I have had some good experiences at Spruce which is why this review is not a 1 Star. I went in for blonde highlights. When the stylist was drying my hair shy kept saying how blonde I was. When I looked I. The mirror I thought "huh?" I thought I was darker than when I came in but maybe it was the lighting and angle. When I got home I realized it wasn't the lighting. I was darker and it looked like there was gray highlights. My husband pointed out my grow out line, roots, and said "don't they usually blend that in?" My sister said "you paid someone to do that to your hair?!" And my mom said " are you growing out your gray? I thought you were going blonde." I called the next day and they are making me wait over a week to have the same person "try" to fix my hair. I don't really want to go back and sit for hours and hope for a better result but for $300 I should love my hair. Spruce said they do not refund just fix. So proceed with caution. read more

I feel bad writing this review, but I'm pretty disappointed with my haircut. I went in last week because I had recently had a haircut and they didn't put in layers and I realized I needed a bit more dimension. I sat in the seat with Megan, who seems like a perfect nice person, and I told her I needed some layers/dimension and to keep the length (2 inches below shoulder) the same with some face framing. I figured this was enough info but perhaps I needed to communicate better because my layers are really bad. Hacked off too much in the front. I will be wearing my hair up for the next 6 months growing this out. I also didn't realize this was an Aveda salon and I should have checked that. I don't like going to Aveda salons because I feel like they try to push their products pretty hard. read more

I am a nursing mom and I brought my nursing baby and my older child who is babysitting age to watch her in the waiting room. I got to my appointment on time and I was sitting there for 10 minutes before I asked if they were running late. The woman at the front desk replied that she was waiting for my kids to leave before they could start my appointment. First of all maybe tell me that before I'm sitting there waiting for 10 minutes. Also, I was able to go to my consultation with my babysitter and my nursing baby. Not only was she the sweetest but she was confident in her abilities that she could provide what I am asking for. My husband had a hip replacement & we'd had to reschedule his haircut. I booked an appointment on the phone for the next day and later received a text from the owner saying they could not accommodate him & were cancelling. I'd mentioned he was in a wheelchair and we'd have to see if he could use the stylist chair otherwise they could trim his hair in his wheelchair. His hair was already washed. After the text about cancelling I immediately texted back not to cancel the appointment & that he'd manage the stylist's chair. The owner immediately wrote back that the appointment was taken by another client. Very disappointing and unprofessional. They might have at least called me to discuss. Also very discriminatory towards someone temporarily (or permanently!) using a wheelchair. Neither of us will ever use their services again. I don't even want to give one star! read more

I have never experienced a ruder environmental than this salon. I'm a huge Aveda fan, but will never go back. One stylist told me my hair was too thin for the style I showed them in a picture. That's not exactly how you want to feel about yourself when you're spending a lot of money on a haircut. The final time I had an appointment, I had someone watching my newborn in the lobby and the lady at the front desk told me that she needed to take my baby outside. It was 100 degrees outside. As a new, nursing mom trying to take an hour to feel pampered, I feel like it was very insensitive. The salon was empty, and my newborn was asleep in his stroller. Spruce Salon is my go-to place whenever I need my hair done. I drive back from College Station every 6 weeks just so they can work on my hair. Allie always takes care of me for my highlights, and if she isn't available, Kourtni steps in and does a just as amazing job. I then go to Megan to get my hair cut and styled. The entire Spruce Salon team is so much fun to be around, and I always feel so welcomed and loved when I come in. My sister, mom, and grandmother all come to Spruce Salon because we love them so much. Don't let prices scare you because the service is everything that you pay for. I was super excited about this place because my salon in Atlanta was also an Aveda salon and I loved my woman. She always cut it peffectly and consistently to what my hair needed. When I checked in the woman at the front desk asked if I wanted hand massage or makeup at the end of my haircut, so I assumed it was complimentary. Not sure if it was or not. I spoke to my stylist and told her that I need 4 inches off, trim my bangs and whatever you need to do to make my hair look full and voluminous. She literally trimmed my bangs and cut 4 inches off and not much else was done. I was charged $65 (without gratuity). If I knew that's all she was going to do, then I would've gone elsewhere just to get it 4 inches shorter and paid $20-40. I did not feel that it was worth thr $65 at all. Also, the woman who gave me a hand massage came during my haircut which surprised me. I thought she would come after instead of interrupting my stylist. And it was not much of a hand massage. It was more like she was putting on lotion on my hands for me. It literally lasted less than one minute. I definitely won't be coming back here. read more

I came here because Leah Webb who has done my highlights for the past year, moved here. Actually it's her new shop! I guess this is more about her as a stylist. My hair is difficult to highlight because it is coal-black and I have had disastrous results in the past. Her work is very good. It always looks stylish, subtle. She gives you what you want, but she will definitely tell you if something you want may look tacky or not good on you. It is an Aveda salon. I don't use Aveda products, but if you did, they certainly have everything there. The salon is cool, if you care about that. Very sleek, modern, clean lines. Oh, and lots of good magazines too! I moved back to Austin about 5 months back and haven't cut my hair in over a year and half after I had donated it all to lock of love. I was in a new part of town and was worried about having to find too expensive of a salon (it is west lake afterall, and I don't fit the average $$ around this area) but I saw Spruce on yelp and have always loved Aveda products. I call around 10 am and they had an opening at 1! Great for a Saturday because I forgot to plan ahead. I show up and love how clean and well kept the place is. I'm offered a mimosa (and something else, but I stopped listening after mimosa) and taken back to meet my stylist Amanda. Now, let me tell you. I have had EVERY hairstyle under the sun. I love to experiment and have had short, long and in between. I never kept it long for long because the styles never seemed to suit me. Amanda however, listened in details to my desires and worked her magic. My hair looks AMAZING and I could not be happier with the style, service and price. I even got a hand massage while she was blow drying! Overall, if you try to avoid great clips type places but cringe at the ridiculous prices of high end salons, this is your place. Brenna is the best. I followed her from her previous salon, and I have really fallen in love with the space. It's a cool, quiet area. Easy to relax with refreshments and great music. As far as Brenna goes, I have never not loved my haircut when I leave the chair. I have often had trouble before with taken a picture in to a stylist and having them talk me out of the look. With Brenna, I bring in a picture, she asks me a few questions to make sure of what I'm looking for, and an hour later I walk out with the exact hair cut. read more

I had a great experience! The booking process was easy, they provide a text and email confirmation and do a super sweet reminder call prior to the appointment. When I walked in I was pleasantly greeted. Once I was brought back to the chair, my stylist, Payne, took time to talk to me about what I was looking for, what I liked / disliked about my current cut, my daily routines, etc. I walked out with the best cut I have had in a long time. I've been going to Spruce for a year. It took that long for them to get my color where I wanted it. Some of the mishap in my opinion is that they had junior colorest doing the job and honestly she didn't know what to do. Robert is awesome and the only person who does it right. I won't let anyone else touch my hair but you pay for it...usually $200 every six weeks. As for haircut, it's a total rip-off. They dry cut which I like but they charge $75, yes $75! That is just crazy. I understand they "consult" with you but let's be real; it's a hair cut, not surgery. In addition, I didn't have some major blowout done, curling, styling or anything, just dried and cut. I'll be going elsewhere for my haircuts! read more

I came here in a vulnerable mess after having a T E R R I B L E tragedy of a haircut from a different salon. I just moved here a was really needing some shaping and trim. I wanted a grown out a line bob, sleek and classy. I got nothing of the such from the first salon, but ANGIE (a little red headed ANGEL... Yes when you call ask for Angie the Angel) not only fixed my hair but by carefully sculpted my hair she got rid of the damaged clumps from the razor happy stylist from h. e. Double hockey sticks. In a whirlwind of haircuts I went from having medium length long hair to a chin length bob... 2 years of growth gone before I could really figure out what happened. BUT it is all worth it to find Angie, seriously, I will only go to her from now on. I payed 40 for the hack job. 60 for a thorough complete beautiful cut. It's worth the 20 bucks people... I was so excited about an Aveda salon since I use a lot of Aveda products. I went in for a hair cut. My stylist was very arrogant and patronizing. Did not listen to what I wanted. When I tried to tell her that I don't want too many layers because my hair is frizzy, she told me that had nothing to do with making my hair frizzy. I hate my haircut. It's so uneven. And I have extremely short hair in the middle of my head. It makes no sense. I will not be going back. read more

I have been going to Spruce Salon regularly for almost 8 years. I look forward to going to my appointments for color, cut and styling because the atmosphere is so upbeat while at the same time relaxing. I have never had a bad color or cut experience and am willing to try new staff because they are all exceptional in their profession. They really care about making you look your best because they love their work and are passionate about it. I'm shocked when I read some reviews saying the staff is rude, this staff is the friendliest Aveda salon I have ever frequented. For 10 years I had been going to all 3 different Aveda salons in The Woodlands, where I used to live, L'aVantage salon is definitely the best...The owner at Spruce also has gone above and beyond with the cleanliness and covid safety precautions, even installing plexiglas between stations. It's been about 6 weeks since my last (and first) visit to Spruce Salon and I could not be happier with every part of the experience. Totally meant to write this sooner! Between Allie and Angie, they cut and colored my hair exactly as I had hoped and was very pleased with the results! Angie was way fun, and kept my hair looking long and layered while still cutting off enough to make a difference. She then finished up my cut with a Protein treatment and I left with my hair feeling healthier than it had in a long time! Not only have I tossed my straightener (which was my daily deal), but I have received plenty of compliments since my visit. Allie was also great and really took the time to understand how I wanted my hair colored. Having been to a handful of Salons, it's nice to know that Spruce Salon does it right and has the team in place to deliver quality without killing your wallet. I live right south of Downtown and am absolutely fine with traveling 25-30 minutes! Very happy to call Spruce my new hair salon home. Thanks ladies! and P.S.... She added intricate braids and wrapped my hair into an amazing bun, which lasted all night, and went perfectly with my aqua colored dress. I was getting my hair extensions from Spruce Salon which is very costly and time consuming. I thought I would receive excellent care not only because it was a reputable salon, but also due to the fact that I was spending a lot money at each visit. Unfortunately, I was really disturbed by the way my kids and I were treated last time I was in the salon and will no longer continue with their services. My last visit, I arrived at 8:50 with no other clients present and I had to bring my 2 sons with me as I knew it was a short visit just to examine my hair and decide when to order the next set of extensions. Unfortunately, the girls who were covering the front desk were extremely rude to my children. So much so that my boys felt the need to step outside. They were not misbehaving at all and for the amount of money I spent at the salon and would have continued to spend at the salon, my family and I deserved more respect than that. So essentially the staff's demeanor and utter disrespect for my children cost this salon thousands and thousands of dollars. I am a singer/performer and I would have needed my extensions done every 4 months. More importantly, many of the clients at Spruce are mothers and can empathize with my situation. It is too bad the staff do not know how to treat their customers kindly. In addition..I later found out that the extension process being done at Spruce was not done correctly. The bonds were never cut to size in order to accommodate my hair this why the extensions were falling out all the time!! The Spruce staff only replied to me via email about their misgivings and explained that they have a child policy! That child policy was never explained to me and I was there before opening time that specific day! In addition, it was only 10 minutes in total that we were there! This was the first time I have ever brought my children in as I didn't have child care that day. Plus....the "customer is always right"and there is no reason for anyone to have been rude to my children! That's absurd! I have gone to numerous upscale salons in NYC, LA, and in Greenwich, CT...far more prestigious than this salon in bee caves and have had to take my children in and out on an occasion. Their staff was always generous and polite. Spruce should always remember that your clients have families and if they happen to show up on a rare occasion, you should treat them with kindness and respect. Bottom Line: Look for somewhere else to go! There are plenty of kind and talented people who will do your hair for less and will show you and your family some respect!! read more

After continuing to try this salon for the past year, with every visit I would just become more disappointed. I tried multiple stylists and always walked out thinking I spent too much money for a mediocre service. They could never get my blonde right, it always had an orange tone, and the cut was just blah. I observed snobby and egotistical behavior and watched lots of turnover this last year. The stylists were competing for clients and you could tell they didn't like each other. The atmosphere just wasn't positive. They pushed their products so hard and then wouldn't exchange them when they weighed my hair down. Needless to say, I will be finding a different salon. Wonderful, friendly staff in a bright and clean environment! Tanner is an amazing stylist! I had long hair for years and loved the layered haircuts that Tanner gave me. Last summer I decided to change things up and go with a much shorter cut and have been so happy with that! My favorite thing about the way Tanner cuts my hair is how low maintenance it is! I got my hair cut at Spruce salon about a week ago. Spruce has a really nice and clean environment that is modern and inviting. The people who work at Spruce are really nice, but I wish the receptionist wouldn't have pressured me to buy Aveda products so strongly after my appointment. When I came in, I had several pictures to show my stylist and I thought that we were on the same page. I wanted a long smooth bob below the shoulders that would not need styling or heat on a daily basis. I came in with my natural air dried hair so the stylist would know the texture of my hair. I am a college student and need something that is easy to keep up with. I asked the stylist to take out my split ends, but keep as much length as possible. I thought I was really polite and clear when I spoke to her, so I felt pretty comfortable. I also said that I'd like to get my hair styled with waves and volume at the end of my haircut. Once the haircut was done, I realized that it was really short, far shorter than the pictures and what I had asked for. I think hair stylists have a really hard time realizing that when hair is cut wet and then dried, it shrinks significantly. Maybe they need to cut wet hair longer than what it needs to be, so it looks normal once it is styled or dried. Despite the really short hair length, the hair cut was OKAY. Not great, but okay. One thing that bothered me though, was that despite having asked for it to be styled wavy and full like in the pictures several times, she used a round brush and straightened it completely claiming that it was "playful" despite not being what I wanted. After washing my hair at home and applying some product I realized how bad the hair cut truly was. My hair is too short and the layers are too choppy so it looks like I have really messy frizz and flyways with random layers that stick straight out from my head. My mom and friends all agree that the haircut looks really "butch" and doesn't complement me at all. Now, I have to spend at least 30 minutes everyday straightening and styling my hair, just to make it look acceptable. I was really not looking to have a hair cut that required soo much effort. My hair is thick with nice body, and it usually requires very little effort but this haircut just doesn't work for me. Despite the nice environment and Aveda products Spruce has to offer, the haircut I got there is definitely not worth $60. I also do not think that I can go back for them to fix anything because the only solution would be to cut more hair off, and I definitely don't want my hair any shorter or choppier. read more

I've been visiting Spruce for close to two years now. Four botched hair cuts on my luxurious locks and I'd had enough, then I found Spruce. First visit I had ombré blonde hair with navy blue tips. It was a nightmare. Allie pulled though in color and I had my chocolate brown locks back. Next I saw CJ(same visit) for my cut. I told her what I told all my stylists, I wanted "Victoria Secret hair" I left with exactly that. More recently I saw Amanda who chopped all my hair off into a sweet above the shoulder do. Couldn't be happier with my summer hair. I like instant gratification. So when I decide to change my hair last minute Meryl, the salon manager is a peach and always fits me in last minute.
