I go home to Pittsburgh to get my hair done. Can't help it, I've been with the same two stylists for decades. However, when I need something done straight away, Love + Roots is the only place I'll go. It's a modern, beautiful salon. Upscale. Service requested is not what was performed. The stylist claimed I could not get blonde, when I had blonded perfectly in one session for more than 15 years and had a lot of new growth to work with. The blonding over several sessions myth that the stylist here tried to sell me is a con - a stylist cannot possibly locate the exact pieces she highlighted before, in a separate session , in order to get them blonder. The developer, heat and time for lift need to be sufficient the first time. For more than $300, I received a basic foiling job in which pieces at the back and bottom were lifted significantly more than the top and front (because heat was applied unevenly to the back of my hair) when I specifically had asked for bright front pieces. Insufficient number of highlights to make any impact and insufficient lift on any readily visible part of the hair to achieve any contrast. The keratin treatment didn't change my frizzing upon working out at all. Clearly not meant for someone with my texture. In addition to the $300+ charge for the keratin, I was charged $120 for materials. I owned a beauty retail business for 8 years. $120 is enough keratin to treat 10 guests. This is simply con artistry. However, I wouldn't be as annoyed if the bottle of treatment I essentially gifted the salon actually worked. My sense of salons in Austin is that stylists are more concerned about what they'll make per hour than about actually delivering results to the client. They do not have skill with a broad number of hair textures and do not want to spend the time to do a good job on any significant thickness/texture or to develop their skills. Although I know someone with straighter, thinner, blonde hair whose hair is done beautifully here, I'd pay attention to the bad reviews. Bonus tip: foilyage on thick, dark hair with the proper developer and evenly applied heat will create more impact more quickly, equaling value for the client and sufficient compensation for the stylist. Also, use Olaplex if you're worried about damage. You're welcome. read more

90-minute custom Facial with aesthetician Bernadette H. was fantastic! She addressed my skin complaints and a thorough assessment was made during my session. She was able to remove some of my stubborn milia pimples. The products used were very mildly scented and had a super clean scent to them. The space was super cute and walking distance from Discada tacos and Hillside Farmacy. They have a few spots in front of their spot which made it much easier not to stress over parking. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing self-care session, complete with a glass of your favorite beverage. read more

After my review the owner called and left a voicemail and suggested to rebook at my expense. My communication with the salon was entirely over text yet "I had a miscommunication". No responsibility taken. Her staff said the stylists were out with a possibly contagious rash and then she said cancellations due to being cautious over Covid. So are you calling your staff liars? It's as hard as taking responsibility. "People get sick". If a client of this salon is to get sick with Covid or otherwise and you cancel your appointment expect to pay full price if it's within 24 hrs. If they cancel you 2 hours before your appt and for 2 different stylists you can rebook at your loss. Management responds to previous negative review over cancellation costs by client as "this is business." Is my time and money not my business when you cancel? Bottom line these owners value profit over professionalism. You don't argue with negative reviews (look at Google) you address them with sincerity. Maybe I'm crazy, but if you want to charge me for missing how is my time any different? Tons of great salons in Austin. Why put money in the pocket of defensive and unprofessional owners. If you own a business that should come with integrity and ethics. Just honestly a poor experience and it starts from the top. read more

Bad experience here would not recommend. Had a full balayage the color is all wrong I just asked for rich brown hair and the first attempt she gave me the ashiest brown I've ever seen. She did not seem to understand what I was asking for. Said "do you want to be ashy or bronze?" And I said DEFINITELY not ashy- but I don't want to be orange. Obviously that means lean towards bronze. I get that inspiration photos are the way of the salon having some sort of proof of what someone is asking for- but a stylist should also understand that a photo AND what the person is asking for needs to be taken into consideration. If my photo doesn't match with what I'm talking about- ask me more questions!!! I said "rich milk chocolate" "not bronze" "DEFINITELY not ashy" I came back to get it fixed- they kept subtly gaslighting me about how to achieve color. I don't care how you get there just please make me a rich brown with subtle lighter pieces! She was also supposed to fix the prior color in my bangs and didn't after the second attempt. If it wasn't possible- I'd like that from the get go- I would go somewhere else to save my money or get a different process done. Got in contact with the owner after the second attempt and really hated the extreme language she used, seemed very egotistical. She said " In the photos the bangs look the same color as the rest of your hair " LOL!!!! Ok she's full blown lying. "In my expert opinion it looks exactly like the inspiration" The stylist was very kind, and did a really great job with the shampoo which is why I don't want to mention her name, just a bad color experience and wanted some sort of reimbursement so I can afford to get it how I want it but they've radio silenced me since I don't want to come back a THIRD TIME!!! No one wants to come back that many times it's super embarrassing and I'm clearly not welcome at that point, just accept it was a mess up and let me move on. read more
