As a former city resident who's been exposed to great Peruvian spots (won't name names to be fair) I figured I'd give this a shot maybe I could get lucky. Ehh. The blue pearuvian slushy tastes like melted jolly ranchers. The Chaufa rice is extremely salty. I tried my friends white rice because he said it was salty and lo and behold it def was. The waiter was a nice kid and while it was busy the service didn't take annoyingly long. Overall, wouldn't come back. I'll stick to the known good ones a few miles away. Loved this place! This place is a quaint little place in Nyack where the food packs a lot of punch! The pisco smash was the perfect blend of sweet and refreshing for a warm summer evening. We started our meal with the carne Asada tacos which really packed a punch! They were so flavorful with a little hint of spice. I got the hanger steak with chimichurri special and it was delicious!! Great spot for a birthday dinner or a night out with friends. The ambience is nice. There's a bar on one side and tables for dining on the other. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The waitress was very confident about the menu and answered all of our questions. They're also open to substituting meals over vegetables rather than rice which was a plus. One thing I'm not a fan of was the straws. They're made of paper so it melted sort of when I was drinking water and was kind of gross but nothing to do w the food. read more

This place was fun. They had a live band that sang really good. The food was just as good as the band. Had the fried seasfood platter, and it was a hugeeee plate! I liked the crispy batter they use, not oily at all. The three sauces that come out with it were also on point. I don't remember what they were, but one was sweet, one was spicy, and one was tangy. Maura's kitchen is located in a great area. Lots to do nearby. The restaurant itself is not too small not too big and I believe it has potential for great ambiance. Unfortunately, this is as good as it gets. Being married to a Peruvian and having been to Peru numerous times, I am quite familiar with the food as it is a staple in my home. Maura's kitchen just doesn't cut it for traditional Peruvian food. First turn off is having guacamole on the menu. Peruvians have enough trouble being compared to other South American countries as it is let's not confuse Americans with including non Peruvian food in the menu. The lamb seco was absolutely inedible. Super salty and why do I have to order rice on the side when seco comes with rice? The pasta pesto which should be named tallarines verde. Was undercooked and traditionally should be served with liquinine and not spaghetti. The sauce was not the best for the pesto pasta. The arroz con mariscos was good. The lomo saltado did not use traditional steak but it was ok. Not the best but ok. The best entree and the only thing I would recommend is the macho pasta was the absolute best thing we ordered. As Peruvians we want to support and love all restaurants especially upstate so we where so excited to come Here but unfortunately the food just doesn't cut it for me and i understand trying to tailor to your audience but Maura is losing the culture of Peruvians in the process. Our server was great and I don't have anything to complain about when it comes to her service but I would like the option to tip 20% on my own and not have it automatically included on tops of a 5% service charge ( what is this anyways?) Never a dull moment at Maura's, especially on their Famous Sunday Brunch! The staff was extremely professional and fun to be around! Melina & Nick are awesome bartenders who make the best Margaritas! (Try the Spicy Margarita, you won't be disappointed!) Dan is a phenomenal manager who's always there for his customers making sure every table is satisfied! (3.5 stars) I'm a huge fan of Peruvian cuisine and was happy to give this place a try when I heard about it, especially since I don't know of any other ones in the rockland area. The food was good but didn't compare to other Peruvian restaurants I've enjoyed and didn't live up to the price tags ($17 for chicken fried rice seems pretty steep). It's surely not a bad option but not one for which I would travel some distance. The portions weren't that small but I was still hungry afterwards; some complimentary bread or chips and a nice sauce to start would have been a pleasant addition. The rice was fairly bland but the addition of some much needed sauce did the trick. Definitely ask for some of their spicy yellow sauce to add to any of your dishes, because it really doesn't have much heat but will add some character. read more

Ate here last night. It was average, but then I am not a seafood lover. Someone else suggested Peruvian, and I do like to explore once in a while. I ate the rotisserie half chicken (Polla a la Brasa). It was bland. Just some chicken with two side dishes: beans and Brussel sprouts (these were good). I asked for them to switch out one of the sides for cauliflower with goat cheese (a side dish with another menu option), but they wouldn't do it without a separate charge. We also asked for a different table (3 people in our party) than the one they gave us. The restaurant was more than half empty at the time, but they wouldn't do it. My mother's dish was meant to have cilantro, but didn't and she had to ask for it separately. Overall, the food and service were just ok. I didn't hate it, but there is literally no reason for me to go back there. read more

Missed happy hour by 15mins but that is ok, coming at the right time next time. Had the green velvet which did not green was delicious. Although $12 For it was a little hefty. My friend had a white sangria and it was light and refreshing. For appetizers we shared the ceviche maura's which was talipia, shrimp, maize and sweet potatoes. We requested for hot and it was hot but very good. For entree, I had the crispy mahi mahi with yellow rich and plantains in a tomato based sauce. This was everything. Spices were proportioned right. My friend had the pan seared talipia with calimari and shrimp with yellow rice and black beans. Service was great! Our waitress was very attentive and when we were done, she didn't rush us out but made sure we were ok and if we needed anything. We all four had Lomo Saltado with high expectations. The Aji was brown and awful. The steak in the Lomo was very good, but the sauce was tasteless. We asked for bread and got a burnt , stale hamburger roll. WHAT?? The Sangria was nice, made with Chicha Morada. THAT was excellent but $35 for a pitcher, filled with ice, NO! Wow, this place was just incredible all around. We had a group of 11, and we all ordered family style. The ceviche was delicious, we also got the shrimp tacos and then shared 4 different entrees which were all amazing. I had the margaritas which were delicious, my friends had various drinks as well and we all loved them. There servers were really helpful, but what took this to a wow factor was the manager Dan. He really made our evening a great experience, and then once it start to slow down, he then performed live music with his guitar. Talk about management going above and beyond! He was just great. Went here for lunch this past Sunday, after making reservations for outdoor seating. The food was good and our server was great. But I won't be dining here again. Management was blasting 90s hip hop and R&B through several speakers. Our first table was right next to one of the speakers. We asked management to turn down the music twice. Both times they turned the music down for 5 minutes and turned it right back. Finally we asked for a new table and they moved us. The music was still insanely loud...it was bizarre, I don't know what kind of vibe they were going for but nobody wants to hear music blasting like you're in a club while your eating. It's a shame, I don't know if there's a new owner...I remember eating at their old location off of 59 and a few years back at this location. I hate to leave this review. I've been going to Maura's for years - since it was at its old location on Midland and Main. I'm actually not a local anymore (and haven't been for years) but my parents discovered Maura's when it opened and every time I am back in town we have visited at least once. In truth, it was never as great as it was the first couple of times we went. As the menu changed and Maura was less involved it seemed to lose something special - but was still an enjoyable meal. Maybe just habit kept us going after they moved shop to Broadway - they certainly lost a lot of their charm opening up in the new location and despite the menu changes (again) the food was pretty tasty. Tonight however cemented the fact that I shall never return to Maura's. The service (or lack thereof) was just horrendous. Both my parents, my daughter, and my wife all ordered Taco dinners. I ordered the half-rack of ribs which were on special. All the Tacos were brought out together and I was the sole person left without their meal. I honestly wasn't watching the clock, but everyone was half way through their food when the waiter came over and told me my ribs would be right out. By the time my wife had finished her (entire) meal and I could see my parents and daughter were slowing down and not likely to finish theirs I called the waiter over an told him to just cancel my ribs. I wasn't about to make my entire family wait while I ate half a rack of ribs after they were already done with their meal. I apparently have some semblance of consideration - which is far from what I can say for the staff tonight. The most disgusting part of the whole affair is that not a single word of apology was offered. I wasn't offered anything while I waited - not a drink, nor an explanation. And after cancelling my order not a word was uttered either in way of apology, explanation, or consolation. 100% inexcusable. Goodbye forever Maura's. read more

Decent Peruvian food! This just changed locations - there's street parking as usual in Nyack. They really made the place look nice, great for couples and for groups. The ambiance is nice in the evenings. We came here the other night with a group of friends and it was fairly intimate in setting. For appetizers we had the Chips and Guacamole, Chicken Bites, Empanadas, and Fish tacos. The Chips and Guacamole were both very fresh! Both look and taste homemade. The Chicken Bites were crunchy and really delicious. We got one each of chicken and beef for the Empanadas. The chicken one definitely tasted better, the beef came in minced form. The green sauce that comes with this dish, though, is amazing! The Fish Tacos were pretty mediocre.. Could even go as far as saying the tilapia ones tasted like fish sticks. The mahi mahi ones tasted only slightly better :/ The tacos are the reason for the 3 stars, otherwise would be 4. For entrees we got the Lomo Saltado, Paella, and Jalea. Each of these dishes can feed 2-3 people. They were all fairly decent, couldn't say one's better than the other. No extra time is needed in ordering these larger dishes either. There is quite a bit of the fish/meat in proportion to the rice for the Paella and Jalea. The drinks we got for the table was sangria. According to some of the friends that came before, they said the sangria was really watered down. This time, the red sangria seemed watered down, and maybe they used a spiced wine? Was just okay. But the white sangria was pretty good. We've been here before a few times even at the other location, so I'm sure we'll be back again. read more

So let me preface by saying that I've been to Maura's once before and had really great drinks and the food was good. We came last night for my birthday which was also the start of Restaurant Week AND salsa night. Salsa night - Awesome. The band was amazing and got the crowd going. Restaurant Week Menu - Great price for the amount of courses you get. My gripe is more so with the basic service skills that can make or break an experience. For example, they ran out of menus and had to 'find' one for me. We asked for water and had to wait over 30 minutes for it because they ran out of water glasses. If you've been to Mauras and know their green sauce, waiting for close to an hour for water is damn near unbearable. At one point we had to beg for even just water in liquor glasses. Our waitress eventually washed four wine glasses herself in order to get us some water. My food this time with the exception of the chicken bites was pretty bland. I was looking forward to the Lomo saltado, but found it to be tough and lacking in flavor. Then there were our continuous drink orders throughout the course of the night, which never came out together and eventually there was such a pile up of glasses at our table that we had to start handing glasses back for them to be taken away. We were told that this was their first time participating in restaurant week and didn't expect the outcome they've had. I get it, but regardless of the fact, you've got to be prepared to handle whatever amount of foot traffic you receive. Not sure it's worth coming back again. read more
