I saw Katie at this location. I had finally found a girl I liked in Austin but she was at the Escarpment location and just moved. I was really disappointed because it took so long to find someone I liked and who was in my budget ($40). But I am so happy with my new stylist. She is in my budget and did a great job! She talked with me a lot before hand about what I wanted and made great suggestions. She was able to keep my length and still freshen it up and take off dead ends. She also cut my bangs perfectly which is the biggest deal for all those bang rockers out there. It is such a relaxing atmosphere and I feel like I am resting in the lap of luxury with the extra treatments. Although I didn't get a hand massage with my blow out when I went, but I was the last appointment of the day and it takes forever to cut and dry my hair. I highly recommend this salon! read more

I worked with this salon during the Aveda Catwalk for Water Runway show this year and was given a gift certificate for services. I finally used that certificate today and decided to get a facial because my skin has been tired and stressed lately. My appointment was with Tess. She was great about telling me what she was going to do although I do wish she explained it as she was doing it. She even recommended a daily cleanser that would work perfect for my skin that she had incorporated into the facial. read more

Nail services not worth it. Went recently for a signature (read: expensive) mani/pedi. In a nutshell, $66 not including tip for a basic manicure/pedicure. For that price, I'd expect my nails to glow for weeks on end. Instead, the polish coverage is shabby and the technician didn't even cover the whole nail with the second coat. I'm pretty disappointed. I'm editing this review based on the fact that I was contacted by the salon and offered a re-application of polish and/or a refund, which I thoroughly appreciate. I had actually contacted the salon immediately after my service to discuss my concerns and wasn't treated as though my complaint was valid at that time (hence the one star review) but Chris went out of his way to make sure I was taken care of. I will certainly give them another her try. read more

I used to visit Maximum FX Salon at The Domain but I recently moved closer to Downtown so decided to come here. I'm so happy this place is also as good as the one at the Domain. I love how Maximum FX Salon is very reasonably priced and yet makes you feel like a million bucks when you leave the place. You get a complimentary service + a complimentary hand massage when you go in for a haircut. I saw Molly for my haircut and she did a great job. She even recommended a few everyday use products to make my hair look fab and it has made such a difference! If you want to be totally pampered Maximum FX Salon & Spa on South Congress is the place to go! Colorist Jessica is the best of the best and no one cuts hair like Melinda! The free hand massages are awesome, the atmosphere is even better and although they ask if you need any products, they are not pushy! But they do have an entire lobby of products and the lobby staff is knowledgeable and available to help. I will NEVER go anywhere else. I have been a client for 2 years now and rate this salon 5 Stars because they truly deserve it! This was my first time at Maximum FX on SoCo. I needed a haircut for a wedding but had to add a mani/pedi last minute. The girl at the desk was great and fit me in so I could get everything taken care of in one visit. The Signature Pedi was great, I love the semi private rooms! The lovely young lady who worked on my feet was wonderful and helped me pick a cute color. My cut was with Melinda who was aewsome! She has curly hair like I do so she knew how to take care of me. I walked out very happy with the cut she gave and I felt like I could trust her to make good decisions about what we could do with my hair. The eye mask was a pleasant surprise and relaxing; the additional hand massage was nice too. Melinda also did my nails and was gentle. I don't get manis very often since I work with my hands but I would come back here for some help to keep my hands from looking roughed up! Overall, the staff was lovely and caring; the salon is clean and stocked withe plenty of Aveda products. Let me just say that you can tell a lot about a place by how they treat you on the phone, and the front desk. This place is absolutely fantastic. My husband and I were both weary of who to trust with our hairstyles, and Melinda took excellent care of both of us (different occasions.) Melinda was so thorough with us, we tried a certain look with my hair, but the style didn't work so we completely redid it-- which is unheard of! It looked GREAT, I walked out feeling like a million bucks, and honestly you get what you pay for-- don't be discouraged by $50/cut-- it's absolutely worth every penny and I'm beginning to see that you truly get what you pay for. Courtney at the front desk was fantastic in helping me and figuring out what would work with my schedule. I had to reschedule twice and she was absolutely understanding and flexible with me. I have been going to Maximum FX for over 10 yrs. I used to get my hair cut with them back when they were on Guadalupe St. The staff is always courteous and attentive and I've never felt uncomfortable when asking questions. The stylists are knowledgeable and listen to what you have to say. Now that they've gone to colorists I thought I may not get the same service that my stylist has always given me. I was wrong! It seems to me that the colorists are well versed and have the most up to date techniques down and they communicate with the stylists, especially if you have an appointment with each and they are back to back. Oh how I love this place! I was in Austin over the Thanksgiving holiday to visit family and decided I needed to get my hair cut and highlighted. I am so happy I did! I was lucky to get to have Erinn do both my cut and color. I am trying to grow my hair out from an a line bob and it is at an akward length right now. I also have had some issues recently with stylists giving me some blonde highlights that were not quite the right shade for my natural hair color. Erinn remedied all of this! She is amazing! Also, she is so knowledgeable. She explained to my why I had some funky layers in my hair from the attempt to grow out. She managed to thin out this really heavy layer I had about 2 inches up from the bottom of my hair. She also brought up the bottom layer just a bit so that I didn't lose too much length yet I no longer looked like I had a bad mullet. Before we even got to the cut, we tackled the color mishap that was my hair. I explained that I didn't like goldy blondes and I was unhappy with the outcome of my previous colors. Erinn explained why my hair had been turning out the way it was and she had some great suggestions on what we could do to get me back to something I would be happy with. This is the kind of hair stylist/colorist that ever salon should have representing them. I did not go to beauty school. I do not know what color/cut works best for my hair texture, color, or my hair styling abilities. I pick my hair style/color by looking at a picture in a magazine. It was so helpful to have an honest and informed stylist explain to me what would work best for me and give me several options instead of just giving me something that I picked out of a magazine that I could never recreate myself and I would ultimately be unhappy with. so ladies? want to be lied to and ripped off? then by all means come to maximumfx on s. congress! they will lie to your face and tell you that their $2.00 recycling fee is dictated by corporate aveda. not true. aveda charges none of their salons to recycle. i remember feeling it was untoward but alas they mentioned corporate aveda and the earth - so i paid. this bothered me because i would recycle my foils and whatever! why am i paying for aveda to recycle my things? so 3 years later i get fed up with maximumfx (ya they raised their prices on cuts & color by over $10 with no notice!) - i then leave for a true aveda salon. i mention the $2.00 recycling fee and my new salon lets me know that i may be remembering incorrectly. aveda does not charge to recycle. i should reach out to aveda corporate. i do reach out to aveda corporate and they too let me know that this is not an aveda practice. i want my money back! mind you all at roughly every 3 weeks for 3 years they owe me c. $2.00 x$17 times. that's a whopping $34.00 x 3 years = $102.00 . you all! i have paid these liars thousands over 3 years. when i rang up lela she let's me know i am wasting her time and that i do not need to go to their salon. umm, lela i've stopped going to your salon (did you all not notice that my appointments were cancelled for the year?) get it? classy. please ladies go to maximumfx on s. congress. they really will really value you and not lie to you or steal from you. read more

I recently had the best haircut experience I have ever had at Maximum Salon with Adam D. (And the best experience is REALLY that good as I have been to many very good salons and used to work at a salon!) I was looking for something simple and affordable and boy did he surprise me (in a good way!) He kept my haircut simple and did exactly what I asked, only to offer a few good recommendations that I liked, however the best part was that he provided a complimentary scalp massage AND hand massage (amazing!) and is a super friendly, fun loving guy that I enjoyed getting to know over the course of an hour or so! He didn't pressure me into buying any product, but he was very knowledgeable and make the appropriate recommendations to my questions which I of course ended up buying from him and now love the Aveda products he recommended. I also can't believe how affordable it was! I have paid nearly 3X that for a horrible haircut and not even close to the service level that Adam and his team provided. The receptionist was also very pleasant and you can tell everyone there thoroughly enjoys the salon. I would recommend Adam D. and Maximum to anyone I know as it was a fantastic experience and I can't wait to go back! read more

If I could give negative stars I would. And it's not even about the hair cut. Because I did not even get one. Once upon a time I used to get my hair cut here. It was meh, So I started going to my current salon. But recently they have been trying to lure me back with $25 off coupons. So I broke down and decided to try them out again. Big mistake. I call to make my appointment on the number given on the coupon and it has the Congress avenue address underneath it. Which is the location I had gone to in the past. Currently, I live five minutes from the new Escarpment location, But in the email it specifically mentions theCcongress location. So when I call to make an appointment it even prompted me to dial 1 for Congress and 2 for Escarpment. I picked 1. Made the appointment for 2:30 on Saturday, Piece of cake. Nope, I show up having gone way out of my way to get to the Congress location just to be told that my appointment is at escarpment. And guess what there is nothing they can do. No one even tried to make it better. I will NEVER go back there. What a shameful lack of customer service. I promptly left and made an appointment at my regular salon. read more

I will echo the other reviewers who say Tess is the best aesthetician in town. I have been going to her steadily for about 6-7 years. I usually find the South Congress location's mani/pedi and other services to be well-done, too, but I am not quite as loyal when it comes to pedicures. I love Aveda products, too.
