
The first time, I ordered the mapo tofu over noodles. I'm used to seeing mapo tofu served with rice, so having it over noodles was a refreshing change. It was delicious, and I really liked their take on the dish. I also ordered the chili oil chaoshou dumplings, which were so good. The dumplings were juicy, and I loved the tang and spice of the sauce.
The next time I ordered through DoorDash, I tried their Szechuan cold noodles. This was probably the one dish I thought was just okay. It didn't seem quite cold enough, and it ate a little dry. I would have liked a little more sauce, as well as more peanuts and green onion. It was still good, but I definitely felt like it needed something more.
Then I happened to be in the neighborhood and decided to stop by for dinner. I ordered the chicken golden soup with chicken chaoshou, fried mushrooms, and tomato egg noodles.
I loved the tomato egg noodles. They were just so good that I literally almost finished the entire bowl. At the same time, I was really enjoying the chicken golden soup with chicken chaoshou. The broth was incredibly tasty and full-bodied. If I hadn't already been getting full from the tomato egg noodles, I probably would have finished all of the broth too. I still managed to eat quite a bit of it, and I definitely ate every single one of the chicken chaoshou.
The fried mushrooms were really good too. What I especially liked was their texture. They weren't super crispy; they had more of a chew to them, which I really enjoyed.
When I went in for dinner, the restaurant was empty, and I have to say: this restaurant should NOT be empty. I've tried their food three different times now, and each time I've walked away pretty satisfied and really glad I gave some new dishes a try.
I'll definitely be going back to explore more of the menu. I hope more people give Mayan Bar and Noodles a chance because they deserve to have people coming through that door. read more
