I've heard a lot of good things about Maura's and was very excited to come here. Sometimes that can be a bad thing, but not this time. This place lived up to the hype. The ambience at Maura's is nothing special, but it is clean and comfortable. What makes this place great has nothing to do with looks. First off, my server was great. She was engaging, informative and attentive. As somebody who works in the restaurant business - I have a very distinct style of server I enjoy and she was it. She was present and helpful, but not at all overbearing or intrusive. A+ And of course...the food! I had to have the ceviche, as it is something they are known for and now I see why. The acid content was fantastic (ceviche can sometimes take it too far with the citrus), nice spice, fresh seafood and perfectly prepared Peruvian corn/sweet potato - stellar! I then had the lomo soltado which is also something they are known for and again I see why. Everything from the steak itself (super tender and juicy), to the sauce (rich and flavorful without being heavy), to the beautiful green hot sauce on the side (you could put this s**t on a shoe and you'd be like: "this shoe is amazing!!"). South American soul food - boom! Faaaaaantasic! Can't wait to go back and try some more read more

I was turn on to peruvian from Pio Pio in the city and now I really enjoy it. I was up visiting my cousin in Nyack and he recommended we go here. It was a good choice. It is very similar to pio pio in the menu, but pio pio might have a slight edge in the taste factor on certain dishes. I ordered the Half Rotisserie Chicken meal with yellow rice and black beans. It was very good, but parts of the chicken weren't fully cooked to my liking, but I enjoyed it. The size of the chicken was enormous though and felt like some restaurants could get away with calling it a whole. The rice was very good, as were the beans. My favorite part of the meal was the empanadas appetizer. They were fried to a perfect crunch and the inside was great tasting! The sauce they came with was amazing and I asked for extra so I could put it on the chicken. Make sure you ask for this sauce when you come! I also tried the sweet plaintains, which were average, and the fried Yuka. I have had better plaintains in the city, but the Yuka was very tastey. The two people I was with both had the fish tacos and were raving about them, so I would give those a try too! Overall, if you are in the area I would come very hungry because Maura will definately fill you right up. read more

Exceptionally delicious ceviché in rocoto (Peruvian chilli marinade). The seafood was fresh and the citrus and chili marinade gave a bright and bold taste without being overwhelming! Our server was great This is a pleasant and unfussy restaurant with casual bar along the far wall. There as also parking in the rear. read more

Maura's Kitchen - Cant recall the name of this tapas dish but it was good. - Peruvian Near Me - Nyack, New York

Explain how you run a restaurant that offers brunch BUT you have no coffee, tea, avocado ( for the special- avocado toast) and no Bloody Mary's . Then, we ask for simple scrambled eggs and tick tick tick, everyone is served except the simple scrambled eggs. Jeez even getting pepper is like we are requesting the pepper to be extracted from the plant. One star is generous. This place is horrible. read more

Wanted to try something different and as I love Cuban and Colombian food, decided to try Peruvian. This place is brand new. They used to be in a different spot in Nyack. We asked for seats at the bar which was very spacious. Bartender was a little overwhelmed on a Friday night. She was by herself and not only had to tend bar but also had to wait on high top tables in the bar area. Very nice and made good drink and food selections. She explained the dishes and told us the most popular ones. For our appetizers we ordered some tapas: a pork empanadas special which had a great tasty filling and outside was cooked perfectly. The steamed clams were in an amazing tomato broth that I was eating like soup! We also got the tilapia ceviche which was in a perfect citrus marinade. For entrees I chose the traditional Peruvian version of fried rice. The flavors and vegetables were so flavorful and the rice had a really nice texture. My husband got the paella with seafood and said it was very good. The flavors used in all of these dishes are different and very unique. Drinks were also good. Very funky choices. I had a regular Margarita that was tasty. Would definitely come back. The only thing that stinks is the parking situation. read more

Wow...we enjoyed our meal at Maura's so much! Very authentic Peruvian food and pisco sours! Since moving away from South America, we have had a hard time finding good Peruvian food, but Maura's was a great find. We each had a pisco sour- so delicious and potent. We shared the octopus ceviche and lomo saltado for our dinner. Dessert was the bread pudding with lucuma ice cream. Our server/bartender Nicholis was very nice & provided great service. Highly recommend this place - we'll be back! read more

We came here even though we had just ate a few hours ago since the place looked cute and it was recommended. Also, we found a groupon which was a sign that we must go. The tapas were amazing and the portions were very generous. The clams were jumbo size in a mouth watering reddish sauce, and the shrimp was on a sweetish white smashed potato thing over a yellow sweetish sauce. They were both extremely yummy. Even the fries were well above the standard at most restaurants. Finally, the Peruvian whiskey drink was served with an egg white foam topping. And, wow! read more

Maura's Kitchen - Tilapia, shrimp, and calimari dish - Peruvian Near Me - Nyack, New York

My review will consist of pick up service and food. Here it goes: RESTAURANT/SERVICE: The restaurant is nicely decorated. Seems like the ambience for dining is great. The service we receive for the two pick up orders have been good. FOOD: The first time we picked up food here we did not live in the area but my husband had passed by this restaurant by chance so he picked up an order of Lomo saltado and Lomo saltado a lo pobre. Now my husband is not Peruvian but I am and as soon as he saw the menu he told me it was limited and they did not have my favorite dish!! How do you not have TALLARINE VERDES CON BISTEC! Any who, both dishes of the lomo saltado was honestly just ok. The seasoning was definitely NOT Peruvian authentic and in the original lomo saltado you do not use big pieces of steak you use thin strips AND the other plate is usually called Bistec a lo pobre. I actually don't care what you call a dish as long as you keep the original flavor to the dishes! 2nd time: The reason why I have gone a second time was to give them another chance and sadly disappointed again. We ordered 1/2 Pollo a la Brasa and a side of Papa a la Huancaina. Ugh!!! I hate to say it BUT the food lacked authentic Peruvian flavor AGAIN!!! The Huancaina sauce is thin and usually it should be a little bit on the thicker side with more of Aji Amarillo... The chicken did not seem marinated in the right spices. Don't get me wrong the food is edible, cooked well/thoroughly, but if you are Peruvian like myself who have grown up eating homemade Peruvian cuisine their whole life and not just the restaurant Peruvian food, this is not where I would take my friends to try what our food taste like, which is so upsetting!!! $$: The prices are a little hefty for their dishes. For the 2 chickens and the app we spent $40. I can get this same dish that tastes better for half of that price elsewhere. Overall, disappointed that I do not have a go to Peruvian restaurant where I can order out or eat at on regular basis. The food is not flavored authentically and the price is steep. :( read more

I loved Maura's at their old location including their sangria. Their new location seems to have a lot of kinks to work out. We had a reservation but had to wait for our table. Not a problem! We'll grab a drink at the bar. However getting the bartender's attention at the packed bar proved impossible. It appeared they had one person working solely behind the bar and another person behind the bar and working the tables in the bar area. I never did get to order a drink in the time we waited for our table. Once we were seated, I couldn't wait to order the sangria. We sat for a good 10 minutes before the waiter came over. Waited another 15 minutes for my drink. The sangria is not the same, and doesn't even taste like sangria. It was essentially just red wine with some pieces of strawberry. My friend ordered the cucumber sangria and it also tasted watered down and bad. It was truly a letdown. The food is delicious though and as good as I remembered which is why I'm giving it 3 stars. But the service is really bad! We waited a really long time for drinks and food. Our water glasses were never refilled. The space seems really sparse and could use some more decorating. And not sure what's up with the weird light bulbs. read more

The food is a bit overpriced but tastes amazing so its worth it. The drinks are also amazing. The only complaint I have is that one time I went with my friend on a busy night. We were seated at The bar a few minutes later the waitress came up to us and informed us that the bar seats we were in were already reserved? First of all I was not aware that people can reserve bar seats and second of all I'm not sure if she was expecting us to get up and leave? We weren't sure why she came and told us that. I assume she realized she was wrong because she then said she was sorry and walked away. Overall I will definitely come back sometime in the near future. :) read more

Delicious, authentic Peruvian cuisine. It's been 5 or 6 years since I've been to Peru and this food brought me back to the small mountain villages and the talented cooks that took care of me and my traveling companions as if we were their own children. In addition to the Lomo Saltado, complementary fresh cancha (pan toasted choclo) and Pollo al a Brasa, they also had delicious seafood dishes, including a house specialty ceviche, the likes of which you would find in Lima. Huge portions and a friendly, helpful proprietor (it was my Mom's first Peruvian food). One more thing: I don't usually like flan (sickly sweet), but theirs was delicious! read more

Small place, simple decor, limited menu, but everything I've tried so far during my two visits has been excellent. Friendly bartender, waitstaff, and owner as well. I've gone the "multiple appetizers route" each time. Their empanadas are freshly made, and both the beef and chicken are mildly seasoned and delicious. The dipping sauce that is included with them is not safe for layman spicy food consumers. Their ceviche is great, as is their shrimp and mashed yuca app. However, my favorite would have to be their crispy chicken bites, a seemingly un-Peruvian dish. A generous portion cost only $9. I strongly suspect their sauce for this dish and TGI Friday's Jack Daniels sauce are one in the same, but, that accusation aside, it's definitely an addictive app. The fish tacos are solid as well. I'm not a big cocktail person, but have had the Pisco Smash twice each visit. Really tasty, not too fruity, and a couple will give you a small buzz. I have yet to actually try entrees here, but will do so soon. read more

I've been a fan of Maura's since their old location, but this new spot is bigger and better! The food here is so delicious! Came with a group of friends and we all loved our dishes- especially the chicken and salmon. Took off a point for the spicy margarita, which was just bad, and the live band, which was a little too loud during dinner time. Otherwise everything was great! Can't wait to go back! read more

Absolutely great food! My wife and I came down from Martha's Vineyard and met our long time friends. We thought the food was fantastic.

This place has some great food and a fun Brunch Atmosphere! Went for Sunday brunch and enjoyed the music and the $15 unlimited mimosas (2hr limit). The brunch menu was small but they had a great selection. Was a little bummed out that they ran out of Pernil but the Bacon and Goat Cheese Frittata was very good. Yuca Fries were great too! read more

I've been meaning to come here for over a year now based on their great reviews. I finally dined here for dinner last night, and it was not what I had anticipated. I ordered the Arroz con Mariscos. It was Peruvian paella with calamari, mussels, shrimp, and clams. The ratio of rice to seafood was drastic. This is normal in any restaurant, but I felt like I ordered just a plate of rice. The food had flavor, but was by no means flavorful. It was definitely lacking. My boyfriend's dish was the same. Our waitress was not bad, but she was not very attentive. The majority of our time dining she was at the front desk with her back to us talking to other employees. Overall, for what we ate we felt it was not worth the money spent. I've had Peruvian food many times before. I am not an expert, but I have had better. It was not incredibly bad, but it was not a great dining experience. This wouldn't be my first choice to come to eat. read more

Came here for dinner on a Friday night and had a completely different experience than before that was disappointing. It started with the hostess with a temperament that was not appealing and rude. Bartender made the sangria that did not taste like the recipe before and the passion fruit margaritas were hard to take down. We come here specifically for the ceviche and that too tasted different than our awesome experience before. Ordered the Ceviche Mixtos. They all tasted the same- not well spiced/seasoned. Fish and shrimp were not cut or cooked well in the juices as if made in mass quantities. Their quality seems to be slipping away. The service was also average and inattentive. read more

This is an update to my original review. I have been going to Maura's consistently with my girlfriend at least once a month or more if I can. I still love the food that is served here. In my original review I criticized them for their rotisserie chicken and changes has been made to make them much better. They have added tapas to the menu and keep bringing us back. I would also encourage everyone to try everything they have on the menu. You will get addicted to their ceviches, seafood dishes, tapas etc. Pro Tip: call ahead and make reservations if its for a busy night. The place isn't huge and can get busy. Reserve the rotisserie chicken if you are going there for that one specific item as well. read more

This place was amazing. Will definitely try it again. Mixed ceviche was delicious and fresh. The arroz chafa was good as well.

I will just echo what most other reviewers have said. This place is fantastic! Amazing food and the welcoming friendliness of the owners make this a special place. Had the ceviche sampler with three different kinds. All were very tasty with a lot of kick (the owner asked us when we ordered how spicy we wanted it). It was nice being able to taste the different types of aji. The papa a la Huancaina, potatoes with a mild creamy cheese sauce, were nice with subtle flavors. The lomo saltado was rich with tender and well seasoned bits of beef. The chaufa de camarones, a peruvian fried rice with shrimp, was wonderful with large prawns. The sauces were rich and spicy and complemented the food well. I look forward to heading back. Come on Rockland, lets support this wonderful gem that provides something different from the usual tired fare most restaurants here offer. read more

My wife and I went to Maura's for our 33rd Wedding Anniversary. We wanted food that was different from the standard Italian/American fare. Mauras delivered! We started with a couple of Margaritas that were excellent. Our waiter John was a true gentleman and helped us order our meals. We started with a small Cerviche which was shrimp and Calamari, delicious. I had the Paella and my wife had the Fettuccine with Shrimps. Both dishes presented beautifully and both were delicious, just what we were looking for to celebrate our day. The staff was very accommodating and the night was very special. We will definitely be going back to the taste of Peru in the near future. read more

My wife and I enter this restaurant and as we sit, we were able to quickly confirm that indeed...Whatever fantastic aromas we smelled in the parking lot, were indeed coming from this restaurant. While we waited (too long) for a server to come over, we overheard the family next to us asking for their meals to go because they couldn't wait any longer for them...My wife and I were worried. We then heard a family come in that had a reservation and quickly saw the employees of the restaurant, including the owner herself, look like a deer in headlights with absolutely no idea what to do. We got our appetizers...Empanadas. They were good but the beef was dry. 50 minutes later...Yup, 50 minutes later our entrees arrived. I was all prepared with all the things I wanted to state here on Yelp...Until I tasted the food. Seriously...I have no words. The food at this restaurant is OUTSTANDING! It is amazing...I didn't even care that the waitress forgot my soda. Towards the end of the meal, the waitress came over and apologized for the wait. That, and the food, will bring me back. But I hope they hire a front end manager to run the show. The poor wait staff (two people) were working so hard...One had to double as bartender. This restaurant, like so many, suffers from such an easy problem to fix. And they will only grow if they invest as much energy into the dining experience as much as the eating...Because if the service matched the food...This would be the best restaurant anywhere! read more

Maura's is really good food. But you need to be willing to try new things. I visited recently for the first time for dinner and had the ceviche mixto. It was super light and refreshing, perfect on a hot summer evening. But be careful! The server asked if I wanted mild, medium or spicy and since I like a little bit of heat I chose medium. And damn was that thing spicy! So, next time I'll know to get the mild. Big chunks of tilapia, calamari and shrimp in a citrusy sauce served alongside hominy and a cold chunk of sweet potato which I enjoyed more than I expected. Also had their yuca fries which are thick-cut and nicely seasoned. Pisco sour was on point - super frothy and well made. read more

So my husband and I love real authentic ceviche , we have traveled and had it many many times and also have tried many fancy Peruvian restaurants throughly NYC and Westchester . This ceviche was just Okay , nothing spectacular... The veggie empanadas they had as a special the day we went were so bland and the creamy sauce was not seasoned.. I can't say much on anything else since we only ordered ceviches and empanadas . Will try again read more

Went to their new spot with a friend recently. And i must say, a lot more room! We went around 5 on a Monday right when it opened and there was no wait. Chicken bites were very crispy and the sauce was excellent! I definitely want to come back and try their brunch menu. read more

We were visiting family, and they brought us here. It was fabulously delicious! Food was flavorful, and I was amazed at how many different spots of my tongue the different tastes hit. Food was delicious BUT the service was TERRIBLE. The waitress took ten years to get us anything we needed and when she brought our food out she didn't bring us any silverware. She also brought us the wrong drink as well (picture attached below you be the judge if these drinks are the same because the owner told us they were and clearly they look different and tasted different) and everything in between took 20 mins or plus to get. When I complained to the owner/manager about her service he was very nasty and did not seem to care. The bus boy was the biggest help he assisted us more then our waitress did and was very attentive and quick. We came for bottomless brunch and it was far from bottomless considering we only got about two drinks because it took so long. read more

I've been here a handful of times, one time I ordered ceviche I got food poisoning. i have also ordered to go and both times they got my order wrong and wouldn't answer the phone when I would call or just kept me waiting on line with no potential answering. lastly, I was there for Mother's Day and they were absolutely not prepared to handle more customers than usual. My group arrived 2pm and were seated by 2:15. we did not receive our orders until 4:04pm, and that was just a few of us out of 10 ppl. The last person to get their food was at 4:40. One person received their appetizer after their entree. The waiter did not refill our water or asked us for drinks, we had to ask multiple times for utensils, and for our appetizers. The manager did come out to apologize and promised us gift cards that we never received. He did comp a round of drinks since we could only have one round, due to poor service and he gave us free flan. Do not recommend going on important holidays and also check your orders when you pick up. read more

I quite frankly hated the food. The calamari was good for the first two bites, as it cooled down it tasted like it was out of a frozen package. I had the avocado salad which just wasn't exciting. My boyfriend thought his meal was satisfactory, he had the empanadas. I tried them and they just didn't seem like that were fresh. The bloody Mary's are great, and the brunch drink special was why we stayed even as we left our food mostly untouched. I do think if we chose other entrees they might have been made on the spot, but genuinely don't think what we order (other than the drinks and salad) were made that day.
