Birria de res eggs Benedict - IG @bougiefoodieboi
Kyle W.

Originally 4 stars but 5 stars given they professionally remedied the situation I went here on a Tuesday morning for brunch and it was still fairly busy, but I was seated immediately. If you show up after 9am, be prepared to wait a bit or make reservations in advance on Toast to be safe. I tried their newer item, birria de res eggs benedict, which is served on cheese bannock, an indigenous Canadian bread, and opted to sub potatoes/salad for garlic fried rice for 3 CAD surcharge, which is well worth it. The beef was tender and the eggs are perfectly runny and the cheese bannock added heartiness and a more unique texture compared to English muffin. It is a combo of Mexican, indigenous Canadian, and Filipino influences all in 1 dish! To pair with the food, I had a pineapple mimosa which was of good portion. Originally, the dish had hair so I caught it and flagged the issue, so they immediately remade the whole dish for me, apologized, and comped my mimosa so despite losing 10 min of my time, I am okay with this remedy, so I rate this experience for the food and service outside of this incident. This is one of the more innovative and delicious brunch spots I have tried, so it is no surprise this place is fairly hyped up

This place serves very unique brunch menu items. I got the "My Breakfast in Tokyo" and thought it was alright. It came with thick cut smoked salmon on top of sushi seasoned rice with poached eggs, seaweed, and spinach on the side. The seaweed pieces tasted old and were hard to chew. The seasoned rice had too much vinegar in it. The poached egg and salmon tasted fine. It also came with miso soup but it tasted strange, not sure why there was oil in it... miso soup usually does not contain oil. My fiance got the Breakfast in Manila and thought it was alright as well. The rice was too salty and the sausage tasted like low quality meat. It seemed like they were short on waitresses and it took a while for them to take our order and for us to get the check. This place is also a plant store and it felt cozy. Overall had a decent experience.

I had to wait around 15-30 min in Sunday morning. The place was full of people enjoying their brunch. The staff were friendly and taste was good. It was a little weird that they provided normal lengthy straw for such a small cup

Singapore crab fried rice, Kaya French toast, London Fog, n Cafe mocha- - all delish!!

One of the best brunch we've ever had!! Such a cute place! I was tickled to read the menu and loved seeing such diverse selection of entrees. Everything g sounded so delectable that we had such a hard time narrowing down to two dishes. We had Kaya French toast and crab fried rice. Sweet and savory...perfect combination! They were so tasty and presentation was equally delicious to the eyes! Someone on the review said be sure to order the London Fog tea as it will be a treat and boy, it sure was!! Didn't even leave a drip! My hubby ordered Cafe Mocha and that tasted like what we had in Europe. Rich and delish!! Our waitress was the sweetest and she really helped to complete our whole food experience at Maven. We are sad that we cannot return to this place as we are just visiting Calgary, but we will remember this lovely brunch place for a long time!

The Maven has such a sweet mix of energy inside! Unique atmosphere with hanging and potted houseplants uniquely hung for table privacy to kitschy vintage decor, Maven's menu is reflective of that same vibe! Part of our group started off with mimosas from the bar while others enjoyed coffee and house made London Fog tea (a must have indulgence if you visit). We tried everything from scrambled eggs, hazelnut and peanut butter filled french toast ("Victoria Peak French Toast": this thick cut French Toast is like a grown up peanut butter and hazelnut sandwich), and lastly a Tokyo inspired breakfast dish ("My Breakfast in Tokyo":miso sake salmon gravlax, poached eggs, and miso soup). Whether you play it safe or take on global inspired bites, you can't go wrong with breakfast, brunch, or lunch at Maven. Just a short walk from the tower too!

We came here as they were one of the featured restaurants for yyc hotchocolatefest. Needless to say, I had the orange/chocolate, which was delicious, with a shot of espresso! They were incredibly busy so the server took awhile to take our order. I had candied, bacon eggs Benedict, with oven roasted potatoes and sour cherry jam. My boyfriend had a mimosa and the bannock funghi eggs Benedict Both dishes were delicious Cute hipster place

Spicy fried rice Dungeness crab egg

I was looking for a great brunch place n wow! It's like asian fusion (didn't know till I was there ). Was thinking of having sweet French toast but spicy fried rice with Dungeness crab eggs . Highly recommended . My bf had make your own breakfast, his sausage was over cooked (too dry) so one star off. Service was ok nothing crazy. Lots of young crowds.

Cute spot to stop by for brunch! We came by after landing in Calgary for our first meal. There's a good amount of street parking and we didn't have any trouble finding a spot. There's two spaces - the more restaurant section in the front and the cafe in the back that's the plant space. We were seated in the plant cafe and loved the decor. For food we split the hoisin duck benedict and braised beef cheeks. Both had good flavors - the duck benedict came with a big salad and thin slices of duck. It was a bit odd that it was served on a slice of sourdough bread rather than english muffins but the flavors worked well together. The braised beef was also super flavorful but had a good amount of fat that was inedible. It came with spaetzle which was an interesting twist but I found the pasta to be too heavy with the braised beef and it didn't have a ton of flavor. Overall a cute spot for brunch and would recommend to stop by!

Maven Classic and Bacon Benny soooo good!!

Five stars for brunch. If you are heading back from a holiday in Banff, you should treat yourself and go to this Gem in Calgary. Unique style as the plates were decorative, cute small garden out front, and quaint small brunch spot. Service was good and received great recommendations on the menu. Bring your appetite because as you can see from the photo the portion sizes are more than adequate. Use the Yelp App to join the waitlist made getting in a breeze and I can't wait to come back to Banff and make my brunch stop at Maven again. You won't be disappointed!

Truffle Mushroom Benedict

We loved trying Maven and would definitely go back again. The decor was beautiful with all of the greenery and a had a homey atmosphere. To start we got a cappuccino and a latte which were both great. We ordered the truffle mushroom Benedict which was absolutely delicious. Perfect amount of truffle, poached egg and the fried bread was not heavy at all. We also ordered the Kaya French toast that had coconut pandam custard that was amazing. Not overly sweet, fresh with the fruit and no need for syrup. The service was great! Our waiter had great recommendations. We would definitely come back on our next trip. This is a great place for vegetarian options.

Panna Cotta with Sans Rival

Service was amazing! The new menu is delicious - I loved the corned beef Pan de Sal breakfast sandwich - the Pan de Sal was fluffy and warm, and the corned beef was so tender. Panna cotta is one of my favourite desserts so I'm happy to still see it on the menu.

Tokyo Breakfast

I loved my Tokyo breakfast. Not sure what my friend got -- so I'll only review my dish. Serving proportions looks small but is actually quite filling. Quality was good. Nothing amazing tho. I found this to be a creative breakfast selection. I enjoyed Service was great! They check your coats for you which I was happy about. Ambiance is cute and is a vibe. Clean and well maintained. Enjoyed my brunch. Will go again.

We've been to maven twice now the food has not disappointed yet! Very unique fusion dishes that are not offered anywhere else. Service is always quick and the staff friendly. And the plants! Love the cozy interior of this place!

A VERY special and LOUD shout out to hostess Phoebe for making my birthday EXTRA happy this past…read moreSaturday. Kind, well-spoken, gentle, efficient, always a smile on her face and she went above and beyond. I had a 12:15 pm reservation. Unfortunately a group was taking much longer than expected. I waited over 30+ mins to be seated and so yes, I could've made a scene, but that wouldn't be me. Phoebe could've just let things be ... you know? Because "it is what it is". But she didn't. Once she seated me and my friend, she offered to take photos for me and of me. SO thoughtful! She also brought me a beautiful ice cream with a sparkling candle in it. SO sweet! She smiled at me every time she walked by almost as a way to make sure I was doing OK and feeling good. She was WAY more attentive than our female server who looked, sounded and acted like she couldn't leave work soon enough. Wasn't going to let her dampen my birthday though... Food tasted good. Presentation was beautiful. The male server who took over was SUPERB. Genuinely happy to "close out" our transaction with him. He was super attentive and willing to make everything go well. Thank you, Phoebe and male server for making my birthday memorable. XO

You only have about 5 or 6 spaces since it seems like the rest of the spaces have a "no parking" sign in front of each space... wtf... The place was nicely decorated and quaint. Loved the vibe. We walked in at 8am, opening time, and there were two parties sitting already. We got seated and looked at the menu. Our waitress was very friendly and mentioned that the Queens Breakfast, and the Montreal Smoked Brisket were the popular dishes. I decided on the Omelette Al Tartufo and my wife decided on the Montreal Smoked Brisket with Poached Egg. The Omelette Al Tartufo was good. Had a good earthy taste of the truffle. They had truffle paste so a hint of real truffle was there. There was a bit of melted cheese in there but there was a good balance. My wife had the Montreal Smoked meat with poached egg, which was also good. Pastrami-like protein with a poached egg, presented in a croissant. Very good, but very filling. Eat this, and you won't be having lunch! All in all, good food, and good service.

We were shocked to find another couple sitting at our reserved table--frankly, I hadn't anticipated it would be a shared table for eight in the first place. To make matters worse, we were rushed to order and pay the bill. After that couple left, another pair were seated at our six-person table without any explanation. Our dishes arrived in two separate waves with a 10-minute gap. They also automatically added an 18% tip for parties of more than five people, which I expect at least we should have a private table. When I expressed my dissatisfaction to the server, the owner came out and became confrontational and aggressive. He raised his voice, saying I could "tell him what I am not satisfied with." Then he offered a refund, which I immediately declined, and afterward snatched a package of coffee from the counter and offered it as compensation. I refused again--it felt more like an insult than a genuine apology. After we posted our reviews, the owner privately messaged my friend, asking us to remove them and citing the "small Chinese community" as a reason we should support each other. That's incredibly manipulative. Using community guilt to pressure customers into deleting honest feedback is inappropriate and only reinforces our negative experience. I will not be returning.

By the time it arrived, everything was stone cold. The cheese was literally hard from melting and then going cold, the potatoes were undercooked and raw, and the entire meal was completely inedible. Spending $35 on food that went straight in the garbage is beyond frustrating, it's infuriating. And the $5 "seasonal fruit bowl" looked like someone's picked-over leftovers. A couple random pieces tossed in a container and sent out like that's acceptable? It's honestly disgusting and shows a complete lack of quality control. At this point, I would've been better off ordering McDonald's for a third of the price, because at least it would've shown up hot and edible. This is careless, overpriced, and completely unacceptable. 1STAR. Complete fail.
