I have been going here for 25 years and have always had great service. The prices are fantastic, so much more affordable than traditional salon services. And every service is overseen by an instructor so you never have to worry. I've had cuts and color, including balayage and highlights. Fridays is the best day to go and make sure you show up 10 min before they open if you want to be seen quickly. If you come later you may need to wait 20-25 min to be seen. read more

I used to live near this place so I could walk which was nice. They do not take appointments so be prepared to wait during certain hours. I just went for a wash and blow dry. My sweet stylist, Silas, was nice. I could tell that she was fairly new to working with clients. They take classes for about 8 weeks before coming into the floor. She told me she started in January. You do the math. (It's March) ;) I really wanted someone to wash my hair. I mean who doesn't love that! One of the things I have always liked about this place was that there are instructors all around. I saw three of them that day. Many of the girls were new and the instructors came out to teach and actually step in to show them a technique. An instructor will always come to check your hair before you leave so don't worry! Just for a reference, my wash and blow dry was 10 bucks!! They take tips but cash only!! I felt horrible as I only had 2 dollars to give my girl. The instructor made me feel just fine about it. She told me I didn't even need to leave a tip. The girls just love having the experience on the floor. So be prepared to bring cash if you would like to leave a tip. $$$ read more

I have be coming to Baldwin for over 10 years for a men's haircut as a walk-in without issue. Today all thing changed. For the first time I was asked to make any appointment to get a cut. Something that would have taken 10 minutes and a 10 doller tip. They said there was no one available and was not willing to check if someone could do it so. They have no sign up stating appointments required a they were very rude about. If you read this put up a sign stating appointments nessarey walk-ins not allowed. read more

I just wanted to say if I could rate a zero I would, the thing about this is I was really looking forward to my services, I booked in advance and this was my second time here, the student stylists was nice, it was the instructor/receptionists absolutely rude and disrespectful all she could do is say what she was not going to do, but nothing she could do, I have alot of hair and felt disrespected and talked down to , so while she was mixing the color SHE felt was right and did not give me a choice in color , i took off my cape and left... I went for a men's haircut and was told by an instructor that they are uncomfortable cutting my hair because they are not used to many people coming in with my hair texture. When I let the manager know about the micro aggression she apologized but then doubled down by saying we are not used to people with your hair. BEWARE! Do not allow your sister, daughter, girlfriend, or anyone else to enroll in this school! While the students are kind and striving to do their best, the owners are highly unprofessional and inappropriate. They exhibit misogynistic, manipulative, and abusive behaviors, running their business in a cult-like manner. * The owner delivers what she calls "lectures," which often devolve into rants about inappropriate subjects unrelated to beauty school. * She frequently mentions her "God-fearing" Christian beliefs, imposing her religious views on the students, creating an atmosphere that feels cult-like and unsettling. * She expects students to endure hours of these rants, with many choosing to leave the room. * Additionally, she discusses her own mental health issues and medication, as well as her daughter's struggles, which is both disturbing and unprofessional. There are numerous recordings of these rants. Many young students feel trapped, having invested thousands of dollars in tuition and financial aid, leaving them without the means to transfer elsewhere. STAY AWAY!!! especially if you a student. My wife enrolled here back in February and was on track to graduate in August as an esthetician. Graduation was set, diner reservation were made with friends and family, party was planned. This is where it's gets ugly. My wife was terminated 10 hours (1 day) short of her graduation. The owner ( Wendy) screamed at my wife in front of all the esthetician students calling her names and belittling her. Wendy walked in on my wife getting her Brazilian from another student asking about some drama from the south school about another student. My wife and I drove all the way down south and had a very unprofessional meeting with the co owner Randy Baldwin. After about 30 mins of the most narcissistic attitude we left with no resolve. This guy had the nerve to tell myself that he "is sorry I can't keep my wife in line." Please please please reconsider to another school if you want to get your esthetician license. I really feel sorry for all the girls that are already enrolled but if it wasn't for them my wife would have dropped this joke of a school along time ago. I love Baldwin Beauty Schools. I have been to the south location 3x now and I will definitely be back. The students and staff are lovely. I have had balayages and cuts here and honestly it's not much different than getting it done at a regular salon. It does take a bit longer usually, so make sure to plan ahead for staying occupied and fed. I was there yesterday. My stylist Sara was awesome. My color and cut turned out just how I asked. The lady at the front desk however was probably the rudest person I've ever encountered in a service environment, and I deal with customers all day at my job. She told me how much my color would be and I informed her that the website said something different. As in she said $45 for my color and the website said $30 to $35. Her exact words were "It starts at $45 babe" in the most condescending tone possible. First off I'm 35 years old, not your babe, disgusting. Second I came in expecting to pay a specific amount and had a question, not unusual. Then she charges my card for the wrong amount, blames it on me and has to charge it again. read more

Honestly very pleasantly surprised. I got a Groupon for a cut and color here. When I got there and told the women what I wanted, they explained to me that it would be more of a balayage, not a single process color, and it would be a $15 upcharge. Honestly, no problem as $50 (not including tip) is still an amazing deal for a cut, color, wash, condition, and blow dry! I unfortunately didn't get their names, but the two students who worked on me were super attentive and friendly, as was everyone else I spoke to. I'm really happy with how my hair turned out! While I was there, one of the students was graduating the program and they had a little ceremony with her while her family was there, it was sweet and you get the impression that the teachers really care about their students and they all love what they do. read more

BESDIE NOT PRACTICING SOCIAL DISTANCE... I called and asked about the $39 Groupon deal , they told me to not purchase on the app just do it in store the day of the appt. the deal was "color/cut/treatment".I have long hair so I was already expecting to pay more no problem at all, but my problem is when they DID NOT want to honor the groupon deal.... and I ONLY wanted the color part! when I showed them the screen shot (thank god I saved it) she said "well we can do the $47+$30) but we can't honor the $39. $10 is not much difference but wth! Why lie. Then the stylist mixed the color before showing me what it would look like, when I asked will I see it, she said "oh I already mixed it but it's what u want" and continued to section my hair... WHAT? THEN, they switched stylist on me mid process without any explanation.... and brought and old lady to sit RIGHT NEXT TO ME on the station that says "STATION IS CLOSED TO PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCE" WTHHH!!! Let me clarify this first in saying this is not my first time at a hair school. I have been to a handful of others to get my haircut through the years. Heck, in college, I exclusively went to a hair school for hair cuts. This was my first time at a Balwin Beauty School. There are two locations: north and south; I went to the south location. When you walk in, it definitely looks like a hair school. All of the other schools I have been to look a little more upscale or try to look more like a salon. This location is very cramped looking with only seats in mirrors in rows with hair students loudly hustling and bustling about. I put my name on a list and said what services I would like done-they are walk in only. I didn't wait even five minutes before being helped. My student took me to her location where she shooed other students away. She asked what I wanted and before I even finished she had scissors in her hand ready to cut. This stressed me out my entire time there. Ever other hair school I have been to the student does a consultation with the customer, then checks in with an instructor to make sure they have a plan. The instructor might come by periodically to check on the process and signs off at the end. I NEVER saw an instructor. No one ever came by to check on anything. My student kept telling me what scissors she was going to use and how she was going to cut my hair throughout. It was almost as though she was asking me for my permission. I don't know what type of scissors or way to cut my hair. In the end, I think, my hair turned out the way I was hoping. I'm still not quite sure. I don't know that I will go back for a cut. Maybe a color if I know my exact color that I want. It would be ideal for a girl with long hair that just needs a trim or a man that is an easy buzz cut. read more

I left voicemail asking for an appointment at 2 pm on a Saturday, no response. I drove to the location trying to find it as a walk in at 7 pm, place was closed. From their voicemail, their business hours are from 2 pm to 9 pm? I texted saying I wanted an appointment and got response within a couple of minutes only to be told that no appointments were available for the following day. That's over 5 hours without a response. For the past 6 years, I have gone there to get my hair cut and colored. As you can imagine, students have rotated out, so I rarely get to see the same stylist twice. Inexpensive haircuts ($5!! -- additional services cost more, including blowdry (though that's sometimes free), dye/highlights, perms) that pretty much rock as long as you get a decent stylist. They must get good training. My stylist had passed a 500 hour training threshold, or higher, and really knew her stuff. They require them to work in the school for months. Also offers manicures, pedicures and waxing, though I've heard iffy things about the leg wax. Give them a conservative estimate of what you want, and you can always ask them to go a little crazier if you like what you're seeing, or run out and get the rest done by a pricier stylist. The atmosphere is not relaxing, but they do a long, nice shampoo that'll make you feel better about the chemical smell, kids, cranky old ladies and general noise. Thinking about going to school here? A few months back I got a drastic, short hair cut that the expensive ($65) stylist botched. He didn't listen and I hated it. I've dealt with it and have been praying to the hair gods that it grows out. Well it is slowly growing, but I had a bit of a mullet situation happening in the back -- typical for a short hair cut. Not wanting to go to a salon and spend $40 to have an inch trimmed off the back to de-mullet, I found Baldwin. I have to say for $7 + tip, I love the hair cut. Great value and I actually felt safe in the hands of a student because there was always a supervisor walking around and checking my progress. The student was very thorough and made very sure that I was totally satisfied. It may have taken a bit longer than expected for such a simple hair cut, but it was well worth it. My mullet is gone and I will go back next time I need an in-between cut or quick fix for a minor hair issue. Totally worth it. read more

I've gone here for haircuts for almost a year now. I was just there today, and I had the best haircut yet. Jessie Cruz was my stylist and she was fun and was really focused on my hair coming out well. It now looks amazing, and only cost 5$. I have had some haircuts that I didn't rave about, and some that I did, but never a downright bad one. These folks are learning, so be prepared to sit, as it can take awhile and they sometimes have to talk with a supervisor. However, since they are students, I would just as soon they took a little longer and didn't make mistakes. This is not the place to go if you have no idea what you want. The students seem to work best with direction, and understandably can get a little nervous if you just tell them to do whatever. Be direct and honest if you feel uncomfortable, they really want to do a good job. Don't forget to tip! These guys pay to work there, and since you are saving so much on your cut, you might as well pass on the love. read more
