I saw Kati at Lather. I showed her an entire Pinterest board I had. We discussed my hair history and I told her I wanted a light brown copper red. Attached are the reference photos. She asked if I wanted highlights and dimensions I said yes. Most of the references have highlights. What she gave me was the opposite of what I asked for. 12 hours before my vacation I ended up with bright blonde highlights on a dark brown base. I had darker hair then what I came in with somehow. I asked her why the color was dark she said it oxidized dark. I didn't question her. She told me she has done hair for 25 years. I don't believe that based on what I received. I explained I wanted the highlights to be copper. Once she started blowing out my hair I was getting incredibly upset. It wasn't even close to what I showed and we discussed. I had not touched my hair in a year to let it grow and get healthy. She botched it. I told her I was extremely upset. She told me she could fix it the next morning early before my flight and that she would text me. Unfortunately I had to leave for another appointment and paid her $400 for my hair. She wasted my time, my hair health, and my money. I shouldn't have paid her at all. After an hour I become really upset after getting a look of my hair in the sun. I called lather salon 12 times. No response. I decided to drive over because Kati had still not texted me to fix it. I showed up and she was gone. The salon owner was still there and tried to call her but nothing. She apologized but offered no real solution. Saying she was done and couldn't help me. She suggested to go down to one of the 7 salons on the street and try to get help. I did and found a gem of a stylist. She told me my hair was so botched she would have to lather my hair in bleach. Further having to destroy my hair health to undo what Kati had done. By the time I have the bleach on my hair I finally get a text from Kati. Offering a 50% refund because she also had give me a dusting. A dusting costs $200 apparently. Instead of going back and forth with a stylist who obviously didn't care about the service she provided just the money. I didn't continue fighting. The entire process I was in the dark about what was going on with my hair. Lies were told saying it's going to be copper. Do not come to this salon. They wrecked my hair and I had to spend more money fixing the damage she caused. But I guess it was worth $200 to her. read more

This is my salon and has been for years. I'm a natural blonde but with age comes great responsibility and grays. I go every 3 months or so for a trim and fresh highlights to brighten everything up. Kristin is the best! I was looking for a good stylist in Austin and I found my girl! She is so kind and accomodating and talented. She really listens to you and truly cares about matching you with the right hair style. I am very sensitive to bleach and wanted to stop doing all over color and she made the transition seamless, adding lowlights to give it a unique yet natural appearance. My hair has never looked more natural or healthy. She is a true artist and she cultivates an atmosphere of warmth and comfort seldom found in your average salon. Kim Turney will be my stylist until I'm a little blue haired lady. Actually, with her help, I'll probably never become a blue hair. I've followed Kim for years, and she is currently making people fabulous at "Lather". It's in the ground floor of a mixed use condo downtown facing the tracks. There is street meter parking, and a residential garage close to the salon. The interior of this place is sharp! Crisp blues and whites with two "where can I get those" black chandeliers. It's small inside with a little seating area, two or three stylists stations. Of course they sell all the smell good, look fab hair products. I felt very comfortable. Of course I had a great time with Kim, who should have a variety show as a side gig, but the other stylist and front desk person that were there were sweet as well. Sarah Garner is Amazing! I found her a few years ago and I am so glad I did. She's a great colorist, and gives me wonderful cuts. On top of that as I've bounced back between the San Francisco Bay Area and Austin over the past five years she's always remembered me. My hair comes out the perfect shade of blonde EVERY TIME, without enduring any excess damage, and she's been known to throw in a deep condition every once in a while :) And she's completely affordable, AND SHE WORKS SATURDAYS!! I live in California, how ever if I still lived in Austin I would be going to Lather every four to five weeks for a color and cut with Tim Enloe! He does the best styles and color that I have ever had. I use to be in the beauty business and when I moved to Ca. Tiffany has brought my hair back from the dead. I moved back to Austin a year ago and had trouble finding a colorist that I could trust. I had the misfortune of ending up with someone that not only failed to get me to my dream color (after a total of 5 tries) but also ruined my locks. THE BEST SALON IN TOWN! This place is full of amazing people! If you're tired of going somewhere and feeling it's lack luster in customer service as well as not getting exactly what you wanted out of your cut or color, then stop waisting your time and head over to Lather quick! I have super long, dark brown hair which I always get colored black. So many times when I get it done, it's never black enough, or the undertone is wrong, or it fades in like 3 weeks, but not here. Kristin Isaac is a magical creature of a hair dresser. She nails my hair to a "T" anytime I see her. I am super picky about my hair cuts and I can always tell if it's not done just right. Kristin goes out of her way to take her time with you and make sure that each strand on your head is in perfect order before she lets you go. She is meticulous and detailed, but is so skilled she doesn't take a long time! She is gracious and accommodating and and lots of fun to chat it up with. The whole staff is wonderful and it's so much fun to engage with them while you're having your service done. The cute gal at the front desk is very sweet as well. And did I mention they sell outrageously good products at a reasonable price? I ran my hands through my hair after my service and it looked and felt like a Cornsilk Cabbage Patch Kid's hair and shined like glass! When I got home from the salon, my husband immediately noticed! If you want to look and feel and be treated like a pretty, pretty princess then take yourself and your mane on down to the great team at Lather. Opened by the girls previously at John Girard, I just went in like a week after they had officially opened. Just so happened that was when I needed to get my hair highlighted but I was excited to see the new digs. They've kept it modern and chic. More room to move around then at John Girard, which was nice especially when all the girls started talking celebrity gossip, I don't think it bothered the straight-laced guy in there at all. I was last minute so my appointment was EARLY and there were just the two clients in there at the time but for a moment I felt very "steel magnolias" talking with the stylists and receptionist and just having a fun morning in a comfortable but cool atmosphere. I admit I follow Kim pretty religiously because she's the best colorist I've ever had but each time I've moved with her the salons have been great and I've been happy wherever she is. read more

Tiffany Vogelpohl knows hair...and even better she knows red hair, which if you have red hair you know is really hard to come by. She's equal parts hair adventurous and hair realistic meaning she loves to try something new but talks you off the cliff if you are going a bit overboard. She's honest with a kind style of telling you what will look good with your face shape, what will work for your lifestyle all while keeping with what is on trend. She stays educated and does her research. I have been going to Tiffany for years for my cuts and color and I can't say enough about the quality of her work. I love my spray tan! Lara at Lather did such a great job. I am very particular about the tan looking natural but still want to have a nice dark tan. Well, I achieved that with Lara. The product she used didn't smell, no streaks & lasts a long time. It's been close to two weeks and I still have my tan. It fades just like a real tan would. I'm hooked! I've learned my mistakes and will no longer stray from the best. I followed Kristin from Bella, to John Girard, and finally to her own salon. I'd see her about once a year before school started and every time not only did she remember who I was but my color came out amazingly gorgeous. Wow, wow, WOW! Steve at Lather Salon is truly amazing. I don't know if I can accurately describe just how outstanding he is at his job but here goes... I was a lucky new customer whose hair was badly damaged and in dire need of a cut/color. I called Steve at Lather thanks to the recommendation from a friend and was fortunate enough to get in to see him the following week. Steve immediately welcomed me with open arms. He is so friendly and passionate about what he does and it SHOWS. He agreed with me that my hair would look much better closer to my natural color then quickly got to work. After the best head massage rinse of my life, Steve took his time giving me a perfect cut then styled my hair so beautifully! He even took the time to teach me how to use the curling iron the way he does so as not to damage my hair any further. Not to sound narcissistic or anything but my hair looks the best it has in many years. The color is perfection and he was able to bring life/body back into my hair without chopping off much at all. Through the years and different cities, I have clung to my blonde hair and none have made it as beautiful as Kristin. She gets the necessary dynamic of color to keep it looking natural and yet soft and radiant. She also keeps my long hair current with an occasional twist on my classic look.
