I had my first facial ever with Leah and I'm honestly so impressed I was her model and she made the whole experience feel so comfortable and relaxing from start to finish. She kept me informed the entire time, explaining what she was doing and why, which made me learn so many new things about my skin. Her hands are amazing the massage was so soothing and you can tell she really cares about what she's doing. Everything felt super professional and calming. I left feeling refreshed, glowing, and just overall taken care of. read more

So sad!!!! Last massage here! They will no longer be teaching massage at the school and will be adding nail services. I'm sure the nail services will be amazing. All the massages I've received here have been top notch! Kyle gave me my last two massages and they were the best massages ever!!!! Megan at the front desk is amazing too. She has helped me so many times get an appointment and it's always an easy checkout! read more

Brandi R is the aesthetician that did my facial. I selected an hour facial and she asked about my concerns. Brandi offered an anti aging update which I wasn't aware was available. I came out with soft, glowing skin. The products felt dewy and smoothed out my facial lines. I felt totally relaxed and confident. My skin looked great! Would highly recommend Brandi R because she's very pleasant and knowledgeable. Thank you! read more

I come to Avenue Five Institute on a monthly basis for a facial or a massage and it is such a treat! To be able to have such nice treatments at an affordable price is amazing. Any service I have had has been incredible. Aside from it being a beauty school with those in training, the ambiance is what allows for the services to be at a cheaper price. Instead of a private room for a facial/massage you will be in more of a hospital style community room with several beds with curtains in between. This did not bother me and they still had relaxing music and I am able to unwind no problem (I have been at the verge of falling asleep many times). Staff is lovely and always makes sure you are comfortable throughout the entire treatment. Plenty of parking in the lot as well. Could not recommend this place enough! read more

Worst hair coloring I've ever experienced. I've been watching people highlight my hair for 10+ years and a blind person could have done a better job. It would have been decent if the student actually followed the instructions of the teacher but instead she just sectioned off chunks of hair, slapped bleach on it, and called it a day. Didn't weave any of the hair for a single panel, leaving me with chunky highlights from the 90s. To top off the experience, they rushed through the entire wash and tone, so it didn't tone properly and nothing was rinsed out very well. I left with soaking wet, tangled hair that still had a bunch of product in it. I understand this is a school, and people are there to gain experience and learn, but even I know you are supposed to weave through the hair before you put it on a foil. Students won't learn a thing if they can't listen to basic instructions. read more

I had Niya as my esthetician and let me say she's great she took her time I got a facial, lash lift, and underarm wax done by her. She took her time on the facial and to focus on what I needed to have targeted during the facial for my face. The lash lift was a bit of a process but loved the outcome did not have any of my natural lashes fall off or react bad to any of the products as a first time getting lashes lifted! Lastly the underarm was a very quick and easy process and she was able to make sure it was all cleared by the end of the session ! read more

Genuinely, and not exaggerating, the worst haircut of my life. I understand you're taking your life into your hands because this is a teaching situation, but I've been going to Avenue Five for years without such trauma. My hair is ruined; too short, uneven, choppy, nonsensical. There's no way to fix it. I might need to shave it off and wear wigs. Yes it's a "great deal," but not when you factor in the price of reparation and therapy. I asked for a refund and they instead charged my card a SECOND time. What... Good god stay away. read more

I only been to Avenue five once But I had jaibreon T she did amazing I had a pro 60 she helped me with my acne and when she was done I didn't see my acne as much I would recommend her to anyone she is very sweet and professional she talks to you and tells you what's she's doing and what it will help with and recommend products at the end of her service and I was so impressed with her work read more

I am so glad I was able to get in on short notice last night! I had asked for an advanced student because I've had 2 so so haircuts since arriving in Austin and am thrilled to have found Kayla because I'm going to follow her whichever salon she ends up in upon graduation after seeing the great job she did for me. I'm super picky, and she and the instructor nailed my color. I'm a natural blonde and then color it, so there was a lot of growth that needed color that I never knew who to go to because I hate spending a ton of money without a referral. I knew a school would have someone watching over the process and am extremely pleased. Now, I can't wait to try all the other beauty services they offer. So reasonable and everyone was super nice. I wenf in the South, but there's a school in the North, too. I like this one because Chikfila is in the complex for a quick bite after work. I also like that the school is open late because I can't do anything during the day and get tired of doing things that are time-consuming on weekends. read more

I have been to Avenue 5 North and had several facials with Makayla H., microdermabrasion, and now having a series of chemical peels. Makayla is very professional and conducts the services with knowledge and care. She analyzes your skin to use the best and appropriate products for your skin. She walks you through the complete process while checking on your comfort level the entire time. Her touch is great, just the right amount of pressure and warmth. I look forward to following her after graduation...... read more

Jessica just gave me the best (&quickest) hair coloring service I've ever seen and probably saved my wedding she is seriously going to make an incredible stylist. She was very professional, and gave me such VALUABLE info while I was in her chair. She taught me several new tips I specifically can use at home for better hair, and somehow turned my dull flat mess into vibrant bouncy curls again! Incredible experience, excellent customer service, and attention to detail like a pro. I would recommend her to anyone for a service! read more

I have been working with Z in the esthetician program for a few months now and she has been absolutely amazing. i was at a loss on what to do with my skin, I tried every product, every diet, and every tip I could but nothing worked. I have very sensitive skin and I break out with everything. Z always listened to me and she has worked so incredibly hard to help me. She has gone above and beyond what anyone else has done for me. After doing chemical peels and hydrating facials with her, I've turned into someone that wore a full face of makeup everyday to cover my acne, to someone who only wears concealer under my eyes. I am fully confident in my skin for the first time in 10 years. I've had so many people tell me how much better my skin looks after working with her. She always has a good energy, she always has a smile, and she's never made me feel embarrassed about my skin. I will continue to go to Z even after she graduates, she is the absolute best and I tell everyone about her read more

I really want to enjoy this establishment more, but they never answer their phone. The services are at unbeatable prices. $25 for Brow Laminations. $40 Massages. $20 Facials. I'm so thankful to have been introduced to the facility and will try to keep coming back, but the customer service lacks at times. The "sassyness" could afford to be toned down. read more

This was a disaster from the get go. First, I called and made an appointment. Whoever I spoke with didn't seem to have a clue, and it turns out just made up a name (not even close to mine), so when I showed up, they couldn't find my appointment. The girl I was supposed to see (who looked like she knew what she was doing) thought I had not shown up and ended up taking someone else. They took me as a walk-in and stuck me with some guy who clearly has chosen the wrong profession. My first clue was the shampoo which is usually one of my favorite parts of getting my hair done. He struggled for close to 10 mins. trying to get the water temperature right. He never did. It would be cold so he would struggle to adjust it and then it would be hot, before struggling to adjust it back to cold again. When he shut the water off to shampoo me, I cringed because I knew we would have to go through that all again and I ended up suffering in silence with an uncomfortably hot rinse. Worse than that, he somehow managed to pour water down my neck and face. When it came to the actual cut, things did not improve. He did not ever section my hair, but just started randomly picking an area and cutting, before moving to some other random part of my head. It was clear he didn't know what he was doing. He never sectioned my hair or appeared to have any kind of a plan. After a couple of swipes at my hair, clearly unsure what to do next, he left to get an instructor, and long story short, the instructor ended up doing 99% of the cut. I wish I could say that I walked out happy in the end, but I didn't. He left the sides too long, and there was no blending from the top to the sides. As a side note, this is not my first experience with school salons. But it will be my last with Avenue Five. read more

Everyone is nice and the place seems clean and organized but you get what you pay for with an $18 haircut I guess. My bangs were cut so chunky and not at all like the photo I showed. My hair stylist was nice and super friendly but unfortunately the haircut is one of the worst I've gotten. read more

I visited Kimberly for a facial and she did not disappoint. I have never had a facial before and I wasn't sure what to expect. The session started with a steam to warm the skin and help open the pores. Then the aromatic massage relaxed me. While applying various products and using a tool to gently scrape my skin I was surprised at what I had missed all these years! Kimberly did an outstanding job. I highly recommend her. I was so relaxed after my hour session I had trouble walking to my car... . I can't wait to go back. read more

Just got my hair colored yesterday with Judy who's graduating. She did a wonderful job. Pro tip: make sure when you schedule that the instructor on the floor is Katy (Hungarian) because she is the bomb. I'll post before and after photos. My hair was pink and roots were over due. They did a silk cap wash on me to take out the pink and lift the roots 1st so that my hair would not be damaged. Learned something new, my hairdresser of 8 years never did that. Afterwards they foiled my hair and toned it until I was happy without any attitude. Thank you very much Katy and Judy. I appreciate your commitment to making me feel fabulous for my birthday trip. All of this would have cost $400ish, it took 4 1/2 hours. I paid $55 Wasn't sure I really want everyone to know this, but if you're reading this, I hope you appreciate it read more

Very clean and friendly staff. Everything is up to date with their best practices. They offer a generous schooling option for people with financial aid. I've been going to Avenue 5 for a while now and have been doing a chemical peel with Tomika for 5 weeks. It's been wonderful - she's so well informed and has such great client relationship skills. I feel safe in her hands and know that she's doing what's best for my skin. She makes sure to check in on me several times a week (and she's just a STUDENT - that is such amazing client care skills, y'all, seriously!), asking how my skin is doing, making sure I am following the product routine and that all is going well. I am just amazed each time I go in with how wonderful Tomika is and her support system, as well. Why spend ridiculous money at a high end salon when you have students and educators like this that truly care about you, your skin and your overall well-being? Thanks for yet another fantastic experience, Tomika! read more

Liz gave me a facial 2 days ago. She was nervous with shaky hands but all products were applied and felt good. I wish she would have told me what she was applying at each step, so I didn't have to ask. My fave part is the steam and she didn't offer that, I had to ask for it. There was a person right next to us that kept talking. Maybe a reminder to clients that it's just curtains in between you and next person and to keep talking at a minimum. It helps them relax more too. Overall it was pleasant. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Times a million! My hair in the before picture is a balayage done by another hair school in the Austin area. Poorly executed. My hair was in need of a MAJOR color correction. Amelia was heaven sent! She greeted me with a great smile and I immediately could trust her by the judge of her professionalism and poise. She was not only able to get me a step closer to my wanted hair color tone, BUT on top of that she was extremely mindful to keep the integrity of my hair intact with hair treatments and deep conditioning. Very detail oriented! Another plus was the surprising affordability of the services at Avenue Five. My double processed color service was $50!!! I was prepared to pay well over $100! Overall, super professional. super affordable. SUPER SATISFIED! read more

I've been to Avenue Five Institute multiple times and am extremely pleased with the facials they offer! The teacher will check in before and after the facials. They really do offer fantastic beauty services for reasonable prices. I wanted to update my review with praise for Kelsey as well! She did my hair this time and did an absolutely incredible job. She really cared about the health of my hair, which I really appreciated. She also absolutely nailed the color I was looking for, and took my dull grey and overgrown roots to an amazing smokey color! She is super awesome. I had the pleasure of working with Deidra, an incredible stylist here! Sometimes it is hit or miss with the students but I loved my experience with her. I asked for a very hard to achieve cool grey to replace my almost green hair. Deidra listened to everything and I wanted and delivered the exact color! It took a while so be prepared for that, but they are so detail oriented and I am so happy with my hair it was so worth it read more
