A cafe/breakfast/plant shop all in one. I can't get over the aesthetic of this place, it's like you're walking into a secret garden with beautiful plants hanging everywhere (the best part is that if you like any of them, they're all available to purchase!). I love the vintage touches to everything from the their decor all the way down to the dinnerware. The menu is unique and all about comfort. I've been here a few times because I am obsessed with the My Breakfast in Tokyo. It isn't heavy but you still feel very satisfied at the end. It's basically like a sushi taco, you get a thick piece of salmon gravlax and I like to mix the poached egg together with the rice and fill the nori with both items. If you're a skeptic, trust it's absolutely delicious. The candied bacon is also divine and I appreciate the nice thick cut. My boyfriend was a big fan of the candied bacon benny. The fry bread with cream is very simple yet delicious. My only issue is that it comes with 3 small pieces of the fry bread which isn't enough for the amount of cream you get. I recommend getting two orders of the fry bread with one order of the cream. The service is great and like many of the reviewers state, preplanning is your best bet and place your name in line online as soon as possible. Definitely forward to future visits! read more

OVERALL: Maven was one of our favorite brunch experiences... ever. FOOD: I had the Lanzhao Braised Beef Cheeks and my wife had the (Calgary) Stampede special. I am still dreaming about that beef because it was SO GOOD. The beef was tender and delicious. My wife's special had a soft egg on French toast and a "sweet and spicy donut" - it was the right combo of savory and sweet for her. If I had to describe it, the food is Asian fusion done right. DRINKS: We had a Cappucino and a Latte, which were great. AMBIANCE: This restaurant doubles as a plant shop. If I had to describe it, it would be tropical art deco. SERVICE: Great. From the hostess to our main server to others checking in and bringing food, everyone was attentive, kind, and knowledgeable. PARKING: To my knowledge, there's only paid parking in this area. This place was amazing. It was my favorite spot we ate in Calgary. We came in without knowing we should have made a reservation, but luckily got seated quickly. This restaurant decor was so comfy and cute, it's also a plant shop. I loved the open kitchen concept, it felt like we were sitting in the chef's home kitchen. A lot of the menu items were Asian inspired, which made my mouth water. I wish I could try every item on the menu. We started with the house toast butter and jam. I really loved the butter lol. I got the "My breakfast in Tokyo" and I was obsessed. The miso soup was so comforting and the pairing with the seaweed, egg, rice and salmon was delightful. 10/10 would recommend this dish. My friend got the spicy crab fried rice. She said it was spicy but so good. Her husband got the cedar honey granola pancake and he said it was good. My husband got the house buttermilk pancakes and said the fruit and whipped cream was delicious. He also ordered the bacon and everyone liked it. Best brunch place ever! I absolutely adore this place. Small but very nice and comfortable. Service is fast and the waiters are very friendly and attentive. Their menu is great and the prices are good. Good thing to know: make a reservation before going because it's really hard to find an empty table. Everything was wonderful! The service and food were both excellent. We visited the restaurant for my birthday brunch and our server even presented me with a little plant as a gift! My favorite item on the menu was the bacon; it was thick and perfectly seasoned. However, my grandmother ordered a spicy dish, as she enjoys spicy food, but it turned out to be a bit too much for her. So, if you are also considering a dish with heat, I would recommend asking for it to be prepared with a little less spice. read more

The service was spectacular but the Yelp app for waiting said to show up at 11:13. We weren't served until noon which made the wait for breakfast two hours before getting in. I would say the Yelp booking app is unreliable and they would be better served using an alternative app with more realistic estimates. I am not someone who usually leaves reviews, but our experience at Maven today was so unfortunate that I felt it needed to be shared so that others can avoid falling into this. We called ahead as soon as they opened to get in line for a table for 10 person birthday celebration. They informed us that we would be on the waitlist and should be good to go by noon. To be safe, we arrived at 11:45 am then waited till we received out message that our table was ready around 12 noon. We were prepared for a short wait, but what followed was a series of frustrating events. Despite checking in early and waiting outside in the sun (we had dressed for the chilly weather, expecting to be seated), we were repeatedly told, "It'll just be a few more minutes." We tried not to be annoying by asking every 20 minutes for updates, but by 12:30 pm--45 minutes into our wait--we were told the table was being set up (by a staff member that seemed annoyed with us). Yet, 20 minutes later, we were informed by a different, very kind staff member, that people were still sitting at the table, even though they had supposedly paid 45 minutes earlier. Management was nowhere to be found to help, and no alternative solution was offered. After an hour and 15 minutes of waiting outside (and an hour after being told our table was "ready"), we were finally seated abruptly. The staff seemed annoyed with us, but we tried to make light of the situation, jokingly mentioning that we should get free mimosas. Instead of an apology or any acknowledgment of the poor experience, we were told that being on the waitlist didn't guarantee a specific time--BUT I would like to point out we were not communicated that we were still on a waitlist and were told that our table was ready - this is not the same thing. Throughout this ordeal, no manager came to address our concerns, leaving us to deal with the front-of-house staff, who clearly had no authority to handle the situation. While I wasn't the birthday person and have done my best to recount this accurately, I didn't want to upset her by making her relive it. The food was delicious, but definitely not worth waiting over an hour for, especially with such poor communication and management. We felt like a burden rather than valued guests. For a restaurant that automatically adds gratuity for large parties, they seem surprisingly unconcerned about customer satisfaction. Overall, food was great, but I would not ever wait for it because even if they say it will be two minutes it could be an hour. If they had told us outright what was happening none of us would have been angry with them. I would not go here with a group larger than 2 MAYBE 4 people. read more

Ordered coffee & the Maven which includes two eggs, sausage or bacon, white brown or sourdough. The place was packed which indicates that your food should be hot and fresh. My poached eggs I ordered runny. One had a solid yoke, the other runny but both room temperature as was everything on the plat. Waitress was efficient, poured coffee as needed but never provided a spoon for my coffee or asked how my meal was or how were the first few bites. I think I have to try it again maybe it was just an off day. Decor and atmosphere noisy and cheerful. read more

I have never written a review before but after our experience at maven this morning, I feel like it's necessary. We went with another couple for brunch today, and were extremely disappointed in the service. We joined the waitlist on the yelp app way ahead of time, and once arriving at the scheduled time we still had to wait at the door for 30 minutes. After we were finally seated and ordered it took a full 50 minutes to get our food. Not once did the server check in with us or apologize for the food taking so long. The portions are also very small for the price, we were still hungry after we left! We will NOT be returning to Maven again. read more

Maven is a gem! We absolutely loved the incredible food, the cozy yet modern atmosphere that had vintage touches and lovely service. We shared the roadside noodles which Chef Michelle said she could eat daily and I can see why. Comforting and simple but delicious. Chris has the pork congee which was literally out of a chapter of chef's life and is like a hug in a bowl. I had the mushrooms eggs benny on fry bread which tasted melt in your mouth. Always want to try the brunch here after saw all the picture posted on Facebook. Me and my husband finally tried it but as we went there on Sunday, we have to out ourselves on the waiting list which took like 2.5 hours to get our sit. But what I can say it's worth it! The food are amazing, me personally really like the cream for the fried bread. Their mussel also amazing, especially the sauce. My husband love their thick cut bacon.
