I went once randomly for a lash lift with Marie, and since have been back 3 times and have 3 future appointments already scheduled. 1- From Marie, I have had a lash lift, brows shaped, and a facial. All 3 services were A+++++ I will never go back to extensions, and my face has never felt better. 2- I recently had a hair cut and toner with Jordyn, and could not be more in love with both. My hair was long, stringy, and damaged. Jordyn brought it back to life. I receive multiple compliments each day! Being a hijabi it's really difficult getting an appointment for haircut when there is not other male at the salon. I called the salon a day before and they really helped me out by finding a time that would work out with my restrictions. I booked my appointment with Lindsey and she was amazing! Booked an appointment with Lindsey this past weekend for a partial highlight to help blend my roots a bit better. I've been to just about every salon in Austin at this point (and have been to countless upscale salons in the Northeast) and this was one of the best experiences. Lindsey was so beyond sweet and professional, really talked with me about what I was looking to accomplish and made recommendations where it made sense. Ended up getting a haircut and A+ blow out/styling on top of it, and left feeling fabulous. I decided i wanted to come back a few days later to have a few more babylights added in, and she fit me in no problem and spent 2 hours making sure my hair was perfect, including blowing it out and styling it again without trying to charge anything additional. She got almost all of the brassiness/warm tones out of my blonde to get me to a gorgeous creamy natural shade, and really blended my roots to perfection. I've made appointments here three times now and I don't plan on going anywhere else any time soon. Every four weeks I come here, knowing I'll get treated like a friend and leave looking like a million bucks. First, brows. Marie is an absolute legend. When I first came in, I had botched my own brows trying to wax them at home (I know, I know.) She fixed them up despite me missing big patches in them using some kind of advanced witchcraft. Don't ask me how. She favors the natural but polished look, and consistently takes her time to make my brows look kissed by a god. No rushed jobs here. Plus, I didn't know it was possible for eyebrow service not to be painful before I booked with her! She is gentle, uses high-quality products, and my sensitive skin doesn't break out after seeing her. I cannot recommend her enough. Secondly, hair. I usually see Lindsey. She is wonderful, quick yet precise, and very friendly. She takes the extra time to style my hair with these adorable beach waves, gives me tips for maintenance, and I'm in love with my hair every time I leave. I recently booked with Jordyn as well, and she also completely killed it. I'm just as happy with my cut and my experience. She was able to maintain the same cut and style I like, took length off without making it too short, and created volume in my hair that wasn't there before. Both of these ladies are seriously skilled with some scissors. The thing I appreciate the most about Love+Roots, aside from the skill and professionalism with which these stylists approach beauty, is how comfortable I feel here. I often experience a bit of anxiety with people being close to me and touching me. Some salons have been difficult for me due to this, but not here. I saw Sara yesterday and she was amazing! I went in with a groupon and was treated like a rock star! The staff is more than friendly (I think I got offered a drink by 3 different people within the first 5 minutes I was there)!!! I always say I'm not super picky about my hair (as long as it's pretty, blonde, and I can fit it in a pony tail) but Sara totally blew my expectations out the water! When a change in medications, my age, and stress started wreaking havoc on my hair and it started thinning out, I knew it was time to say goodbye to my length. I had been sporting waist/near waist hair for several years, and hadn't set foot in a full service salon in over a decade. At the recommendation of a friend, I booked an appointment with Sara and couldn't be more pleased! She cut the length to my collarbones and blended my existing fringe into some face framing layers that she added. It hasn't looked this healthy and thick in lord knows how long! The pros: -- Love + Roots has a simple online booking system, which is great for me since I hate calling places. -- The atmosphere/decor is charming! -- They offer complementary bang trims between visits, which is great for someone (like myself) who gets scissor happy in the bathroom mirror once they get too long (personally, I can't justify spending $10-15 + tip on a bang trim, like other salons charge.). I had never been here before, booked an all over color + hair cut on the website 1.5 weeks prior to the actual appointment date. The appointment was with Michelle. When Michelle asked what i was in for, I stated the exact verbiage as my online appointment listed. Thinking I would obviously be booked for the appropriate time slot for selecting the correct items. Michelle was very unpleasant from the get go, her demeanor and facial expressions in the mirror were extremely rude and off putting. Upon looking at my hair she said it would be a color correction and she didn't have the time for it. If the intention was to go darker to cover the entire hair, how would this not be " all over color". Michelle said an all over color would be a root touch up. Which are two separate selections online. This stylist was argumentative and rude. She kept staying that she was just being honest. There's a difference between being kind with honesty or flat out rude because you don't want to do a clients hair. I asked for just the hair cut if she couldn't do the color and she continued to go back to the color topic, making excuses as to why my correct time selection online wouldn't be enough for her. At this point, I would not be comfortable with her touching my hair and I definitely wouldn't trust her. After sitting and having to see her body language/ facial expressions in the mirror, I walked up to the desk to ask if another stylist was available. They said yes but then the owner popped up behind me and asked to talk. The conversation did not go anywhere and there was no empathy. The owner, Jessica, said multiple times she isn't sure what happened because she had to talk to Michelle. Jessica went on to say that Michelle is a nice person. There was zero professionalism from either of the two. There's a difference between your nice friend, and them having the ability to be kind and personable with clients. I felt as if she was insinuating she did not believe my interaction and experience with Michelle. The owner did not try to get me re booked. This was an extremely inconvenient waste of time and a very sad experience. I was looking forward to getting my hair done and used time off from work to do so. I will not give this place my business. The owner and stylist are careless and clearly don't care about giving good service or obtaining new clients. Very disappointed. read more

That's a daunting task, but I felt fairly confident after reading through reviews for Love+Roots. I took a chance, and I'm a customer for as long as they'll have me! I was paired with Jessica and Anna (may be "Ana"), and I couldn't be happier. Jessica made sure she had a clear picture of exactly what I wanted before beginning. Update number 2: I called April and let her know I wanted to go pink (my highlights have lightened enough for some of the brighter colors to stick). I have a new job and have to work late but she made the time to stay later to give me my pink hair! I'm in love. It came out a little more on the red side in some places but it's mostly pink and red :) totally in love! UPDATE: I still love this place! I went back for a new set of highlights and cut and April still did an amazing job. I messed up though and ruined the wonderful work she did by using a shampoo that was too strong but she rescheduled me and if I dare say, it came out even more gorgeous after she fixed it. It lasted a few months too. She did such a great job that even though the color is fading already (as expected with time) people still give me compliments on the color and tones she did! Ok my review is WAY OVERDUE! I was so nervous to go to this salon since I have textured hair. I was highly concerned that my hair would create too much of a challenge for the stylist. BUT I WAS WRONG! The stylist got my hair so bone straight that you would've thought my grandmother used a hot comb off of the stove to get my hair straight! My hair was flowing, had volume, smelled good, and LOOKED BEAUTIFUL !!! I was in shock, literally in shock. Due to the fact that my expectations were exceeded, and I had nothing to be concerned about. On top of that, I couldn't even feel her hands in my hair. She was so so gentle! Erin at Orbit rocks! I went to the East Austin salon for the first time last Saturday armed with a "free haircut" gift card (thanks to Lorena O., who won it for me at the last elite event) and really had no expectations except that Erin was supposed to be an expert with long hair. I was 30 minutes early, but waited just 10 minutes before Erin came to get me. Half asleep from less-than-stellar rest all week, I sat in her chair and was secretly hoping she wouldn't be too chatty. Lo and behold, she apologized for not being in a chatty mood because she was tired from working one of her three jobs the night before. Yes! Pointing out the obvious, I told her I needed highlights and a trim. She whipped out the color-swatch book, and pointed to the two colors that would help magically blend my half-natural, half-grown-out-highlighted mess. While foiling my hair, we did talk a little about her other jobs (bartender and freelance movie makeup artist) and our shared love of all things glitter. For the most part, though, I stared at the magazine article in my lap. (Cameron Diaz, get over your Prius-driving self.) After sitting under a crazy-looking dryer to process (think memory-erasing machine from Total Recall), Nick came to get me for a wash and AMAZING scalp massage (huge drool factor, needed an extra towel). Then back to Erin for my cut, which amounted to about an inch and a half off the straw ends I've been passing as hair. Added bonus: as she was blow-drying my hair, she did this crazy-ass thing with her fingers to volumize (word?) my roots. It amounted to a good 5-minute head scratching (more drool). I walked out about two hours later with my goodie bag (including what else? Orbit gum) a great cut and color all ready to Pachanga my ass off. I hate to give a bad review, but if Yelp is going to work well, I guess we have to be honest. So here goes: After reading the wonderful reviews, I made an appointment with Sunny for a haircut and highlights. What followed was a series of unfortunate events - and my failure to stop the events from progressing at numerous points during what turned into a 6 hour coloring fiasco. My first mistake was letting myself get talked into color when I really just wanted highlights and a haircut. My second mistake was not being more concerned when it took Sunny 35 minutes to mix my color. My third mistake was not calling "uncle" when, three hours into a two hour appointment, Sunny was still weaving highlights into my hair. My fourth mistake was not taking the opportunity to bail on the whole process when another customer showed up unexpectedly for what turned out to be a double-booked appointment. After the marathon highlight weaving and coloring session, I knew it was not going to be worth it when I asked the person who was washing out the product how the color was looking and she said, "It's hard to tell." Uh huh. They can always tell. And she could tell. She just didn't want to tell me my hair was orange. To cut to the chase, after highlights, coloring, wash out, blow-out, toner, wash out again, blow out again, I spent 6 hours in the salon and walked out with a pumpkin head and still no haircut. Perfect for Halloween. With that said, in the 6 hours I spent getting my hair colored I did see a lot of other great cuts and styles get done. They are doing something really right at Orbit. So, gauging from my observations and the other reviews, I'm an outlier and things generally go really well at Orbit, so take my experience for what little it's worth as you decide whether or not to give Orbit a try. read more

I have been going to the same stylist for more years than I can remember, and am madly in love with him. However, a series of events got me off my usual schedule with him and when I finally realized I desperately needed a cut and called to make an appointment, it was going to be five weeks before I could get back in his chair. That was just not going to work; I was already feeling like I could grace the cover of Hippies Gone Wild Magazine with my lanky locks. Then I remembered that I had a free haircut coupon from Orbit that I'd received at a Yelp event. I called to make an appointment, and the owner of Orbit, Christian, set me up with an appointment with Jessica on short notice. I ended up chatting with Christian on the phone for a few minutes, and he absolutely could not have been nicer; as the face of Orbit, he is doing everything right. As for my hair, I don't think the cut or the experience quite stacked up to my usual stylist at my usual salon. My usual stylist is a perfectionist and an artist who takes great pains to make sure every cut is perfect, and while I did like the cut I got at Orbit, I didn't quite get that same vibe from the finished product. HOWEVER, and I do think this is important, the usual price for a cut with Jessica is less than half what my normal stylist charges, so I'm not sure the comparison is really fair. Were I not already hopelessly spoiled by my current stylist, I'd seriously consider making Orbit my salon. Very reasonable pricing, good cuts, free bang trims, and stellar customer service (they gave me a goodie bag with a coupon, a pack of Orbit gum, some hair care samples, some magnets, and a sweet note on my way out, and I got a call a few weeks later from somebody following up to make sure I'd had a good experience). I truly hope this cool salon continues to thrive in its funky little spot in the universe. read more

I didn't stop in for a naked body sugaring (though I'll admit that it makes for an entertaining read): I did instead pop in for a styling on a day when I was mostly faced with running around town like Ray Charles on a firedrill. As one might imagine, this left me a little harried when I walked in, but those concerns ultimately dissipated. There are a number of things that are familiar about this salon and several that are different than what I was used to: first off, and pretty helpful. You fill out a form here upon entry that details any hair foibles your stylist might need to know (any weird growth patterns, news of your crazy hair frying experiment, that kinda thing), and once you're called in, your stylist goes through that checklist and queries you about what you'd like to do. Then it's the run through the washing, the scalp massage (all good), the conditioning all that tragedy out of your mop and then onto the cut. Stylists are by definition pretty regular conversationalists, and that happens here too. Worth noting. And in the end? I walked with a cut I was happy with: as a guy, it's worth mentioning that it was a little more than I usually pay for a cut, but not a price point that would give some guys pause, I'm sure. And now, when it's 104 out every day, shorter hair breeds inspiration. read more
