"Skin Body Soul" Laurie Hoyt (Estetician) review: facials are affordable, luxurious, thorough and long! I never feel rushed here. She steams my face and does extractions too! Her products all smell wonderful and are all safe. She has done peels on me too which are very effective for getting baby soft skin again. She also has done eyebrow shaping that looked great! She is experienced and it shows. I go once per month and in 6 months I have seen a HUGE improvement in my skin!!! It looks the best it has looked in over 5 years! I no longer use harsh acne medications or retin-a products. If you want to improve your skin, I highly recommend Laurie. Ok so I got another cornrow style on 6/4/16 by Patience. See pix. This style was a remake of a style I did on my own head. What you don't see is the single cornrow going from the base to the crown of my head in the back because of how my hair was put up. This day, Patience appeared extremely distacted by 2 visitors, her son and her pastor. They came at 2 different times. I understood her child being there for a few min to be picked up. What I couldn't get is how quickly she forgot my request as her braiding technique went from gentle and patient to tight and fast. Yeah, her son was irritating her and I in turn felt this emotion on my scalp. I told her during my 1st visit, via email, and this visit how sensitive my hairline is. I also repeatedly told her when the braid she started was too tight. Hmp, she even told me I "complained" and how I was the only person who told her she braids too tight. Patience even said she would apply edge control and start the row further back as if that's going to make it looser. I admit she asked me several times if a braid was too tight. A few days later. Patience asked if my hairline relaxed. That's where the credit ends. Btw I ended up w small bumps in different areas of my hairline because it was so tight. This is also something I warned her would happen if her braiding is too tight. Both a comb and hair extensions fell to the floor. In turn, those same items were used in my head. Why?! When I got home and took a closer look at my new do, I noticed the up do was on the sloppy side. A few days later, it was starting to come down. Also, Patience used to much gel at the start of some of the rows. This resulted in caked, flaking gunk that I picked off. So much for thinking she was on point with styling. Ms. Patience seems to be a cool person, but I won't be returning. I care to keep my hairline. Oh, I returned a 2nd time to give her the benefit of doubt. Mo hair. read more

I found out about Salons by JC from an awesome Livingsocial deal. I was a little hesitant because the deal seemed too good to be true for haircut, full highlights, and glaze. However, as a college student you take what you can get, so I went ahead with it. At first I was disappointed because my originally scheduled appointment was canceled less than an hour before the appointment. Although the hair stylist was incredibly apologetic, I was already on the way to the salon, and I had planned the appointment before a trip to California. The hair stylist wasn't able to reschedule me until after my trip. That being said Brandi Cooper, my hair stylist, did a fantastic job on my highlights and cut. I came in with highlights grown out (almost to the point of an ombre look), and I wanted the same highlight color touched up. She was really friendly and worked with obvious professional skill. My thick head of hair took only about 1.5 hours, and I am very happy with the end result. The highlights are the exact color I wanted, and my hair looks shiny and healthy. I would definitely recommend Brandi Cooper to others! read more

I went to Topher to get my hair cut and colored and I am in love with what he did! I decided to go lighter, which I've never done, so I was nervous. Topher provided some constructive suggestions about what would look good with my skin tone and we decided on a beige blond balayage. It was really interesting to hear him talk about the process, he obviously knows his stuff. I'm really happy with the results and I'll definitely return when it's time for more color. read more

I decided to give this salon a chance since my regular stylist was booked , and I needed to get my hair done. There are many stylists there, and it was just my TERRIBLE misfortune to be booked with BRANDI COOPER. I went in for blonde highlights, red low lights, root touch up, and a trim. Blond highlights...good. Red low lights...fine...on top of my head, anyway. My roots in the front (which I didn't see til I got in the car) completely missed! But what really took the cake was the most HORRENDOUS haircut I have ever, ever, EVER had in my life! After she finished the blow out, she hurriedly charged me, claiming she had to get down the hall to throw towels in the drier. I never saw the back of my hair til I got home and looked at it with my own mirror. And when I saw it....Shock! Horror! TEARS! I mulled all of this over for a day and a half before I decided to contact her to request only a PARTIAL refund so that I could get this mess fixed, and I sent her photos of my roots and the hack job to back up my request.. I honestly (and quite mistakenly) thought she would handle the situation professionally. WOW, was I ever wrong. Get ready for this.....not only did she accept absolutely no responsibility for that unbelievably horrible haircut, but she actually accused me of doing it to MYSELF!! She did offer to touch up the roots. Because, after all, she couldn't deny THAT! If she could have accused me of magically growing them out in a day, I am sure she would have. UH....NO. There is no way on Earth that I would ever let someone so incompetent get their hands on my hair a second time. So just be warned, ladies. The stylists there are independent contractors, (and I am in no way implying the other stylists there are like BRANDI) meaning they rent a room in a building and work for themselves. If she had worked for a regular salon, the manager or owner most assuredly would have made this right. But she works for herself. So DENY DENY DENY and SHIFT THE BLAME is the name of the game with her. If you value your hair, and we all do, DO NOT go to BRANDI COOPER. not only is she incompetent, but she is unscrupulous as well. I would give zero stars if I could. If you have a family or a young child, this place is not for you. I prefer to have my family go to my hair stylist for their hair cuts. BUT at Salons for J.C., this is not the case. My husband and I felt very uncomfortable and my 7 year old son couldn't even laugh. One woman kept walking by us while giving us a disapproval look. I am very very disappointed and offended with the management, especially Dana (whatever her name is) and I do not intend to recommend this place to any of my friends, family or co-workers. I would have not chosen a complete star but only HALF a star. This is how dissatisfied I am with Salons by J.C. As a stylist that has been renting a suite here for over 2 years I have to say I love it! Having a private suite and being my own boss has been a blessing and I thoroughly enjoy coming to work everyday. It's conveniently located, it has a beautiful design and my favorite is that I have 24hr access because my schedule can be chaos sometimes. I have made friends with other stylists here that will be lifelong friends and enjoy the little community we have built. My husband finally answered on the 4th call and asked her to quit calling. So I went to her on Friday 8/7/15 for a 2 inch trim...walked in with hair to my waist & walked out with a butchered job of a hair cut. She was unprofessional, took a nap while I sat under the dryer getting a deep condition, offered my daughter cake she had been eating off of, kept closing her eyes while she was cutting (obviously!) and while blow drying my hair dozed off & fell into me! Terrible terrible visit! Most certainly NOT a trim & a horrible horrible cut job as well. I called the owner, Dana, after I left & she apologized ten times over & sent me to her personal hair dresser on Sunday to fix it. Jen did a great job of correcting the awful mess done by Kimberly but now I'm stuck with much shorter hair for a while :-/ Go figure...I'd read all the negative reviews on Kimberly AFTER my terrible experience! This review is specifically for JENNA S. I have been trusting Jenna with my hair for over 2 years. Jenna isn't afraid to give her input and lets you know what cut or style she thinks will work best for you. She also isn't afraid to do dramatic color and seems to know what I want to do with my hair. I've gone from black hair to blonde in two sessions. Previous stylists were too afraid and wouldn't even try. She has also done balayage highlites on me. She is the balayage Queen! I took the leap last year and decided to cut off about 12 inches of my hair. She is the only stylist I would trust with this task. Another task I would only trust her with is razoring my hair. I have thick hair and she razors it but keeps enough so my hair still has volume. She is reasonably priced and I always leave super pleased with my new do. She loves her job and her work reflects that. Hair styling aside she, as a person, is delightful. She's so sweet and easy to talk to making the overall experience enjoyable. I use to be the person who put off hair cuts because the stylist always said they had to cut a lot of hair to get the layers I wanted. I would leave unhappy and with shorter hair than I wanted. Jenna told me this isn't true and never cuts more than I tell her to. Simply put book your appointment. One of the tenants in this location made me feel very uncomfortable. She actually had a Hispanic electrician watch me & my wife until my wife's stylist arrived. I felt that was racist & uncalled for. She stated that this wasn't the case, which is often the response when this issue is brought up. If this wasn't the case, then tell me why the electrician resumed his job duties and left the front area after my wife's stylist arrived. Hair by Maryalice is a diamond in the rough! She's SO incredible! She managed to squeeze me in three days before my wedding for a trim and color. She educated me on the process of getting the color I thought I wanted and we decided together to go a different route. She then completely took me by surprise by creating a custom color just for me! I currently have my business here and I am very thankful to have such an opportunity to run my small business here. The place is always very clean and kept in a business like manner. Operating a quiet relaxing spa in a salon with over 30 individuals and their clients can get very hectic. The manager/owner does a fabulous job keeping this place professional and quiet. I came in for a haircut, deep condition, highlights, style and cut. She took her time throughout it all and it was clear she has years of experience. I bought a groupon for this company as it was only $20 for a Women's haircut and conditioning treatment which I needed so I decided to cash it in. I called the number and Kimberly Pierce was my stylist. I booked my appt on the first call and showed up on time and it went wonderfully. She was so easy to talk to, fun to work with, was really attentive to detail on my long hair with layers, and I really enjoyed working with her that I tipped 50% of the groupon total itself! I highly recommend Kimberly Pierce. I even am trying to book an appointment with her to simply style my hair for an Engagement Shoot next week. She is super sweet and I think regardless of some of these reviews you guys should try her out! Review for Kimberly (hair colorist). SO UNHAPPY WITH SERVICE!!! I booked my hair cut/color for a friend and I a week ago and sent emailed pictures of our requested hair color. The day of the appointment (2 hours before), I called to confirm and she let me know that she didn't have anything CLOSE to the hair color I'd emailed, the only color she had was red. As I took off work for this appointment, I am livid and strongly suggesting you do not visit this woman. When I told her I felt upset that she failed to let me know this before the day of the appointment she said "okay.", not even an "I apologize"!! I am driving a few feet away and my cell goes off. I was driving, so didn't answer. When I pull up to the front door, which is 3:50 pm (10 minutes early), the same person (can't understand her name, but both calls to change appt were from 208-241-8XXX left a voicemail that her current appointment was taking longer than she anticipated and if I could come in at 5pm. Are you serious???!! I almost called back, but was so ticked off, I just drove away. I couldn't believe it. If you are the owner, you should consider another line of work. Absolutely disappointing. I hit the jackpot! I have lived in Austin for many years and the unthinkable happened; I ended up on the streets without a permanent hair stylist. It was as serious as if my doctor had retired. I tried here and I tried there, but I was accustomed to knowing the best because I once styled hair and I guess I'm more aware of the skill involved. Today I had my hair colored and cut by a young lady who put the others I had tried to shame! Her name is Chelo located at Salons By JC in South Austin. She magically made me a blonde by using the balayage technique and created a layered haircut similar to the picture I had been carrying around only better! I bought a Groupon for a haircut and a brazilian blow out. I made the appt a couple of weeks in advance. Talked to her twice, the second time was to correct her on the wrong day/date combination. She said she had an appointment on the correct day and said she would fix it. I then tried to call and ask a pretty important question. There was no answer so I left a message. Upon not hearing back, I called again a several hours later and there was no answer. I called the morning of my appt and again there was no answer. I had a feeling something was going to go wrong with my appointment. I arrived at the door to not find the stylist. She was getting lunch. I waiting only a couple minutes which was the only good thing about this experience. When she finally arrived she didn't even introduce herself, let alone say hello. She asked me if I was there for a haircut and style. I said no I'm the one with the blow out and haircut. I told her my name and she tells me my appt was yesterday! Are you kidding me! We had talked about my appt twice. So I was apparently supposed to be there yesterday and she didn't even think to call me asking where I was or hey I dont know, confirm my appt? I left you a message woman talking about my appt the next day. She made a sorry excuse for an apology and said she couldn't do my hair. I eneded up getting a refund from Groupon. Thanks guys. So whatever you do do not go to kimberly at this company. Kimberly kimberly kimberly! Her last name is Pierce. Brenda Cisneros was the worst experience I have ever had with a hairdresser. I had a decent first appointment and it was downhill from there. I scheduled my next appointment ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE. I received a text 4 days before my appointment to tell me she would be out of town that day and would I like to reschedule, but gave me no options on time or day. We rescheduled for 1:00 that Friday. At 12:59, she texted me to tell me she was across the street (I-35) trying to buy my hair color. Really?? You didn't think of buying it earlier that JUST BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT? The beauty supply did not have it, so we rescheduled AGAIN for the next day at 12:45, but she offered to come in on her day off (Monday) to make it up to me. At 9:35, I received a text asking if I could come in Tuesday. I texted her back and asked about Monday. When I did not hear from her, I canceled. VERY unprofessional behavior. She tried to blame it on the manager of the beauty supply and swore this had never happened before. I doubt it. She clearly does not know how to put the customer first. She should have had my color way before my appointment was scheduled and made mealy mouthed excuses. read more
